Travel / Top 7 Places To Travel To From Nigeria After The Coronavirus Lockdown by Foxsantan(f): 5:24pm On Sep 08, 2020
We’ve all had some if not all of our plans disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. But on the bright side, the world is opening up again and sooner rather than later we’ll all be able to enjoy the things we loved.

“When and where can I travel to?” this question must have crossed your mind once or twice during the lockdown period. The good news is soon! The Nigerian government is set to reopen its major airports on the 21st of June and this is great news for people planning a trip.

For those who haven’t made any plans yet, we’ve compiled a list of 7 top places you can travel to from Nigeria after the COVID-19 lockdown declines.

Cheap flights from Lagos, Nigeria to Dubai, United Arab Emirates 2.jpg
1. Dubai, UAE
Dubai comes first on our list because of its superb scenery, nearness to home, and ease of access (visa on arrival). Places such as the Burj khalifa and the newly installed Louvre museum are some of the must-see places when you visit Dubai.

As for COVID-19 cases in Dubai, it has steadily been declining and over 50% of the workforce is returning to work. There is a drive-in test center where you can get tested in a short amount of time if you exhibit symptoms, making things easy and safe.

2. London, UK
As of June 8th, 2020, the UK government relaxed travel bans into the country provided you agree to the mandatory 14 days isolation after you arrive— a small price to pay. Some of the frequent tourist attractions in London include Big Ben and the Tower of London, so make sure to add them to your list when touring the city.

As time passes, more and more tourist attractions will be opened up gradually to the public so watch out for that. Looking for where to make inquiries for your next flight,

3. Paris, France
Paris is one of the world's most-visited capitals. With famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre museum, and the Arc of Triumph, you can tour Paris all day without having a dull moment.

In France, lower corona cases have led to the beginning of the second stage of re-opening— opening up bars and parks and allowing travel within the country. What does this mean for us? Travel bans to France have been lifted and you can visit France anytime provided you comply with the isolation guidelines.

4. The Bahamas
The Bahamas is opening up its lands and beautiful beaches to tourists on July 1st, 2020. This is great for those of us that have been planning to show off our summer bodies on the beach. Visit Harbour Island and enjoy nature at its finest. As of date, the Bahamas has less than 30 active coronavirus cases so your chances of being infected are incredibly slim.

5. Dubrovnik, Croatia
Croatia opened its borders to tourists at the beginning of June and right now has up to 33,000 tourists within its borders all checked and tested. The tourist sites are also open so you can visit Dubrovnik, take ferries to the various Croatian islands, stroll around the Zagreb zoo, and many more. As for their corona stats, they have just 11 active cases as of date. Was that you rushing to pack your bags ready to fly to Croatia?

6. Santorini, Greece
Greece has been able to handle the coronavirus well, recording a great recovery rate for infected patients. As the curve went down, the lockdown has been eased and the travel ban from all countries is being lifted on June 15th.

This is great news for tourists, as you now have access to all of Greece’s beautiful cities, even the famous Santorini which everyone loves. You can go out and enjoy the fresh air instead of being trapped inside the same four walls for days on end.

7. Lisbon, Portugal
Portugal opened up its borders to visitors at the beginning of June. Unlike most countries, you aren’t required to quarantine provided you pass the health checks at the airport and ports of entry. This gives you more time to go out and have fun in places like the beautiful beaches of the Algarve while sipping great wine from Porto.

Portugal has constantly recorded lower active corona cases per capita since their peak in April. These low numbers have led to the lockdown being lifted. However, safety measures are still being followed all over the country and gatherings over 20 people are still prohibited.

Travel / How To Plan A Surprise Honeymoon Vacation After The Pandemic by Foxsantan(f): 2:58pm On Aug 15, 2020
There are times when you wish you could get away from it all by moving to your own private island. Well, some cruise passengers actually can – at least for a day. Each of the following cruise lines below offer passengers a day of fun in the sun on their very own private island. For many cruisers, this stop is the highlight of the trip. After all, what could be better than sitting on a white-sand beach, drinking a piña colada and soaking in the rays without crowds?

“It’s a wonderful destination, we will come back next year for sure!”

