Point of correction, no full POLYTECHNIC program is 4yrs. It was a program designed for 5yrs.
Back to the issue of discrimination, I believe It exist but have not faced any discrimination as a poly graduate. Discrimination is a thing of the heart, you bears the risk when you feel you're inferior. During my IT days, all the poly students doing their IT in NGC were well paid better than their university counterpart.

Another point is that, some persons went to the POLYTECHNIC not because they really love technology but because they were not able to secure admission in d university. Many of these people in d POLYTECHNIC are not self motivated coming to the POLYTECHNIC, you see them not even interested in lectures, some find a way to excape practicals, etc. Some interviewers are fun of asking this question "What motivated you schooling in the POLYTECHNIC?" That question only is to show whether you really know your 'onion' as a graduate from the POLYTECHNIC.

I'm proudly a POLYTECHNIC graduate, I rep The FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, Ado-Ekiti!
Once an Alumni. Great Polite!

My former boss in UAC attained the highest position you can ever think of(Full manager)with his HND in accounting(upper credit from Ado poly). Actually, government is adding more salt to the injury of all polytechnic students and graduates by not taking any measure against this discrimination. The truth is that this discrimination is uncalled for.Am a youth corps member in Ibadan. In my lodge here in ibadan,I have university graduates as colleagues and it is sad to note that only 2 out of 5 of them are sound academically. They are just too local and uncivilised. Can you imagine an Ondo state university graduate asking a question like this"how old are him and how old is they? With my ND then,I worked as an account officer in UAC for four years before going back for my HND.I trained so many university graduates on accounting job especially how to use accounting softwares for accounting work.I have to send one back to the head office because he couldn't even hold a mouse properly. To locate start key on keyboard was a problem for him let alone working on the system and the guy finished from FUTA.And there was another one who was looking for a recycle bin to restore a deleted number on a desktop phone.I even remember vividly that before getting work in UAC,I use to teach OOU and LASU students(including finalists) some courses..I even went as far as writing examination for them in exchange for cash. This discrimination ain't worth it at all and FG. Should be blamed for this.B.sc or HND,owo ni koko..Lastly,at my orientation camp,it was a disgrace to see statistics graduates with B.sc who doesn't know how to use just a simple SPSS.... Proudly federal polytechnic,Ede Alumni..
kudos to you Boss, am quite envious with the power of your grammatical license without any malapropism, but let me ask you some questions? Could you believe that environment and peer group speaks volume for success and eloquency of any children? Sequel to your epistle that you meant some student in your PPA causing grammatical blunders doesnt justifes that they didnt have something upstairs, it's your potiential that matter most cos there is no monopoly of wisdom, we re just using an ecletic approach. As you proved those corps members as a local champion samething may be vice versa to you too when you meet some intellectual collosus that graduated from University too. So don't draw into conclusion that you meant some Universities grads in your vicinity that most Uni grads are academically deluded..that is an argumentum ad ingnorantum.

Life is short and i hardly notice the rat race after all magot will still eat us up no discrimination there hehe. My sister is in uniben now she got 56 in pume but had to pay 80k to upgrade her score as a science student. I guess that makes her better than all poly science students lol. Its a bleeped up system. i passed them dont just assume mr man. I saw people i did better than got admitted into uniben because they paid 80k and my dad couldnt afford that at that time. My friend whom we wrote unilorin together i did better than him but he was admitted cos his uncle working in the school assisted him.
Bross am a student of UNIBEN and i really understands your plight, if you score very high in the postutme they will not denied you and moreover catchment area is another yardstick in most federal universities in determine admission cuttoff point..for example, i was once a victim cos i could remember vividly during my Direct entry Exam of which i wrote three times in UNIBEN just because i want to study ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING, and am a southwesterner . I was denied the admission to my favourite course twice all thou i was given Industrial Physics and Production Engineering for the two attempt but i thought my score was low where by my friends that scored less than me got Electrical once but they are from Edo and Delta state, to cut the story shut i tried it the third time and i performed excellently. Today am a bonifide Energy conscious student of UNIBEN..Bross, my candid advice for you is to be focus cos patience, perseverance and persistence there is profit in it. The world is meant for the optimist only pessimist are spectators. I never see my self as a second fiddle since my toddler till this moment, so brother kindly be focus and crystalline your goal cos the skye is your starting point.

Please, which of the Universities accept HND holder into 300level, what are their requirement, and is this advisable?
In Uniben Engineering faculty, you must have upper credit and above in both your ND and HND before they would admit you. if you have lower credit in ur ND and upper credit or distinction in your HND they wld admit you into 200L.while other faculty admit both ND and HND with a minimum of Upper credit above into 200l. In Unilag you must have distinctions in both your ND and HND.

