SuperSixSeven: 100% of their equipment came as loot from the NA into their hands.
Its not 100% don't forget there's more nations than just Nigeria in the fight.
Personally I have a hard time believing the 23mm comes from NA considering the 23mm doesn't seem to be commonly mounted on guntrucks in Nigeria. NA usually mounts DsHkm and QJC 88 on guntrucks and mraps. Are the 23mm bought from Lybia? Who knows could be could not be.
All I'm going to say on this topic is comparisons to the US don't matter because the US is operating on foreign soil. If the US operated on US soil I'm sure the same stories from Iraq and Afghanistan would occur here. We already have trigger happy police so why would our soldiers be different?
DubaiLandLord2: Nigeria's Security Challenge is no doubt a serious concern everywhere now with Banditry, Kidnapping, Assassination and Crisis across the nation. And this blowing scourge has shown that no one is safe anymore including our leaders.
This video of the country's Defence of Minister, Gen. Bashir Magashi carrying a gun himself, when he has tons of Army Officers around him shows that self defence may be the in thing in no distance future.
The Big Question now, is that if the Minister could carry Gun, what becomes the lot of many helpless and Defendless General public? Will they allow us to be securing ourselves too?
Tobiloba24072: I want to believe this write up...but what is ak 49? What is German ak 47? What's Apg?
And ak47 1.2 million naira, where there are surplus black market weapons lying around this market of the world? These few points makes me question the whole write up.
German AK is probably East German MPi-KM. The most easily discernerable variant being the KMS with its distinct side folding wire stock.
Sizzorkay: of course some areas are still cheap, but too far in, bushwick for example, but when i say cheap, a 2 bedroom will still cost you over 2k monthly. but some of the cheapest areas in brooklyn is East New York, i won't live there lol. it's crime ridden. sadly that's why most displaced black people go. places like Williamsburg is almost as expensive as apts in Manhattan due to white ppl overtaking the area and its close proximity to Manhattan you live in Chicago? the gun violence over there ain't no joke lol
I live about 30min - 1 hour from Chicago but I'm pretty familiar with Chicago. The gun violence kind of overstated in that its all in the same neighborhoods. Most of the city is actually really safe but those trouble spots are so bad lol. I think at one point more people were getting killed there daily than in Iraq.
Sizzorkay: lol it's actually is. i had to run away from crownheights wey i dey live before coz it's too expensive haha. a single room here before covid will run you $1,200 monthly. right now i dey pay $3,250 monthly for my apt. because oyinbo ppl dey invade black communities, and once they start moving in, blacks are displaced because rent will shoot up. it's why everyone here is talking about the gentrification of black and brown communities. because Manhattan is also too expensive for the oyinbos, so now they are moving into black communities
It depends on the blocks I'm sure. It's like that where I live in Illinois. There are some dirt cheap houses/apartments but they aren't in the nicest areas. It's not hard to find places under the average though.
I'm also kind of ignoring the current housing boom because that definitely won't last.
DubaiLandLord1: I don't agree with you. There is no way a soldier that have been trained well will suddenly forget those tactics during a firefight.
A well trained soldier that is not compose during a firefight has nothing to do with a fighting unit.
easy to say but that's not how it works irl. Most high level training goes out the window at first contact. Theres even a saying about this that goes something like "No plan survives first contact".
Lurker4Long: Let me try this again, as this is a battlefield discussion thread. Previously, I listed the reasons why I think the Super Camp Strategy (SCS) is not good and doomed to failure. Nobody offered counter arguments, yet people here continue expressing their support for SCS. So I'll change tack:
Other than reducing military casualties, what other advantages does SCS offer, operationally and tactically?
The purpose of the super camp strategy is to counter the ability of insurgents to overwhelm smaller outposts. Insurgents have the advantage when it comes to massing forces because it is easy for them to just move with the populace.
The supercamp is a tested strategy used against non state actors. The issue happening here is the NA did not realize (or did not properly plan for it) that this would mean the Frontline changes from the bases to the roads. Based on what I have been seeing, most of the casualties on NA units come from roadside ambushes and only recently have we seen some of these major attacks (of varying degrees of success) on bases.
So I wouldn't say the supercamp strategy is a failure but it's a failure of the NA to properly follow up that strategy with aggressive/constant route patrols.
ocelot2006: He was referring to the Type 56 as a whole. As for the OBJ006, a soldier friend I know complained bitterly about the rifle, claiming that the barrel tends to buckle/bend when it overheats in firefights with Boko Haram. Now I'm no soldier and I can't very this claim, but I have no reason to doubt his complaints, and if true it places our troops in unnecessary danger.
In all, I think a lot needs to be done. In the present age we're in, we should phase out some firearms, or better still improve of them. The nation needs to do better for our troops
Watch the video again. He specifically says the early Type 56s were fine but it was in the 90s after China started using type 95s and the US banned Chinese AK imports that the quality became garbage because there was no control over the quality anymore.
There were still some issues with some military rifles but they weren't design issues but quality control that came as a result of streamlining production.
As for the story you told it is possible that soldiers weapon is old and was improperly maintained (not his fault could be improper storage by the Army) or maybe he just got a bad rifle. The thing is even if he had an AK-12 it would have been the same because those issues aren't specific to the rifle but the production quality/maintenance.
ocelot2006: The last pic with the Major in a vest is a clear example of what's wrong with Nigeria. Billions have been released in the name of purchasing equipment, yet the Officer has not simple holster to tuck his service pistol in. I'm no fan of Senator Ndume, but he was absolutely right about one thing: our poorer neighbours have far better kit for the soldiers and security personnel. Our politicians claim to love our troops, but I see no reason why in the 21st century our basic infantry man is still armed by the OBJ006, a Nigerian copy of the Chinese Type 56, one of the 5 WORST copies of the AK47, according to Kalashnikov THEMSELVES! Even if we adopted the design, why still use wooden furniture when there are better composite materials. Plus no optics, nothing.
Abeg I'm tired.
Military grade Type 56s are actually good. The civilian variants are the ones Vladimir Onokoy said are some of the worst.
Stormtrooper11: U. S military doctrine implies the use of CAS to reduce resistance and most importantly reduce casualty on their side. U. S can overrun that gudzamala without airsupport
Any military could including NA but military operations aren't solely about just winning. You have to minimize your losses. Hence why the US army always calls for apaches or A10s.
IGpro1: you are the terrorist. ESN has never blown up churches or mosques or even kill a single civilian, only fulanis ravaging their territory. they don't go about making people renounce their faith or attacking innocent villages..
you this aboki boy, stop defending Mohammeds Religion of piss.
SamuelAnyawu: Does it have more impact than the DSHK? It looks too bulky tho
Its definitely stronger than Dshk but if the power is really worth it is up for debate. Dshk is honestly good enough for soft targets and if Dshk is not enough it's usually better to just go with 20mm.

Did the airforce hire professional photographers? These pictures are nice. Theres a couple more but these are the only ones I have time to post right now.
I'm of the opinion the army should have it's own helicopters but I think they should have mainly LUHs with Mi35 being the limit for an attack platform.
Organic airlift and air attack will decrease response time for air assets and allow the army to much easier sustain long range ops since they allocate their own platforms and not have to borrow from another service.
Airforce helos should be mainly dedicated attack platforms (Mi28, KA 50, Z10, AH64, etc). The sensors and weapons packages will help them utilize the platforms more effectively at interdiction.
komekn: There were claims that when the Chibok girls were abducted USA intelligence pinpointed their location. However, the Nigerian armed forces did not act on the information.