All of these islands have pristine shores, swaying palm trees, aquamarine waters and lots of ocean-side adventure. There usually are fees for shore excursions and equipment rental. Every destination offers something a little different for cruise passengers.

View of buildings on the coast of tropical island San Andres y Providencia
Even at first glance, CocoCay looks like the quintessential Caribbean hideaway. There are wide stretches of beach in quiet coves, island huts in bright Caribbean pinks and blues, and a colorful straw market offering Bahamian crafts and goods.

Many of the island buildings look brand new — and they are. In 2002, the company invested more than US$ 21 million to turn this 140-acre (0.5 km²) slip of land into a destination their passengers would never forget. Nature trails wind through the isle, which is home to wild chickens, peacocks and occasional iguanas. Those seeking solitude will enjoy the hammocks that are hung under coconut trees in quiet locations.

Sea lovers have plenty of activities to choose from. Hop on a jet ski (US $ 95 for 50 minutes) and speed across waters so clear that you can see orange starfish 20 feet below, or don a snorkel mask and explore life under the sea up close.

A staff of 45 people lives on CocoCay, and it’s obvious they take pride in keeping the island’s natural beauty in top condition. Their pampering service makes the island experience so pleasurable that you won’t want to leave when dusk falls all too soon.

“Disney knows children, so it’s no wonder that they feel at home on Castaway Cay”

The cruise ship docks right at the island (other cruise ships use tender boats to ferry passengers back and forth), so youngsters can head right down the ship’s ramp and out to explore Castaway Cay. There is a beach just for families, and Scuttle’s Cove is a safe and fun club for children. Parents need some time on their own, so there is Serenity Bay, a secluded beach for adults. For a little pampering, have a relaxing massage in the open-air cabanas at the seaside spa.

Street in Key West
If you prefer the water, check out the Walking and Kayak Nature Adventure ($60). Participants walk with a guide through the island’s lush fauna and kayak through an ecologically sensitive mangrove environment. If paddling wears you out, just jump in for a refreshing swim in the crystal clear island waters.

Teens can get into their own adventure on The Wild Side (US$ 35), an excursion that includes snorkeling, biking and kayaking. Families who want to adventure together can try the Seahorse Catamaran Snorkel Adventure (US$ 49 adults, US$ 29 children). This easy 45-minute sail takes you out to calm waters and unspoiled coral reefs. Even younger children will enjoy floating in the turquoise Caribbean Sea with schools of colored fish.

Visitors to the tiny islet of Motu Mahana (Polynesian for “sunlit island”) are greeted with the sounds of Polynesia. Les Gauguines, an eight-woman song and dance troupe, perform beguiling love songs in their Polynesian tongue while guests enjoy a scrumptious feast under the shade of thatched huts. After lunch, guests can relax in the sea or wade for yards in the shallow waters while waiters wearing bathing suits offer tropical drinks to those in need of refreshment.

Guests can take a four-wheel drive tour into the hills to tour the vanilla plantations (US$ 65) or view French Polynesia’s rare jewel, the black pearl, at the Motu Pearl Farm (US$ 64). From there, head to the lagoon for some quality time with the region’s underwater fauna.

Food / 10 Amazing Home Made Foods Even Vegans Love by Foxsantan(f): 11:20am On Jun 30, 2020
10 Amazing Home Made Foods Even Vegans Love:

1. Long grain rice with quinoa

FOR VEGANS ONLY !!!! Long grain rice with quinoa, lots of herbs ,carrots, onion, garlic, asparagus, lime and parsley with on side avocado and few slices of radish (cos I like it). I know y’all carnivores but there’s nothing to slate here. This looks like the food my food eats. LOL

2. Tortilla Wraps

Tortilla Wraps in oven with Minced Pork, Salsa, Sour Cream and Cheddar.

