Buhari is mean and not considerate. GEJ must win. Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, says he can never forgive the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), because of the sins he committed against Yoruba leaders while he was head of state between December 1983 and August 1985. The 87-year-old, who was a close associate of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, said Buhari locked up all the Yoruba governors after overthrowing the Shehu Shagari government. Adebanjo said this at a post-National Conference in Lagos titled, ‘Into tomorrow and beyond’ on Thursday. He said, “Back then, Awolowo warned Shagari that his government would soon hit the rock if he did not put things in order. Shortly after, in December 1983, Buhari overthrew the government but the man that was speaking against Shagari (Awolowo), was harrassed by Buhari. “Buhari picked up all the Yoruba governors: Adekunle Ajasin (Ondo State); Olabisi Onabanjo (Ogun) and others, who were true progressives and locked them up. “Somebody said I am a Christian and I should forgive Buhari but I said I cannot forgive such. Ajasin’s children say they have forgiven Buhari but I am not in their party, I can’t forgive him.” Adebanjo said the North was against the implementation of the resolutions of the confab because the region was enjoying the system which is unfavourable to southern Nigeria. He, therefore, urged Yoruba to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan next week as he had promised to implement the report of the confab. He also dismissed claims that he and other Afenifere leaders had been bribed by Jonathan. He said, “I am saying vote Jonathan not because he is Ijaw or from the South-South. No northerner will convoke a national conference because everything we are talking of that has been unfavourable to the South; they (North) are the beneficiaries.” Copyright PUNCH.
Jonathan is for the masses. Nigerians vote wisely, GEJ must go!!!!!!!! Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda and Diversifying Nigeria’s Economy 01 Mar 2013 Font Size: a / A President Goodluck Jonathan Dr Socrates Chime In his essay, ‘Social Analysis of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Joanthan’ published in the European Scientific Journal July edition vol. 8, No.16, John E. Gyong, a Sociologist from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, presented a classic analysis of the Transformation Agenda, its strengths, weaknesses and what it must take to realise its targets. According to ABU Sociologist, Nigeria is not new to having its leaders come up with a number of visions and policies since Independence. He however maintained that Jonathan’s a 5-year development plan 2011-2015, differs based on its being a well thought out policy document backed by a world class team of 28 technocrats under his personal Chairmanship and the coordination of the renowned Economist, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The Transformation Agenda was necessitated by the need to correct the flaws in the country’s drive for development where there is absence of long-term perspective, and lack of continuity, consistency and commitment (3Cs) to agreed policies. The culminating effect of these has been growth and development of the Nigerian economy without a concomitant improvement in the overall welfare of Nigerian citizens. According to the information contained in the enabling document, the Transformation Agenda is based on and draws inspiration from the Vision 20:2020 and the first National Implementation Plan (NIP). It aims to deepen the effects and provide a sense of direction. Leaving no one in doubt as to the ‘how’ of the Transformation Agenda, the President stated he has great confidence in the ability of Nigerians to transform the country. What should be required of his Administration was to provide a suitable environment for productive activities to flourish. He went on to appeal all good people of Nigerian to enlist as agents of the great Transformation Agenda. The Transformation Agenda is based on a set of priority policies and programmes which, when implemented, would transform the Nigerian economy to meet the future needs of the people. Implicit in the DNA of the Transformation Agenda is the determination of the Jonathan Administration to diversify the economy away from oil and make sure that the external sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, solid minerals, and services sectors are vibrant and thriving. The call by the President for everyone to enlist as agents of the Transformation Agenda was heeded by all well-meaning Nigerians, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government with an uncommon patriotic zeal. The Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Okonjo-Iweala, quickly got the President’s assent to introduce, for the first time in the annals of Nigeria’s public service, a performance-based system which requires the various Ministries (and by implication, Departments and Agencies under them) to present their scorecards at agreed periods. The idea was to underscore the needlessness of a ‘workshop syndrome’ where ‘blueprints and strategic documents’ are churned out regularly, but filed away. The ‘Bible’ for the Jonathan Administration will be the Transformation Agenda document and commitment to its implementation should be the creed by which every public servant should live. Among the institutions under the Federal Ministry of Finance is Nigerian Export-Import Bank – NEXIM. For NEXIM Bank, the question of embracing the Transformation Agenda was not just about political correctness, but more fundamentally because it is a raison d’e-tre for its existence. Fully reinventing itself from a loss to profit making institution 2010 under Orya’s leadership, the then new NEXIM management, with the endorsement of its Shareholders embarked on a Strategic Transformation Plan (2010 – 2015) with the assistance of KPMG Consulting firm. A key aspect of the initiative was the redefinition of the Bank’s target sectors to focus on high growth sectors with significant employment generation potentials. The sectors, termed “MASS Agenda”, are Manufacturing, Agriculture, Solid Minerals and Services. The Services sector is further broken down into three major subsectors, namely Creative & Entertainment, Tourism (Hotels, Resorts, and Arts & Craft) and Transport. An important factor in the strategic transformation by NEXIM was the holistic approach taken by the Management to ensure adequate capitalisation, adoption of a robust enterprise-wide risk management framework, good corporate governance principles, smarter business processes, clearer focus and compliance with regulations and relevant government policies. Towards delivering its mandate, the Bank has till date intervened in the Nigerian economy by providing credit and risk bearing support in excess N82.21bn and US273.24million to over 900 projects. It has also aided the creation and sustenance of over 46,110 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs, in addition to generating over US$1.2billion in foreign exchange earnings. More specifically, from August, 2009 when the Orya-led Management came on board, about N23billion has been disbursed and this has created 10,728 direct jobs and foreign exchange earnings of about $188.47million. This statistics are almost 5months retro as the Bank continues to improve on its performance by the day. As the Trade Policy Bank of Government of Nigeria, NEXIM participates actively in the formulation and implementation of the Government Trade and Industrial Policy. The Bank is a member of the Trade Facilitation Task Force, whose main mandate is to improve Nigeria’s Ranking on ‘Trading across Borders’. Towards this, the Bank partners with relevant trade facilitating institutions to organise seminars and discuss policy issues with agencies such as CBN, NEPC, NIPC, NDE, SMEDAN, NACCIMA, MAN, Chambers of Commerce, Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NEPC). The Bank is also the National Guarantor under the ECOWAS Interstate Transit Scheme. Just recently, on February 22, 2013, the Bank was given the right to host the 2014 Borderless Alliance Conference in recognition of