A Nigerian lady has compounded her own woes after a failed attempt to shoot dead a police officer who was asked to monitor her after her arrest for drug trafficking.

31-year-old Blessing Rapuruchukwu Okafor had been arrested with 74 capsules of cocaine at the Canova airport in Trevisto, Italy.

She is said to be among the immigrants that earlier entered Italy through Libya using the Mediterranean Sea. Okafor had been taken to the hospital to excrete the ingested cocaine.

THE UGLY NATURE OF TRUTH

“Truth they say is bitter” but the true meaning of this metaphorical expression is elusive to the vast majority of people who sojourn endlessly all through life in the quest for finding it, and most people when they eventually walks close to the corridor where TRUTH resides,

many passes out because of the sacred, scary and ugly nature of TRUTH hence the vast majority of people today does not really encounter Truth all through their life journey no matter how hard they try so they end up living with the LIE even when the TRUTH is staring them at the face and this is the situation of majority of the APC supporters in Rivers State and Nigeria in extension today, but the quest for TRUTH is a journey every upright individual in life should embark upon no matter how arduous it may seem because upon discovery and consummation,

the glory of its possession brings light that illuminates our life and projects us to the path of our destiny although am going to dwell on Rivers APC for the sake of clarity on this piece.

I am not a politician neither do I carry the card of any political party but as a realist and a progressive youth of Rivers state and a social analyst, I felt compel to speak at this time to awaken the consciousness of the vast majority of the youths whose destiny and mental capacity has been substituted with a subservient believe that they cannot make it in life without bowing down to a demi god that doesn’t have their interest at heart, they complement him even when he is so wrong and continue to sing “CRA Lead I Follow” even when he is leading them to the slaughter house.

The continuous Hark-Back to the past of the Hon. Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi on how he is being betrayed by those he helped and the continued Hallosinunu from him is one that brings his honesty and mental capacity to question because the continued Harp-on about the topic of betrayal is one that shouldn’t come from someone in his position if his self-esteem and honesty was still in place.

Take the picture back to 1999, when Amaechi Started his political career, he came into political visibility on the aegis of Sir Dr. Peter Odili who against all odds made him the speaker of the house of assembly while Sen. Magnus Abe went to the assembly on his own accord on the platform of ANPP through the goodwill of his people, but the story of Amaechi and Dr. Peter Odili today is one that needs no recollection and if there is anything worse than betrayal, then that is what Ameachi served the man who brought him to limelight and as such should not talk about Betrayal for he is the master-craft of the said word.

Bringing it a little forward to 2007, before the Hon. Minister became the governor during his K-LEG misdemeanour that exiled him from the country, it took the effort of few individuals to turn the hand of injustice aright and enthroned him a governor while still in his hideout on exile, and he categorically mention two names which include (a) Magnus Ngei Abe & (b) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on the day of his thanks giving as those who made it possible for him to ascend the office but the records of his relationship with these individual today will buttress the essence for my submission that Amaechi is an enemy to himself and to those around him and his environment.

The TRUTH is always there for all to see and am not fro-ward to impugn about his position as a leader because grace and destiny has made it so but his continuous huff off from the truth and looking for whom to blame about the crisis in Rivers APC is one that required him to re-access himself before he falls from grace, and just as H.E Nyesom Wike has rightly suggested when he said he should be recommended for psychiatric evaluation, many realist like myself do not consider it an insult but a brotherly advice to a fellow Ikwerre Man.


The crisis in Rivers APC is one that was unnecessary but for the Megalomaniac nature of the self-acclaimed lion who only “Roars but can’t Devour”, and because he was set out with a singular agenda of stopping Magnus Abe from contesting for governor owing to the mass appeal and yearning from the members of the party who are aware of the capacity of the distinguish senator, Ameachi plunged Rivers APC into an Abyss of uncertainty which may put the party into permanent oblivion if something urgent is not done to curtail his dictatorial tendencies because of his quest for a stooge as governor who can further his course for a selfish political dynasty and this is the UGLY TRUTH.

Magnus Abe today has become a political Marshmallow to the people of goodwill and sound mind across Rivers State and beyond because he has shown character, capacity and intelligence needed for a good leader as opposed to the Oedipus-Complex state of mind that the Transport Minister has shown each time he accuses Abe of Betraying Him and working with Gov. Wike Against his party.

