PoliticsAgriculture Is Key To Economic Boost Says Obaseki by fruityvine(op): 11:35am On Aug 22, 2016
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Godwin Obaseki has stated that his administration will focus on developing the agricultural sector to boost the economy of state.

Obaseki made the statement on Friday while addressing party supporters in Amedokhian, Uromi, in Esan North local government area of the state.

The governorship candidate noted that his administration will develop the agric sector by investing heavily in it because it is the key the state needs to open up and resuscitate its economy.

Obaseki, who pointed out that the fall in crude oil price is a stack reminder to every right-thinking individual or group that the time to fully develop the agriculture sector is now, added that if voted into office, his administration will give the sector the attention it needs because it holds the key to sustainable economic regeneration and continuous employment creation in the state.

According to him, "We all know that crude oil has been the major backbone of our economy. We also know that right now its price has fallen drastically. What we need to know is that developing the Agric sector is key to reboosting our economy. We will do this by investing heavily on the hugely untapped agricultural potentials all over the state. By investing in the sector, the state will not only put its economy on the path of sustainable growth and feed its people, it will also our employment capacity".

Obaseki also promised that developing the sector to be the pillar on which the economic resuscitation of the state stands is not difficult because the state is naturally endowed with vast agricultural potentials.

According to him, what is required is the political will to do the needful. He assured that if voted into office, the people of the state will be glad that they did because he has the wherewithal, both in investment and political experiences to do the needful.

"Edo state is blessed with arable land that is very suitable for large scale farming. If voted into office, my administration will place high premium on the development of the sector through continuous investment so that the state can feed the people, increase its economic profile and put thousands of people in employment. I have promised to deliver over 200,000 jobs within my administration's first four years.

"It is not rocket science but a simple determination to do the needful. I am specialist in investment and the good news is that each community in the state is blessed with so much agricultural potentials that if well harnessed, the sky is our limit in terms of food sufficiency, economic growth and employment generation. That is why my administration will invest so much in the sector by bringing in investable funds. At the end of the day, our determination to provide the empowerment we talk about will be seen as it is achievable", Obaseki pointed out.

PoliticsNo True Son Of Obaseki Will Vote For Ize-iyamu- Obaseki by fruityvine(op): 1:08pm On Jul 27, 2016
Benin – Chief Osayuki Obaseki, the Ohen of Benin kingdom, on Tuesday asked his relation, Don Pedro Obaseki, to immediately tender apologies to the family over his comments that people should vote for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, rather than his cousin, Godwin Obaseki, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former NFF president, who addressed journalists on behalf of the Obaseki family, said, “I will not want to hand over Pedro to our ancestors because I don’t want him dead. But I will appeal to Don Pedro to retrace his steps, come back to the family and tender an unreserved apology and retract his statement that people should vote for Ize-Iyamu instead of Obaseki”.

According to him, “I do not know if I should say Pedro is one of my children because I am afraid of him now. I want to correct the unfortunate impression he created. I do not know if he is in any political party because he could not have been in APC today, tomorrow Accord Party and you are ending up in PDP. That is political harlotry which is a big shame.

“I want the world to know that no true son of Obaseki, born by Obaseki with Obaseki blood will ever vote Ize-Iyamu. The whole Obaseki length and breadth we are all supporting Godwin our son. Yes we all cannot put our eggs in one basket, there are some radicals who can go to the other group but don’t insult our son Godwin. Because he is very knowledgeable, he knows what he is doing, he has been in the Stock Exchange for years and that is the power house of Nigeria’s economy.

“He knows who is who in this country. We are not supporting Don Pedro and his allies, I say here now no Obaseki should vote for Ize-Iyamu. Ize-Iyamu is my mother’s relation, that is my mother, my father comes first before my mother. No true son of Obaseki will vote for Ize-Iyamu, we must all vote for Obaseki.
PoliticsAnenih Threatening My Life, Edo Monarch Cries Out by fruityvine(op): 12:30pm On Jul 26, 2016
BENIN—THE Onojie of Opoji and Vice Chairman,

Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, HRH Ehidiamen Aidonojie I, yesterday, raised alarm, that he was being threatened by the former chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Tony Anenih. Chief-Tony-Anenih Chief-Tony-Anenih The royal father said that his lawyers were already preparing a petition to be submitted to the Inspector General of Police and the state Police Commissioner Chris Ezike, on the issue, adding that it was “because I told the world that Esan Royal fathers never endorsed Ize-Iyamu.” But reacting, Chief Anenih, took a swipe at the Onojie of Opoji, Ehidiamen Aidonojie I, saying that he has never killed anyone in his life time even when he was a young person, let alone now that he is 83. Speaking to Vanguard on phone, Chief Anenih, said “Onojie of Opoji was one of the traditional rulers who received our candidate and the PDP’s governorship candidate for the September election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. I know him very well. I never killed somebody in my life even as a Police Constable. Is it now that I will be 83 that I will kill somebody? I will not kill anybody in my life. I am a peaceful man. I will not kill an ordinary man, a big man, a traditional ruler or anybody. I will not even contemplate killing the Onojie of Opoji, why will I do that?” The Royal father, had alleged “He (Anenih) called me shouting at me ‘Your Highness, I am disappointed in you.’ I asked him what I had done, he kept shouting ‘what has Oshiomhole (governor) done’ for me in my life and I told him to stop insulting me even if he is Anenih, that I am a traditional ruler for Christ sake. “He said that was why he was not happy that I attended the function at the Onojie of Uromi’s palace. He went on to say that he thought we had settled, he said he thought we had settled our problem. But I told him that what we agreed was that he should make an Esan man governor but he never did it. “Rather what he brought to Esan people now was deputy governor and he still kept it in Uromi. And that was the same thing we have been complaining, all the ministers have come from his place in Uromi and in every election, he will ask Esan people to vote PDP. I asked why did he not move the deputy governorship to another community in Esanland, must it be Uromi? “He said I should be careful and he was warning me. First of all, it is an abomination to insult a Royal father like me. I have briefed my lawyers and we are petitioning the IG of Police. I have already informed the state Commissioner of Police and the DSS. Why must Esan people vote PDP when in Esan, most of us have been marginalised while Uromi remains the Israel,” he said.

PoliticsObaseki Family Distances Self From Pedro by fruityvine(op): 7:53am On Jul 26, 2016
The Obaseki family of Benin Kingdom, headed by a Justice Otutu Obaseki (rtd), yesterday, distanced itself from the activities of Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki, the former Accord Party governorship candidate and nephew to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, saying the family has resolved to back the latter’s governorship ambition.

The family in a statement signed by Mr. William Obaseki, described the action of Pedro as shameful and embarrassing to the family, adding that it will soon meet to decide the next line of action.

Pedro Obaseki recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared support for the party’s governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to the chagrin of his family.

But the Obaseki family in a swift reaction, said: “We wish to inform the general public that the family disassociates itself from the mischievous actions of Pedro Obaseki. “We hereby reaffirm Godwin Enogheghase Obaseki as the only recognised candidate, who has the blessings of the head of Obaseki Ogbeideoyoo family, Chief Justice Andrew Otutu Obaseki, Justice of the Supreme Court (rtd) and the Obaseki of Benin Kingdom for the September 10, governorship election.

“We urge all Edo sons and daughters to support him, so that he can take Edo State to the next level. Nobody should be distracted with the activities of Pedro, our blessings remains with Godwin and God willing, he will win.”
PoliticsBoarding The Obaseki, Shaibu Campaign Train by fruityvine(op): 7:11pm On Jul 25, 2016
The governorship campaigns for the September 10 poll  is in top gear with all parties in full swing with their campaigns which has charged the political climate of the state. Many are wondering what the 19 candidates have in stock for them as they make up their minds for  their choice.

While some candidates are positively engaging the electorates with their programmes and policies if given a chance to lead, the Peoples Democratic Party aka  People Deceive People (PDP) are at their game of deceit again. They are already marketing lies to Edo people, promising to build bridges where there are no rivers. They are telling us stories as though Edo people have short memories, but unknown to them, Edo people are wiser by the day.

While the APC flagged off its campaign in Benin City with a big bang and massive turn out of thousands of supporters, the PDP, which has been boxed to an ethnic corner, took its campaign launch to Uromi, the home town of its national leader,  and the old Pussy Cat, Chief Tony  Ahokon Anenih.

Anenih, who is 82,  at the event said he would not have been at the rally if he had no assurances that his party would win the September 2016 poll. Anenih said, “Today, we have problems in Edo State. Problems of hardship, insecurity. People who used to eat three times a day now eat once a day. We have had Oshimohole for eight years, we have no water.”

He  accused Oshimohole of failing to pay a counterpart fund of N300million for the Federal Government to make water available in Edo State. Anenih also accused the Edo governor of doing everything to frustrate the candidature of pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, as PDP’s flag bearer.

