SupremeCourt:
New CIA and UN reports on CNN, Al-Jazeera, BBC is that ISIS is losing in Arabia and migrating down to Africa, including West Africa to find easier targets like Niger, Sudan, Mali or your rusted T-72 boasting Nigeria. Planning ahead to defeat danger flowing to your country, is strange doctrine to block heads like you, to you all it looks foolish to be wise and avoid habit of fire brigade looking for water when house has burned people to death, you never get your water and chemicals in advance and right quantity, that is your black man curse since A.D. 1706.
If they are losing and migrating to Affrica then they certainly won't have their high quality equipment. They would just be adding more bodies to the conflict.

All of you shouting T-72 is almost same as T-90 are pure breed mugus. T-90 Self defence shtora is easy to remove and store if you dont need it till terrorists bring anti-tank missiles. T-90 has new ammunition storage protection to avoid blowing itself up and cooking our soldiers with their own explosive shells, new model 125mm gun, shtora missile blocker, new model 8km range camera, new model 5km range gun camera, new passive mixed amour, all those are missing from T-72 you block head! Dem swear for you from village or MTN block your internet you cannot google T-90?
T-90 has the same ammunition protection. The issue with the ammo of the T-72/T-90 is it's carousel. That was only changed on the T-14. Both tanks use the same 2a46 125mm gun. You can equip that other stuff on a T-72B (aka a T-90).

Are you blind or just an idiiot? That Nigerian T-72 is ERA model and over 60 pieces of its ERA armour have fallen off and disappeared completely exposing the tank to RPG that Boko Haram can use to cook all the ammunition inside and kill those innocent soldiers
That's not proof of a tank falling apart. ERA is an easy fix.

Look at image A when our T-72 arrived all ERA complete, next image B when the ERA began to fall away one by one with no replacement till image C when all the ERA armour broke off pata pata and vanished from the whole side and half of the front, the only remaining ERA are the ones on the turret, that is a Nigerian ERA model T-72 stripped half naked by overdose of work.
and how will a T-90 fix this issue? A T-90 relies on ERA just as much. Maybe you should be asking for an ERA plant to be established instead of T-90s?

I said Nigerian T-72 tanks are breaking into pieces and fools are telling me I am wrong. Until 100 Nigerian soldiers die inside those broken armour T-72 before you call for T-90? Bros go river side ask prophet to wash ya head for you before it is too late.
They are not breaking into pieces. They are just being used.

Xbee007:
Fufubear, we have to start thinking long-term. ISIS is under intense pressure in the middle east, slowly they are moving towards other safe havens where they can operate with impunity. Nigeria is on their top destination. What if ISIS decides to gift the BHT some ATGMs or some other deadly weapons in their inventort? Is that when we will start discussing buying T-90? If we don't finish this Boko mess now it will be disastrous in the future.
Sure. You can think long term. Long term doesn't say T72 is junk and needs to be replaced now though. T72 and T90 have the same gun and fire the same ammo. They both can mount the same armor package too. With the T90 you only really get some other upgrades like SHTORA (which is pretty expensive to operate). The cost to upgrade to T90 isn't justified. Besides, I'd rather go China instead.

The noose on ISIS is tightening. They are not really in the position to be gifting high quality ATGMS.

SupremeCourt:
The pot holes on Lagos Benin expressway started at the size of a rat, Nigerian government said its not a big problem, road must spoil when its used everyday. Till the pot holes increased to size of a cow and hundreds of Nigerians died in accidents and some robbed raped killed by armed robbers when they slow down to climb in and out of those pot holes at night.

Keep defending NA T-72 that has many parts of armour fallen off exposing the soldiers inside to Boko Haram RPG hits that will blow up all the ammunition storage in the tank and burn our troops to ashes. Their lives don't matter, it's not your own son that will die, and it's not brigadier generals or senators that will die in our T-72 that now have less armour than the intelligent white man made to protect weak points of the tank.

I blame my mother wey no born me for Japan, to be a Nigerian is a shame when you see how Nigerians think backwards.
Look, there is no hole in any armor plate on the T72 because that would be a deadlining fault for any nation (because at that point the tank doesn't serve it's purpose). The tank in the pictures are either missing sideskirts or splash guards. Those are all routine/optional features. That's not a sign of a vehicle in bad shape, it's a sign of a vehicle being used in the field. War isn't clean, go look at real operational photos of ww2 or any other large conflict. Not all the vehicles will be in factory fresh condition because it's simply impossible.
Foreign AffairsRe: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by fufubear: 4:53pm On Dec 17, 2017
T72 isn't even a bad tank. The T90, at it's base model, is literally a T72B. Having a T90 or T72 will not substantially effect any progress in the NE. Boko Haram are not shooting high performance ATGMs they are probably stuck with only base model RPG-7s or maybe an upgraded RPG-7V if they are lucky. Both of those will struggle with the front of a T72. Sure they can get in through the side but so can just about anything can get through the side of a modern MBT.

Now as for the pics of T72s in bad state. Most of those issues only look superficial. Missing a splashguard will not effect the tanks performances (just makes it a pain to clean and requires more frequent cleaning). Missing ERA blocks is a simple fix and isn't even worth mentioning. The only proof to the tanks falling apart would be to mention the readiness percentage of an armored division but if it's anything like the US (and I'm sure it is) you'd have to be the unit quartermaster or in the Headquarters unit to know that info as that's highly confidential.

