It's depends

Did u buy a ticket to toronto eg Klm then you bought Air Canada yourself for your trip from Toronto to edmonton?
If yes then u'll have to pay 4 baggage at air canada

However if u bought ur Klm ticket to Edmonton even thou u will stop at toronto b4 proceeding to Edmonton via air Canada, then u won't pay 4 baggage

Then irrespective of which ever above, u will collect your bags at toronto go thru immigration checks and then return it to Air canada.

1 and half hrs may not be enough, it all depends on d queue n immigration officers attending to you n baggage checks.

However if u miss your flight u will be placed on another flight which sometimes may lead to a wait of 4hrs, it all depends

Hope this helps

Greetings to everyone! I have been a silent reader of this thread and I have gained a lot from all the information provided here.

I have a question for landed seniors who used Ethiopian Airlines. We are planning to land in Edmonton in July and have been searching for flights. I used the airline's mobile app to search and got a really good deal from Lagos to Toronto and then to Edmonton (through air Canada) .

My questions are:
1. Would we be required to pay extra for our checked-in luggages on the air Canada flight from Toronto to Edmonton?

2. Secondly how did y'all book your connecting flights from Toronto to your final destinations? Did you pay for your luggages?

Thanks Vascey.

The company i work with is a global business. I just leveraged on my relationships with the bosses i work with regionally and God was there using them to connect me with the Canadian Vice President and the HR people there who informed me of a role similar to what i was doing in Nigeria. We started exchanging emails back and forth since Dec 2017. In February i had a couple of interviews with them via Skype and the rest as they say is history. Truth is, my wife is very active "silent" reader here on Nairaland and she read a post someone put up here about an Indian family who was struggling in Canada after giving up their cushy jobs in Hewlett Packard and the bank where his wife worked and he was working as a security man in Canada while his wife was working as a nanny or something.One of the things he mentioned he regretted in that post was the fact that he never leveraged on the HP brand before quitting his job. I too was headed in the same direction until I came home from work one night and my wife showed me that post. That was when we began thinking about reaching out to my company in Canada to see if there was room for an internal transfer of sorts...na so i take reach here o.

With regards to conversion of ICAN to CPA via ACCA, see attached. However, I will suggest u reconfirm if it's applicable to your situation

Talkingboy:
Good morning elders ,

Please those familiar with this ICAN/AcCA/CPA issue . Kindly help please .

For someone who has ICAN and pursuing express entry , is it advisable to write ACCA (4 professional level papers) in Nigeria or he should wait till he lands to write CPA and claim exemptions with his ICAN ? how many paper exemptions are we talking about here ?

Thank You

Hope it helps

Copied from TEECAN

I got ICAN to give me my ATS and ACA transcripts, Letter of Good Standing, I packaged my MBA transcript, filled the relevant CPA forms and the painful part , I had to part with 480 CAD processing fee and DHL courier fees (man eye don see enuf in this PR hustle  ). I spent almost 250k all in all (including ICAN fees and outstanding ICAN-ATS dues)

The sorry part now is that when my approval came from CPA Ontario, they said, quoting their mail:

"Your application to register as a student under Accounting Body Outside Canada has been approved. You will be receiving a student confirmation letter once available, however below lists your admission to membership requirements:

- Challenge the examinations of Core 1 and Core 2 Modules;

- Challenge the examinations of two Elective Modules;

- Capstone 1 module;

- Capstone 2 module;

- Common Final Exam (CFE);

- Prescribed Practical Experience (PPE)

Can you imagine,   after almost 10 years of ACA status and finance work, I will have to write THAT MUCH as above.

(But from what I have been reading here, it seems something is not right about the number of papers I was approved to take (as an Internationally Trained Accountant); It is quite much as if I'm starting from the scratch!

To even think I may not been landing in Ontario as I had earlier planned as a FSW is now throwing another curve ball into an already complex matter (I feel like knocking myself, the whole fees and costs)

I'm currently going through as a Sask PNP and I thought of transferring my CPA Ontario application file to CPA Saskatchewan but CPA Sask said I will have to pay all the fees with them all over too.   I don seeee weeenn!

I'm about to withdraw my studentship now as I cant keep paying 600 CAD annual studentship dues when I have not even landed. They ve even sent me a mail (of course bulk mail) whether I want to avail myself of an "early bird" subscription payment for 2018   600 CAD for 2018!

Issyman:

I am also interested in this ICAN/CPA conversion discussion . I am ICAN qualified member. It will be appreciated if any of our seniors can give specific papers to write as an ICAN member.

Blackbuddy:

Hi, it depends on which bridging program you sign on for and the way it is structured. Each bridging program is different and may provide you with an assessment of your education and skills, industrial or workplace experience, skills training or targeted academic training programs, preparation for a licence or certification examination and/or language training for your profession. You will not get paid with most bridging programs, they are mostly in-class trainings. For instance in Ontario, YOU PAY to participate in bridging programs though they are subsidised by the provincial government. Now a few bridging programs have a work placement feature where you get to gain real world experience at the end of the in-class portion. Some of the employers that your training provider partners with MAY offer some stipend for when you are in their organisation, some will not pay you anything. You are there to gain from the experience, the exposure. All bridging programs are not the same so it depends on the make up of the particular one you sign up for. You could also research internships where some of the employers whom you intern with could offer some pay. By researching the various bridging/intern programs available in your intended city/province and making enquiries, you'll get to know the full details of the various programs.

