2. Jalalabad–Kabul Road, Afghanistan.

Many roads have been dubbed “most dangerous,” but the 65-kilometer stretch of highway from Jalalabad to Kabul has more claim than most, snaking through Taliban territory. But it’s not the threatof insurgency that makes Highway so dangerous. It’s a combination of the narrow, winding lanes that climb up to 600 meters through the Kabul gorge and the reckless Afghan drivers trying to overtake the heavily-burdened haulage trucks.

1. North Yungas Road, Bolivia.

Also known as the “Road of Death” in the Yungas region of Bolivia. It is legendary for its extreme danger and the Inter-American Development Bank christened it as the “world’s most dangerous road”. One estimate is that 200 to 300 travellers are killed yearly along the road. The road includes cross markings on many of the spots where vehicles have fallen. It is a regular occurrence for buses and trucks to go tumbling to the valley below, especially when they try passing each other.

If you think your driving skills is unbeatable, well I dare you to try No. 8 grin

6. The Zoji Pass, India.

Zoji La is a high mountain pass in India, located on the Indian National Highway 1D between Srinagar and Leh. The pass provides a vital link between Ladakh and Kashmir. It runs at an elevation of approximately 3,528 metres, and is the second highest pass after Fotu La. It is often closed during winter. But it’s a lifeline that keeps the people of Ladakh in touch with the rest of the world.

5. Guoliang Tunnel Road, China.

The Guoliang Tunnel is carved along the side of and through a mountain in China. It may be hard to see in the photo, this road was hollowed out of the side of a mountain by several villagers from the town of Guoliang. Before the construction of this mountain pass the village was cut of from the rest of civilization by the surrounding cliffs. Although it doesn’t see much traffic, due to its construction it is inherently fairly dangerous.

4. Karakoram Highway, Pakistan.

Named the “Friendship Highway” by the governments who built it. The Karakoram Highway is the highest paved international road in the world. It connects China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountain range, through the Khunjerab Pass, at an elevation of 4,693 metres. It’s prone to landslides and floods and to make matters worse, the road is unpaved in Pakistan. But it is still a tourist attraction, passing through some spectacular gorges along the old Silk Road.

3. James Dalton Highway, Alaska.

The Dalton Highway is a 667 km road in Alaska. It begins at the Elliott Highway, north of Fairbanks, and ends at Deadhorse near the Arctic Ocean and the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. Although appearing serene at first glance, is filled with potholes, small flying rocks carried by fast winds, and worst of all it runs through the middle of nowhere.

Car Talk / 10 Most Dangerous Roads In The World. (feeble Hearts Are Advised To Stay Away) by Frankestein08(m): 4:00pm On Apr 10, 2015
Here is a list of 10 most dangerous roads in the world. These roads have high death rates and are extremely dangerous. The people who live around these areas depend on these roads for their daily transportation; so consider yourself lucky. About 1.3 million people die in traffic accidents every year. The World Health Organization has declared 2011-2021, “A decade of action for road safety.” But while many of those deaths could be prevented by better driving, there are some roads that test the skill, and courage, of any driver. Whether it’s hairpin bends, sheer mountain drops or roads through war zones, following are 10 most dangerous roads around the world.

10. Sichuan-Tibet Highway, China.

The Sichuan-Tibet Highway, a high-elevation road between Chengdu and Tibet where landslides and rock avalanches are common, is undoubtedly part of the problem. It is a road with a record of over 7,500 deaths for every 100,000 drivers has reason to be feared. Due to rock slides, avalanches, and poor weather drivers should certainly use caution.

9. The Stelvio Pass, Italy.

The Stelvio Pass located in Italy, at 9045 feet is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, slightly below the Col de l’Iseran 9088 feet. Some roads look a lot more dangerous than they really are. With more hairpins than Helena Bonham Carter, the Stelvio Pass looks like a child’s scribble over the hills. The road climbs almost two kilometers and, with just a low concrete barrier between you and the steep mountain drop, it’s best not to look down. A bit too much speed on one of the road’s 60 180-degree corners could spell disaster.

8. Los Caracoles Pass, Chile.

This road passes through mountain Andreas between Chile and Argentina.The road has many steep slopes and sharp turns without fences security. The road is snow-covered almost all the year. Snow together with the complex natural landscape requires extreme patience and driving skill to drive in emergency situations. However, this road is maintained in working condition, which significantly reduces the number of accidents on it. Trucks and even double-decker tourist buses travel daily on this road.

7. Skippers Canyon Road, NewZealand.
The Skippers Canyon Road, located in New Zealand, is unbelievably scary as it’s made from a very narrow cut in the middle of a sheer cliff face. This winding road actually requires a special permit to drive. If you do manage to get permission though, be ready for a slippery challenge and good luck if you run into someone coming from the other direction.