its role towards making Nigeria Africa’s export trade springboard. At various times, the Bank has been involved in some of the President’s initiatives on targeted development in sectors/ industries like Tourism, Cocoa, Textile, Cassava, Sesame seeds and more recently the Creative and Entertainment Industry through the Nigerian Creative and Entertainment Industry Stimulation Loan Scheme (NCEILS). This is part of the Federal Government’s effort to bolster the industry and has seen practitioners granted loans of over N800 million according to data from the Bank. One of the movies, Dr BELLO, funded from the facility is well on the way to becoming a global hit with premieres across several continents and in box offices across about 50 theatres in the US alone. Presently, NEXIM is in the last trimester of its gestation to birth the laudable Sealink Project which aims to boost maritime trade within the economic community by 300 per cent. The new shipping company will connect West and Central African ports with a fleet of 3,000 to 5,000-tonne ships that will greatly reduce goods shipment times, in addition to lowering the cost of business for regional companies. The Federal Government has technically endorsed the Sealink project as of Wednesday February 13, 2013 after the brilliant presentation of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on the Ministry’s enviable scorecard to the FEC. The Sealink Project has also consistently enjoyed the support and advocacy of Dr. Olusegun Aganga who cannot wait for its take-off. For all that, it will be not be a Government-driven project, but private sector driven or at best a PPP. On its part, NEXIM is merely facilitating the initiative, in collaboration with other stakeholders such as ECOWAS and the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry, FEWACCI. One of the key objectives of President Goodluck’s Transformation Agenda is in the area of encouraging large-scale industries and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES) to manufacture goods, revitalize ailing industries, promote agriculture and agro businesses, encourage local content strategy and develop Information Technology and Communication (ICT) to be the major driver of the economy. With the giant strides NEXIM is taking, it is safe to say that the Transformation Agenda is realistic and achievable. Chime, a former diplomat, resides in Lagos
GEJ is the first Nigerian democratically elected Nigerian president in history to organise a confab and he is set to implement their resolution. :e is a man of the people, who knows that other people's opinion count. Ride on President Goodluck Jonathan till 2019 http://www.channelstv.com/2015/03/18/fec-approves-full-implementation-of-confab-report/ |
The irresponsible allegations of APC: These guys dont realise that in Cote d Ivoire, there was already a civil war on, and the UN was part of the electoral process. Also, the opposition had the backing of a certain European Nation! This was why the UN and the AU accepted that the opposition form a parallel Government, after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the opposition, after the third count. Nigeria is a totally different scenario. No Western Gov is backing any opposition here (people should stop confusing AKPD/consultants propaganda with the neutral position of the US Government). There is no civil war on in Nigeria with the UN involved in our election. The threat of forming a parallel Gov should be treated as TREASON. The false accusations from Tinubu, Mbaka and co, "of Mr President wanting to kill them", should be legally dealt with! This is criminal, especially, when there is absolutely no evidence. Nigerians dont want desperate politicians to cause confusion and turn Nigeria into a bloodbath, simply because of their own selfish desperation to grab power at all costs!

General Muhammadu Buhari, a former dictator who was deposed in the 1980s after seizing power in a coup, is Jonathan's main contender. Buhari has pledged to lock up Nigerian politicians and civil servants who oppose or hinder his policies if he is elected.

This is the time for Africa to wake up to the truth and realities on the ground. Afica's largest party symbolised by the big umbrella has the capacity to accommodate everybody and is set to yet again claim victory at the polls however the opposition party APC sensing it's impending loses is quick to spread falsehood as a means to cause confusion and create anarchy.

Is like Buhari forgot something in Aso Rock that he want to go and collect. He should forget it or ask GEJ to help him get it because he is not going back there. The National Coordinator for President Goodluck Jonathan, support group, (Jonathan Shall Lead Again), (JOSLA), Comrade Curtis Ugbo has declared support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari in the 28 March general elections. Ugbo, nicknamed the ‘peoples Speaker’ who spoke to newsmen shortly after he defected with thousands of his supporters cited insincerity on the part of the Edo State PDP leaders as one of the main reasons that led to their defection to the APC alleging that his members who mobilized towards the successful campaign rally for President Jonathan were dumped. He said “As you are aware am the BOT Chairman and grant patron of Jonathan Shall Lead Again Movement with structure across the country we have been supporting Jonathan’s re-election since 2012 but here in Edo state I discovered that the PDP leaders have not been carrying people along. PDP in Edo state is in wrong hands, the party never shows any appreciation. What will the PDP leaders attracte or do for the people with their billions? What kind of leaders are they? On Buhari candidacy he said “ Buhari is going to win the election and we are going to give him our total support, so those who are making noise about his age are just playing politics. Buhari intelligence is what counts, this is a man that has ruled us before, so age has nothing to do with it. Brethren, This is a desperate and urgent call from the throne of Grace that the brethren in Christ are about to make the greatest error of their lives by selling off their kingly heritage for a mess of pottage called "change". Change into what? Change into what happened to Egypt , Sudan, Lybia, Algeria and Turkey which were once flourishing Christian countries but because the brethren there also sold their souls on the premise of "it does not matter" they became the last set of Christians in those countries! Remember Turkey! It was the beautiful Christian country called Constantinople! Today it is history! The foundation of the planned islamisation of Nigeria was taken in 1989 in Abuja by OIC. Since then they have not looked back! Our Government gave them a contribution of 21 billion dollars then! Wonder then where the funding of boko Haram is coming from? They have painfully now infiltrated one of the biggest denominations in Nigeria and offered one of their best Pastors -a Professor,a Vice presidential Slot! Now a larger community of that denomination now promotes this "change"! They did it in Constantinople ! Remember brethren, that the biggest denomination of Christians in the North - the EYN has been wiped off! All their churches burnt. You may say that it is the North it can't get here! They said the same thing in Sudan, Libya, Algeria and Constantinople! How come the brethren have become so dulled in the Spirit that they no longer are sensitive? We may be the last Christians in Nigeria if this grave error the brethren is about to commit is not averted! Our Lord Jesus is greatly miffed by our irresponsibility as His Followers! How come we no longer hear Him! The Great shepherd of the Sheep! How come that Christians have forgotten that this country was made ungovernable by these same people and Christians are holding the wrong person responsible? How come? The signs of the eventual Islamization of Nigeria are awash in the 1999 constitution where Islam, Sharia a PDP is a fraud. Nigerians deserve better than them and we must ensure that they are not rewarded with another four years after sixteen years of backward and very unproductive leadership. lalasticlala seun obinoscopy ishilove, please do the needful as usual.
