Nigeria: Amos Adamu, FIFA Committee Member in Bribe Allegations
I really do not know what position to take for now about this unprecedented disgraceful act as committed by Amos Adamu caught on camera accepting to collect $800,000 DIRECTLY and in return offering to tilt his vote in the contest to host the 2018 World Cup.

Do i condemn right away or wait for FIFA to investigate and take a decision? They say a ‘thief’ remains a suspect until proven guilty. Is the camera scene being shown on Skynews enough to pass judgment at this stage?

This to me, even if explained away by whatever strange method or reason, Amos Adamu should cease to represent Nigerian football. He is currently representing CAF on the FIFA board. He rose from being a sports director for about 10 years to become a member of CAF, subsequently FIFA. He is still enmeshed in fraud allegations as regards the hosting of the 8th All Africa Games, Abuja Dec 2000 – 2003 where he was Executive Director/CEO

Amos Adamu has been around Nigerian football for about 20 years and the state of our soccer further dictates that we can conclude expressly, he has failed. He just made some nasty utterances about ex-players last week which is still be debated on and now this. This incident has come at a difficult time for Nigerian football compounding the situation.
We were just relieved by the conditional lifting of FIFAsuspension and now this.

I tried to put myself in his shoes but just could not fathom it. Would i wait to be proven guilty or innocent? I don’t think so. I will do more than just resigning, i will rather go underground and have a change of name to reduce the shame. Another question is, do these people feel the shame? Do they care about how they are regarded and perceived, how they are remembered in history?

Fifa is investigating allegations two of its officials offered to sell their votes in the contest to host the 2018 World Cup ahead of December's ballot.

President Sepp Blatter admitted the scandal has had a "very negative impact" on the world governing body.

Reporters from The Sunday Times posed as lobbyists for a consortium of American companies who wanted to bring the tournament to the United States.

Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii allegedly asked for payments.

Adamu, who serves as a Fifa executive committee member, allegedly said he wanted $800,000 (£500,000) to build four artificial football pitches.

This would be completely against Fifa's rules.

The Sunday Times footage appears to show Adamu asking for money to be paid to him directly for endorsing a US bid.

In the video, he was asked whether the money for a "private project" would have an effect on the way he voted.

Adamu, who is president of the West African Football Union, replied: "Obviously, it will have an effect. Of course it will. Because certainly if you are to invest in that, that means you also want the vote."

Temarii, president of the Oceania Football Confederation, is also alleged to have asked for a payment, in his case to finance a sports academy.

Blatter has written to the 24 executive members promising a full investigation.

The letter says: "I am sorry to have to inform you of a very unpleasant situation, which has developed in relation to an article published today in The Sunday Times titled 'World Cup votes for sale'.

"The information in the article has created a very negative impact on Fifa and on the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 Fifa World Cups.

"Some current and former members of the executive committee are mentioned in the article."

He adds: "Fifa will, open an in-depth investigation, which we will start immediately together with the Fifa ethics committee and the Fifa secretary general.

"I will keep you duly informed of any further developments."

Fifa has the option of postponing the vote, which is set for 2 December.

The Oceania Football Confederation confirmed it was investigating the reports.

It issued a statement saying "OFC is aware of the story that appeared in The Sunday Times in England. As such, OFC is currently looking into the matter."

England, Russia and joint bids from Netherlands/Belgium and Spain/Portugal are vying to host the 2018 World Cup.

The United States - the last remaining non-European bidder - pulled out of the race on Friday. Australia withdrew its candidature in June. Both will refocus their efforts on 2022, alongside Japan, South Korea and Qatar.

Former sports minister Richard Caborn told the BBC he was pleased Fifa's ethics committee was looking into the corruption allegations as a matter of urgency.

He said: "It is operational. It is effective. It is transparent. And I'm pleased to see that Fifa has acted decisively on this. We shall await the outcome." shocked
Gaming / Fifa Bans Nigeria by frankoko(m): 5:02pm On Oct 04, 2010
The FIFA Emergency Committee decided today, 4 October 2010, to suspend the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with immediate effect on account of government interference.