Car Talk / New Audi Q7 2015 Review. by Frankestein08(m): 7:41pm On Apr 09, 2015
In a world of car manufacturers, Audi included, that’s scrambling to build the next sub-division of the SUV market it’s refreshing to come across a car that does precisely what an SUV should. The Audi Q7 is big and useful, but refined and fun to drive at the same time. It’s not the last word in off-road ability, nor quite as dynamic as a BMW X5 - and the fussy styling won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it's a technical tour de force.

The new Audi Q7 made its official debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, where it managed to catch the public's eyes and our attention. Audi wants to prove the world that the second generation Q7 can roll its sleeves and do some proper work in off-road conditions, not just on comfy asphalt. That's how the SUV ended up in Namibian desert.

This isn’t simply a re-skinned and re-trimmed version of the original model that launched nine years ago – it’s a rethink from the ground up. It’s the first VW Group product to use a new modular MLB-evo architecture designed for larger models with longitudinally-mounted engines. Eventually it will underpin the new Bentley Bentayga, replacements for the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg and every new front-engined Audi from the A4 upwards.

The benefits of the MLB platform are stark: the new Q7 weighs up to 325kg less than its predecessor thanks largely to a new steel and aluminium body (-71kg), redesigned multi-link front and rear suspension (-67kg) and all-aluminium doors (-24kg). Around 41 per cent of the Q7’s body structure is aluminium – not as much as the all-aluminium Range Rover (which shed 500kg compared to its predecessor). According to a recent report, power for this road leviathan will come from a V8 TDI diesel engine. Nobody has invested heavily in such a mill for many years, and some manufacturers have even stopped making it. But Audi plans to reinvent the vee-eight diesel using the electric turbocharger technology they pioneered on the RS5 TDI Concept in 2014.

Instead of using exhaust gasses to spin the turbo and feed more air into the engine, the e-turbo uses electricity. This means faster response times and, according to Audi, substantial improvements in efficiency. Calling it a turbocharger isn't 100% correct because it's actually a compressor, but marketing I guess that's confusing marketing with engineering.

Audi UK has announced that when order books open in April, the all-new Q7 will cost from £50,340 OTR to £53,835 OTR. The base price gets you 7seats, the 272 hp diesel engine, an 8-speed automatic, MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch, Audi connect (3 month trial), Audi drive select, keyless go, parking system plus and powered tailgate. A built-in 4G Wifi connection is also available, but subject to a monthly subscription.

Key specs.

Price: £50,340 (SE), £53,835 (S line).
Engine: 3.0-litre six-cyl turbodiesel.
Transmission: Eight-speed auto, four-wheel drive.
Power/torque: 268bhp/600Nm.
0-62mph: 6.5 seconds.
Top speed: 145mph
Economy/CO2: 47.9mpg/153g/km

Ok, am sure most of y'all viewed the article on the weird rib cracking cars used in World War I as war vehicles. The amazing thing about this cars is that most of us drive their latest models now without knowing how it came about. Anyway, this is a list of top ten strange military vehicles of second World War (WWII 1939 to 1945).

1. Rhino Heavy Armoured Car.

Rhino, was an armoured car designed in Australia during the Second World War. Due to enemy action and design problems the project never got beyond a prototype stage. The vehicle was completed by a welded turret with 30 mm all-round protection similar in design to that of the Crusader tank. The armament consisted of a QF 2 pounder Mk IX gun and a coaxial .303-inch Vickersmachine gun.

2. Fox Armoured Car.

3. Davidson Automobile Battery Armored Car.

The Davidson Automobile Battery armored car was built by Royal Page Davidson and the cadets of the Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Highland Park, Illinois. Davidson designed this vehicle in 1901. He and his students at the Northwestern Military and Naval Academy built two of these partially armored military vehicles. They were armed with Colt .30 caliber machine guns. The vehicles were powered by a tubular steam boiler. They had difficulty in going up hills because of changes of the water level in the boiler. Davidson made these lightly armored military vehicles of one thousand pounds at the Academy campus in Highland Park, Illinois.

2. Motor War Car, 1899.

Motor War Car was the world’s first real armoured car. It was designed and built by British inventor F.R. Simms in 1899. The vehicle had Vickers armour 6 mm thick and was powered by a four-cylinder 3.3-litre 16 hp Cannstatt Daimler engine giving it a maximum speed of around 14.5 km/h.

1. Armored Quadricycle, 1898.

Quadricycle was the first armed petrol engine powered vehicle ever built. It was designed and built by British inventor F.R. Simms in 1898. He constructed the vehicle by mounting a Maxim machine gun on the front wheels bar ofa De Dion-Bouton quadricycle. He also put an iron shield in front of the car for the driver’s protection. The driver also operated the machine gun.