President Jonathan’s transformation in agric. sector- Let us for once not politicize the sensitive issue of food security. Truth be told, the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration has made tremendous progress towards the transformation of the agriculture sector under the dynamic leadership of the Minister, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina. Indeed, there is no better time to highlight these achievements than now as the country faces an imminent downturn in crude oil revenue. Quality food production serves the twin objectives of ensuring food security and job creation. For instance, of the 1.2million jobs created in 2014 the sector was responsible for a large percentage of it. President Goodluck Jonathan Nigeria, like over 170 countries in the world is a signatory to every citizen’s right to quality food through adequate nutrition in line with the United Nations Organization’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948). The World Food Summit followed in 1996. And the Expert Consultations on the Right to Food came in 1997-98. To have access to food that is nutritious, affordable and available is based on the massive production, preservation and processing of the raw materials. As at independence in October 1960, Nigeria’s economy was squarely predicated on the fortunes of agriculture from the pyramids of groundnut, maize , sorghum, cotton and cowhide up north; cocoa, coffee, cassava and yam tubers down south-west as well as palm oil and rubber in the south-east. Even when practiced then with obsolete equipment and local technology, agriculture was responsible for 80 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product, 92.7 per cent Foreign Exchange earnings and employed up to 70 per cent of the rural populace. Unfortunately, the oil boom era of the ‘70s and ‘80s was characterized by the contract-seeking syndrome of the elite, the rural-urban migration of the youth and the long years of avaricious military dictatorship. Food production dipped. That was in spite of programmes such as River Basin Authorities, Green Revolution and Operation Feed the Nation. So, how did the Jonathan administration make the difference? First and foremost, the Adesina-led team began by looking at agriculture purely as a business venture; with the government driving the process using the well-oiled machinery of an all-inclusive, transparent, creative and courageous approach to food production, post-harvest preservation and processing. Connecting well with the real farmers at the grassroots did the magic. Through the pragmatic synergy between the farmers and government, aptly called Agriculture Transformation Agenda (ATA) an additional 21 million metric tons (mmt) of food has been added to the national production through N900bn investment in the past three years. Increased production has come from rice, maize, oil palm, cotton, cocoa and cassava farmers. It is a similar sweet song for fish farmers. Little wonder that food import bills are tumbling down. Similarly, a new crop of agric business men and women receive grants(not loans) to start their own businesses. In fact, only last week 27 young entrepreneurs got N123 million in the same vein. For the first time in our recent history, dry season farming is now in place, boosted by government’s support for irrigation by the resuscitation of many moribund dams across the country. Good to note that the over four decades rot in the fertilizer procurement has been consigned to the dustbin of history. The unscrupulous middle men who once reaped from where they never sowed have been wiped off the scene. Some 14 million Nigerian farmers with their electronic wallets now receive quality bags of fertilizers, high-yielding seedlings and fingerlings directly, all at highly subsidized rate. Furthermore, with the Growth Enhancement Scheme(GES) seasoned farmers such as Alhaji Hassan, the Serkin Noma of Zamfara state, Agnes Mark, Hadiza Musa, Hajiya Tela, Senator Dasadau and Tunde Owoeye were confident to come forward during the first-ever AGRIFEST recently held in Abuja to tell sweet tales of success they have achieved in the agriculture sector. In fact, Owoeye, the CEO of Elephant Africa which used to the number one importer of rice can now boast of being the number one local producer of the staple food. There is a new lease of life for the rice farmers, with the supply of improved seedlings that mature in only six months. The rice revolution is on from Kebbi through Niger to Abakaliki. Currently, two-thirds of the rice we used to import is now being grown within our shores. The rice import substitution of about $1.6 billion in combined rice value chain has been generated. Now, the once abandoned rice mills are backs and running with the most modern technological-driven machines. According to Senator Dansadau, the first seed supplier that came to the country back in 1986 left three years later for lack of patronage. But by 2005 there were 33 seed companies. Now Nigeria is ranked number one in Africa, with an increase in volume from 4,352 mmt to 149,484 mmt of seeds, thanks to the true transformation in the agric sector. While 10 mmt of maize has been added to national production in three years, there is a similar value chain created for sorghum used in malt drinks across the country. For the cassava sub-sector there is the composite cassava-wheat bread beginning with 10 per cent cassava flour. Some 130 mmt of high-yielding cassava stems have been supplied to farmers resulting in an increase from 45 mmt to 55mmt between 2010 and 2014.There is an estimated N16 billion obtained from the value chain created in several states including Osun, Abia and Cross River. The cocoa boom is back with emphasis on the supply of high-yielding, improved seedlings as well as the processing of its beans for local manufacturing of beverages and export. So it is the focus on oil palm, with 1 million seedlings for an expected 70,000 hectares of land by 2016. Also, fish farmers including those at Argungun are gaining greater access to the best of nets, fishing boats and engines in addition to fish feeds. And for the first time in Nigeria’s history, we now have a Deep Sea Marine Vessel to boost fish farming. For the 750,000 young Nigerian graduates ready to eat the humble pie by engaging in the agric sector through YEAP they would soon say goodbye to both unemployment and hunger. If American farmers are ranked as the richest professionals, why not replicate that in Nigeria? Well done, our farmers’ president. The best way to get the people’s heart, and of course, their votes is through their stomach! God forgive me!. Am having a serious crush on the incoming first lady. So cool, so nice, so brilliant, so sweet voice, and above all so beautiful. I pray to continue seeing her face for next 4yrs and possibly meet her sometime as a first lady. Won't like to loose to the background. Sai APC! Sai Change! Sai Buhari! Amen.
