On the Second Sunday of Easter of the Jubilee Year 2000, at the Mass for the canonization of St. Faustina Kowalska, Pope John Paul II proclaimed to the world that “from now on throughout the Church” this Sunday will be called “Divine Mercy Sunday.” Our Lord insisted that it be celebrated on a specific day – the Sunday after Easter! Our Lord revealed to St. Faustina His desire to literally flood us with His graces on that day. Just consider each of the promises and desires that He expressed about Mercy Sunday, which are recorded in the main passage of the Diary — passage 699 — about Mercy Sunday: “On that day the very depths of My tender Mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon these souls who approach the Fount of My mercy [the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist]. The soul that will go to Confession [beforehand] and receive Holy Communion [on that day] shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter.” “Souls perish in spite of My bitter Passion. I am giving them the last hope of salvation; that is, the Feast of My Mercy. If they will not adore My mercy, they will perish for all eternity…tell souls about this great mercy of Mine, because the awful day, the day of My justice, is near.” (965) Wake up people of the World, and repent of your sins, this just might be our last hope of salvation! “Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be acts of mercy … I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbors always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to excuse or absolve yourself from it” (742). “And who knows anything about this feast? No one! Even those who should be proclaiming My mercy and teaching people about it often do not know about it themselves. That is why I want the image to be solemnly blessed on the First Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it.” (Diary 341) Thus, to fittingly observe the Feast of Mercy, we should: 1. Celebrate the Feast on the Sunday after Easter; 2. Sincerely repent of all our sins; 3. Place our complete trust in Jesus; 4. Go to Confession, preferably before that Sunday; 5. Receive Holy Communion on the day of the Feast; 6. Venerate* the Image of The Divine Mercy; 7. Be merciful to others, through our actions, words, and prayers on their behalf. =================================== Requirements for the Divine Mercy Sunday: * To observe this feast we should commence a Novena to the Divine Mercy on Good Friday, the Novena includes special intentions for each day and is concluded with the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. * Celebrate the feast on the first Sunday after Easter. * Come to Jesus with a humble and contrite heart, repent of all your sins. * Firmly trust in the Divine Mercy of Jesus. * Go to confession (with a priest) on that day if possible, otherwise seven days before or after the feast, as approved by the Church.. * Receive Holy Communion on the Day of the Feast. * Venerate the image of Divine Mercy. * Be merciful as God is merciful. Practice works of Mercy, physically by helping others or spiritually by prayers of intercession. =================================== Plenary Indulgence for Divine Mercy Sunday In a decree dated August 3, 2002, the Apostolic Penitentiary announced that in order “to ensure that the faithful would observe this day (Divine Mercy Sunday) with intense devotion, the Supreme Pontiff himself established that this Sunday be enriched by a plenary indulgence…so that the faithful might receive in great abundance the gift of the consolation of the Holy Spirit. In this way, they can foster a growing love for God and for their neighbor, and after they have obtained God’s pardon, they in turn might be persuaded to show a prompt pardon to their brothers and sisters. Requirements for Divine Mercy Sunday Plenary Indulgence: 1. Attend the holy sacrifice of the mass on the Sunday after Easter or its Saturday vigil 2. Have completed a sacramental confession (within a reasonable amount of time, specified as 8 days for the regular plenary indulgence) 3. Receive Eucharistic Communion (of course, in the state of grace, no mortal sin) 4.A prayer for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff 5. Ask for Divine Mercy The special indulgence is earned when they meet the basic requirements and then, “with a soul totally detached from affection to any sin, even venial, participate in the pious practices undertaken in honour of divine mercy, or at least recite in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, the Our Father, the Creed and a pious invocation to the merciful Lord Jesus,” such as “Merciful Jesus, I trust in you” Jesus asks us that we be merciful so it is desireable but not necessary that the person perform an act of mercy on this Sunday, such as visiting those in need or difficulty, such as the sick, elderly, lonely, handicapped or imprisoned, praying for the needy, or penance as an act of mercy. If someone is physically unable to attend mass and receive communion on that day through no fault of their own they can make a spiritual communion and that will suffice. Approved Prayer for Spiritual Communion: “Oh Jesus I believe you are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I long for you in my soul. Since I can not now receive you Sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You had already come, I embrace you and unite myself entirely to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.” Source: http://www.francismary.org/divine-mercy-sunday-feast-of-divine-mercy-all-you-need-to-know/