Hello Everyone,

I am a website developer and have my own business (The Managing Director) over 5 years, I wanted to know which NOC do I fall under:

1. NOC code: 2175 Web designers and developers OR NOC code: 0114 for managing directors.

2. Also in my EE profile do I select "Self Employed" OR "Employer"

Thanks.

I would suggest u answer these questions b4 deciding which to choose
1- is your company big, is it a registered Limited liability company with CAC and do u have evidence to prove it

2- do u have lots of staff and do u have evidence to back it.
Becos a lot of times in Naija people mistake sole proprietorship for MD.

I feel u stand a better chance with noc 2175 if your company is not so big or its an enterprise.

Hope it helps

CONTINUATION

My IELTS result is out.......................would love to wet your appetite a bit before I divulge my scores.
I got an email from MOD IELTS yesterday stating that my TRF would be available today..........I started checking their website from that moment. Between yesterday and 9:59am (today), have checked for my result over 50 times (not exaggerating) smiley smiley.
I saw the result some minutes ago....................

SPEAKING - To my greatest surprise I ace the speaking test big time!!!!!!! I scored 8.5 Na so I hear English reach grin grin. I actually thought I messed up big time during the speaking test. e.g I said some words in Yoruba and the examiner asked to me to translate..............and I was lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

READING & WRITING - I scored 7.5 in both............I actually expected a 9 or at worst 8.5 in reading. I was feeling like a badoo after the reading test but 7.5 in writing was a fair score.

LISTENING - grin grin grin grin I score a 6 shocked shocked shocked. Think twice before your register with MOD IELTS.................Listening via speaker is crazy!!! at the end of the listening test, I had some questions unanswered. I guessed and giraffe the answers. Apparently, the hustle did not pay-off well. Listening via speaker instead of headset was crazy. cry cry cry

I for jejely re-enroll with British Council instead of MOD IELTS.................Like play, like play I have spent I have spent over 200k writing IELTS thus far shocked shocked "Chai! there is god ooo grin"
IELTS standing between me and ITA since the days of Ancient Egypt Era (those who wrote JAN 6 IELTS can resonant with "Ancient Egypt Era" grin).

NEXT STEP- I will close early from work, take some bottles of beer in the evening, sleep well...........and will continue with the EE hustle from tomorrow because whether the devil likes it or not I am a Canadian Permanent Resident grin grin.

Thanks Vascey

Getting thru to them is so difficult, they usually don't respond to mail on time with little or no info.

I sent my ECA to them n they said I shld tell WES to
Forward to them

I noticed thru my correspondences with them that they enjoy delaying. So just wanted to be sure the ECA can also be used .

Thanks once again Vascey

vascey:
@follyzee

I don't think you need to upgrade. They are not particular about your degree or courses. They just want to be sure you have an equivalent of University degree from an acceptable university and I believe all WES reports show that.
But you can engage them to be sure before you take any action so you don't spend money unnecessarily.
Cheers
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by follyzee: 12:42pm On Dec 15, 2017
Hi Vascey/ anyone who can help

Pls I need to find out if WES /ICAS report used immigration is Ok to present to CPA (during the process of converting ACCA to CPA) or one needs an upgraded one

IF yes, which assessment will one upgrade to?

Thanks

vascey:

Well, first and foremost, you are meant to be a full member of ACCA. That's the whole point. Have you considered using your NysC as experience? If that's not possible, you have to wait till you arrive in Canada. The challenge with that is that the MRA is yet to be renewed for a defined term, eg 5 years, and therefore could be terminated anytime. So even folks like me that may not travel for another year are taking advantage.
On a different note, hope you are aware you would need to pay up all outstanding dues with ACCA before they would write to CGA about your current standing.

A major advantage for you is that you have your wes report so CPA does not have to evaluate your degree afresh. Just provide them with the Wes report. This part causes a lot of delays but you are definitely past that.

Ultimately, the earlier the better.

Good luck.

My 2 cents on IELTS, ECA n PP
Imagine these 2 scenerios:
Mr A uploads all the doc, IELTS, ECA stamped copies of old and new passports

Mr B uploads all but no IElTS, ECA and no old passport.

Assume u are the VO, u pick both files, u obviously will prefer to work on Mr A file first becos
1, he seem really transparent and open.
2 he has made your work easier, you may not need to contact other embassies and British council.

On the other, u will send Mr Bs file to confirmation unit, they have to confirm and provide evidence of ielts, travel history and eca and it eventually comes out positive.

Results: MR A and B both got PPR, Mr A most likely within 1 month or two. MR B "we have the same AOR, what's delaying my file" it comes out after 5months.

I don't think it will cost us any thing to provide very important doc like IELTS, ECA and stamped old passport.