Wake up from your dream. Just ten days to the presidential election of March 28, a survey carried out by a National Think Tank Group, has predicted victory for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari. The two-page analysis of the survey, tagged: “Straw Prediction of 2015 Presidential Election”, made available to Daily Sun by Dr. Peter Orji, gave Buhari/APC an estimated votes of 15.4 million and President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), 11 million. The researchers stated that they arrived at the figures after “a careful study of the demographics of Nigeria voting patterns, based on an unbiased analysis of how voters shall cast their votes.” According to the group, Buhari would lead in the North-East, North- West, North-Central and South-West, while Jonathan would win in the South-South and South-East. The survey said Buhari would eventually have an upper hand going by heavy votes he would record in his catchment areas against Jonathan, who the survey said, would garner fewer votes in his areas of strength. However, unlike 2011, General Buhari, the survey said, “will secure substantial votes in the North-Central and greatly improve his showing in the South-East.” The survey summed up the distribution of the votes across the zones thus: “North-Central, PDP, 1.73million, APC, 1.86million. North-East, PDP, 1.3million, APC, 2.55million. North- West, PDP 2.15million, APC, 5.65million. South-East, PDP 1.65million, APC, 650,000. South-South, PDP, 2,.2million APC, 1.7million. South- West, PDP, 2million, APC, 2.9million. FCT, PDP, 150,000, APC, 200,000. In summary, the survey revealed that, “the APC candidate will carry all the states in North-West and North- East and will win marginally in North- Central,” saying, “the margin of victory for Gen. Buhari is a staggering 4.4million votes and it is impossible for President Jonathan to close such a margin.” What would boost Buhari’s victory in the North-East and North-West, the poll explained, would largely be due to expected increase in the voters’ turnout, “whilst the turnout in the South-East and South-South is likely to decrease. The simple explanation, according to the group, “is that the North-East, North-West and South-West zones feel that their sons, Buhari and Osinbanjo, are on the APC ticket and considering the number of votes accruing to the three zones, Jonathan will find it absolutely impossible to fill the gap.” While concluding, the group said that, “because of the postponement that occurred five weeks ago, a repeat this time will not go down well with Nigerians who very likely will accuse the administration of having its hand in disrupting the process, and because of the tight timelines to avoid a possible constitutional crisis a shift in the elections this time may become impossible to contemplate.” Source: The SunNewpaper Cover Story! http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=109818
GEJ you have our vote The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the main report of the 2014 National Conference at a meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. The PUNCH had reported exclusively on Monday that the council would receive and debate a report of a committee set up by Jonathan to draw up the implementation strategy for the conference chaired by Justice Idris Kutigi (retd). The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, and the Minster of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Edem Duke, briefed State House correspondents of the meeting’s outcome. Anyim described the council’s approval as the first leg of concrete steps aimed at implementing the conference report. He recalled that apart from the report, the national conference recommended to the government how to implement the recommendations and resolutions. The SGF explained that what FEC did at the Wednesday meeting was to approve that those modalities be adopted in implementing the report. Anyim said that recommendations and resolutions that require constitution amendment and enactment of new laws would be forwarded to the National Assembly for promulgation into law. He said the Attorney-General of the Federation, Muhammed Adoke (SAN), had been asked to compile, vet and make such recommendations available to the President for onward transmission to the National Assembly for enactment into law. He added that agencies’ policy matters in the report shall be referred to the affected agencies and the tier of government concerned, whether federal, states or local governments, for action. The SGF said, “On other matters that require legal issues, for instance where it concerns constitutional amendment, it is not really the responsibility of the National Assembly alone. “They have to work with the state assemblies in bringing effect to this. “So, today, we are taking steps towards implementing the resolutions of the national conference and we believe that the vision of Mr. President in setting up the conference and the wonderful work done by eminent Nigerians who attended the conference in producing the report, the resolutions and recommendations, would be given consideration. “We also believe our country will benefit immensely from the work of this conference.” Anyim said while the process leading to the implementation of the report might not end during the life time of the present administration, a bold step forward had been taken with the approval. Jonathan had in September 2014 shortly after the end of the conference approved the composition of a Presidential Committee to study and draw up the implementation strategy. Adoke is chairman while Anyim is the Secretary. Other members of the committee are the Minister of Transport, Idris Umar; the Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda; the Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka; the Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory Administration, Olajumoke Akinjide, and the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen. The committee’s terms of reference include studying the Report of the 2014 National Conference; articulating the recommendations therein and developing appropriate strategies for its implementation and advising the Federal Government on all matters necessary for the effective implementation of the report. Confab recommendations The national conference recommended among others, that anybody aspiring to become the country’s President must be a degree holder. It approved the rotation of Presidency between the North and South and governorship among three senatorial districts of each state. The conference also recommended the creation of additional 18 states. The proposed states are Aba State to be created from Abia State; Adada State from Enugu State; Amana State from Adamawa State; Anioma State from the present Delta State; Appa State from Benue State and Edu State from Niger State. Also listed are Etiti from the present South-Eastern Nigeria; Ghari to be created from the present Kano State; Gurara out of Kaduna State; Kanji from Kebbi and Niger states; Katagum from Bauchi State and Ijebu from Ogun State. The conference also listed other expected states as New Oyo from Oyo State, Akana-Anim from Anambra and Imo states; Ogoja out of Cross River State; Oil Rivers out of Akwa Ibom State; Ose from Ondo State and Savanna from the present Borno State. The conference voted in favour of drastic reduction of number ministers to 18. Presently, there are about 42 ministers with one coming from each of the 36 states of the country and one each from the six geo-political zones of the country. The conference also resolved that the Minister of Finance should be be presenting annual budget to the National Assembly instead of the President as it is currently obtainable. Under the new arrangement, both the President and the ministers would be expected to appear before the National Assembly to render account of their stewardship on quarterly basis. http://www.punchng.com/news/fec-approves-national-confab-report/
GEJ - The first Nigerian president to organise a confab a and also set to implement their resolution http://www.channelstv.com/2015/03/18/fec-approves-full-implementation-of-confab-report/ oludashmi post=31767152]Renowned Political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, has endorsed the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and urged Igbos and Nigerians to vote for Buhari in order to restore hope to Nigeria. At the unveiling of a Pan-Igbo group, Igboekulie, in Lagos on Wednesday, Utomi said Buhari’s coming would be likened to what happened in the United States in 1981 when the Americans were fed up with the Jimmy Carter administration with inflation as high as 29%, but it took a 70 years old man, Ronald Reagan, to run for Presidency in the United States, to turn things around and revive the American spirit. He said Igbos have been branded as people who sell their votes to the highest bidder and therefore, urged them to vote wisely in order to shed this reputation. “I think Nigerians don’t have any alternative in the person of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. I refer to him from my writings as the Buhari ascendancy. That reminds me of what happened in the US when I lived there with President Ronald Reagan. “We had one wonderful, nice guy called Jimmy Carter as President. Things went so awfully wrong. Inflation was 29 per cent.” he explained. http://www.nigerianheadlines.com/prof-pat-utomi-endorses-buhari-for-presidency/
GEJ is the only president in history who has organised a national confab with the plan to implement the resolution Is GMB now a changed person, I don,t have hatred for him but I don't see him becoming president o. GEJ may look slow in action but you should know that GEJ is the only man in the history of the leadership of this country that has shown dip and sincere love for this country. People sabotage his government and it looks like he is not working. Close to 70% of APC members have oil wells which they know that by September GEJ will not sign their license so they are ganging up against him. They say they will bring change, go and look at their states you will see that people are seriously suffering of which with their oil wells there will be massive employment. Nigerians vote wisely for GEJ.