No. 1 is cracking my ribs tho but I also wonder if no. 3 is protecting itself or its occupants.

11. Garford-Putilov Armoured Car.

Garford-Putilov armoured cars were a type of armoured fighting vehicle produced in Russia during the First World War era. With a total weight of about 11 tons, and only a 30 hp engine, the vehicles had a top speed of approximately 10–11 mph (16–18 km/h). The design was also overloaded (top-heavy), and therefore had very limited off-road capability.

10. Ehrhardt E-V/4.

The E-V/4 Panzerkraftwagen Ehrhardt was one of the first examples of a type of high and flatsided armoured car design that the Germans used almost until the start of the Second World War for internal policing duties. The A5P served on the EasternFront until 1917.

Entertainment / Movie Review: Furious 7 (ride With Us Or Against Us). by Frankestein08(m): 12:11pm On Apr 05, 2015
Had you told us in 2003 that The Fast and Furious movies would gross over $2.3 billion worldwide, we'd have laughed in your face. But after 2 Fast 2 Furious nearly killed the series, Universal Pictures brought in director Justin Lin to helm an independent spin-off without stars Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. That slick, entertaining take,Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, did well enough for Universal to give Lin the wheel for three more installments, the last two of which grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and received critical acclaim. Lin stepped aside for Furious 7, handing the reins to James Wan. The long shadow of Lin's contribution to the series is still felt in the seventh installment, though, and Wan's work doesn't stack up to his predecessor's best efforts, 2011's Fast Five and 2013's Fast & Furious 6. That's not due to a lack of action. Furious 7 strings together the same type of over-the-top action sequences that made Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 box office smashes. Alongside the fist fights, gun fire and explosions, this is a movie that features not one, but two games of automotive chicken. Oh, and did we mention cars jumping between buildings and crashing into two different aircraft midflight? The action of Furious 7 follows the successful formula of the previous two films. Where it differs is in the storytelling. One reason the fifth and sixth films worked so well was because of the ensemble cast. Sure, the plots revolved around stars Diesel and Walker, but the movies were just as solid when they focused on ancillary characters. Furious 7 goes back to the formula of the first and fourth films in the series, where the secondary characters take seat in the way, way back. The only time we see Tyrese Gibson's Roman and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges' Tej is when they're supporting Walker and Diesel. Dwayne Johnson's DSS agent, Hobbs, merely bookends the film, and new additions, like Kurt Russel's secret agent and Nathalie Emmanuel's (Missandei from Game of Thrones) hacker just aren't very memorable. As for villains, we've been watching Jason Statham as a good guy for a bit too long – he doesn't sell himself as a bad guy. And his counterpart, played by Djimon Hounsou (we dubbed him "Villain Number 2" in our notes) is utterly forgettable. These criticisms will probably disqualify the film from winning an Oscar for Best Picture, but they don't overshadow Furious7's undeniable sense of fun. We won't give away too much of the plot but, this being a Fast and Furious movie, it's rather predictable. Statham's baddy, Deckard Shaw, kills Han at the end of the last film (which is also a scene continued from Tokyo Drift), then goes after Hobbs and the Toretto/O'Connor family for maiming his brother in Fast 6. A revenge plot ensues, moved along by a quest for an all-conquering technological MacGuffin. It's shallow, but Furious 7 is a damn good popcorn action flick; the kind that typifies the summer movie season. We fully expect it to leave viewers smiling – until the end.Furious 7 was always, always going to be overshadowed by the untimely death of Paul Walker. From the beginning, Wan and writer Chris Morgando did a good job of negotiating Walker's exit from the franchise. It's not heavy handed or manipulative. In fact, it felt largely natural. The final scene exists solely to pay tribute to the late actor, doing so in an extremely touching, bromantic way. We challenge you to get through it with a dry eye. We couldn't. The ultimate question with Furious 7 was never going to be about the quality of the individual film, but whether the series could go on without Justin Lin and Paul Walker. Based on what we've seen, we're cautiously optimistic. Wan's take is big on action, which plays well to the adrenaline-craving fans that will pay $10 for two and a half hours of escapism. We're less sure about how the series will continue without Walker, especially after seeing Furious 7's reliance on the series' two main characters.

Have you seen Furious 7? If you have, we'd love to hear from you. Head into Comments and let us know if you agree with our take on the film, as well as what you liked and didn't like in this latest installment. Car Talk / Car Culture: 21 Year Old Performs Stunts From A Moving Truck. by Frankestein08(m): 12:02pm On Apr 04, 2015
These are photos from stunts by a daredevil…Performing stunts from a Toyota Land Cruiser LC70. Abdullah Omar AlAli, who is 21 years old, got into the street gymnastics craze just a year ago in his home city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates and he has taken car stunts to a whole different level.

