Odunayaw: ATGM is a pretty unnecessarily expensive way to take out a Technical no? Considering the sheer numbers of Techies you can deduce how much we will end up spending per contact. Anyway, how u put it now makes me understand you better. I'm not too sure if it's too expensive. You can pick up some old Hj-73 or Malyukta missiles for dirt cheap. The missiles dont need to be the most modern since the technicals are largely unarmored. They just need to hit their target hence why the obslotete Malyuktas or HJ-73s are my recommendation. Only issue I see is that the accuracy of the missiles are on the low side. |

Litmus: How did "TROOPS OF SPECIAL FORCES SCHOOL & 27 TASK FORCE BRIGADE INFLICT SERIOUS DESTRUCTION TO BH TERRORISTS"?
Boko came with 4 gun trucks and lost 5 man while we lost 4 men with 5 wounded. The maths doesn’t add up: Boko lost 5 untrained and cheap souls, rubbish individuals good for nothing for they were of no use to their parents, community, religion, Nation or planet. Nigeria lost 4 expensively trained soldiers, soldiers valuable both practically and socially to the Nation and the world. It would be great if the gun trucks were destroyed but I take it they were not since Boko lost only five men. Or were the trucks empty? Perhaps the article was written by someone in Hausa and coherence was lost in translation – article certainly has a quality and style too amateurish otherwise.
RIP Soldiers. Not denying that hyperbole wasnt used here but theres still the material loss and it's likely BH carry their wounded and some killed away. Imo the 9 AKs themself prove that's it's at least 9 KIA BH. |

allexpensive: Bokoharam tactics now is hit hard. Capture Ammunitions and fall out of the area. Gudumbali now under our control.
My question? Where did over 300 bokoharam go after the attack? If ISWAP can strike a whole local government, why can't the military on an offensive dislodge them out of their own location?
I'm only concerned about the stolen weapons. They're gearing up for something but who am I? Just a WC.
I have been under an intense fire fight with these bastards but as it is, what I have learnt is then know who they're attacking. They know these guys on ground are armed with riffles, gun trucks and RPG.
They come with grenade launchers, rocket etc. My question why is grenade launcher in limited use by our own? Proper usage of these equipments is also necessary too. My opinion is, find a way to put SF with some of these guys with limited coin experience.
I have been with MSF and came under attack at our temporary location. First thing you do is to spread out. Everyone knows the right place to face. Repelling the attack heavily with gun trucks, mortars from my side and GL from the msf. Maybe instead of more grenade launchers there should be at least 1 50-60mm mortar with each section? Its heavier so would suck to carry around but the increased range, firepower, and rate of fire would be a godsend. Anyone else think that's a good idea? |

giles14: why did the Nigerian army even discard the FN FAL for the ak47 AKM is more practical for the average soldier. The AKM is a little smaller and a tiny bit lighter. The ammunition is lighter which decreases the amount of weight the average soldier carries per round. The ammunition is also smaller meaning the average soldier can carry more. Equipping an entire army with full size cartridges is simply impractical for the reasons above. FAL is best used as a marksman rifle with a medium-high powered optic for a designated marksman where they can take better advantage of the stronger round and higher accuracy. |

ssaengine: At some point you just have to sit back, calm down and look at basic facts. There is no shame in calling out B.S, even if it comes from your own leaders.
“This is one issue –prototype helicopter that we are very much concerned about and we hope to have it on the ground very soon,’’ Mr. Buratai said.
Look at that statement, analyse it. Assuming you follow global military news, compare it to what you know about the defence industry. Go to sites likes Jane's Defence, look at how they report step by step on projects.
"Bell Helicopters wins contract to develop.....Bell begins design of....Bell to start test flights in October....Bell to begin manufacturing year end." Step by step by step, over a number of years that it takes to produce such a complicated system.
Now 2 months ago your Army chief says you'll have a helicopter on the ground very soon. Is it 10th generation stealth that no one knew about it? Do you recall many years ago on this forum when "Nigeria was designing & testing guided missiles/rockets".... what happened to them? There was lots of noise, 6 years later...nothing.
Unless I don't know what a LUH is, don't just swallow information without filtering it. You're reading way too much into what I said. Henry said that a LUH could be produced in the future. You said it's not close. If you dont believe what was said in the article that's on you. I simply posted a news article to prove that Henry isnt simply just pulling this out of nowhere. Since that was essentially your claim. With that said it's very possible that a helicopter prototype could be produced within the year and no news being reported on its developmental process. If the company producing it mentions nothing about it to the press it goes unheard of until its unveiled. Not everything is super publicized. For example the f117 nighthawk was unheard of for a very long time and I remember hearing nothing about the Tsaigumi until it was unveiled. |