This is a desperate and urgent call from the throne of Grace that the brethren in Christ are about to make the greatest error of their lives by selling off their kingly heritage for a mess of pottage called "change". How come? The signs of the eventual Islamization of Nigeria are a wash in the 1999 constitution where Islam, Sharia . Good people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are too wise to fall for such illiterates GEJ till 2019 a Mission accomplished
General Muhammadu Buhari, a former dictator who was deposed in the 1980s after seizing power in a coup, is Jonathan's main contender. Buhari has pledged to lock up Nigerian politicians and civil servants who oppose or hinder his policies if he is elected. http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2015/03/nigeria_vs_islamic_extremism.html The Presidential Campaign Organization of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, General Muhammudu Buhari, has said that he will submit a petition against President Goodluck Jonathan to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague. The APCPCO said in a statement on Wednesday and signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, that the petition follows the massive terror unleashed on the residents of Lagos by armed pro-Jonathan groups under the dubious cover of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC). The ethnic militia groups had on Monday organised a road protest in the commercial city of Lagos demanding the sack of National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, over alleged mishandling of affairs of the commission. However, the APC Presidential Campaign spokesman said that the machete-wielding and gun-bearing armed pro-Jonathan groups marched round the major streets of Lagos, harassing and intimidating motorists, chanting anti-Jega songs in a manner that gave them away as acting the carefully-prepared script for the truncation of the general elections. “There was such disruption to the tranquility of the city that warranted the citizens scampering for safety in all directions, a foretaste of the violence they plan to unleash on Election Day. Transformation sits in the foot prints of time. GEJ you have our support. As socio- political group, Forward Nigerian Initiative, has described President Goodluck Jonathan’s railway reform as dubious, insisting that the light rail project of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, is a much bigger achievement. The President of the group, Mr. Lai Omotola, said during an interview with journalists on Tuesday that Jonathan had only been able to refurbish a few coaches and tracks but did not buy modern trains. He also berated Jonathan for saying Nigerians were not taking trains before his administration, insisting that thousands of Lagosians used trains every day. Omotola said, “Of all the things that Jonathan has been doing, which area can we say marvels Nigerians? He has talked so much about rail but the transformation of the rail he is talking about is the rehabilitation of the tracks that have been in existence since the time of our colonial masters. “After rehabilitating the tracks, he put locomotive trains on it; that is not transformation. But if the rail was turned into high-speed rail, then that would be transformation. “If you compare Fashola’s railway transformation with that of Jonathan in the face of the cost and its impact, what Fashola is investing in that blue line is far more impressive than what Jonathan claims to be doing across the country. “By the time Fashola completes the blue line, you will see elevated tracks. The tracks will run across the Marina lagoon. That is real transformation. It means you can be in your office in a high-rise building in Marina and see train operating over the water. That is what we call transformation, not locomotives on rehabilitated tracks.” Omotola said the people of Lagos should vote for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, noting that he was more qualified than his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, Mr. Jimi Agbaje. He said that as a civil servant, Ambode performed well and could present his achievements for all to see. He said, “Whenever a man wants to apply for a job, two things are important. They are qualification and experience. Experience is even more important because it cannot be bought. “The only time an employer will not demand experience from you is when you are applying for the position of a trainee. So, how can we vote for Agbaje who has never held any political position before?”
[Letter to Buhari from the grave of the innocents – By Bashir Yusufu March 14, 2015 Dear General Buhari; I would’ve addressed this letter privately to you, but in the expectation that you may not receive it, I decided to make it an Open Letter, in the hope that you would stumble on it, read it and hopefully feel some of the pains and anguish that have been my lot. Having said that, permit me therefore to proceed with the rest of this missive from the grave of innocents departed. Last night, while I was at my modest home in Katsina, relaxing and probably half-awake, I heard the voice of my cousin who was killed in the North in April 2011 during the post-election violence instigated by your loss of the presidential election. With bloodshot sad eyes, my cousin, looking apparition-like, was wailing “Gen Buhari, why why”. My cousin’s name is (or was) Mallam Yusuf Danfulani, a bright young lad originally from Katsina State, who was slaughtered in cold blood and set on fire by youths chanting “Sai Buhari”, like they are again now chanting in 2015. Gen Buhari, in case you have forgotten, Yusuf was slaughtered in your name even though he never did any wrong to you, and even voted for you against Dr Jonathan. He lost his life just because the murderers you encouraged by your many hate speeches believed Yusuf to be from middle belt or southern Nigeria, most probably because of his bulky looks and brave, patriotic attempts to prevent the killing of an innocent Youth Corper, Ukeoma Ikechukwu. Even though he cried out in Hausa and Fulfulde, he was still not believed by those you (Buhari) managed to brainwash to see all non-Fulani Nigerians as conspiring to vote against you. In this very case, Yusuf voted for you but his ‘Sai Buhari’ killers never believed he did. Like you, Gen Buhari, the mob was baying for the blood of innocents. If not for Yusuf’s best friend who was with him and was himself nearly killed, we would not have recognized his charred body that was burnt beyond recognition. And thanks to the same friend for recounting to us the little he could make out at the last moments of Yusuf’s life, the agony he passed through and the most important words he uttered before he gave up. It is the same words I heard him utter last night from the grave: ‘Gen Buhari, why why’. Yet, to this day, you (Buhari) have not cared to apologize or show any remorse, but you instead offered lame excuses for the bloodletting you had instigated, and still instigate. I now ask you this: Gen Buhari, must you always shade blood, like you started doing from 1983, to rule Nigeria? Do you recall how you killed Brigadier Bako in 1983 just so you could take power by force from Shehu Shagari? General Buhari, Ukeoma Ikechukwu himself was reported missing that same day Yusuf was murdered by your supporters, and finally confirmed dead the following day when his charred remains was discovered in a hooded area. Apparently, your supporters had dragged him out of the open and tortured him before finally snuffing life out of him. Like my cousin, Yusuf, Ukeoma was very young and an innocent. Unlike Dr. Jonathan, they were not contesting against you. Yet, when they were killed, part of Nigeria was killed with them; the same Nigeria that you are now angrily campaigning to rule. Yusuf and Ukeoma were not alone. Six other innocent Youth Corpers were also murdered in Bauchi, where you Buhari, polled 1,315,209 votes (almost 82 per cent), defeating Dr Jonathan who scored 258,404 votes and did not even hit the 25 per cent mark. The corps members were reportedly chased to