The greatest adversary of The Hon. Minister of transport Rotimi Amaechi is the microphone, because each time they come in contact it rapes him and leaves him bare necked and exposes his past, present and future, and leaves him at the cross road at the brink of self-destruction with no hiding place and this trend doesn’t seem would end any soon.


THE UGLY TRUTH[center][/center][left][/left]

The Ugly TRUTH as at today is that Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi does not love Rivers State and is doing everything to destroy APC and is responsible for majority of the security challenges we have in Rivers State today, and my reasons are as follows.

Amaechi is responsible for the instability In Rivers APC
Amaechi has robbed Rivers People of a viable opposition that should be checkmating the current PDP led government which is necessary for good governance
Amaechi masterminded the disregard for the court injunction on the illegal delegate election which is the crux of the problem of Rivers APC today.
Amaechi brought in a political alien in the person of TDC to usurp the position of those who had sacrificed everything they had to build the party APC
Amaechi has not attracted any meaningful developmental project from the federal gov’t to Rivers State but he only comes to the state to instigate violence anytime there is an election
Amaechi is promoting the Ikwerre Agenda to the detriment of fairness and equity in the state
And another angle to this whole imbroglio is the ripple effect the situation is having on the good people of Rivers State across party lines and that’s why some apolitical citizens like myself is voicing out my displeasure with the whole scenario.

The preconception that the Hon. Minister has crested on the minds of the people outside Rivers State on insecurity is DE marketing the state, the time and opportunity lost which may never be regained because of the crisis he is instigating, the lost hopes and glory of the teeming Rivers youth,

Indeed Ameachi has actually robbed Rivers people of the benefit of good governance but some of our youth and even elder has chosen to play the fool by assuming the whole of the devil’s advocate of the Minister by constantly defending him even when it is glaringly clear that his actions and decision is only sinking the ship.

Amaechi is not a God he is human and his actions and utterances has become a recipe for disaster and chaos at all times, his lies against Abe and his supporters is not doing the party and the state any good hence he needs to stop and take a retrospective view of his actions, and if he wishes well for Rivers State then there should be a change of heart from him,

A Kano state Magistrate court has granted activist and convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, bail.

Adeyanju was arrested on November 28th 2018 while leading a protest in Abuja. He was released on December 3rd 2018 from the federal prison in Keffi after meeting his bail condition and then re-arrested by a police team waiting around the prison. He has been in prison since then.


The court this morning, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties. The court also ordered him to deposit his international passport.

Adeyanju had spent 63 days in prison before his release was granted on Monday.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, on Sunday raised the alarm that his life is in danger following the withdrawal of his security details allegedly on the order of the state governor, Yahaya Bello.

Achuba made the allegation at a press briefing where he said he was shocked after returning from a trip to his village where he had gone for the Saturday’s scheduled elections to find the gate to his official residence empty without any of his security personnel.

He said, “I was surprised to see that all policemen attached to my house had been withdrawn. I then put a call across to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari, who also expressed shock and promised to give the matter an urgent attention. After about an hour, I called him again but he refused to pick my call. I sent a text message to him and up till now, he has not got back to me.”


The deputy governor called on the acting Inspector-General of Police to intervene so as to maintain law and order in the state. He also called on the Federal Government to intervene in the affairs of Kogi State whose citizens, he claimed, had been subjected to hardship.

“When God gives you the privilege to rule a people, the people should not be taken for granted. You don’t have to use force for your policy to scale through if they are popular and people-oriented,” he said.

He said that the point of departure between himself and the governor was in the area of urging the government to do things according to the will of the people to which no one had been listening.

When contacted, the Director-General, Media and Publicity to the governor, Kingsley Fanwo, said it was not the state governor’s responsibility to post security details to the deputy governor.

Troops of Operation Safe Conduct have arrested suspected political thugs with weapons in Osun while a station wagon golf alleged to have been overloaded with arms has been burnt to ashes by some youths in Zamfara.

According to Colonel Sagir Musa, Acting Director Army Public Relations, soldiers deployed to provide security for the Presidential/National Assembly Elections at Iwaraja Junction along Osun and Ogun axis on Saturday at about 0730hrs intercepted three hoodlums on motorcycle moving towards Ilesa East LGA to disrupt smooth conduct of elections in that area.