Now imo if there were to be more tanks bought I would say either buy some high quality T72Bs and T90s or go with a Chinese Type 99. NATO is out of the question so no point even considering them and getting. T14 is unlikely since the Russians are having issues funding production for themselves. I doubt they would start selling T14s to anyone else.

Whats up with the rubber bands on the grenade?

Why would you want to stop the lever from popping when you pull the pin?
It's probably a safety feature. The US m67 Has a similar thing but it's a metal clip instead.. The idea is that a grenade that somehow accidentally gets it's pin pulled will still be safe to use.

It isn't too far fetched that an mrap can withstand a 23mm 2a7 AP round. That gun isn't known for its armor penetration. What I can find as the best AP round for the gun is an APFSDS-T round that is only capable of penetrating 30mm of RHA at 30° from vertical at 100m (if someone finds a better one feel free to correct me).

This could mean that the front is probably resistant. Sides could possibly be penetrated but it wouldn t be easy. The rear I don't think will be all that easy either. This is alo speculation though because without knowing the actuall armor type and thickness we can't really tell what it can or can't resist. What we do know though is that the ara is pretty heavy for an mrap which could possibly mean enough armor to deal with the API rounds of the 2a7.

And I'm pretty confident the AA gun being referred to is a zsu 23 since those are the most common used by terrorist organizations. Other platforms like the bofors are stuck to old mounts and have limited magazines which make them unfavourable to mount on a Hilux.

What is this? Hollywood? where such things happen. If you're a sniper, your eye stays on the scope. Your targets are on the ground. You can't afford moving them off, you look somewhere else then the target advances towards your position. Bye bye, go meet your buddies in hades.
The snipers spotter is supposed to be looking out for other dangers which is why they carry assault rifles instead of marksman weapons. Odds are if a drone did fly over the spotter would see it and they would relocate.

This is at the heart of the matter.

The depth of ignorance displayed by our politicians and even a few military decision makers is for me MIND BOGGLING.

The Super Tucano is an over inflated turbo prop plane with limited capacity and a DISGUSTING PRICE TAG fir very limited impact. You probably know it's not faster than a WW2 Spitfire.
A spitfire can't do half the things the Tucano can do.

My question now is what will come of the paveways? Will they just be dropped on terrorists until they are all gone or will there be some reverse engineering going to to develop a better PGM? Just dropping them seems like a waste to me.

Perhaps Nigeria is pushing to standardize mbt as a t72/t90? Would make sense imo. Then the Vickers could be converted to IFV (think along the lines of the terminator) or other support vehicles like recovery vehicles, bridgelayers, or Afghanskii style AA guns/IFV. That what I can think of ground vehicle wise.

Nigeria should mod some of these new mraps with a zsu 23mm aa gun and use that as a cheap ifv until a proper one can be developed. Its about time domestic production takes the front seat over foreign.

I think a good mix of Chinese and Russian equipment is best. Sourcing from one nation is a bad idea in my opinion. I do think Nigeria should have at least bought a couple J10 fighters though.

Also is Nigeria receiving any long range missiles with it? Iirc all Nigeria has is the pl9 which is a relatively short range missile.

Those mig 21are gone for good. Secondly, the cost of reactivating them is close to that of a new F7. Thirdly, China have stopped production of F7.
Gone as in sold or gone as in just in very bad condition? Hmm maybe locally try to get some flying again using parts scavenged off other airframes? Might be risky for the test pilot but if it works you are another step closer to developing in house air platforms. If those aircraft are just sitting in storage rotting away they are no use to anyone.
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by fufubear: 7:12pm On Jul 09, 2017
Is there any reason why Nigeria doesn't pull their old migs out of storage and send them to China for refurbishment and maybe an upgrade to F7 standard? Despite what some people say the mig 21 is a good plane and would have use flying interdiction and ground support missions for the NAF. Also would be a nice force multiplier for the jf17.

I mean if they were to instantly be refurbished today the NAF would have around 40 fighter jets Even if they aren't top of the line 40 combat capable jets would deter any local nation and possibly dissuade any African nation from doing anything. Not to mention you could double the amount of ordinance dropped on Boko Haram.

There were Nazi holdouts mainly on the east even after the official surrender. To many it was better to die than be left to the Russians.

There were more holdouts on the pacific front. In fact a battalion sized (depending on the source this can vary but there were a lot(I've seen as much as an entire regiment)) Japanese unit stayed in Indochina to fight the French and there were numerous former Japanese soldier in the Chinese civil war supporting the KMT. Now that last part is getting a little offtopic but there were still Japanese holdouts attacking US positions even after the war since their final order before the fall of an island was to fight as guerillas.

Source on the WW2 stuff? Never heard that before.
I don't have my books with me so I can't give a direct quote but here's a link.

http://www.airplanesofthepast.com/p51-mustang.htm

The story is the British needed more aircraft and the planes they were getting from the US they liked the most were p40s. Curtis was already having trouble supplying the US, China, etc so they could not increase production to keep up with British demands so the North American Aviation company was asked to produce p40s for the British. NAA said they would not produce p40s but something better instead and that's how the mustang was created.

That doesn't imply the hind is worse than the cobra though. For example during ww2 the British wanted more p40s but had to settle for mustang instead