Many Catholics wonder why they are advised to practise abstinence from meat of Fridays during Lent. Philip Kosloski helps us with these explanation. You know you are in a Catholic town when, only during Lent, every single restaurant advertises one item on their menu: fish! I have even noticed how major fast-food chains point out on their fliers the date of Ash Wednesday! Suddenly everyone cares about the liturgical seasons of the Church! So why is it that the Church instructs Catholics to abstain from meat on Fridays (as well as Ash Wednesday and Good Friday), but gives the “thumbs-up” for Catholics to eat fish? Sounds fishy to me! First of all we must ask the question, “why Friday?” The USCCB gives a succinct explanation: Catholic peoples from time immemorial have set apart Friday for special penitential observance by which they gladly suffer with Christ that they may one day be glorified with Him. This is the heart of the tradition of abstinence from meat on Friday where that tradition has been observed in the holy Catholic Church. Since it is believed Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross on a Friday, Christians from the very beginning have set aside that day to unite their sufferings to Jesus. This led the Church to recognize every Friday as a “Good Friday” where Christians can remember Christ’s passion by offering up a specific type of penance. For much of the Church’s history meat was singled out as a worthy sacrifice on account of its association with feasts and celebrations. In most ancient cultures meat was considered a delicacy and the “fattened calf” was not slaughtered unless there was something to celebrate. Since Fridays were thought of as a day of penance and mortification, eating meat on a Friday to “celebrate” the death of Christ didn’t seem right. (As an aside, some bishops have chosen to lift the ban when Saint Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday during Lent, as it is considered a “solemnity” for many Irish Catholics.) But why is fish not considered “meat”? According to the USCCB, the laws of the Church classify the abstinence from “land animals.” Abstinence laws consider that meat comes only from animals such as chickens, cows, sheep or pigs — all of which live on land. Birds are also considered meat. Fish, on the other hand, are not in that same classification. Fish are a different category of animal. Salt and freshwater species of fish, amphibians, reptiles (cold-blooded animals) and shellfish are permitted. In Latin the word used to describe what kind of “meat” is not permitted on Fridays is carnis, and specifically relates to “animal flesh” and never included fish as part of the definition. Additionally, fish in these cultures was not considered a “celebratory” meal and was more of a penance to eat. Our current culture is much different as meat is generally considered the cheaper option on the menu and no longer has the cultural connection to celebrations. This is why many people are confused about the regulations, especially those who love to eat fish and do not consider it a penance. In the end, the Church’s intention is to encourage the faithful to offer up a sacrifice to God that comes from the heart and unites one’s suffering to that of Christ on the cross. Meat is given as the very basic penance, while the purpose of the regulation should always be kept in mind. For example, it does not necessarily give a person the license to eat a lobster dinner every Friday in Lent. The whole point is to make a sacrifice that draws a person closer to Christ, who out of love for us made the ultimate sacrifice a person can make. Love on Valentine |
Are you having trouble thinking of the right Valentine’s gift for your loved one? Have you planned what to do and where to go for the romantic evening on Valentine’s day? Well, if you already have something in mind, good for you but I guess plenty of the guys out there are having a hard time. Me too, having a hard cracking my brain for more ideas and thinking what to give for my sweetheart. I am sure that for most of us, we have been giving little gifts here and there and all the romantic ideas and gifts seems to run out. Here are some of my ideas to help you to create a romantic and memorable Valentine’s Day. 1. Personalized Photo Locket A very sweet and personalized gift for your loved ones. You can engrave your photo on the metal itself. A precious gift your loved ones will keep it close to them and a memorable gift that will last a long time. 2. Lingerie Buy a sexy, beautiful, exotic lingerie that she always fantasizes for. If you watch desperate housewives, there are lots of ideas you can draw from. 3. A crazy idea – Yourself Putting yourself in a huge, gift box that you can fit into and hiring a group of friends to deliver yourself to a place where you will meet her. But first wear something out of the ordinary so when she opened the box, she’ll be surprised and laughing at the same time. My fantasy idea 4. Words in the sky Perhaps you have seen this in the movies, the air planes smoke the sky with the words “I love you, (their name)”. Of course it’s not going to be cheap nor environmental friendly but I’m sure she is going to remember this for life. 5. Candle Light Dinner You may think this is too tradition but if you are not a good chef, this is going to be tough for you. Because you are going to learn to make the dish within this few days. It’s the effort and sweat that you put in and show that counts! Do not just spend some money and go to restaurant, start to learn now! 6. Rose Petals pathway Lay rose petals all the way from your door steps to the bedroom to form a grand welcome while you lie in the bed waiting for their arrivals. Prepare a champagne beside the bed to enjoy. 7. A warm fragrant spa Enjoy a romantic spa with your loved ones. 8. Number One Idea What’s the Number 1 thing that your loved ones love and dreamt of in a relationship? It’s up to you to find out without letting them know. It’s not about the money nor how creative the idea. It’s about the effort, the time, that you put in to love your significant other, that I think will truly give more juice and happiness to the relationship. 