This decision follows the latest events linked to the NFF, such as the court actions against elected members of the NFF Executive Committee preventing them from exercising their functions and duties, the stepping down of the acting NFF General Secretary on the instructions of the National Sports Commission, the decision of the Minister of Sports to have the Nigerian League start without relegation from the previous season, and the fact that the NFF Executive Committee cannot work properly due to this interference.

The suspension will be maintained until the court actions have ceased and the duly elected NFF Executive Committee is able to work without any interference.

During the period of suspension, the NFF will not be able to be represented in any regional, continental or international competitions, including at club level, and also not in friendly matches. In addition, neither the NFF nor any of its members or officials can benefit from any development programme, course, or training from FIFA or CAF while the federation remains suspended.

This West Brom are really good. They play an excellent passing game. Chris Brunt is a very good player. I was surprised no team picked him up when they got relegated in 2009. I think they have what it takes to survive in the premier league

Peter Odemwingie, Gonzalo Jara and Jerome Thomas put Albion 3-0 up before Samir Nasri gave the Gunners a glimmer of hope after scoring a late double.

West Brom, inspired by the obduracy of a defence brilliantly marshalled by Olsson, and Osaze in attack hung on for a memorable victory which will inevitably raise questions about Arsenal's title credentials

West Brom capped an unforgettable week by outclassing Arsenal to claim a first away win

Peter Odemwingie fired the visitors in front from Jerome Thomas's centre shortly after the break.

Chris Brunt fed Gonzalo Jara for the second, and ex-Arsenal man Thomas added a third after some dismal defending.

Arsenal fans sorry oh

Sports / Last Surviving Player From First World Cup Final Dies by frankoko(m): 10:34am On Aug 31, 2010
The last surviving player from the first World Cup final, Francisco Varallo, has died in Argentina at the age of 100 .

Varallo played in the final between Uruguay and Argentina in Uruguay capital Montevideo in 1930.

His team lost the match 4-2 to Uruguay.

Mr Varallo scored 194 goals for his club Boca Juniors, a team record that was only broken this year by the current striker, Martin Palermo.

His nickname was "Canoncito" (little canon) for his powerful shot.

In an interview with Fifa to mark his 100th birthday this year, Varallo said the loss to Uruguay in 1930 was his greatest disappointment.

"With all due respect for my teammates, we weren't gutsy enough," the former footballer said.

"How I cried that day. Even now when I look back it still makes me angry."

Varallo retired as a player due to injury at the age of 30 to work as a coach with Boca's lower division teams and with the club Gimnasia.

Octopus Paul picks Spain whereas Parakeet Mani chooses Netherlands

Paul, the Octopus has been in the news more than anyone. Everyone is talking about Psychic Oracle Octopus Paul Allen. Paul predictions have been one hundred percent correct and have a record now in predicting the matches in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2010.

German Psychic Octopus became a celebrity overnight with his predictions. He has a rival at hand now, Singapore’s Mani; the Parakeet. Like Octopus Paul, Mani too has been correct in his predictions for all the quarter-final ties and the Spain-Germany semi-final.

Psychic Oracle Octopus Paul Allen has his pick for the FIFA final – Spain whereas; the psychic parakeet has picked up Netherlands as 2010 winner.

Paul picked out a mussel from the tank with the Spanish flag, ignoring the tank that had the Dutch flag, shown live on a TV show all over Europe. As per the psychic Octopus, Spain will be FIFA World Cup 2010 champions and regarding the place 3 and 4, Paul Allen, the Octopus has predicted that Germany will beat Uruguay to take the 3rd place.

This is how Mani, the Parakeet works:

M Muniyappan, the owner of Mani, puts two cards in front of Mani. These cards are printed with the flags of two countries. Mani turns to the card of the country which he think is going to win.

It seems FIFA final is between German Paul and Singapore’s Mani. Lets wait and watch whose prediction gets it right.

Wahala dey, make we come see who correct, grin cheesy where do you place your money

Sports / Germans Demand Killing Of Octopus Paul After Wc Semi-final Defeat by frankoko(m): 7:44am On Jul 08, 2010
Oberhausen (Germany), July 8(ANI): After Germany's heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup semi-final, angry German fans are calling to kill Paul, the psychic octopus, who had predicted that Spain would win the do-or-die clash.