Perhaps this is too hard to slate hard but thanks to me for the efforts Recipe follows:

550 g minced pork
2 big shallots
4 garlic cloves
=> Onions finely diced, caramelized on pan (net 150g)

2 eggs
150 ml sour cream
150 ml hot salsa sauce
200 ml bread crumbs (Crusto)
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 tsp smoked paprika
1.5 tsp sea salt
=>Eggs, sour cream etc. well mixed and rest for 30min

200 g cheddar shredded

Mix pork, onions, sour cream salsa etc. and cheddar together (net 1.5kg) and keep in refrigerator for 1 hour

Each tortilla (7pcs), 200g of pork mix, wrap in parchment paper and seal with another layer of aluminium foil

Oven +200C 60 minutes. Unwrap, brush with melted butter, +250C 3 minutes, ready

3. Seared scallops

Seared scallops appetizer with burnt lemon beurre blanc, charred sweet corn, micro broccoli, and smoked tomato & basil granita

Scallops look amazing with the charred corn.

4. Eggs, homemade guacamole, feta, wrapped in baby spinach

Deconstructed parcels. Eggs, homemade guacamole, feta, wrapped in baby spinach. Surely this is a thing.

But how am I gonna eat these many eggs in one sitting? come join!

5. Perfect steak chips and beans!

Perfect stake chips and beans! With bonus tomato!
I have produced a Fantastic Stake here, though some one said “steak and beans served together is rare”, I agree!

6. Bacon Grill

Bacon Grill and Egg sandwich! It is bloody Bacon Grill! I can’t believe so many people haven’t heard of it!!

home made foods

Love the salty taste that bacon grill has especially when it’s not sliced too thick.

7. Spiced oatmeal with sunflower and pumpkin

Spiced oatmeal with sunflower and pumpkin seeds for a beautiful little crunch. This is the best oatmeal breakfast I’ve ever tried!

8. Sausage and mash

Sausage and mash (burnt I know) with lacking salad (I ran out ok!) Personally if someone else posted this I’d give them a 1 out of 10. LOL

You generally tend to boil in a pan and mash, you don’t need to whack out the blow torch.

I think I must have got side tracked playing ‘hide the sausage’ because I can’t see one after I was done cooking lol.

9. spaghetti with homemade sauce

Keeping it simple…spaghetti with homemade sauce and shaved parmesan.

Looks like tinned spaghetti? I thought so too!

10. Potato egg waffle cheese and chorizo muffin

potato egg waffle in home made foods

Potato egg waffle cheese and chorizo muffin. This looks fantabulously delicious!

Trick is cook waffles in a pan and crack the egg into the holes. You can’t slate this.

Bonus

Burger: I actually got this recipe from Natasha’s kitchen

My take on a Burger but instead of using a Brioche Bun I used a Portobello Mushroom with Red Onion, Rocket and Blue Cheese!! In the Burger I used Sea Salt, Black Pepper, Paprika, BBQ Seasoning, Garlic Powder and Crushed Chillies and an Egg Yolk to combine!!

You can also try out Sausage or sosig, this below was made by a blog reader.

Quality Sosig, local free range eggs, toasted baguette.. and a little blob of Peri-naise.

My2cents:

Judging by the plate, your mum made this for you… if she re-opens on July 4th I’ll be over. Looks fab. Not sure about the angling of the SOSIGS but I don’t think I’d worry about it too much. LOL!! Only kidding, this looks amazing.

You can share your plate too!

Health / Kolpophobia by Foxsantan(f): 2:36pm On Jun 03, 2020
Kolpophobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by the persistent irrational fear of genitals especially female genitals. Genitals or Instruments are the external sex or reproductive organs and in the females it is known as the vulva and generally called the Vagina. Kolpophobia is a Greek word derived from “Kolpo” meaning vagina and “Phobos” meaning fear. Like other Specific phobias, someone experiencing this phobia undergoes intense anxiety and stress triggered by the thought or sight of the female genitals and this can affect one's confidence and ability to interact and relate with females.

Kolpophobia is synonymous with Eurotophobia which is the fear or aversion of female Instruments. It is also related to Phallophobia which is the fear of an erect penis. Kolpophobia can affect both males and females and some persons develop this phobia because of the discharge or mucus associated with Instruments.
Phobias are more severe than the normal fear sensation one feels. A person suffering from a phobia knows that their response is not rational but is unable to do anything about it. When exposed to the appropriate stimulus or trigger, phobias work by stimulating the Amygdala in the brain which deals with fear and stress. This then triggers the release of the hormones responsible for the protective fight-or-flight response of the body hence the physical responses observed in a patient.