On his part, Loquacious Dan Orbih accused Oshiomhole of using public  fund amounting to N17billion to build his private House in Iyamho, compelling the factional PDP candidate to make a  promise to probe Governor Adams Oshiomhole if he is elected. They promised to abolish tax and allow people to drive anyhow and shade their goods in the walk ways. Yet they say they will employ all the unemployed in Edo State, pay all pensioners their arrears (which they accumulated in the first place) and build industries. Then the question is with which money will they want to do all these? Do they mean well for Edo people?

Clearly, the Edo PDP has refused to believe that no Edo man, woman, youth or even children is ready to travel with them to the land of greed, misery, corruption and underdevelopment. In the ten wasted years of PDP in Edo State, what was the situation? What did Edo people benefit from the PDP government? There were horrendous pot holes, gutter and even brooks in all the roads in the City of Benin and major urban Centres across the state. There were deep pot holes even in Ring Road. Whenever it threatened to rain, people ran quickly from wherever they were to their homes so as to be able to salvage their property from the devastation of flood that was almost a daily occurrence. All that is almost fading away following the application of the right development approach by the Adams Oshiomhole-led APC government and Edo people are not ready at all for a paradigm shift.

In every intent and purpose, from every new policies and programmes of the APC government this past seven and a half years, Oshiomhole and his team made them people-centered. One thing is clear about the average black man: the average black man needs a little bit of force to compel them to do the right thing.  Yes. Just a little bit of it.

Otherwise, why will some citizens  see the beauty put in place by the oshiomhole administration in the cities still throw wastes all over the roads that have just been constructed and beautified? Why will traders, in spite of repeated warnings chose to use the pedestrian walk ways as  wracks for  their wares? Why will a driver, private or public drive against traffic? Why should they beat  red traffic light? Why should a responsible citizen not pay his or her own tax?

These are innovations, policies and programmes introduced by the Oshiomhole administration to get Edo State out of the woods and put it at par with civilized societies. Today, 27 states of the federation, including the big oil producing states in the Niger Delta cannot pay their state workers salaries. But Comrade Oshiomhole, working with the Head of the administration’s economic team, Godwin Obaseki, now the APC governorship candidate are not only paying salaries as and when due, but have gone ahead to increase Edo workers’ salaries from a minimum wage of N18,000 to N25,000. Even the workers promotion are being processed to make it up-to-date before the end of the current administration in November.

This is why  I have repeatedly said that history will remember Oshiomhole in Edo State long after he would have left office. Today, the PDP is telling Edo people that citizens would not be made to pay their taxes. This is a retrogressive promise, because even Jesus Christ paid his tax and instructed his followers to pay their taxes as well. Tax is important if we have to sustain the tempo of development Oshomhole has provided, more so  in the face of dwindling nationally shared oil revenue and competing  social and developmental needs in Edo State. Oshiomhole has obviously opened Edo people’s eyes to behold what a responsible government can do for its citizens.

Edo people will certainly regret if they allow the PDP to manipulate their way into government. When therefore, the PDP is promising Edo people that it will not collect taxes, Edo people should know that the party is desperate to return them to Egypt and from the various commentaries all around the state, Edo people are united that affliction of the PDP will not visit them a second time.

This perhaps explains why in Benin where Governor Adams Oshimohole and the party formally presented Mr. Godwin Obaseki as the party’s flag bearer and Honourable Philip Shaibu as his deputy for the September 10 governorship poll, every available space at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium was filled to capacity with mammoth crowd of supporters. Even outside the main bowl of the stadium was filled with anxious supporters of the APC. That and the turn-out of supporters for Obaseki and Shaibu at the on-going ward-to-ward campaigns are a testimonial that the APC will emerge victorious.

The Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu train is set to move and it is important that all Edo voters  join the train. The PDP will definitely be rejected by the electorate as has been their lots in all recent elections in Edo State, so that the development that Edo people have been witnessing would be sustained with greater appeal, zeal and zest.

PoliticsEDO 2016: My Flag-off Speech Is A Contract Document Signed With Edo People -- Go by fruityvine(op): 5:35pm On Jul 22, 2016
•...condemns criticism of reading the speech

• Edo people need to have a documented evidence of his promise in order for them to hold him accountable for it

-By Endurance Ihungbe Oboite

Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki; the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 10 governorship election in Edo state has said he decided to put his Flag-off speech in writing and read to Edo people because of his burning desire to be accountable to the people based on his electoral promise to them and for Edo people to have a documented evidence of his promise in order for them to hold him accountable for it.

