1k usd isn’t up to the minimum wage in America but 1.5m naira is like 20 times the minimum wage If someone created a thread comparing 70K in Nigeria to $1000 in US will you read it? |

Toh since you said it is done to make the tope interesting, he would have put disclaimer at the end of the write up. Like this

VeeVeeMyLuv: You too how many Nigerians earn 1.5m per month? Just a handful, you guys will now be using this insignificant number to generalize.
Why are you like this? It clearly shows you lack empathy. E no good o, U have family o, one day you will carry this behaviour home and manifest, u can't disguise for too long. Change before it is too late.
Moderators will see your comment and not ban you because you are defending a govt.
All of you allow one man to buy you all up.
If you want to do a proper comparison bring the same class in America and compare. What you just did is comparing 70,000 minimum wage with 1.5m monthly in salary in Nigeria. It is wicked! Stop it before it is too late. If you don't know this behaviour you are doing dey enter your gene becoming hard coded to your DNA genetic make up.
1.5m per month in Nigeria is almost close to high class.
Compare America higher middle class with Nigeria higher Middle class let's see.
You wonder why Nigeria is backward because of such crooked genes.
Income or salary please 🙏🏽 But you can't compare. How can you you compare? There'd be nothing to discuss. Only way to have interesting discussion is the type of comparison on this thread |

Politics › Re: Who Lives Better: Income Of ₦1.5 Million In Nigeria Or $1,000 In The US? by FreeIgboho: 10:52am On Oct 25, 2025 |
Konquest: Summary:
So who really lives better — the Nigerian earning N1.5 million or the American earning $1,000? It depends on what you call living. The Nigerian might eat better, rest better, and have more help. But the American lives in a system where those comforts are built into society, not paid for out of pocket.
Perhaps the goal shouldn’t be to choose one over the other, but to build a Nigeria where both comfort and structure coexist — where wages reflect productivity, not pity, and where enjoying life doesn’t depend on escaping dysfunction. Na lie o. Comforts are paid for out of pocket in America. If you don't pay your electric bill you won't have light. If u don't pay your rent you'll be homeless. If you don't have money or health insurance you'll only receive crappie emergency care, etc |

Host78: this is trăsh.
In the US they can comfortably earn $1000
How many people in Nigeria earn 1million a month to make this a valid conversation?
The lesser paid workers receive 1000 dollars, let's compare this with our lesser paid workers who earn 30k to 70k per month in Nigeria.
Then we can discuss who lives better between the two lower class.
Comparing a low class worker in the US with the upper class earner in Nigeria and then asking who lives better is both mischievous and wicked.
Compare the two lower class and the two upper class and you'll be ready for discussion. Valid point but NOT interesting discussion because there is nothing to discuss |

The person pulling a salary of N1.5 million in Nigeria, how much will he or she earn in a similar role in the US?
A Bank Manager, Medical Director, or Project Manager in Nigeria might earn about that amount here. Would someone in the same position earn less than USD 300,000 per year in the US?

casualobserver: Everybody’s situation is different, what I don’t like is people making generalizations and leading people here in Nigeria astray. A man who comes from Ajegunle and finds himself abroad has a different perspective on London from someone who comes from a middle class background. A man who is a care worker in London has a different perspective from a doctor or an IT worker in the UK. A man who has an entrepreneurial spirit has a different perspective from someone who is born to be an employee. A man who had no contacts or access in Nigeria is different from someone who knows people. A man without citizenship will have a different experience from someone who doesn’t. All will look at relocating or remaining abroad differently. That’s why whenever I see people glorifying japa I come on to counter and give the other side.
Do you have papers? Are you a citizen or a japa? What kind of job do you do? What kind of environment did you come from in Nigeria? What sort of savings do you have? Do you have children? When you are glorifying living abroad let people know where you are coming from. That way they know why for you it is better and why it may not be better for them. Very thoughtful |

That's not fair!
It is insensitive, irrational and unreasonable
The upper middle class income in US is at least $145,000 us dollars equivalent to 211 million naira (217, 000,000)! This is what you should be comparing with!. He said a prayer. That's the prayer he said - to be making less than $1000 in paradise US. I only said Amen! |

VeeVeeMyLuv: Can random nobody just start earning 1.5m naira monthly just like that both in public and private sector in Nigeria? Do your findings. Shebi one of your fellow defenders just said in America you can earn $1000 usd depending on how many hours you put in.
Can you do this in Nigeria without knowing anybody ? No! These days even cleaner jobs you must know somebody, they don turn am to family and friends workplace. Mind private sector has joined in this behavior. Where you wan even see the per hour job for naira sef.
How many earn 1.5m in Nigeria to start with. Maybe in your circle of family and friends most of them earn that much, granted. The problem is now using your circle to generalize for the whole Nigeria. That is thoughtless and wicked. No need for long talk. You prayed to be in US making minimum wage (less that $1K per month) while he'll be in Nigeria making N1.5m. I only said Amen! Here's a mind trick: if your mind is focused elsewhere you won't see the opportunities right where you are even if they hit u in the head |

Yankee101: That’s the same amount Abroad, in the US or Canada Your kids get feee education in public schools If you pay your taxes for up to 10 years you’ll get a pension You have access to welfare, soup kitchens, child credits Food is also very cheap. The major problem with that amount is just accomodation. If you’re not ashamed you can be on welfare and you’ll get discounted housing and food stamps Security, electricity, fairly good roads, potable water, cheap public transportation are taken for granted You can get job place healthcare insurance in the US while in Canada healthcare is free
Of course you can earn more money if you’re ready to work harder
Now talks you still want to compare? We are talking people who EARN and PAY their own way. You still want to compare $1000 to N1.5m? |
