I've seen better Bro. If it's not the set of wheels which followed the car, it's most likely Chinese. That they can graft AMG into it or anything else, doesn't make it OEM. You will hardly find those here.

Elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, said the ban is not necessarily binding on the Federal Government. The founding member of Arewa Consultative Forum said: “Nobody can enforce its position on another person in Nigeria”

imagine !

this people thinking is terrible
so southern rulers have no right to rule people under them !

But they can enforce sharia law on others right? They raid, seize and destroy southerner's alcoholic beverages despite gaining from alcohol VAT due to their sharia.

They even seize their deep freezers and encourage alhamajiri to loot and plunder those shops but no, the southerners can't enact their own laws. The same fools who arrest people for eating during Ramadan despite the people not being Muslims. This country is sick!

Well some Ekuigbo people will tell you they are not from Ughelli, same thing some Afisiere persons would say.

Efe-Ju-Vwie - Youthful wealth.

I believe that's Ughelli or the common spoken Urhobo that guy meant by the name Lol! The beauty in our oneness sometimes lies in the ambiguity of our language.

It is spelt correctly, “Efejevwie”
the meaning is just always confusing

Some say something like “it is good to born wealth” or “wealth still dey born” or like the more you are wealthy, the more you give birth”
I have heard different things sha but wealth is certainly there

The bolded is the correct meaning. As I quoted you to say earlier.

I don't know if you spell this correctly, but I can translate it to "Youthful wealth".

I think "youthful wealth" should be Efe-emo emo being children or the young. This is different from Emoefe or Omoefe which both means children/child (are) is wealth.

The correct meaning of that name should be "Wealth is still multiplying" Evwie there being "born".

Eriwin is a very powerful force, if the man knows, he is advised to get the woman packing until some cleansings are done, failure to do so might have great consequences on the kids.

Yes you're right. Never knew the name is Eriwin. Sometimes it even goes beyond the expected to enforce certain things. I'll give you a story which happened to our neighbor.

Their daughter a teenager at the time started seeing men and began sleeping around. This girl had the guts to sleep with her boyfriends in her parent's matrimonial bed! Then it struck! The mum was struck with madness. Having no history of madness in the family, they went to inquire what caused it and it was revealed what was going on.

Now see the thing. It struck the mother with madness because it saw her as the one doing the act simply because she should have taught her daughter that the bed is sacred. Long story cut short, the appeasement was done, and the girl was thrown out of the home. The father disowned her and they had to leave the environment because it was a very big scandal. So the workings of that thing can be mysterious and unpredictable.

Efewestern:

Wow, this is insightful, never knew about this part of the Orogun people.

Yes and it's very serious. A young man was poisoned by his roommate, an Orogun person too. Their houses were just minutes apart back home, over some misunderstanding at school.

The boy's family treated this young man going by the diagnosis the hospital gave being typhoid when they brought him home sick from school. The boy slipped into a coma and died. They didn’t know the cause. The boy was buried immediately and the family left to mourn their dead.

But about a week and half after, this boy who poisoned the other ran out of their home screaming that he'd talk. When asked what happened, he said Erose slapped him. Then he spilled everything that happened and how he poisoned this young man- his roommate. After his confession, he died right there at the spot and that was how everyone knew what happened. I'd have called it a story, if I wasn't a witness.

Orogun people know this which is why Onukpo, Umusu and the other quarters have never ever had a fight or clash since time immemorial because they are siblings and siblings don't kill themselves.

Yes very common, we all share same culture and belief system, language is our only barrier. For example, in Ukwuani, if a married woman cheats on her husband, the gods of the land will visit her family and if she doesn't confesses, her husband or children may die, same with the Urhobos and Isokos.

This is very true! But if the man knows about it and stops to eat her food and stops to sleep with her, it leaves the man alone I think. Then if the woman confesses to the husband, he must call the family together before the curse can go away. Happens till date.

Then I don't know if this also happens in Ukwuani sha but an age long tradition in Orogun is that an Orogun man can never kill another Orogun man or cause him harm, leading to his death. If you do, it's death for the perpetrator and it happens within few weeks. This, I've seen happen!

The oracle of Orogun called Erose is very harsh concerning that because that was what broke Efe their father's home in the first place, when Ogor the first son was moving mad and sought to kill his siblings.

Mosogar is an Urhobo Clan, but Orogun never migrated from there, Orogun was founded by the daughter of Efe whose brothers also founded (Owolukpo) Abbi, Amai, and Umukwata. According to Oral history, Efe was a great warrior who fought several wars/battles.