EducationRe: A Guide For First Year Engineering Students In The University by Futurecrown(m): 9:04am On Apr 29, 2015
DaEngineernet:
You just got accepted into the University which is the college of your dreams? or that safety school? it doesn’t matter, you have decided to spend your next few years there to study engineering. However, you don’t have a clue what you are doing. You don’t know which field of engineering is right for you, you have no idea how difficult it is to find internships. How exactly do you get through your first year of college life as an engineering student? These are suggested steps that could guide you throughout your stay in college

1. Quit procrastinating

This is the most common vice that limits Engineering students in achieving their goals. As a student of this highly tasking discipline, you are going to realize that you have a lot less time on your hands. If you want your 4.0 GPA, to actually contribute to your club, to obtain internships in the future, to have time for your friends and time to yourself, time to have fun, and time to clean laundry – you need to quit procrastinating. Not only are classes going to get harder in the university, but you are going to have other responsibilities (perhaps even more important than grades) that will consume your time. In this discipline, time is very essential.

2. Explore the different disciples in engineering

Overtime it’s been proven that a lot of first timers do not know much about different types of engineering and probably have no idea which field is right for them. Those who know their engineering fields and are adamant that they want to be a chemical engineer may find themselves questioning their choice after taking organic chemistry classes. Regardless of your knowledge of the various types of engineering, it’s important to keep an open mind.

There are many factors to consider while choosing an engineering specialization: future job demand, programs at your college, your own interest, etc. Most schools offer introductory courses which can expose you to a few of the different types of engineering. We think the best way to find what is absolutely right for you is to be directly involved with engineering clubs, have a professor tell you about his/her research, or talk to engineering upperclassmen about their classes. The earlier you identify what interests you the better; this way you waste less time taking the wrong classes and have more opportunities to join programs related to your chosen field.

Remember that leaving engineering is also an option. University is supposed to expose you to all different fields, in addition to the different types of engineering. Perhaps you may find your true passion in medicine or even literature.

3. Choose your college friends

It is believed that most people can be happy in any school that they go to, provided that they find meaningful people as college friends. These people are going to grow with you and they will be very influential in your life for the next four years. Your first few weeks of college life are going to be filled with extremely friendly people. Take advantage of that. No other time in college will people be so open to meeting you. However, remember that the friends you make in the first weeks will not necessarily be the college friends that remain with you a few years later.

4. Seek out additional opportunities for growth

In high school, having a high GPA defined success (more or less). That changes tremendously in college. It is not to say that grades aren’t important, but that other parts of life will come into play. Landing an internship is probably more important than obtaining A’s in every one of the classes. Learning soft skills such as communication (by communication, I don’t just mean having the ability to talk to the opposite gender) will greatly expand your network of influential people. Speaking of networks, having a group of influential people around will help you greatly in your future. See what I mean? It’s no longer just about the grades; it's also about your reputation as a hard worker, your ability to sweet-talk an interviewer, and your desire to improve yourself.

5. Don’t dismiss other subject areas

Something that is common within the engineering community is that they think we're the best on campus. Engineering students then to think that they are the smartest bunch because our engineering predecessors invented the modern world. We think we’re the most hard-working because while the “arts and crafts” (A.K.A. arts and sciences) people are hanging out, we’re studying how electrons work. Don’t do that. It’s good that you invented the first flying refrigerator machine, too bad you didn’t listen to your business major college friends about how there is no market for that.

Lastly, going crazy after leaving home (forever) is part of the first-year experience. But don’t go too crazy. Remember, you only have a few years at a university, so be sure to make the most out of them. I’m not telling you not to have fun – by all means, your first year of college life is when you’re supposed to go crazy – but don’t make choices you’ll regret. There are a lot of opportunities, people to meet, and most of all, distance to grow; it’d be a shame to waste four years throwing ping pong balls around in a basement.

I guess u are wrong,am a staff in NUC and 4rm statistics we hv this yr in uniabuja,30% of d engineering fields chosen by by prospective student was chemical engineering,in futo it was 45%,in unilag it was 32%,in UNN,since they dnt offer chemical engineering,d % was much on mechanical(48%),Uniben 39% and so on. So i think most preferable is chemical enginnering cuz of d huge salary received by people workin in oil companies
Dude, your ascertion was wrong as regards to Uniben, the most sough after Engineering in Uniben is Electrical followed by Petroleum,Mechanical.Chemical came distance 4th.

There are many schools studying engineering but there are those more equipped, enhanced and have got better teachers than others.

This rank is based on different areas that make a school that studies the course engineering:

1. FUTA, ( Federal University of Technology, Akure. )
The school is really aiming high in terms of the technological and digital aspect of developing her students, in the school. They are also ranked first in COREN data list.