a police station where they sought refuge. But the rioters, who were raving mad with bloodlust and chanting “Sai Buhari”, overran the station and murdered the young Nigerians in cold blood. So, Gen Buhari, as you can see from the Bauchi result and it’s aftermath, your supporters even shade blood when you win; still you have no qualms. Today, you are prancing around the nation, arrogant and angry as usual, behaving like you have already won the election; and thus setting up another bloodletting if you are not announced winner. The story of Obinna Okpokiri is as heart-wrenching as Yusuf’s. The 27-year-old was butchered and burnt to ashes, in the service of his fatherland. Okpokiri’s own circumstances were as gruesome as they could be. He had run to the Corpers’ Lodge as the rampaging ‘Sai Buhari’ rioters targeted Youth Corper polling officers recruited by INEC for the election. As painful death loomed, the young Nigerians contemplated fleeing to the barracks. But they were not lucky enough. Your ‘Sai Buhari’ supporters caught up with them, slaughtered and set them on fire. Like Yusuf, these innocents are human beings and future leaders on the last laps of fulfilling their national duty before moving on to a bright future. But it was not to be because, in your name, Gen Buhari, they were slaughtered, sliced, soaked in petrol and scorched. Reduced to ashes in minutes and in the most callous fashion by those that are not better citizens or humans than them. General Buhari, while you are now busy inciting another violence, please bear in mind that in 2011, your supporters turned violent in whole 12 northern states as they burned the homes, vehicles, and properties of innocent Nigerians, some of whom are also Muslims and Northerners like you and my cousin Yusuf. Your ‘Sai Buhari’ supporters also targeted and killed Christians and members of southern Nigerian ethnic groups, who were seen as supporting the PDP, and they burnt churches across the north. One particular attack in Bauchi stood out as most heart-breaking. According to Human Rights Watch, on April 17 in Giade, a rural town in northern Bauchi, ‘Sai Buhari’ mobs attacked youth corps members in the town. The Corpers, who were mostly from Yoruba, ran to the local police station to seek refuge, but the mobs stormed the police station. The mob killed the police officer on duty and burned down the police station. They raped two of the female youth corps members and then hacked them to death with machetes, along with five male youth corps members. In total, rioters killed ten youth corps members in that town alone. A lecturer at the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State, described to Human Rights Watch how a mob of Muslims chanting “Change, Sai Buhari” attacked and killed several Christian students, a Christian lecturer and four Muslim students suspected of being PDP sympathizers on April 17: He said “Between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., they entered the school chanting slogans and shouting: “Where are the Christians and Muslims that supported the ruling party?” They had painted their faces black and were shouting that they needed “change”, the Congress for Progressive Change campaign slogan. The mob had all sorts of weapons – machetes, sticks, and clubs. They started breaking the glass on the buildings. The students ran away but the mob pursued them into the staff quarters and they had nowhere to go. The mob beat them to death. The lecturer they killed was Yoruba“. postponement of the general election earlier scheduled for February 14 and 28 was announced last February, the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, struggled to give reasons for its action. It cited security reasons resulting from the advice of the military that they could not guarantee security in certain parts of the country during the elections. Many other Nigerians insisted that INEC itself might not have been logistically prepared for the elections. There were clearly supporters and dissenters to the decision within the political class along party lines. From the events that followed in the past few weeks, it has become crystal clear that the postponement had nothing to do with the reasons offered by INEC. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party was not prepared for the elections and could not stand the defeat that was staring it in the face. Many of the party’s senior members had confirmed that they just wanted an opportunity to improve their electoral chances. Nigerians must give it to the PDP, it attempted to benefit from the postponement. Many activities were clearly connected to that agenda. The new military offensive against the Boko Haram insurgents, the President’s visit to soldiers and civilians in Bama and Biu, the aggressive media visibility including the campaign of calumny against notable opposition leaders, the nationwide outreach to religious leaders, the visit to traditional rulers in the South-West and the alleged push for the anti-corruption agency to investigate opposition leaders were all segments of a well-rehearsed agenda to make Nigerians see the PDP in a better light and hopefully win them over. From all the opinion polls that were conducted before February 14, the opposition All Progressives Congress was clearly on the lead and would have won the presidential election but for the postponement. However, many analysts argue that the party has not done much since after the postponement beyond the appearance of its presidential candidate at the Chatham House, London and a town hall meeting in Lagos. Although the Chatham House event sent a clear positive signal to the world, observers insist that the opposition party needed to do more especially against the background of calculated efforts to tarnish its image and erode its support base. Many leaders of the party have argued that they do not want to join issues with the PDP. While that may be true and understandable, the APC has not done much of constructive policy communication expected of a party that is waiting to form a government. While the intensity of the PDP led efforts must be acknowledged, one is not sure whether its objectives were achieved. Did the image of the ruling party get any better before Nigerians? Has this plethora of efforts potentially or actually contributed to any shift in the electoral fortunes of the PDP? It is the position of this writer that the reverse might be the case. The PDP has unwittingly painted President Goodluck Jonathan as a very desperate politician who is afraid of defeat and who is willing to either have his way or scuttle the entire electoral process. For instance, many Nigerians were very unhappy to see the picture of the President sitting helplessly with Obas pointing their walking sticks at him. Were they praying for him? Was it necessary or helpful to put out such a picture in the public domain? I reckon that someone like the spokesperson for President Jonathan’s campaign, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, is working hard to either impress his boss or improve his electoral chances. But many see his barrage of negative comments and demeaning outbursts as very unnecessary and in fact hurtful to the President’s image. I also feel the same way for the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan, and the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose. For the First Lady, I suspect that she means well for her husband. She is visibly worried about the possible outcome of the election and labouring to make sure that things go in their favour. However, her public eruptions are worsening the President’s chances instead. Media reports now indicate that the International Criminal Court has started investigating her and this may lead to disastrous consequences in the likely event of defeat on March 28. For Fayose, his wild but largely unsubstantiated accusations against Buhari wasted opportunities that he would have used to positively market President Jonathan in the South-West. The comments of the Enugu Catholic Priest, Rev. Ejike Mbaka, also dealt a heavy blow to the President’s support base.