jln115: Germany fought the entire world not just one country and if they didn't invade the Soviet Union they would most likely have conquered Europe.....They literally took on the entire world and almost won thanks to thier superior Defence industry and their much more advanced weapons. Nah they were successful because of perfect timing and gambling huge risks. Also France was woefully ill-prepared which shocked even the Germans. Honestly the war could have lasted less than a year if only a couple things were to happen. I get your argument though don't let my nitpicks convince you otherwise. |

kikuyu1: IS THAT SO? I did hear they were dropping the SCAR L but not the captured 7.62 NATO H version seen here with a Talib . I can only find wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_SCAR#Users There are at least 19 other users, btw. As of early 2015, the FN SCAR is in service in over 20 countries.[14] Btw,when the enemy uses your gear you're doing smth right! This must be an interesting story-you can see the sidemounted surefire and a laser target designator. Well I have not seen a SCAR either online or in person in ages. Of course I haven't seen every SF operative but it still seems odd to not see a single weapon. And imo it doesn't make much sense to take the SCAR H because the M14 is a more accurate platform. Yes the m14 is bigger so less wieldy but it's more accurate and it's made by an American company (actually a bigger factor than you would think the XM8 project was dropped for a couple of reasons but one big one was that it was a German weapon). It will serve its role as a marksman rifle better. |

RANKS MAY DIFFER SLIGHTLY BUT WE HAVE COUNTRIES SUCH AS USA USING THIS AS STANDARD FOR THEIR SPECIAL FORCES.MY FAVOURITE ARE THE FN SCAR,M16 AND THE AK47 US doesn't use the SCAR anymore and hasnt for a long time. Best weapon is also largely based on opinion. All first rate weapons are generally equal in performance. |

Iblawi1: Yes bro, even some NAF guys still believe we might still go for Apache helicopter. Seems there is huge difference BTW the mi-35 and Apache helicopter. Apache is a better dedicated attack helicopter. Mi 35 isn't bad don't get me wrong but it's a purpose built multi role so can't fit some of the heavier sensor or other electronics since it has to carry troops/cargo too. Personally I wouldn't go for apache though since anything from the US has extra strings attached. I'd go for Mi 28, Z10, or even the Rooivalk. |

Slight correction.
M16a4 is used by the marine corps. USAR and National guard combat support use M16a2 (at least I've never seen an M16a4). Everything else is on point.
Well National Guard is a little complicated because their procurement is different from federal soldiers. The state buys the weapons they want (obviously it's not a real variety of choices but it's still up to the state). |

persius555: If these guns can bring down the Su-25, I am wondering how the highly priced tucano will fare. Planes in general are fairly fragile when it comes to AA. Even the "flying tanks" like the A10, Su 25, and old IL2 are/were susceptible to good air defense. Don't let this persuade you that the Tucano will be easily shot down. With proper Intel the Tucano could kill the zsu truck from well out of range. |

Tinfoil: I know for a fact that this kind of criminal behavior would be prosecuted in the US. It doesn't work, leads to low morale, creates cycle of violence,.... Africaken please don't take things so personal, this is just an example of how bad things are in the Kenyan military. Crappy equipment, theft of monies, low morale, promotion based on tribe rather than merit, low pay,..... The soldiers and marines that fought for the US in ww2 were subject to physical punishment. I wouldn't say they have low morale or were any more abusive than any other nations standard soldiers (IE no SS, NKVD, Unit 731 etc). On the inverse side the soldiers today don't show any of those traits either. Both styles can work it's just how you see things that matter. Besides soldiers today in the US are subject to mental abuse (unnoficially that is lots of dumb rules are being put in place to make bct too easy) which is just as destructive as physical abuse. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by fufubear: 4:12pm On Jan 26, 2018 |
Tinfoil: This is barbaric, why do the drill sergeants have to assault the recruits. Professional militaries are able to train without physically assaulting their recruits, I wouldn't be surprised if the women are often rapped Just so you know. Physical punishment used to be a staple of US military training. Back in the day a drill sergeant was allowed to physically beat recruits (within reason of course). I'm not saying physical punishment is good and I'm not saying it's bad. That argument is actually still going on today with many older veterans saying it's better since it builds stronger soldiers while newer vets say it's unnecessary because it increases injury and is easy to abuse. To add on to this iirc Russia uses physical punishment of their spetznaz teams (not sure if it's any specific division but if I had to put my money on one I'd say it's Spetznaz Gru) |
