Politics › Peter Obi Congratulates Ogbonnaya Onu Over SGF Appointment by FreeGlobe(op): 9:56pm On Jun 03, 2015 |
The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has commended Dr. Ogbonna Onu and Mr. Femi Adeshina on their appointments as the Secretary to Government of the Federation and the Special Adviser to the President on media respectively.
He also commended the emergence of Mr. Eric Osagie as the Managing Director of the Sun Newspapers, Mr. Steve Osuji as the Deputy Managing Director of the Sun Newspapers as well as Mrs Funke Egbemode as the Managing Director of the Telegraph Newspaper.
Obi who expressed optimism that the new appointees will bring their rich experiences in their respective fields to bear in their new assignments, assured them of his support and prayers as they contribute to the progress of Nigeria.
Obi urged them to always bear in mind that the assignments are national and crucial calls that require patriotism and diligence for success.
Obi who is in Oxford undergoing Senior Leadership and Management Course, advised them to have the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians in all they do.
“Those called for national assignments should think about Nigeria and Nigerians first, while those elevated to higher management duties in their newspapers should take the opportunity to promote the best of journalism in sync with the best global practices”, Obi said.
In another development, Obi also commiserated with the victims of patrol tanker fire at Upper Iweka on Sunday.
He said it was saddening and agonizing to witness, or hear about, such incident that take people's lives unannounced.
While commending the Government of Anambra State for her response to the tragedy, he condoled the bereaved families, and prayed to God to grant them the strength and fortitude to withstand the shock occasioned by the tragedy. http://elombah.com/detail.php?world=33001 |

SilverSurfer: For those armchair critics who wants awka to turn into dubai overnight, you must understand that success begins with a step and that step has been made by peter obi. If not for anything, he wrestled anambra from the grip of political godfathers. We won't be here today talking about development if the likes of chris uba and emeka offor still held sway..... Incase the critics have forgotten, peter obi has gone for over a year now so quit mentioning his name here maka ugbo oganiru anambra steeti apuola. If you choose to remain in the past, goodluck then. You mentioned peter obi in support and at the same same time asked those that does not support him not to mention him since his he's left office for over a year now. so its only peter obi supporters that should bring his name to this thread? This is why I dont take you guys serious |

Cuche: Anambra has some long stretch of boundary with Ndoni part of Rivers State. Down Ogbaru LGA, as a matter of fact, Ndoni in Rivers State was part of Ogbaru Zone in the immediate pre-independence era and remained so for years Peter Odili wanted to connect the bridges and roads but was advised not to do so at the peak of his battles in Rivers State, they said he is Igbo and that altered his initial plans chinolization: Yes! Ndoni in Rivers state has a common boundary with Atani (Ogbaru) in Anambra state. They have similar culture and language. Peter Odili attended CKC Onitsha and he is from Ndoni and his ancestral origin was once traced to Ogbaru. I don't know if that is political or not. Ogbaru equally has as much crude oil deposit likewise Ndoni in Rivers. Really, I always thought it was only kogi, imo, delta and enugu that shares boundary with Anambra. That means ogbaru would have befitted from that turbine odili built then assuming it worked. interesting |

Cuche: No doubt about the network of roads, Whether tarred or not, the reason for that is the fact that down the memory lane we have been blessed with a vibrant town unions. One of the notable foundational activities of the town unions, predating indepence is collective marking out Lands to be used as roads, for schools, for churches, markets and interconnects from one town to another. That type of cooperation is lacking in some other zones But at the time greed and selfishness crept in, indigenous land owners at Awka, Nnewi felt it was a waste to make out the atleast 30 feet for roads, that was the origin of narrow roads. Now, apart from Government layouts and a few other private layouts, many artery roads in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi are irritatingly narrow. Annoyingly, the Government tarred the roads like that without any effort to maybe get some feet left or right (expansion ) of the roads, most of which can be gotten without damage beyond fences Obi is no better than Ngige. If not for anything Ngige is more quality oriented and very strict when it comes to standards. I remember when he came to supervise a particular road in 2004, RCC had a plan of a drainage. Ngige said No it must be dual drainage and over 10 years down it's paying off well said |

yang: I dislike all these talk about narrow roads. Till date Anambra has the best road network in Nigeria and that's due to efficient utilization of resources while avoiding white elephant double lane projects which always involves paying compensation to a community to acquire their land. Please also stop insulting Peter obi,he is the best governor we had and nobody is perfect. When peter started doing roads in omoba phase 1 and phase 2 olo street, umunya street I knew he was spreading development. Even internal roads in woliwo and awada. These are areas which suffered neglect for many years. When you start thinking ahead, you'll know why narrow roads is not ideal for cities. And why it is not avoidable unless Anambra is not ready to develop |
Politics › Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by FreeGlobe(f): 7:39am On Jun 03, 2015 |
ACM10: Left to me, I prefer narrow good roads that littered the length and breadth of Anambra to bad roads that littered the outskirts of other states capital. We should praise Peter Obi for interconnecting Anambra. Every part of Anambra is easily accessible, thanks to Peter Obi. Even Ngige built narrow roads too. I'm disappointed by the rate of development in Awka, but we must know that the city is still evolving. I know what Awka used to look like before it was chosen as the capital. Let us not be armchair critics. We should support the efforts of the government. If you drive round Anambra with your car, you will be full of praises for the efforts of some previous governors. You are praising narrow roads and at the same time disappointed by the rate of development in Awka. We may all have different meanings of development. Those roads especially the ones in Awka, Nnewi are onitsha are the height of mediocrity. What is worth doing is worth doing well. In 5 or more years time, most of those roads will be broken down and begging for reconstruction. |

OdenigboAroli: Tell me a respected Anambrarian that has ever criticized Obi....from Obi Achebe,Eze Okpoko n'Oba,Emeka Anyaoku,Chimamanda,Dr.Ezeife,Late Dora Akunyili,Adaeze Oduah,Eze Chukwuemeka Ike Ndikelionwu,Anambra USA and more has praised Obi for his ebullient stride in the state. Show me an Anambrarian that criticizes Obi and I will show you a criminal who should be stoned to death or just an ignorant, unexposed think who doesn't know the rudiments of development at its most primary stage. eddiott stop ranting like an overfed dog. Nobody here is afraid of you.I have told you to open your own website if you dont want to see any peter obi criticism. For the records, here's what former cbn governor and a well respected Anambrarian (not those in the payroll of Peter obi) wrote about peter obi. There is no law that says we should stop bringing the activities of a former governor into discussions. One of those present took the satire to some level by comparing Jonathan to the ‘performance’ of the former Governor of Anambra, Peter Obi. He noted that while Obi gloated about ‘savings’, there is no signature project to remember his regime except that his regime took the first position among all states in Nigeria in the democratization of poverty—- mass impoverishment of the people of Anambra. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, poverty rose under his watch in Anambra from 20% in 2004 (lowest in Nigeria then) to 68% in 2010 (a 238% deterioration!).
Our friend likened it to a father who had no idea of what to do with his resources and was celebrating his fat bank account while his children were dying of kwashiorkor. He pointed out that since it is the likes of Peter Obi who are the advisers to Jonathan on how to manage the economy (thereby confusing micromanagement which you do as a trader with macro governance) it is little wonder that poverty is fast becoming another name for Nigeria. It was a very hilarious evening. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/buhari-vs-jonathan-beyond-election-charles-soludo/ |