GEJ till 2019. Buhari is unintelligent A group has mocked President Goodluck Jonathan in newspaper political adverts with famous answers he gave to journalists in recent past. The advertisement was made in one of the national dailies last week. The group modified “Goodluck Ebele Jonathan” to “Goodluck Dunno Jonathan” based on his famous phrase “I don’t know”. They added questions like, ‘do you know where the Chibok girls are?’, ‘is it true that $20Billion is missing from NNPC?’, and more….with supposed replies tantamount to making a mockery of the president. The ridiculous newspaper advert ended with “It is time for real leadership. It is time for change! Vote APC. Vote Buhari/Osinbajo”. Is this what politics about? It would be recalled that not long ago, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Senator Ayo Arise clashed with Governor Ayo Fayose over his constant attacks on the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. READ MORE: http://www.naij.com/404593-photo-have-you-seen-this-advert-mocking-jonathan.html
The Goodluck Jonathan Agriculture revolution on february 01, 2015 at 10:19 am in agric Facebook Share Twitter Share By OLAYINKA AJAYI The Goodluck Jonathan administration has in the four years been in power. Though there have been flaws, successes and giant leaps, it is sad that some Nigerians tend to focus more on the setbacks. Interestingly, the Jonathan administration has been silently transforming Nigeria from its dark ages of underdevelopment to a 21st century economic and political force So many sectors of the nation’s economy have been touched by the administration, but the agricultural sector has been boosted and the perception that it is not just as a means of livelihood, but more as a business. Over the years, the distribution of fertilizers has remained a racketeering business for some group of persons. Overtime, farmers have had to lament the poor handling and management of the fertilizer distribution because past governments failed to nip the racketeering in the bud. To corroborate this, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, lamented that between 1980 and 2010, the Federal and State governments spent over N873 billion on fertilizer subsidies. He disclosed that out of this amount, Nigeria lost N776 billion to corruption and fertilizer racketeering within this period. As a way of curbing the racketeering syndicate in the distribution of fertilizers, the minister said the introduction of Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing Systems for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has de-risked lending to the agricultural sector. According to him, under the GES, 4.2 million farmers have received seeds and fertilizer in the 2013 farming season, adding that about 20 million people have been impacted through the GES initiative. Adesina said banks lent N3.5 billion to seed and fertilizer companies in 2012 under the GES for example, an amount that has increased to over N20 billion in 2013. With this remarkable feat, Nigeria has reduced its food imports by over 40 per cent as of 2013, moving the country closer to self sufficiency in agriculture. As a matter of fact, Nigeria is the world’s largest producer of cassava with an output of over 45 million metric tonnes in 2014 according to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The transformation from rustic farming to mechanized agriculture which requires empowering local farmers to adopt modern and cost-effective technologies is now vigorously pursued. The Ministry of Agriculture is working towards engendering improved quality and distribution of fertilizers; marketing reforms; innovative financing and developing commodity exchange; research and development; competitive exchange rates; and development of storage infrastructure. These new measures are aimed at liberating the country from food insufficiency and making it a major food exporter in the nearest future. Interestingly, the National Economic Management Team has unveiled an Agriculture Transformation Agenda (ATA) which has the capacity to generate over 3.5 million jobs. “To ensure food security and create wealth, 11 commodity value chains: rice, sorghum, cocoa, maize, soybean, oil palm, cotton, cassava, livestock, fisheries and horticulture, have been formulated as part of plans to achieve huge increase in production, starting from 2012,” he said. The government is also assisting companies to raise funds from banks to finance input purchase with about N30 billion earmarked for the programme in this year. In addition, government has agreed to pay 10 per cent achievement fees for companies meeting 100 per cent of supply of seeds and fertilizers to farmers. As part of fixing the challenges in the sector, the Nigeria Incentive Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL) is expected to leverage N450 billion from banks into agricultural value chains. Marketing Corporations are being established for selected agricultural value chains to coordinate the production, investments, grades and standards, market price stabilization, among others for selected value chains in Nigeria. These efforts are geared towards realizing the government’s target. To ensure that the target is met, the Agric Ministry has developed four key principles in executing the programmes. The first principle called ‘subsidiarity’ touches every part of the country’s agricultural value chain would simultaneously. The second approach, involves working within a framework of strategic partnerships with the private sector, civil society and particularly farmers. The third principle is to treat agricultural endeavour as an investment which must generate return like any other viable business, while the fourth focuses on using bottom-top approach to engender accountability and delivery of results in the entire programme. The Oba gave the assurance Thursday in Abuja through his son and a chief in the Benin Kingdom, Ada Erediuwa, who led a delegation of princes and chiefs of the Benin Kingdom on a visit to a former Minister of Information and elder statesman, Edwin Clark. Prince Erediuwa recalled that his father had met with Mr. Jonathan three times adding that while the first meeting was a private affair between the two leaders, the second meeting was a public function when the president went to Edo to commission the refurbished Benin-Lagos expressway. He said the third meeting sometime in September 2014 was the most significant because the Oba presented a “red ododo” to the president. The prince explained that the Oba deliberately gave the president the material to pass a message. He said it was the highest Benin traditional attire and the Oba wore it when he had to go to court. “He wore it and trekked to the court to show he meant business,” Mr. Erediuwa said. “In Benin Kingdom, the ododo represents success and it is a sign of victory. Whoever wears it to the battle field must return home.” Reports in recent past had suggested that the Benin royal house was in conflict with the presidency. However, Mr. Erediuwa said the Oba had made it clear by his actions and words that he supported the president. He, however, stated a “need for the Benin Kingdom to hold a private meeting with the president after the general elections to address all areas of concern.” Mr. Clark, in his remarks said the president considered Benin home. He also pledged to ensure that a meeting between the royal house and the presidency was held as soon as the elections were over. Mr. Clark also said the little misunderstanding between the president and the Benin Kingdom may have to do with the appointment of the former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, ostensibly to replace her husband Christopher Ogiemwonyi, who was from Edo State. He explained that Ms. Oduah was appointed on her own merit having served as the treasurer in the president’s campaign prior to 2011. He said she was appointed to represent Anambra State while an Edo man was also appointed on the constitutional slot of the state and was even posted to the same ministry Mr. Ogienwonyi served in. “There was nothing the president did to spite Edo State,” Mr. Clark said. “What happened was a normal thing in government.” Mr. Clark also said