Actually it is ideal to speak a language with d accent of d owners if u can achieve it. I mean think about how yr language sounds when a non indigene speaks it with his own native accent...imagine that thick Igbo accent and d Ekiti flavour in spoken English or when some Yorubas speak Hausa ....not nice on d ears!
My grouse is when u are forcing d accent....arrrrggghhh. If u can't do it well, then quit trying n stop making a fool of yourself
My humble submission
Don't try to normalize an abnormality, when the CNN ranked our accent the fifth sexiest, were they not ranking it with our spoken English?
Longing for a foreign accent to speak a language that is spoken locally in your country is pure inferiority complex, English has been with for more than a century and its our official language, no one is going to punish you for an accent but the long term psychological effect on the population won't be cute.
But speaking a foreign language with any accent is OK.

Couldn't have said it better. I appreciate the OP's concern tho but its a matter of choice. I don't see anything wrong with it..as long as the message is passed and understood.
Its a matter of choice on one side na, we all choose theirs while they cling to their own.
These little things have bad long term effects, things like our little girls playing with white dolls, our lack of patriotism and the accent issue.

Though I'm not sure the imperialists up north will unleash so much terror on their land for just the presidency or am I underestimating them?
There is everything wrong with these guys, since the jihad orchestrated by their blood thirsty primogenitor, some of these hausa-FULANIs have always had an Islamization agenda.
Some of the fulanis have a very dangerous mindset, theirs is a toxic mixture of extreme ethnic bigotry and religious fanaticism(I feel for other Nigerian muslims) .

What has GEJ achieved in almost his 6 years in power? corruption is high, no electricity, basic amenities are nothing to write home about, security is zero, pray tell what has he done? largest economy in Africa that has little or no effect on Nigerians just the same set of people holding the nation to ransome

Politics › Conspiracy Theories: A Defensive Mechanism Against Leaks? by fr3do(op): 2:53pm On Nov 01, 2014
Nothing unites the people of a country like a discussion filled with conspiracy theories about a perceived enemy nation! Conspiracy theories personally give me a rush, but I don't indulge too much for the sake of my sanity.
Conspiracy theories aren't all disadvantageous for the entity they are directed at, an entity with a pool of conspiracy theories trailing it won't be so worried about leaks and anonymous whistle blowers and the controversies they bring, because with no authority (unanonymous whistle blower) or evidence attached to such information it will be left in the pool and not acted upon.

The nasty ebola-chan prank made conspiracies (not necessarily true or false) about Ebola being a bioengineered virus less convincing and the conspirators look silly.

So is there a chance that agencies and other organizations sponsor conspiracy theories directed towards themselves?

What you do not want to accept is that societies evolve to embrace tolerance and change. In the end, and as we have seen to be the case elsewhere, most hetorosexual men will ultimately conclude that the choices and activities of consenting gay adults does not affect them and is therefore not their personal business. That is how things will develop going forward regardless of how passionately you feel Nigeria will resist and ostracise gays.
Nigeria is becoming less susceptible to changes with-out. Lesser foreign change is occurring, contemporary Nigerian thinking is rising back to indigenousness, more musicians are taking up native attires (2 tuales for blackmagic).
The hype makes it look like if there is a large community of gays fighting for homosexuality, but there isn't, how would homosexuality be more acceptable when there are no gays?
Any overzealous homo forming activist will probably have senses beaten into him.

Mob mentality and our contemporary drift towards africanness will stop homosexuality from gaining the upper hand; this is what I want to let you know about the Nigerian model.

Absolutely correct. Those not prepared to live and let live will have to find remote Islands to relocate to because the trend is always that homosexuality is resisted vehemently then tolerated tacitly and eventually accepted conservatively. Nigeria and much of Africa may be at the beginning stage but the latter stages will surely come same as the Sun rises daily. Would it surprise Nigerians to know that homosexuality is legal in Turkey? homophobic discrimination always reduces with time in even extremely homophobic nations and societies. Scaremongering will change nothing.

There is no phase Nigeria is going through now that others have not experienced before us with equal passion and vehement indignation. One thing is 100% sure. Society will evolve and grow in tolerance and not the other way round. This is why America has a black President today when it was not that long ago that blacks in the USA used to be slaves to be used and traded like livestock and commodities by Caucasians.
Thats as improbable as USA legalizing polygamy.
Nigerians are by the day becoming more philosophical, we are doing our own thinking ourselves.

The modus operandi of pro gay activists is to compare homosexuality to the black struggle.

Oh so you're saying there's no fighting? How thoughtless of you! Let me tell you something Mr man, have you ever heard of the Hydra monster in greek mythology?. A monster so fierce that it has many heads, if one head is severed another one grows and take the place of the one severed!.

That's how this is, kill Shekau and another person takes his place, 'classic Antonio Gramsci'.

And you omitted the fact that the FG lied to Nigerians: 'No cease fire agreement'.
And you in your abundant wisdom cannot decode that maybe a faction of the insurgents are the ones rejecting the ceasefire.

Not like if the ceasefire was a great idea in the first place.
BH needs to be squashed.

Nigeria cannot be more homophobic than the West were decades ago. But their societies evolved and moved on, so shall Nigeria in years to come.
Nigeria will only take that path if the future generations become cultural puppets letting the west make decisions for them.
As much as consent and choice is used in arguments in defense of homosexuality, it is illegal for three or more consenting persons to be married in some of these countries.
Our cultures here like strong family ties, respect for elders e.t.c are looked down upon over there.
But theirs are being shoved down our throats as rational thinking, tolerance and evolution.

Jungle justice is a serious problem in Nigerian societies.

There is absolutely no problem with our stand on homosexuality, this article stresses the need to stop JJ.
I wish Mr homo activist quick recovery and I pray he shifts his activism towards more pressing issues .e.g stopping jungle justice.

How is the highlighted so? Reading through some of the posts on Nairaland, I see naked hatred thrown between Igbos and Yorubas. So how would you classify those people, self haters or racists? If they are racists, how are they any better than the white racists in America and elsewhere in Europe? Or the Arabs and Chinese who also have no love lost for black people? How is it different from African Americans who disdain African immigrants? You see how life is not all about black and white?

At the day's end, it behooves on Africans to solve their own problems themselves. Our unending beggarly attitude is getting too shameful for some of us.
Tribalists, and you don't see them making generalizations to degrade the entire country.

The British is solely responsible for Nigeria's problems. Are they now regretting why they amalgamated the useless entity?
Nigeria is not a useless entity.
Colonialism, amalgamation is bad, but it has been done, we can only correct the inadequacies of our union while we do not loose our guard to these caucasians.

Their criticisms are everything but constructive, very embarrassing facts like our inability to refine oil to meet our needs thereby importing at a loss, or how corrupt African leaders stash their loots in European banks are never discussed on their stations. But if its 'Lagos is a slum' they will ejaaculate over the matter.

Are many posters here envious that the OP got American citizenshiship

Any body who is not in the corridors of power, not among the Dangotes and co in Nigeria will gladly accept same, so why the hipocrisy?

What the OP has said is that stark truth, sometimes I wonder the kind of people in this part of the world.

Nobody has given deep thoughts to what he wrote up there, especially the part of leadership and follerwership.

Africans, and Nigerians especially, must change their mentalities first, starting from the least person to the topmost person.

Op congrats on your citizenship. Of course, that doesnt strip u of your Nigerian citizenship, am happy for you.

Anybody who is labelling u a coward is a Hipocrite.
You are an Esau.
One of the greatest setbacks a country can have is unpatriotic citizens.
Lack of patriotism, not mentality of Nigerians is the country's problem.