SYMPTOMS OF KOLPOPHOBIA:
The severity of symptoms varies from person to person depending on the degree of fear. It can range from simply annoying to disabling proper functioning. Symptoms can be
1. Panic attacks: This is the sudden feeling of intense fear that occurs at the sight or thought of genitals leading to several physical symptoms like Sweating, uncontrollable shaking, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, palpitations, hyperventilation. dry mouth, lightheadedness, numbness, abdominal cramps, hot flashes, choking, Nausea, ringing in the ears, disorientation, Sense of impending doom, danger or death, fear of losing control and the need to escape. Panic attacks can be debilitating especially when you constantly fear that they may occur.

2. Inhibitions and social isolation: Kolpophobia leads to the avoidance of any trigger or stimulus that can invoke thoughts or situations that can lead to exposure to Instruments especially female. The patient over time develops the feeling of self-consciousness which restrains them from interacting freely especially with women
3. Mood disorders: A person suffering from Kolpophpbia may exhibit signs of anxiety and depression. Prolonged periods of anxiety and sadness can occur as a result of self-consciousness and inability to form lasting relationships
4. Loss of sexual desire: Fear of the Instruments can lead to loss of sexual desire and other sex-related issues. Anaphrodisia or sexual anorexia is a disorder characterized by low sexual appetite and is one symptom of kolpophobia.
5. Inability to enter a romantic relationship. Kolpophobia can lead to a general dislike for women thus impeding the patient from going into romantic relationships. Although a topic of several debates, some persons associate the choice of Homosexuality with Eurotophobia.
These symptoms can further lead to substance abuse and contemplation of suicide when they are not properly dealt with.

CAUSES OF KOLPHOBIA:
The specific cause of Kolpohobia is still unknown as much reaearch has not been done on it. Some people develop phobias that are not associated with any underlying factors, however, phobias have generally been associated with one or a combination of the following factors:

1. Genetics: A person with a family history of anxiety disorders can be predisposed to developing anxiety disorders. Studies have shown that twins raised separately are likely to develop a similar phobia

2. Traumatic experiences: Rape or sexual abuse by a female perpetrator can leave an indelible mark on a survivor especially when this occurs at an early age. This can lead to several phobias, one of which may be koplophobia.

3. Changes in brain function: This can be occasioned by brain injury leading to a behavioral change. Changes occasioned by this organic disease can lead to the development of a phobia

TREATMENT OF KOLPOPHOBIA
1. Cognitive-behavioral therapy: This is a type of talking therapy that aims to change the way you think and act. It is a psychotherapeutic treatment that is based on the theory that thoughts, beliefs, actions, and moods are interconnected and as such, changing negative thoughts associated with a phobia can change one’s reaction to a trigger. Together with the therapist, a person undergoing this therapy, takes a holistic look at the problem and breaks it down into separate parts. Negative thoughts that are identified are challenged and then these thoughts are counteracted with realistic thoughts. Patients with Kolpophobia can also benefit from this therapy.

Other types of therapies include Dialectical Behavioural therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based therapy which makes you aware of your current feelings, and using various techniques like meditation and deep breathing helps you accept and manage your emotions.

2. Exposure therapy: This is a type of behavior therapy also known as shock therapy or imaginal flooding therapy has been proven to be the best therapy for phobias. It is a form of retraining for the brain to dissociate the fear from the trigger and change the response to it. It a form of conditioning that involves gradual repeated exposure of the patient to incremental doses of the trigger to reduce the intensity of anxiety response elicited. For a patient with Kolpophobia, continuous exposure to photos of females can help in conditioning

3. Hypnotherapy: It is a form of alternative medicine that utilizes guided hypnosis to reprogram the mind. Under hypnosis, a patient is relaxed, calm, and has a heightened state of awareness. This can be utilized to explore psychologically distressing issues like phobias as well as to create a positive change through suggestive therapy while the patient is in this trance. Hypnosis is done by a therapist using mental images and repetitions in a calm assertive voice. A patient with Kolpophobia can benefit from this therapy by getting the opportunity to explore the cause or trigger and then training on how to manage the associated anxiety

4. Medication: medication used in Kolpophobia are prescribed basically to manage the symptoms of the phobia like anxiety and depression. Examples include

A. Antidepressants: Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that regulates mood. When levels are too high or too low, they can cause anxiety or depression. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibit serotonin from being reabsorbed promoting its mood-stabilizing effect.
B. Benzodiazepines: Drugs in this class are not to be taken without a doctors prescription as some of them have addictive tendencies and can be abused
C. Beta-blockers: They prevent the palpitations, tremors, and sweating associated with panic attacks.

