mimzy: Hmmmm.. Very well said bro.. Your last paragraph triggered a question I have been meaning to create as a topic but let me put it to you... As a Nigerian, do you really think that we have Exclusive Freedom of Speech? Do u believe that our Journalists/Reporters really have freedom of speech? Do u think that the average Nigerian can speak freely without the fear of intimidation? Hmmm... ma'am, This is one broad tricky(if i can use the word) topic on its own-"Freedom of speech or Freedom of Expression" Yes... we as Nigerians, our journalists/reporters do have "freedom of speech"... and yes Nigerians can speak freely without the fear of intimidation... However just the same way every sociological feature/benefit that comes with a peculiar type of governance(in this case Democracy) as adopted by this distinct entity in political geography-Nigeria; can be abused by d citizenry. Thus, the need to place a sustainable clause/limitation/exceptions on the law empowering FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Defamation, obcenity, incitement to violence amongst others are some of the exceptions that voids constituitional protection on freedom of speech/expression OR Re-phrase:: There is freedom of speech. But that freedom as an END. That END begins when the said 'Speech' violates the law that protects its FREEDOM. |

Urlando: Social media has helped shaa. . . The introduction of hash-tags and other stuff's has gotten nigerians more engaged but I think the govt sponsors some of the controversial stories so they can trend more than they're supposed to. For instance; few weeks ago, we were all about saraki's daily CCT trials and then BOOM! Tiwa Savage's husband provided the perfect distraction and it was blown way out of proportion! Suddenly, we forgot the fuel cue's, we forgot Saraki's daily court visits (I personally don't know if he's done with the courts or not), even boko haram had to bow to Tiwa and her hubby. I think we're letting these things distract us too damn much.
My 2kobo. Where is lalasticlala when you need him seff? fretfingers: OP, You are right on spot. Although I believe WE (Nigerians) have somewhat moved from that level of nonchalant attitude towards governance/the activities therein to this present level--- where Nigerians are now keeping track n watching closely the affairs of the present government. I also believe the opportunity given to this present government has made 'MORE' Nigerians interested in governance although not as compared to that of the entertainment world--- but Nigerians are now asking more questions on every step taken/to b taken by the government. What's left to be improved on IMO is asking the RIGHT questions n beta understanding of governance by the 'Majority' (I included). Because I believe we seldom discuss governance because we don't really have adequate knowledge to engage in a proper dialogue. Hence, the level of the common mans interest and/or perhaps 'the Majority' in National issues. Note:: My Opinion @bolded My point exactly... Governance to a common man especially the majority of the youth is kinda boring I guess... Moreover the leaders when I sang the "... we are the leaders of tomorow... Try to pay our school fees..." song in primary school, are the same people still leading us---RECYCLED GOVERNANCE! There is absolutely NO/LESS moltivation to discuss or to develop adequate interest in governance compared to entertainment... According to some theories of moltivation we(humans) act according to our heirarchy of needs. Now taking this into consideration---entertainment moltivates a lot compared to governance in Nigeria (I stand to be corrected), it also helps ease ones stress( heirarchy of Nigerians needs at this present strenuous time)... Stress caused by the state of governance as a result of deeply rooted level of corruption(misappropriation of funds, false manifesto, misuse of power n so on)... Ma'am.... I believe with enough moltivation the youth which contributes to 'the majority' will discuss more on important issues e.g Governance. We gon get there... I believe! |

Business › Re: Banning Forex Trading And Sports Betting Promotion by fretfingers: 11:24pm On May 03, 2016 |
lestat: Frankly your point doesn't make any sense! Is sport being or forex trading illegal ?? No not in any country in the world! I think what we have here is an outright abuse of perceived influence because you think you have something against the said practices there by you want users to justify an action you have already clearly decided to make. Now is the ban on sports betting and forex trading beneficial to your website users? No it's not! Because your user base are not the major clients of sports betting and forex comoanies. Infact I don't know anyone who has gotten good sports betting tips from your website. Infact your website is so insignificant in the sports betting genre because I know for a fact that the major players don't advertise here as they do on other sites like Linda Ikeji and Bella naija. If trully you care about nairaland users first take steps to curb the tribal hate and religious hate that your website activity encourages! Don't come here and play the sympathetic cronner when in reality there's probably some other reason you want to ban these. I guess maybe because they don't advertise with you? Mr Seun take steps to curb hate posts that your website encourages these are doing more damage to the country than all the 100 naira my gateman looses every weekend to bet9ja. #WORD!!! @bolded |
