InvestmentFG Commences Privatisation Of Nigerian Rail by funsho75(op): 6:19pm On May 07, 2015
Favour Nnabugwu
The Federal Government, Thursday, directed the Bureau of Public
Enterprises (BPE) to commence the privatisation of the Nigerian
Railway Corporation, NRC, and other railway facilities across the
country.
The National Council on Privatisation (NCP) gave the directive to the
BPE and the Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (NIAF), after
its council meeting in Abuja.
Director-General of the BPE, Mr. Benjamin Dikki said the decision
to reform the railways was borne out of the government’s desire to
avoid the collapse and eventual shut down of the railways,
generally regarded as a loss making but socially and economically
imperative to the nation.
According to him, “The funding challenges facing the future of rail
in Nigeria seems dependent on the efficiency and professionalism
which the private sector can bring to improve railway operations.”
“The railway reform, restructuring and privatization programme is
specifically aimed at achieving the provisional framework for
private-sector led growth through expanded domestic and foreign
investment; improve NRC’s ability to provide adequate, safe,
reliable and efficient rail services; and reduce NRC dependence on
the FGN budget by introducing private sector investment in the
sector”.
NIAF has committed to fund the consultancy for the development
of the roadmap and framework for the concession of the rail tracks
of the Nigeria Railways Corporation (NRC).
BPE in a recent meeting with NIAF during which issues relating to
the reform of the railways were discussed and BPE requested for
assistance. NIAF has confirmed its willingness to support the Bureau
in developing a Roadmap/ Framework for concessioning the Nigerian
narrow gauge railway network. It also indicated that it would
provide the proposed technical assistance at no cost to government
In 2005, the Bureau, through the World Bank funding, engaged the
services of CPCS Transcom as Transaction Advisers to advise in the
concession of the Rails. The firm had completed about 80% of the
assignment including the concession of the Central Railways
(Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri line which terminates at Ovu) and the due
diligence on the entire rail network before its contract was
suspended because of the proposed modernization of the network
which was to replace the existing network with wider gauge. Because
of lack of funding, the modernization project was shelved by the
Federal government which directed that the existing network should
be rehabilitated and concessioned to private operators.
The rehabilitation of the Railway system includes track spot renewal
of Lagos to Kano and Maiduguri to Port Harcourt lines, supply of 25
new locomotives to boost existing locomotive power base of the
corporation, upgrading of carriage and wagon workshops, re-
equipping the workshops, supply of service support, strategic
rebranding of the corporation, rehabilitation of stations and
marshalling yards.
It would be recalled that a new Railway bill which is one of the eight
reform bills recently approved by the NCP and Federal Executive
Council (FEC) is currently before the National Assembly for passage
into law.
The new Bill seeks to among others, repeal the Nigerian Railway
Corporation Act, 1955; provide the appropriate market design and
legal framework for the implementation of Government’s reform
programme; separate the roles of policy making, regulation and
operation; provide a platform for the introduction of private sector
concessionaires and promote competition in the provision of railway
services nationwide.
The Public Enterprises (Privatization and Commercialization) Act,
1999 scheduled the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) for
privatization and the National Council on Privatization (NCP) in
2002 approved that the enterprise be concessioned to private
operators to provide freight and passenger railway services using
the vertical integration model.

SportsChelsea Offer Mikel To Southampton by funsho75(op): 12:58pm On Apr 23, 2015
Chelsea are ready to offer midfielder John Obi Mikel to Southampton in order to sign the £25 million-rated Morgan Schneiderlin, who is also wanted by Arsenal.Arsenal currently lead the race to sign the France international, with Arsene Wenger confident the 25-year-old wants a move to northLondon this summer. But Chelsea’s potential offer could prove more tempting for Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, who may feel the experienced Mikel could be the ideal replacement for Schneiderlin. The 27-year-old has been with Chelsea since 2006 and has made 329 appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals in the process. But the Nigeria international’s game-time at Stamford Bridge has been limited this season due to the options Jose Mourinho has at his disposal.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: All Working Class Lets Meet Here And Help Other Unemployed by funsho75(m): 6:59pm On Apr 09, 2015
Icon4s:
I am a Geologist currently working in the Oil and Gas sector.

The period of job search is always the most challenging and trying time for young people particularly young men.

I give Glory to God for where I am today. But each time i look back and remember all my sufferings and challenges it just seems like a dream.

Infact i almost lost relevance even in my father's house bc i had no job so i had no say.
Even when i got a job bt bc the pay was little, i still felt miserable.

But something kept me going: My high self esteem and self worth

I graduated with a 2:1 in Geology abt 12yrs ago.
I prepared my CV immediately i got my statement of result before going for NYSC. I had d hope of securing a job before finishing NYSC.
I started practising GMAT and GRE immidiately i finished project defence while awaiting NYSC.

I used the whole of NYSC period to prepare for my job search. I believed i was so good and was bubbling with high hopes and expectations Cos i was scoring very high in the practise test questions.Infact i applied for jobs during NYSC and wrote NNPC and Shell tests bt was nt succesful (my first encounter with reality on ground).