So much so, after parkour, ‘Car-kour’ is a new action-stunt-regime being attributed to him. Abdullah Omar Al Ali performed these stunts, published by ‘Al Bayan’ on a vehicle moving on the roads of Dubai. The young man first subjected himself last year to an intensive training program to learn how to perform the parkour - where one moves from one point to another as smoothly and quickly as possible.

The young man also has a black belt in Taekwondo and is studying technical engineering in Abu Dhabi. Amazingly, as these pictures show, he not only manages the stunts while the vehicle is moving, but when it was running on two wheels.

* Subaru (Subaru STi Performance Concept).
Subaru has pulled the wraps off the STi Performance Concept in New York. Based on the BRZ but with upgrades to produce nearly 450bhp, it's unlikely to go into production. But it acts as a showcase the capabilities of the STi brand and how the technology being shown can filter through the rest of Subaru's range in the near future.

* Toyota (Toyota RAV4 hybrid).
Toyota revealed last week it plans to introduce a hybrid version of the Toyota RAV4 for the first time at New York. This will debut alongside the rest of the facelifted range for 2016, and is likely to feature an adapted all-wheel drive powertrain from the Auris and Prius plug-in hybrid.

* Volkswagen (VW Beetle concepts).
VW has gone the extra mile by revealing not one but four concepts, although they're not strictly new cars. A sporty R-Line version of the Beetle will feature on their show stand alongside Denim, Pink and Wave editions which increase the scope for personalisation.

* Mazda MX-5 Club.
The Club Edition of the Mazda MX-5 is a stiffer and more focused version of the fourth-generation roadster. It gets new shocks and dampers as well as an engine strut brace to increase body rigidity. Bigger brakes and lighter wheel have alsobeen added but the 1.5 and 2.0-litre engine options remain.

* Mercedes (Mercedes GLE).
Mercedes' GLE Coupe was already unveiled at Geneva, but the standard version of the car has appeared in New York. It's a rival for the BMW X5 and the replacement for the outgoing M-Class SUV, and will come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time in the form of the GLE 500e.

* Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi Outlander facelift).
Mitsubishi's Outlander mid-size SUV range will be getting a mid-life facelift at New York. Previewed by the PHEV Concept S at the Paris show, it'll embrace plug-in hybrid technology and build on the success of the current PHEV with an updated powertrain.

* Alpina B6.
To mark the company’s half century, Alpina introduced its most powerful and fastest model at New York. The limited-run B6 sticks with its 4.4-litre V8 but sees power rise to 592bhp – 60bhp more than the standard model. The engine is capable of propelling it onto a top speed of 204mph. Alpine will produce 50 Coupe and 50 Saloon versions.

* Porsche (Porsche Boxster Spyder).

Lexus' new RX SUV will arrive in the UK at the end of next year - retaining the distinctive and angular styling cues from the smaller NX crossover, as well as the firm's usual hybrid powertrain. * Mazda (Mazda MX5 Club Edition).
Mazda's MX5 is as fresh as small roadsters come at the moment, with a racier new 'Club Edition' variant joining the range in New York. The 1.5 and 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engines remain unchanged, but it will get sporty styling additions and tweaks to the chassis.

* McLaren (McLaren 570S).
McLaren's new entry-level sports car range has been introduced with the all-new 570S. Car Talk / Toyota 2016 RAV4 Hybrid Sets To Debut At New York Auto Show. by Frankestein08(m): 10:33pm On Apr 02, 2015
Toyota is being extremely enigmatic with its tease for the newly announced RAV4 Hybrid. The Japanese automaker merely has a photo of the model's rear end with a visible hybrid badge onit. The only additional into tells us to look forward to the CUV's debut in just a few days at theNew York Auto Show on 2nd of April.

Few details have been given so far but we can see a sharper LED tail-lamp design. The rest of the back end appears to remain broadly similar to the current car, but we can expect design changes similar to that shown on the recent Auris and Avensis facelifts.

That will mean a more aggressive grille and bumper design, with angled headlamps and daytime running lights. Material upgrades and new tech will feature in the cabin, as well as updated engines including BMW-sourced turbodiesels and likely a turbocharged petrol unit.

It should also receive Toyota's latest range of Active safety tech. The 'Safety Sense' system will bring a collision avoidance system, active braking and cross-traffic alerts.

The automaker has made its plan clear to sell even more crossovers in the near future, and the RAV4 has already been a strong mover for Toyota. The company shifted 267,698 of them in 2014, a year-over-year jump of 22.7 percent. Through February 2015, it has sold 41,767 examples of the CUV, a 25.3-percent improvement over the same period last year.

Media previews at the 2015 New York Auto Show open next Wednesday. For full details stay connected.