“The hoodlums were arrested and the following items were recovered from them: 1 locally made pistol, 1 cutlass, 3 rounds of cartridges, 3 mobile phones, iPad, 1× Peace Corps face cap, 1 Peace Corps ID card and the sum of N14,300.

“Those arrested will be handed over to the police upon completion of initial profiling and investigation,” the statement added.

Ahead of presidential and national assembly elections that was postponed on 16th February, 2019, a station wagon golf alleged to have been overloaded with arms was burnt to ashes by some youths around the area before police arrived at the scene.

Customs officers along Benin-Asaba road on Sunday killed a young man in a passenger bus.

The deceased was said to be coming from Lagos with other passengers when the officers stopped the vehicle and demanded a N5,000 bribe.

In the ensuing altercation, one of the officers shot the passenger, a development that infuriated other passengers.

The passengers reportedly mobilised and prevented the officers from leaving the scene.

They also disarmed them before descending on them, according to an eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent.

After much anticipation, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections, scheduled for Saturday.

Announcing the postponement at some minutes, before 3am, Professor Mahmood Yakubu read a statement to Nigerians, surrounded by national commissioners.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) met on Friday, 15th February 2019 and reviewed its preparations for the 2019 General Election scheduled for Saturday, 16th February 2019 and Saturday, 2nd March 2019.

Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible elections, the Commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible.

Consequently, the Commission has decided to reschedule the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to Saturday, 23rd February 2019. Furthermore, the Governorship, State House of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections is rescheduled to Saturday 9th March 2019. This will afford the Commission the opportunity to address identified challenges in order to maintain the quality of our elections.

This was a difficult decision for the Commission to take, but necessary for the successful delivery of the elections and the consolidation of democracy.

The Commission will meet key stakeholders to update them on this development at 2p.m. on Saturday, 16th February 2019 at the Abuja International Conference Centre.

Yesterday Sunday, January 2019, four governorship candidates in Lagos ahead of the 2019 general elections had great talks in a live debate asking Lagos residents to kick them out if they did not keep up with their promises of tremendous performance when elected.

The candidates who participated included
abajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Owolabi Salis of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), and
Babatunde Gbadamosi of the Action Democratic Party (ADP).

In a letter from our Editor-in-Chief Bayo Olupohunda None of the candidates categorically said he would only govern the state for four years, but they all agreed that they had great names to protect and that if their promises are not kept, the residents should send them out of the Government House. Answering a question that he was relatively unknown until now and whether he had an independent mind to govern the state, Sanwo-Olu told the panelists that he had been in government since 2002.

He also spoke of some of his achievements since being in the Lagos government service saying that in an instance, he worked without collecting a dime from the state. He further said his achievements in government were made possible because he was never influenced by any godfather adding that he has a name to keep. "As commissioner for establishment, I was training a thousand teachers a year. We are going to be looking at capacity development for our primary school teachers," he said. On his part, Agbaje denied going under after the 2015 general elections saying he had made several public appearances since then.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has finally been issued a visa to the United States.

A family source disclosed today, adding that the former vice-president has left Nigeria for the UK, where he would spend some time before flying to the U. S.



It was learnt that former President Olusegun Obasanjo played a “critical” role in getting the U.S. American government to issue the visa advising that they be cautious in granting a visa to the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in order not to create the impression of endorsing him for the 2019 election.




Owing from an earlier statement by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information on Thursday warning the US to be cautious in granting a visa to the main opponent of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election.



However, commenting on Atiku’s visa status on Friday, Rusell Brooks, spokesman of the US consulate in Lagos, said issuance of the visa to Nigerians irrespective of their status is strictly a confidential matter.

Big Set Back For Atiku Election As Gov Wike set resigns As SS Campaign Director

Reports suggest a major upset is set to hit the presidential campaign of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar as the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike allegedly resigned his appointment as the south-south zonal coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential campaign council.

According to a report by The Sun, Wike’s letter of resignation as Atiku’s campaign coordinator for the south-south is ready and would be submitted today, Saturday.

Recall that the PDP had in October named Senate President, Bukola Saraki, as Director-General of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council along with prominent leaders of the party as zonal coordinators.

Announcing their appointment, the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus, had said: “After due consultation with party stakeholders, PDP, under my leadership has approved the following as members of Atiku Presidential Campaign Council.”

