Right. But the residence has given a 1-week deadline to send the requested documents and I can’t get VISALE in that period.

mrphysics:

I think all you need to do is to wait until you get your Visa to apply again. There is not deadline to Visale application.

For those who have done the CROUS process: I got CROUS yesterday but they are asking for VISALE which I cannot get until I have my Visa. What is the typical thing to do in this situation?

Exactly you need visa for visale, you need visale for accommodation, you need accommodation for visa. undecided

Darrnielo:
Thanks for this but the landlords/properties I am looking at are asking for Visale. And Visale is asking for residence permit (visa) before giving me a guarantee.

Meanwhile I cant even apply for visa without accommodation certificate.

Does anybody have an idea when the embassy will reopen?
Travel / Re: Thread For France Prospective Students by flyway: 8:18am On Jul 14, 2020
Even if we were to share accommodation, you would still need your own accommodation certificate to show at the embassy. As for not qualifying for VISALE, you can use studapart.com (it’s expensive but it takes care of guarantor issues for you). Another option is to talk to landlords on leboncoin and let them know you don’t have a guarantor but they’ll usually want you to pay like 3 months ahead. If you do go this route, you should only pay the caution deposit and then pay the three months rent when you arrive.

Hello flyway,

I am not qualified for Visale becos of my age (>30). Also it's difficult finding accommodation in Grenoble. If you've already applied for housing, we can share accommodation together to reduce cost, or what do you think?

I applied for CROUS housing. I’m also looking at some private student residences. You?

flowergirl222:

How far have you gone with housing?

Did you apply for CROUS?

ABBAChuks:
This accommodation issue is really tough oo.
Why is French student visa application so complicated compared to that of Germany?

stsparrow:

thanks for your reply. The last stage requires me to upload some documents and I do not have these documents, at least not yet. They are Valid student residence permit and student card. this suggests that one cannot complete the application process without those documents. What do you think.
Thanks once again.

I had this same issue with VISALE, you need to upload your student visa (if you don’t have a residence permit).

Have you gotten accommodation?

Daniella1998:
I just confirmed that france embassy has reopened, who is going ahead with the visa application? I've started the process sort of.
Travel / Re: Securing Visa To France, Applying From Nigeria... by flyway: 3:39pm On Jun 25, 2020
This is probably the hardest part of the VISA process. There are a few options though:

1. CROUS student residence (the cheapest option, usually meant for students with scholarships). International students can apply for this from July 9.

2. Other private residences; you can check the following sites: lokaviz.fr *, studapart.com **, leboncoin.fr, location-etudiant.fr etc.

The biggest challenge with renting a place is getting a guarantor who is usually someone resident and paying taxes in France and usually having a monthly income of about 3x the monthly rent for the accommodation. There are other options the guarantor like VISALE (free but not widely accepted by private landlords) and garantme.fr (Paid, but some landlords may not accept it).

* Student accommodation with private individuals managed by CROUS
** Usually charges a booking fee of about 180 euros

Please who knows how to rent accommodation in France from Nigeria here?
I need help.
Travel / Re: Securing Visa To France, Applying From Nigeria... by flyway: 4:37pm On Jun 22, 2020
Unfortunately, the school does not have any such contract. But thanks anyways. I was hoping to get CROUS but the application opens on July 9.

Skymoore1004:
It depends on the university, you have to ask. Some universities that own a contract with private residence providers will give you a housing certificate or letter of attestation.

With that letter, you can get visa because the letter states you’re guaranteed an accommodation.
Getting CROUS is very hard as an international student because you need a french guarantor.
So just check with your university about any arranged accommodation