He made the statement through the State Coordinator of the campaign organization Mr. Osakue Aiyevbekpen while playing host to some support groups that were in the campaign office on a solidarity visit.

He noted that the criticism from persons he described as a microscopic few who are hired political town criers that go about spreading propaganda of lies to confuse the unsuspecting public in order to divert away their attention from the issues that affect Edo State and her people instead of telling Edo people what they intend to do for them if they are elected into government.

He then pointed out that, if there be any one amongst the array of candidates nominated by the different political parties for the forthcoming governorship election in the state, that is intelligent, vocal and eloquent the person he said is Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

According to him “It is very unfortunate and disappointing when people ask why Godwin Obaseki was reading his speech instead of talking from his head. If you were at the stadium you will understand that what he read was far more than a speech but a fundamental policy statement in form of a manifesto that was presented by him as a contract document which by virtue of reading it to the hearing of the people has become an undeniable signed contract document with them”.

He further stated “He decided to present it in that manner so that whatever he has promised will be on a documented paper which will be difficult to be distorted or misquoted out of context in the near future by detractors.

PoliticsOshiomhole, Odubu Join Forces For Obaseki by fruityvine(op): 11:31am On Jul 14, 2016
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and Dr. Pius Odubu his deputy have put their political differences behind them to join forces for the victory of Mr Godwin Obaseki in the September 10 governorship election in the state.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC at the Government House, Benin City, yesterday, Governor Oshiomhole said the APC family remains united in spite of stories in the media of cracks in the party in the state.

The Governor said: “we called this meeting basically to reaffirm the oneness of the All Progressives Congress (APC) family. The Deputy Governor and I have worked together as Deputy and Governor for seven and half years, and we have struggled together as candidate and running mate from 2007; we worked together, dined together, socialized together.”

“For sometime, it has been in the news that the Deputy Governor and I, and I believe the watchers of Nigeria’s politics will agree, that Pius and I have had an extremely cordial relationship. And I had without any prompting, said again and again in several quarters that working with Pius, I found him to be absolutely loyal, dedicated and committed. Nobody was able to infiltrate us, and to our mutual record, nobody ever came to settle a quarrel between the Deputy Governor and I over the past seven and half years.

“Sometimes when we joke, whether in public or private, we don’t relate as boss – subordinate. We relate as brothers that we have been.”

He continued, “Pius and I fought many battles, both political battles and battles to reposition this government, and together we can effortlessly point at what our stewardship accomplished for the benefit of the people of Edo State, which I believe necessarily forms the foundation for electioneering campaign that is about to begin. Having worked so hard, and related so closely, there is no question, Pius and I, in or out of government will remain friends, brothers and comrades. ”

He said he had taken some decisions which had affected some of the supporters of the Deputy Governor. He said, “The internal primaries have come and gone. We all knew that even if all twelve were angels, only one angel was required, and in choosing that one angel nobody needs to give reasons why you prefer one angel to another. And that is simply what has played out in our party. But I acknowledge the fact that in the course of the tension, statements were made, some fairly, some unfairly. As a Governor, at a point, I took some decisions some of which clearly affected some of the supporters of my brother, the Deputy Governor.

“In line with the spirit of our party and the desire of our people and the prescription of common sense and the teachings of our own religion, both of us being Catholics. In our daily prayer we say among other things, forgive me my trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against me. To actualize this, if Pius has wronged me in any way, I have already forgiven him, and he too has told me he has also forgiven me, but he has the opportunity to speak for himself. And as part of the demonstration of this total reconciliation and reunion, and sheer commitment to maintain the unity of our party, which since 2008 against all odds overthrew the then Peoples Democratic Party, what God has put together, internal party primaries will never put asunder.

He continued: “as part of my own atonement, and to demonstrate my commitment to our friendship and our conviviality, which characterize our working together for the past seven and half years or even nine years, some of the people who were affected in the course of this contestation, I have decided to re-engage, to reinstate them to their former positions wherever that was possible and even to get their remuneration restored as if they were never removed.”

Also speaking, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and vigorously campaign for Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the party’s flagbearer in the September 10 election.

He said, “Yesterday belongs to the past, and we have decided to put the past behind us. Today is another day, and I want to in the presence of my father here and everybody here present reaffirm my commitment to this party APC and to its victory at all elections.

