The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked Stephen Keshi, coach of the country’s national team, the Super Eagles. The Cable reports that the decision was made Wednesday night by the executive committee of the newly constituted Nigeria Football Federation, at a meeting at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. Keshi, will now be replaced by Shaibu Amodu, a former coach of the team. He will be supported by Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Aloysius Agu. Garba Lawal, a former player will serve as the team ‘s coordinator. Amodu as a caretaker coach, will take charge of the team for the last two matches in the qualifying round for the 2015 African Cup of Nations. Keshi’s three-year contract with NFF actually expired at the end of the World Cup in Brazil, where he led the team to the second round of the competition, just after winning the African Cup of Nations. The team have had a run of bad results since then, losing to Sudan and Congo in the Group A qualifiers and drawing with South Africa. The team rccorded a 3-1 victory over Sudan in Abuja on Wednesday. But the NFF executives did not seem to be impressed to give Keshi a new contract, more so since Keshi had boasted that he has several African countries waiting to hire him. http://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2014/10/16/football-keshi-nigerian-coach-sacked/

In any civilised and enlightened society, no government that bothers itself about public opinion will allow the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities to go on indefinitely. This is more so when the next general election is coming up in less than two years from now. Ordinarily, this strike is enough to bring down the ruling government in civilised clime, but that is not to be in Nigeria because the government, with all the instruments of office, is not counting on people’s vote, but on their own well designed, perfected and tested scheme. Whether we like it or not, the scheme has worked for them in Offa Local government election and heaven did not fall. The grand design will follow in the 2015 presidential election. After all, what can we the masses do? Nothing! It is sad. Ajiboye Fatunkasi, 25, Adeola Close, Gbagada Road, Lagos State, +23480775485. I’m sure if an opinion poll is sought from across the country on the need to proscribe the Academic Staff Union of the Universities, the body can’t survive the next 48 hours. The inglorious strike embarked upon is uncalled for now that the Federal Government is trying to transform the entire country. If our graduates were being rated as second class abroad, is it ASUU’s obnoxious strikes that will help the students or that the members double their teaching/research efforts? ASUU’s actions tantamount to insubordination, rascality and greed against their employers. The Federal Government should proscribe ASUU now and those who refuse to go back to classes should be dismissed. There are thousands of other qualified people who could be engaged as lecturers all over the country. I asked this question because Me personally can't find a reason to celebrate this year's (2013) independence. Being a final year student of a Nigerian University who is supposed to write his final exams of 4 courses scheduled to be written from 8th-11th July but is yet to write them, what is there to celebrate? Yes, You guessed correctly. From nowhere ASUU surfaced and on July 1st embarked on this unending strike that has disrupted the academic activities and is already affecting the moblization of students for NYSC. So as a Nigerian University student, I want to know if You will celebrate Nigeria at 53. |
franchizy: In as much as I do not support the killing, I have said it over and over that the declaration of state of emergency or military option is not the panacea to solving the Boko Haram menace.Shaaraaaap!!! Who told You that 60% of Boko Haram members are Christians? Or are You one of them? Islam is a religion of war, hatred and mediocrity. Get that into your senseless skull |