German fans had been praying that the two-year-old octopus, who was born in Britain and later moved to the German aquarium in Oberhausen, had made a mistake when he chose the Spaniards to triumph.

Some sections of the crowd were also singing anti-octopus songs.

According to a local newspaper, there have been "a host of comments on Facebook, Twitter , suggesting Paul should be fried, barbecued or turned into a seafood salad or paella".

"Others wanted to throw him into the shark tank," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted the paper, as having written on its website.

Major predictions, which came true in this World Cup, have been in the Germany-England Round of 16 clash and Germany-Argentina quarterfinal game. Paul had chosen Germany's flag on both the occasions.

If the eight-limbed oracle survives the threats, the fans would be thinking twice about dismissing his advice in future.

Change the names of girls that calls you on your phone book to their last names instead of using first name. Delete your messages and your call records before coming home. In this way she wouldn't know those that called or texted you. Again get a good phone that has numerous inbox. Then do automatic divert to an inbox u think she wouldn't open.

Sports / Nigeria Will Not Reverse Ban - Source by frankoko(m): 7:05pm On Jul 02, 2010
Nigeria will not reverse a decision to withdraw the national soccer team from international competition despite the threat of suspension from FIFA, a Nigerian presidency source said on Friday.

Soccer's world governing body had earlier issued an ultimatum warning that the Nigerian Football Federation would be barred from all FIFA-related activities if the government did not agree to change its decision by Monday evening.

"Mr President will not rescind the decision because it's the best decision for football development in Nigeria," a presidency source said.

"Mr President and his team had weighed the consequences of this decision and arrived at this decision as in the interest of the nation. We need to restructure and reorganise our football for effective and commendable results."

The ultimatum from FIFA, which does not tolerate government interference in football matters, came after Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan withdrew the Super Eagles from international competition for two years on Wednesday.

It followed the teams' poor World Cup performance which saw them knocked out in the first round after failing to win a game.

"FIFA will today send a letter to the Nigerian football federation indicating that the government of Nigeria has until Monday 6 p.m. (1600 GMT) to cancel its decision to withdraw Nigeria's participation in all FIFA and CAF organised football competitions," FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot told a news briefing on Friday.

After meeting the country's World Cup organising committee, Jonathan also said the accounts of the committee should be audited, and named an 11-member caretaker committee to sort out the administration and management of the game.

Maingot said FIFA would not recognise the management committee, but would send an executive member of the world body to attempt last minute mediation on Monday.

FOOTBALL IN JEOPARDY

If the Nigerian government fails to heed to FIFA's ultimatum, it risks getting cut-off from all FIFA activities, including junior and female competitions, and also FIFA funding to the football association.

"A suspension goes beyond the suspension of the national team, it also involves the freezing of the financial help and no referees can participate in international competition," Maingot said.

Nigeria were set to begin their bid to qualify for the 2012 African Nations Cup finals in September against Madagascar.

They also qualified for the upcoming women's world championships at under-20 and under-17 level and their top club side Heartland is to play in the African Champions League group phase later this month.

A ban would also cut access to its development courses and stop the annual payment of $250,000 each member associations receives, cash that is much needed by Nigerian football.

Larry Izamoje, a veteran sports broadcaster and member of the presidential taskforce charged with preparing Nigeria for the World Cup, said the Nigerian federation had not used money given to it by FIFA appropriately.

"FIFA's $1 million was used for things that did not benefit the team in terms of preparation," he said, adding the taskforce had handed the matter over to Nigeria's sports commission and he could not speak on behalf of the government.

BLATTER'S "HAMMER"

Izamoje also criticised FIFA president Sepp Blatter for his handling of the situation.

"Blatter comes into any country, goes straight to the head of state, seeks governmental powers to host his competitions, and when things go wrong and government wants to correct, he comes with his hammer," he said.

This latest episode is not the first time Nigerian political authorities have been at loggerheads with football governing bodies over political interference.

Nigeria were banned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 1996 when then President Sani Abacha withdrew the team from the African Nations Cup finals in South Africa because he had been criticised by Nelson Mandela over the judicial execution of political opponents.