“We will work even harder than we have ever worked, because anybody who has occupied any office like a proud father will want to leave a successor behind. We want to leave with our party APC remaining in government.”

According to Odubu, “I thank all those who have shown concern all these months over what has been happening. Political contestation is in the realm of politics. I told my people from the beginning that we must be civil, that there will be one winner at the end of the day. We have gone through it all and there is one winner. And as a loyal party man, I am committed to working for the success of the party and our candidate.”

Odubu added, “I want to appreciate you, Mr. Governor for taking back those that were sacked, and I am sure their families will be happy.”

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the APC, Barr. Anselm Ojezua expressed delight for the full reconciliation of all party members and expressed optimism that victory was certain for the APC with this reconciliation.

PoliticsEdo Gov: PDP Factions Submit Separate Names To INEC by fruityvine(op): 4:20am On Jul 12, 2016
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Monday as two factions in the party claimed that they had submitted names of their respective governorship candidates for the Edo State governorship poll to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The factions are the one being led by the party’s Chairman, National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, and the other under the factional Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff.

Both men and their followers are currently locked in a legal battle over the leadership of the opposition party.

The deadline for the submission of names of governorship candidates by political parties for the Edo governorship election, according to the timetable, released by the commission is Tuesday (today).

The election holds on September 10.
The spokesperson for the Makarfi camp, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, told our correspondent on the telephone that the party had done the needful.

He said he was sure that the commission would recognise its candidate, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who he said had commenced mobilisation of the voters in the state.
Adeyeye added, “Well, we have met the standard as we have sent the name of our candidate and his running mate to the commission. We are not expecting the commission to deny them recognition. We have nothing to fear. We are already in the field.”

In the same vein, the Sheriff faction said it had sent the name of its candidates for the election to the electoral body.

The Deputy National Chairman of the group, Dr. Cairo Ojugboh, said his faction was relying on the court ruling that ordered that only the Sheriff group should be allowed to submit names of candidates for the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.

He said he was sure that the candidate that emerged at the primary conducted by the Sheriff faction, Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekwemwen, would make the INEC final list.

Ojugboh stated, “We have submitted the name of our governorship candidate for the Edo election based on the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

“The commission ordered INEC not to accept the lists of our (PDP) governorship candidates for the election in Edo and Ondo states from any other body except from the Sheriff-led leadership of the party.

“It was Justice Okon Abang who said this while delivering ruling in an interlocutory application filed by two governorship aspirants on the platform of the PDP in Edo and Ondo states.

“So, we have abided by the ruling of his lordship and that’s all. Anyone who submits or attempts to submit any other name apart from the name we have submitted is in contempt of the court.”

However, feelers from the commission did not corroborate the claims of the two factions of the former ruling party.
The Deputy Director of the commission’s Publicity and Voter Education, Mr. Nick Dazang, said as of 4.52pm, the PDP was not among the six political parties that had submitted the names of their governorship candidates.

He said, “As of 4.52pm, the PDP was not among the political parties that had submitted their candidates. But the deadline is still tomorrow, which is Tuesday (today). For now, six political parties have submitted the names of their candidates.”

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in forthcoming governorship election in Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has confirmed the selection of the member representing Etsako Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Mr. Philip Shaibu, as his running.
Shaibu was a former majority leader in the Edo State House of Assembly, under Etsako West II, where Governor Adams Oshiomhole hails from.
Obaseki said the choice of the federal lawmaker was reached after consultations with the party’s leadership.
He also described Shaibu as a youthful politician, whose wealth of political experience will contribute to the task of bringing meaningful development to the state.
Meanwhile, people with disability in the state have backed the aspiration of the APC candidate, saying that his love for the youth of the state will help check unemployment in the state.
Obaseki said, “After consultation with the party caucus and leadership, I have accepted Philip Shuaibu as my running mate. He comes with a lot of political experience, having served as majority leader of the state House of Assembly and a member of the Committee on Works in the House of Representatives.
“He belongs to this generation of politicians who will be joining me in this effort to take Edo to another height. I am happy with the decision of the party and Shuaibu, being somebody that I have worked with all these years, understands the politics and, most importantly as a young man, our youths have where to run to. I am glad I will be having somebody like him around to help provide the services needed by our people.”
The APC candidate promised that if elected his administration would build on the success recorded by the current administration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

This is what Erudite's called hypocrisy Campaign.