9. Love SMS Make sure you write her/him a Love SMS first thing in the morning, she/he should read this as she/he wakes up. You never knew but we all love this. It is very obvious that MMM promoters stole a lot of money form investors The system works in a way that you must provide help (PH) before you can get help (GH). One question is, the first investors who provided help in the system, to whom did they give help to?...as no one was qualified to receive help then. My take is that the initial investors provided help to the promoters (website owners). Note: suppose that at the second coming of MMM Nigeria, the people who have money in the system and needs to be paid are being owed say #600 million. To pay all these people their #600 million, you need new investors to provide help worth #600 million. When these new investors provide help worth #600 million, the system will be owing these new investors #600 million plus 30% which is #180 million. Automatically the system is then indebted to the tune of #780 million. If this circle continues, the system will continue to be heavily indebted. This system has no central account and so money is not invested in any real estate or business venture that will bring in profits so this system will continue to be indebted to its investors. In fact the debt level will continue to rise. My Take: 1. From the negative publications about MMM (which actually is positive publications because the system is a fraud), lots of people would seriously not want to put in any heavy amount of money in the system for now. Some may just want to try with say 20k... things like that. 2. Even if people go on investing in the system again, the system will definitely crash again. There will be no funds to fill in the debt gap which will continue to rise astronomically. My Advise: 1. Run as far as your legs can carry you when someone asks you to come invest in MMM or any of its kind. 2. It's quite unfortunate but if you have money in the system currently, especially for those who have invested heavily and for those who cannot afford to loose their money, please begin to see it as a business investment gone wrong. There is a 99% chance you will not get your money back. Sad but it is true. My Prayer: My prayer is that God will give many the courage and heart to bear the loss and the wisdom to avoid such greed in the future. |

A little six-year-old Protestant boy had often heard his Catholic companions reciting the prayer “Hail Mary.” He liked it so much that he copied it, memorized it and would recite it every day. “Look, Mommy, what a beautiful prayer,” he said to his mother one day. “Never again say it,” answered the mother. “It is a superstitious prayer of Catholics who adore idols and think Mary a goddess. After all, she is a woman like any other. Come on, take this Bible and read it. It contains everything that we are bound to do and have to do.” From that day on the little boy discontinued his daily “Hail Mary” and gave himself more time to reading the Bible instead. One day, while reading the Gospel, he came across the passage about the Annunciation of the Angel to Our Lady. Full of joy, the little boy ran to his mother and said: “Mommy, I have found the ‘Hail Mary’ in the Bible which says: ‘Hail full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women.’ Why do you call it a superstitious prayer?” On another occasion he found that beautiful Salutation of St. Elizabeth to the Virgin Mary and the wonderful canticle MAGNIFICAT in which Mary foretold that “the generations would call her blessed.” He said no more about it to his mother but started to recite the “Hail Mary” every day as before. He felt pleasure in addressing those charming words to the Mother of Jesus, our Savior. When he was fourteen, he one day heard a discussion on Our Lady among the members of his family. Every one said that Mary was a common woman like any other woman. The boy, after listening to their erroneous reasoning could not bear it any longer, and full of indignation, he interrupted them, saying: “Mary is not like any other children of Adam, stained with sin. No! The Angel called her FULL OF GRACE AND BLESSED AMONGST WOMEN. Mary is the Mother of Jesus Christ and consequently Mother of God. There is no higher dignity to which a creature can be raised. The Gospel says that the generations will proclaim her blessed and you are trying to despise her and look down on her. Your spirit is not the spirit of the Gospel or of the Bible which you proclaim to be the foundation of the Christian religion.” So deep was the impression which the boy’s talk had made that his mother many times cried out sorrowfully: “Oh my God! I fear that this son of mine will one day join the Catholic religion, the religion of Popes!” And indeed, not very long afterwards, having made a serious study of both Protestantism and Catholicism, the boy found the latter to be the true religion and embraced it and became one of its most ardent apostles. Some time after his conversion, he met his married sister who rebuked him and said indignantly: “You little know how much I love my children. Should any one of them desire to become a Catholic, I would sooner pierce his heart with a dagger than allow him to embrace the religion of the Popes!” Her anger and temper were as furious as those of St. Paul before his conversion. However, she would change her ways, just as St. Paul did on his way to Damascus. It so happened that one of her sons fell dangerously ill and the doctors gave up hope of recovery. Her brother then approached her and spoke to her affectionately, saying: “My dear sister, you naturally wish to have your child cured. Very well, then, do what I ask you to do. Follow me, let us pray one ‘Hail Mary’ and promise God that, if your son recovers his health, you would seriously study the Catholic doctrine, and should you come to the conclusion that Catholicism is the true religion, you would embrace it no matter what the sacrifices may be.” His sister was somewhat reluctant at the beginning, but as she wished for her son’s recovery, she accepted her brother’s proposal and recited the “Hail Mary” together with him. The next day her son was completely cured. The mother fulfilled her promise and she studied the Catholic doctrine. After long preparation she received Baptism together with her whole family, thanking her brother for being an apostle to her. The story was related during a sermon given by the Rev. Fr. Tuckwell. “Brethren,” he went on and said, “the boy who became a Catholic and converted his sister to Catholicism dedicated his whole life to the service of God. He is the priest who is speaking to you now! What I am I owe to Our Lady. You, too, my dear brethren, be entirely dedicated also to Our Lady and never let a day pass without saying the beautiful prayer, ‘Hail Mary’, and your Rosary. Ask her to enlighten the minds of Protestants who are separated from the Church of Christ founded on the Rock (Peter) and ‘against whom the gates of hell shall never prevail.'” “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.” “Continue to pray the Rosary every day.” http://www.francismary.org/the-protestant-who-would-pray-the-rosary-a-true-story/ |
