CareerRe: Man Shares The Things He Allows As A Gen Z CEO Running A Tech Company In Lagos by flexyrule(m):
Unrelated to this GEN Z thread...

I kicked off my career in one of the top financial institutions. We resumed at 7:20am sharp, and you don’t close until the vault balances - technically, there was no closing time. You fit enter branch by 8pm, all man go dey face computer like the day just started.

Dress code? Non-negotiable. Strictly blue or grey suits, paired with white or blue shirts, with black shoes. Two Saturdays every month were always taken from you either for one training, Monthly Review or ATM monitoring.

The environment? Fast-paced, unpredictable, and unforgiving. One minute you’re in operations, the next you’re shipped to another department—no notice, no excuses. And you’re expected to perform like a pro in weeks.

Targets were wild: ATM cards, Internet Banking, account reactivations, deposit mobilisation, and even shares. Imagine being in operations and still having a deposit target! 😅

Truth is, I hated that job. The atmosphere was always “hot,” even with the AC blasting. But looking back, it shaped me. It was a battlefield that drilled you, stretched you, and squeezed out your best.

If you could survive there, you could survive anywhere.
If you could make it there, you could make it anywhere.

That place was tough… but it made me tougher.

I always stood out among my peers in all the other organisations that I joined afterwards. My commitment to work, passion for getting things done, dedication, dressing, my carriage, customer service skills, email/telephone etiquette, etc.

Sometimes.. It's good to start your career like a soldier!

Awoooooooooooooooooooooo!

How does the present and future generation explain to you that they make more money in one week dancing on TikTok than you did in your 35 years of working?
Every generation is peculiar, you don’t gotta explain nothing. They cannot relate and it’ll make absolutely no sense to them.
Show us proof of your earnings on TikTok.

Flew Abuja to Uyo in 2015 and back with 22k.

Fuel used to be N65 per litre.

The only commodity whose price didn't really appreciate geometrically is beer... grin grin grin grin grin grin

If the price of beer were to move like that of fuel, a lot of us would be sober.

You seem to be allergic to good news.

You always display bitterness whenever anything good is mentioned...

One part of you would be deceiving you that "it's all cruise"... Or maybe, you're probably doing your paymasters' bidding, thinking it's all hustle.

Be careful, words are powerful, and character is developed from tiny day-to-day habits.

Make bitterness a habit... You should know what to expect.

The second time that I saw physical 1 billion sitting in an individual's account was this chief's account.

Aside from GLs, state government accounts, and accounts belonging to multinationals, it's very rare to see 1b sitting in an individual account.

A third party came to cash a cheque of 300k or so from the account. The teller couldn't view the account as there was a memo on it.

As soon as the transaction was concluded, I received a memo from the HO to scan the instrument used in processing the transaction.

My first job application after NYSC required me to travel from Ekiti State where I was running my post-grad grad to PH for an aptitude test.

I returned to Ado after the test and was invited for an interview in PH about a month later.

Had to travel down again to attend the interview..

About two weeks later, I received a regret mail.

OP. You never start!

The Minister of Health in the country, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, has spoken on the matter during a national interview, saying if members of the group do not want foreigners, including Nigerians, to access the public healthcare system in the country, and it is an issue of law, they cannot come to a public health facility where pregnant women and children are helpless, and want to stop healthcare workers, including doctors, from treating the patients.

The way girls and young ladies in these francophone territories use rape allegations to blackmail or get men into prison is alarming.

They wield so much power that their men are so afraid of them.

Many men are languishing in jail because they were falsely accused of rape.

It's a popular practice in Benin, Burkina, Mali and Senegal.

Depart from an AC-fitted bus station to ply a 600 pothole-per-km highway that hasn't been maintained since 2010.

Not mentioning the fact that you'd had to to recite Hail Mary every 5 minutes against bandits, kidnappers, and herdsmen.