PoliticsEdo APC Candidate, Obaseki:i Have Never Been Involved In Any Fraudulent Activity by fruityvine(op): 1:44pm On Jul 07, 2016
The flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Edo state gubernatorial election, Mr. Godwin Obaseki says he has never been involved in any fraudulent activity, debunking reports in the social media that he was under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Obaseki, in a chat with newsmen in Benin City, said issues raised by the late Humphrey Idisi family against a German firm have nothing to do with him, stressing that he is just a shareholder.

“I don’t have a case with the EFCC. I am on the board of several companies. This is a German company that owns rig in Nigeria. They have a partner who died many years ago and unfortunately, his estate has not been properly managed.

“His other businesses have gone bankrupt. The company saw a petition by some of the children claiming that the company was owing their father.

“There was an agreement that showed that the company paid everything due to the man. The family has been having quarrels and internal issues.

“If somebody is owing you, why go to the EFCC? There is a civil process to do so. It has nothing to do with me. I didn’t manage the company. I am just a shareholder and on the board of the company. I didn’t take money from anybody. I have never stolen, I have never taken anybody’s money before.”

EDO 2016: Airhiavbere takes on Ikimi, PDP leaders

…Says Ize-Iyamu’s emergence dead on arrival

Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2012 general election, Major-General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd), has taken a swipe at leaders of the party over comments made by Chief Tom Ikimi at the campaign flag off of Pastor Ize-Iyamu on Monday.

Airhiavbere, now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, said the trio of Chief Tom Ikimi, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion and Chief Tony Anenih cannot win the September 10 elections for Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

He stated this while reacting to the red card issued to Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the All Progressive Congress in Edo State and urged the PDP leaders to stop toying with the emotions of Edo people.

According to the retired General, it was unfair for Ikimi to say former President Goodluck Jonathan was an anti-party leader for allegedly ensuring the success of Governor Oshiomhole in 2012.

Pointing out that the leadership structure of the party has changed, the former PDP candidate said the leaders were jokers to think of defeating Governor Oshiomhole and the APC in the elections because “they are going to have me to deal with”.

General Airhiavbere particularly lashed at Chief Ikimi for referring to the new general hospital as a glorified clinic when he (Chief Ikimi) was paid N350m as a consultant to design the hospital, even as he urged the PDP leaders to bow their heads in shame after being part of a government that rule and ruin the state between 1999 and 2007.

“I was the candidate of the PDP in the 2012 governorship elections. For Pastor Ize-Iyamu and Tom Ikimi to say former President Jonathan is an anti-party leader is unfair. They were unfair to Jonathan as a president of this country and a leader of the PDP as at that time.”

“We have reached a stage where PDP leaders should stop toying with the emotions of Edo people. Ize-Iyamu’s emergence as PDP candidate is dead on arrival. How can the PDP win elections here when it can abandon its candidate in 2012?

“In 2011 and 2012, Chief Tony Anenih told the public that he sold his house to lead the governorship campaign but today it is in the public glare that Jonathan sent money for that election. I was an orphan at the tribunal up to the Supreme Court. I know the role the leaders of the party played during my elections.

“They sold Oshiomhole to the Edo people four years ago because of their inordinate ambition. Today, they are not talking about Edo people; they are talking about how Oshiomhole betrayed them. It was because Oshiomhole did not agree with them to give Ize-Iyamu the ticket”, Gen. Airhiavbere said

Adibe Emenyonu in Benin City

A prominent governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, was on Wednesday invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) in connection with allegations of financial impropriety regarding the alleged campaign funds he received during the 2015 general elections.

Sources at the EFCC office in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, confirmed that the aspirant was granted administrative bail on Wednesday and was asked to appear on a later date already communicated to him.

He thought he could secure his bail on Tuesday night but you know the investigation here is always thorough and detailed, and we have to keep him till yesterday (Wednesday).

“He was questioned over allegation of #700 million allegedly disbursed to Edo state for the 2015 general elections”, the source disclosed.

When contacted on phone, Ize-Iyamu said he was on his way to Benin City, noting that he was invited by the anti=corruption agency as the coordinator of former President Goodluck Jonathan over the said funds and that he has explained to the anti-graft agency what he knows about the money and promised to give more details when he arrives the state capital.

Some officials of INEC had been recently investigated for allegedly compromising during the 2015 election by some powerful politicians in the then ruling party to manipulate the election in the favour of the PDP.

Few days ago, Ize-Iyamu alleged that Governor Adams Oshiomhole has squandered over #1 trillion from the Federation Account since he came to power in 2008.