Orogun was a sister to Ogor, Ughelli and Agbarha. Their father as you rightly said was Efe who was a warrior.

This discussion just triggered so much nostalgia in me you know Bro? Thanks for your contributions

Think I would agree with you the preference for Ukwani by folks born and bred in Orogun.

My friend is a typical example. With his siblings, they relate in Ukwani, with friends and others, strictly English language!

I doubt he speaks Urhobo....never caught him speak it and haven't really asked.

....and why i'm not bothered? I can't quite express myself fluently in the Urhobo language.

Yeah it happens. Probably their dad is Ukwuani? But as I said, both cultures are very inter mixed due to our relationship with Amai.

Then for the bolded, try dey speak am because practice they say makes perfect. Make our own language identity no go dey extinct one day because I find it a worrisome trend, folks born and raised in even Urhobo land no sabi speak am. Some sef dey shame to speak am but dem sabi rap yoruba or others.

You made some nice submissions, but allow me correct this.

Urhobo women aren't regarded as property to any man, if a woman dies in marriage, even if all rites were performed (Traditional marriage), she will be buried in her father's compound unless her family agreed with the man to let them have her.

This is custom and this is tradition!

I didn't really mean property like property which was why I put it in quotes because the world has changed. But I guess I generalized which I should not have. Anyways I'm glad you gave the submission. It means young people are not drifting too far away as I feared from our customs.

I don't know so much about all the tribes in Delta State, but I know an Urhobo girl it happened to. She told me it's their tradition. Ask core Urhobo people; they should know. I didn't make that up.

Perhaps... after all, everywhere have their peculiarities. But if you dug deeper, you may see the reasons I attached could be the cause and even if I can't know everything, Orogun people are among the core Urhobos; Well we all are and an Urhobo man be it from Okpara or okpe is a brother to me any day anytime.

God bless the Urhobo nation, God bless a united south. May all her enemies be destroyed by their ploys. Isé

Beta student!

I did that in my year One: Social Science 1&2

In Year One, I did a bunch of courses that had no business with why I was in school grin

BTW, I heard that the corpses of Urhobo women are often buried in their paternal homes when they die...even if they were married. That clause is disturbing and ought to be expunged.

At the bolded, I don't know where you've seen this happen but I can emphatically say no! It's not like that. In the Urhobo tradition, when a man marries a woman, she becomes "his property". So his land becomes hers. So this can only happen if the husband didn’t marry her properly, or her family never gave consent- at least for the cases I've seen, except the woman is a titled woman in her home soil. I will give you an example.

My great grandfather was from Orogun and was the Okpara-Ukwu (oldest man) before he passed many years ago. His wife from Amai, went on to live up to over a hundred years and she was the Onwai of Amai. At her passing, she was first brought to her husband's house/land, some part of the celebrations were done there as custom demands, thereafter she was taken to be buried at her home in Amai.

Why was this? A titled woman especially an Onwai isn't deemed a "woman" per say anymore but a "man" who's a mother of the community. So at her passing she comes to rest in the land she led during her life time.

Modified: Now put it in contrast. Her son, my grandfather, also married a woman (my grandmother) from Amai. But at her passing, she was buried at Orogun in her husband's house. I hope it's not too complicated the way I explained it Lol

Yeah because it's what happened. We are very much intertwined and what affects the Ukwani man affects the Orogun man too.

We are more stubborn being that the average Orogun man, has a heart of stone when he wants and doesn't take kindly to being intimidated. Senator Omo-Agege should give you more insight about us and he speaks Ukwuani too BTW. The Amai people know this and it's rubbed off on them too.

All the Orogun people I know speak Ukwuani and you won't know they are Urhobos unless they tell you. Case in point my neighbor married to an Ukwuani man from Okwele. It is after she died that my parents told me she is an Orogun woman.

Exactly and as I said earlier, it's usually the older generation who grew up in at Orogun who know the language alot. None of my siblings or cousins speak ukwuani but all my aunts and uncles do. This particular lady probably grew up at Orogun or her parents were mixed thus, being married to an Ukwuani man of course would make them speak predominantly Ukwuani in their home.

My dad and mum are from Orogun, but they speak Ukwuani fluently because they grew up in town and their parents spoke the language. If my mom married an Ukwuani man, I'd probably not know a thing in Urhobo if Ukwuani was the only language spoken at home. it boils down to the fact that we are intertwined though. We've always been very close with Ukwuani people.