Apart from the Senate president, Ayo Fayose, Aminu Tambuwal, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Samuel Ortom, Nyesom Wike and Dave Umahi were named as zonal coordinators.

While Governor Aminu Tambuwal was named as the Zonal Coordinator for NorthWest, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo was appointed Zonal Coordinator for North-East, Governor Samuel Ortom for North-Central, Governor Dave Umahi for South-East, Nyesom Wike for South-South and former Governor Ayodele Fayose as Zonal Coordinator for the SouthWest.

Reports coming in from Nonwa of Tai Local Government Area, the training centre for newly employed members of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Corp, is to the effect that hundreds of Soldiers of the Nigerian Army have shut down the training camp based on “orders from above.”

The Neighbourhood Safety Corp, which is also operational in Lagos State, was set up by the Rivers State Government to assist the security agencies in the State manage security issues as well as provide jobs for Rivers people.

The Federal Government’s move to shut it down is not only illegal, it negates all legitimate efforts to promote peace and security in Rivers State and also provide jobs for Nigerians, most of whom have been left jobless by the bad economic policies of the APC led Government.

As a follow up on the rescue operation from the site of the 7 storey building collapse in Woji that happened on Friday 23, November 2018, Five Bodies Pulled out Dead from Collapsed PH Building. Rescuers at the site of the collapsed building in Port Harcourt have rescued five dead victims late last night, their identity yet unknown.



Another victim was also rescued alive with severe injuries and was rushed to the Braithwaite Memorial Town, Old GRA in Port Harcourt also last night.



While the state government is yet to release an official update on the rescue operation, the latest rescue brings the number of those who have been brought out, either dead or alive to about 37. About 200 persons were reported in the building, including a pregnant woman when the 7 storey building collapsed on Friday, last week.



A relative who spoke to the Holy Gist on the condition of anonymity lamented that rescue operation at the site had been very slow with the necessary equipment to hasten the operation lacking.



The source who has been at the site of the incident since Friday disclosed to our correspondent that his cousin had supplied scaffolds to the site engineer and was waiting for his money when the building drop on everyone. He added that he was interacting with him from the inside as at Saturday via his phone, but lamented that the line has since then been unreachable.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been formally turbaned as the seventh Waziri of Adamawa Emirate.

The position of Waziri makes the former vice-president next to the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo, in the hierarchy in the emirate.

Speaking at the occasion, Barkindo said Atiku was honoured with the title of Waziri because of his immense contributions to the development of Nigeria, particularly Adamawa state, where his impact is felt in various sectors.

“Atiku has also contributed greatly to unifying the people of Adamawa and providing useful advise to the emirate,” he said.

Chairman of the Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Mathew Achigbe, is dead.


Achigbe died in an auto crash along Afikpo Road in Ebonyi State in the early hours of Saturday while on his way back from a church programme in Enugu State.


He was said to have died alongside other yet-to-be-identified occupants in his Toyota Sports Utility Vehicle.

The state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bassey Ita, did not pick up calls to his phone when contacted.



However, the state party Vice Chairman, Mr. John Ochala, said the news came as a rude shock to party members.

He said, “He went for a Catholic Church programme and was on his way to Obubra when this incident happened.

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission says it has detected the names of 1224 dead persons in the voter register in Adamawa State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Kassim Gaidam, who said this at the commencement of a two-day workshop for Election Monitoring Implementers for the North East Zone, in Yola, the state capital, disclosed that the names were uncovered through the voter clean-up exercise in the state.

“The statistics of 1,224 dead persons, which we can confirm were on the register, were uncovered during the recent display of voter register for claims and objections,” he added.



The two-day zonal implementers training workshop organised by Election Monitoring and Support Centre, with the support of the European Centre for Electoral Support, was attended by INEC’s resident electoral commissioners for the six states in the North-East except that of Bauchi State, who sent a representative because of the bye-election he had to supervise.



INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who was represented by Prof. Mohammed Kuna, said the training was to build the capacities of those manning its election monitoring support centres to ensure better coordination.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released a new timetable after announcing a shift in the commencement date of the November/ December 2018 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) to November 19.



The examination was initially slated to begin on November 15.



However, based on a circular on its website, the examination is expected to commence on November 19 and end on December 19, 2018.
