Niger Delta activist and former Minister for
environment, Annkio Briggs, has lambasted
Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, said that
the governor does not represent Igbo people.
Briggs made the ststement following threat by
Ebonyi State Governor to forfeit shops owned
by Igbo people who observed the sit-at-home
order gave by the indigenous People of Biafra
(IPOB).
IPOB ordered for a sit-at-home on Wednesday
to remember Biafra fallen Heroes who died for
the cause of Biafra Nation from 1967 to date.
Following IPOB’S order, governor Umahi
warned against any compliance by government
workers and traders in the State. He threatened
that any trader that closes his shop to observe
the order declared by IPOB, will forfeit his shop
forever.
But Annkio Briggs reacting to this wondered why
the governor should threaten to take away the
livlihood of his people for remembering his kins
men and women who died for him to live.
She said if the Governor can go that extend that
it would be better he kill the people who are not
ashame to remember their Heroes and hand
over their shops to herdsmen, jihadists.

A stay-at-home protest by Biafran separatists in Nigeria has crippled cities and towns in the south-east.
Streets are empty and markets, banks and schools are closed to mark the abortive attempt in 1967 to gain independence for the region.
It led to a bitter three-year civil war in which more than one million people were killed.
The authorities have warned the secessionists against street protests and security forces are on patrol.

South-eastern Nigeria is mainly inhabited by the ethnic Igbo community, who often complain of marginalisation - accusing successive governments of failing to develop their areas.

In the last few years, there have been a resurgence of support for a breakaway state of Biafra led by the banned group Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (Massob).
The BBC Igbo service says there has been a total shutdown in the Igbo heartland of Enugu and Anambra states.

Empty streets mark Biafra anniversary

Reports from south-eastern Nigeria say businesses have closed in several cities as separatists mark the 51st anniversary of the abortive declaration of the breakaway state of Biafra.
The streets are empty and shops and banks are closed in several cities - including Nnewi, Onitsha, Aba and Umuhia - after the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) group urged people to stay at home today.
The police and the military are, however, patrolling the streets.
Ipob's roots can be traced to the independence declaration of Biafra in 1967 that led to the Nigerian civil war in which more than one million people were killed.
The Igbo often complain of marginalisation and many of them have supported secession.

Nigerian authorities have labelled Ipob a terrorist organisation.