I came out of NYSC without securing any jobs unlike what i expected. I started sending cv to different companies as they advertised. I wrote Oceanic bank, Diamond bank, UBA and was nt succesful though i got to d interview stage in 2 of them.

My first ever job came as a miracle at Accessbank. I was lying down thinking abt my life when my university class mate called me to come to Accessbank Toyin street Ikeja that they are looking for adhoc staff. I arrived their in no time. I got the offer and also contacted some of my other comrades in the struggle hu also got it.

It was a 1month job.The news of my bank job spread among my extended family and church members like wild fire. Though i didnt tell them it was a 1month contract job.We were paid off at month end and i was back home and hidding from people so they wont ask y i didnt go to work.

Next day i went to visit my girl friend (my wife today). I was still in her place when i received a phone call inviting me for an aptitude test and interview at an Oil Servicng company i sent my application to abt 2 months earlier. They actually requested for minimum of 2yrs experience bt i still applied without experience. I got the job! It was my first break through.

Employed as a trainee in 2005 with a gross salary of 33K was nt so bad to start with. Banks were paying GTs 40-70K then.

I knew my worth. I knew i was worth more than that. I now limited my application to major Oil and Gas companies. I wrote Elf test, didnt scale through the test stage. I wrote Shell and got to the interview stage. I wrote NNPC and got the job. Shell put me on stand-by but no message from them till date not even a regret mail.

I still work with the NNPC till date and not regretting it.

So job seekers know ur worth, prepare well and keep pressing.
pls can u help me with my industrial training. am a student of minng engineering at federal university of technolo akure ondo state. pls if uu can help me with what I need to do and how to apply.

BusinessThe Importance Of Bank Verification Number (BVN) by funsho75(op): 7:58am On Mar 12, 2015
THE Bank Verification Number, BVN, is another important step the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, is using to strengthen the security of banking transactions and to ensure that fraudulent transactions are minimised, if not totally eliminated. The campaign is on, but the public may not realise its importance until it closes in June 2015.

Yet as the public embraces the initiative with enthusiasm, it should be aware that some fraudsters are trying to undermine the exercise by providing seemingly easier registration options for bank account holders. They request these details online and threaten that the account would be closed if the owner does not provide them the details. Their target is the account holder’s money. The best way of enrolling remains direct communication with one’s bank.

BVN uses biometric technology to register customers in the financial system. It records these physical features which are unique to individuals – fingerprints and the face. The record would be used to identify the person afterwards. Once a person’s biometrics have been recorded, and BVN issued the account would be accessed through BVN. The major objectives of the initiative are to protect bank customers, reduce fraud and strengthen the Nigerian banking system.

Biometric enrolment is helpful to people who cannot read and write. Their finger prints and pictures would serve the same purpose as signatures. Multiple account holders would be covered with a single registration in any of the banks where they have accounts.

BVN will help the banking system reduce situations where loan defaulters, for instance, move from one bank to the other and the banks extend new credits to them, without knowing their history. Banks would be able to track transactions across all banks in Nigeria with more ease.

As CBN implements the BVN initiative, it has to ensure the security of the data, from rogue bankers and also importantly from damage, as has been the experience with other sectors that engaged in biometric enrolments. It should also create measures to punish banks that might exploit the information they have to blackmail customers with whom they have disagreements.

BVN is a great initiative that would reduce illegal banking transactions and improve national financial intelligence gathering. The interests of account holders should be accorded importance so that their increased confidence in the banking system would improve the financial standing of banks. Customers will use banks more when they know that their transactions are safe. BVN offers vast opportunities to protect customers, banks and the entire financial system.

The CBN should enhance the security of BVN to protect the entire financial system. It should be on the watch for technologies to keep improving BVN capacities.

PoliticsA Truth Most People Don't No About Buhari/post Election Violence In 2011 by funsho75(op): 11:56am On Jan 03, 2015
The presidency has begged former Head of
States and national leader of Congress for
Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu
Buhari (rtd) to settle out of court the libel suit
he filed against the Special Adviser to the
President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben
Abati.
It would be recalled that Abati had on page 51 of
the April 22, 2011, edition of The Guardian
newspaper, written an article entitled “For the
attention of General Buhari,” where he claimed
that Buhari made an unguarded statement which
stirred the post-election violence that almost
tore the nation apart.
The former Military General however, regarded
the publication as libellous, aimed at denting
his hard earned name and image.
Buhari consequently dragged Abati and The
Guardian Newspapers to court via suit no.
ID/837/2011, demanding N1billion damages from
them.
However, in a copy of the Terms of Settlement
filed before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, the
‘warring’ parties have agreed to settle the matter
out of court.
According to the terms of settlement, dated
December 2012 and filed before the
administrative judge of Lagos State, Justice
Opeyemi Oke, the claimant (Buhari), Mr. Tope
Adebayo ( lawyer to Buhari), Abati and Mr.
Kunle Sanyaolu (lawyer to The Guardian) signed
the terms of settlement. But the lawyer to the
first defendant (Abati), Dame Carol Ajie, refused
to sign the document. The refusal may not be
unconnected to the conditions and terms of the
agreement.