to avoid a repeat of such an incident, the Benin royal house would be consulted “on the appointment of a minister from the state”. He also assured that after the election, which he said the president would win, “Bini will be accorded a pride of place in the government of President Goodluck Jonathan”. On the endorsement of Mr. Jonathan, the elder statesman said he believed “the prince has spoken the mind of the Oba”. This will happen despite a projected marked slowdown in Chinese growth after 2020, according to the latest in PwC’s series of reports on ‘The World in 2050’. The report also finds, however, that the UK is doing well compared to its G7 peer group in terms of growth, which is projected to average around 2.4% per annum over the period to 2050. This is similar to the US and above growth rates in the major Eurozone economies, which are only projected to average around 1.5-2% per annum for the same period. John Hawksworth, PwC’s chief economist, said: “Emerging economies like Indonesia, Brazil and Mexico have the potential to be larger than the UK and France by 2030. Indonesia could rise as high as 4th place in the world rankings by 2050 if it can sustain growth-friendly policies. “But despite expecting the UK to drop out of the top 10 largest economies by 2050, the projected average UK growth rate to 2050 is stronger than other large Western European economies such as Germany, Italy and Spain that face even bigger challenges than the UK from ageing populations and slowing productivity growth.” The world economy is projected to grow at an average of around 3% per annum from 2014-50 – doubling in size by 2037 and nearly tripling by 2050. But there is likely to be a slowdown in global growth after 2020, as the rate of expansion in China and some other major emerging economies moderates to a more sustainable long-term rate, and as working age population growth slows in many large economies. Table 1: Projected global GDP rankings in real PPP terms (at constant 2014 dollars) Source: IMF World Economic Outlook database (Oct 2014) for 2014 estimates, PwC projections for 2030 and 2050 Beyond the largest economies, Nigeria, Vietnam and the Philippines are notable risers in the global GDP rankings in the long term, reflecting relatively high projected average growth rates of around 4.5-5.5% pa over the period to 2050. Malaysia is also projected to grow at around 4% pa on average in the same period, which is higher than China’s projected average growth rate of around 3.5%. Japanese growth is projected to be the slowest of all countries covered in total terms, driven in part by a steadily declining population; as a result it’s projected to fall from 4th to 7th place in the global GDP rankings over the period to 2050. PwC also estimates what its projections would mean for shares of global GDP at PPPs. China’s share reaches 20% by 2030 but then levels off. The US’s share declines gradually from 16.3% now to only just over 13% by 2050, while India’s almost doubles from around 7% now to be more or less neck and neck with the US by the middle of the century in PPP terms (allowing for the uncertainty surrounding any such estimates looking that far ahead). The EU’s overall share of world GDP is projected to decline from around 17% now to less than 12% by 2050. The UK’s share is projected to fall from 2.3% in 2014 to around 1.8% in 2050 as its growth rates, although healthy by G7 standards, cannot match those of the emerging markets. John Hawksworth, PwC’s chief economist, said: “Europe needs to up its game if it’s not to be left behind by this historic shift of global economic power, which is moving us back to the kind of Asian-led world economy last seen before the Industrial Revolution. “The US may hold up better, provided it can remain at the global technological frontier, and the UK could also perform well by G7 standards if it remains open to trade, investment, people and ideas.” ENDS Gill Carson PwC | Media Relations Manager Office: 020 7212 1391 | Mobile: 07837 285466 Email: gill.carson@uk.pwc.com PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP twitter: @gill_carson http://www.pwc.com/ Notes: PPPs vs MERs: there is no single correct way to measure the relative size of economies at different stages of development. Depending on the purpose of the exercise, GDP at either market exchange rates (MERs) or purchasing power parity rates (PPPs) may be the most appropriate measure. In general, GDP at PPPs is a better indicator of average living standards or volumes of outputs or inputs because this correct for relative price differences, while GDP at MERs is a better measure of the relative total size of markets for businesses at a given point in time. However, historical evidence shows that MERs will generally, in the long run, tend to move up towards PPPs for emerging economies as their average income levels gradually narrow the gap with the current advanced economies. An econometric equation within the PwC long-term growth model that reflects this historical relationship forms the basis for the projections of GDP at MERs in the report. This also makes the common simplifying assumption that PPP exchange rates remain constant in real terms over time. Projections of MERs are subject to particularly high margins of uncertainty, however, which is why both the report and this media release focus primarily on projections of GDP at PPPs. The World in 2050 Will the shift in global economic power continue? presents long-term projections of potential GDP growth up to 2050 for 32 of the largest economies in the world, covering 84% of total global GDP. FROM the streets and the court rooms, the battle against the Card Reader is set to move into another realm – technology. The independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) insists the Card Reader wanted to make the March 28 and April 11 elections credible as it will, among others, fasten and smoothen accreditation. But the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejects the machine, saying little is known about its workings. Amid the arguments, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which supports the use of the Card Reader, is accusing the President Goodluck Jonathan administration and the PDP of planning to jam the machine on voting day. For the APC, it has become a matter of ‘if we can’t have it, then let’s destroy it’. In the last couple of weeks, this opposition party and its leaders have engaged in dishing out dangerous false alarms in a bid to discredit the electoral process, heighten tension, create fear in the minds of the people and push the polity to the brinks. General Muhammadu Buhari. “Also, on the same March 15, the APC, in a yet another statement, falsely claimed that the Federal Government paid N9 billion to ethnic militias to foment trouble, before, during and after the general elections. This was immediately followed by a release on Monday, March 16, in which the opposition, in their unrelenting effort to further discredit the process, alleged that the Federal Government has hired an Israeli expert, Gyora Berger, to sabotage card readers on election day. “In the same vein, on March 4, 2015, the APC released a false alarm, claiming that there were plots by the Federal Government to frame its leaders and … sensitive INEC officials and manipulate the electoral process. This is in addition to another statement on March 9 in which it alleged plots to harass its financiers and cripple its operations ahead of elections. “We are aware that the APC has lined up many of such false allegations and nuisance alarms, which would be methodologically released to the public to swell the tension as the elections draw nearer.” The PDP charged its members to remain focused on the campaigns and not to allow themselves to be distracted, saying the party enjoys the support and confidence of majority of Nigerians. The party said it was committed to issue driven campaigns, adding that it would leverage on the “enviable records” of achievements of the standard bearer, President Goodluck Jonathan, “for which Nigerians are determined to give him a deserving second chance”. APC be pretending as if they are saints yet they act like green snake in a green grass. propaganda. |