5. Social therapy: This is a therapy that promotes the interaction of a phobic person with other people especially females such that the person can change their orientation about females and over time become more comfortable around women.

Travel / To-do List Once You Land In Canada As An International Student by Foxsantan(f): 9:22am On May 30, 2020
As a new international student in Canada, there are super-important activities you must engage in order to be well settled in to the Canadian system.

Some students have been somewhat lucky to have friends or family in Canada who can help them through the settling in process. The No IELTS To Canada guide will help in easy search for accommodation

Other students have had to navigate through the settling in process themselves. This article summarizes vital things you must do during your first 30 days in Canada. Ensuring that these things are done will make your stay in Canada less stressful and fun

1. Search for accommodation and Know Your Address: Most international students upon arrival in Canada may stay in hotels or with family and friends until they can move into their student residence or they find an apartment.

I don’t advise international students to secure accommodation until they arrive in Canada because you might find something you don’t like when you see the apartment eventually or else you have someone on standby to check and confirm for you.

When you arrive, you could apply for on campus accommodation if single or off campus apartment if you are with your family. Once you have found your accommodation the next step is knowing your address.

Lots of organizations and businesses would require your mailing address from time to time. I intentionally put this for many people living in most African countries without proper house numbering.

2. Update Your Address On Your School System: Now that you have arrived in Canada and you have your new address, make sure that your school has this new updated address not the one they used to mail correspondence to you in your home country. This is to ensure that you do not miss out on mails and information sent to you.

3. Get Your Student Card: Visit your student card office to get your university/college student card done. This would serve as some form of ID for you in school and other places where they may be accepted. Your student ID can even also get you discounts with some businesses.

4. Get A New Phone or Activate Your Old Phone For Canadian Network: After getting your student card, your next task should be getting a phone number because you will need this number for upcoming applications such as bank, health card, social insurance number etc. For cellular phones, there are two options, post paid or pre-paid.

5. Attend Your Orientation: It is very important to attend orientation. There is so much to learn and orientation helps get you to speed with some of the things especially class locations and other university facilities and amenities.

Orientation is also very good because you get to meet other new students, makes friends and have new people to go on your new journey with. Orientations also provides you with tips on living and studying in Canada.

6. Open A Bank Account: It is important to visit the bank as soon as possible after your arrival to open an account. For most international students, it is always advisable to open a US bank account aside your Canadian bank account since US dollars are readily available in most countries than Canadian dollars. With the US accounts, people can easily transfer US dollars to you and you convert it to Canadian. Remember to watch for conversion rates.

7. Apply For Health Card/ Coverage: - Getting health card differs among provinces in Canada. In some province, students are covered by provincial health care plans and in other provinces students have to source for health coverage with insurance companies or through their universities.

It is important to ensure that you have health coverage as soon as you arrive in Canada to avoid unnecessarily bills should you become ill or require the services of a health professional (medical doctor, pharmacist, nurse, etc.). Find out what yours is and apply as soon as possible.

8. Apply For social Insurance Number (SIN): - international students can work for up to 20 hours while in school and up to 40 hours on holiday. In order for you to get paid in Canada, you will be required to provide your employer with your social insurance number. Documents required to apply for this includes your study permit, international passport. Your SIN also serves as a form of ID in the future.

9. Secure A Credit Card - building a Canadian credit history is very important as it will help businesses and banks determine how you handle/pay for your expenses. Getting a secured credit card is one of the easiest and safest ways of building your credit history. It lets you spend money on credit – it's like having a loan for the amount you spend using the card. It gives you access to credit you can spend to make purchases. The only limit depends on how confident your card provider is that you'll pay it back.

Let me stop here because by the time you are done with this to-do's listed above, even your accent will be sounding Canadian hehe
