Unilorin a federal university has 15k hectares. Since 11k is too much. I guess Uniabuja alone shouldn't be cut to size. So when is your Oga FG going to strip Unilorin of its land or that doesn't count since it's not prime?

How are you sure there is no immediate need for it? What if within the next three months the FG starts developing that place? What will you get to say then? The land has been with the university for almost 30 to 50 years and they have not done any single development on that land. Are you aware this is Abuja, the FCT. Development has to happen rapidly, and one university cannot be allowed to hold down such a large expanse of land even when they have no immediately or future need for it. Ask the University what plans they have for that land in the next 100 years and you will be shocked that they have none. You people just like to support Rubbish. Just because you hate a man doesn't mean you should always condemn all their good initaiatives.

Even if the university wants to build a housing unit for staff and students, the remaining 4000 hectares will be more than enough, and they will still have enough barren lands. Unless they want to go into commercial agriculture, they can require that large expanse of land. But our university lecturers are so lazy, they lack creativity. So they should keep shut.

Appropriate such large expanse of land to a university where the university still leaves those lands undeveloped is wrong on all levels. Did the university buy the land, the land given to them by the FG, and now the FG is taking a large portion away from it. So what is all the noise about? I never said any University in Nigeria grabbed land. The lands were given to them by the FG, and the same FG still owns those Universities. In my opinion, no Nigerian University deserves that portion of land.

For one, we have no evidence that he allocated 2000 hectares of land to his sons. And secondly, in a city like Abuja, the capital of the country, I do not think the University deserves to have that large hectare of land.

As I said earlier, the reason why universites in nigeria have excessive land needs is because housing in most nigerian cities is not enough to sustain the large numbers of staff needed for a university.

Yes, European and some american unis have small areas...but looking closely, there is enough housing within their host cities to comfortably accomodate the students, and staff, and if there isn't , transport links like railways exist..so a student can live two hours away, and take a train to and from his campus.

NIgerian cities do not have that luxury, which is why most of them are situated on large land masses, expecially the older ones. When UNN, ABU and OAU were set up for example, all the towns they were set up in were not large enough to accomodate students comfortably. So, large land mass to build accomodation for staff and students from scratch. Same issue with Uniabuja...it is just that the money has not been enough, otherwise by now Uniabuja would have been a city on its own.

Still, Abuja has grown over the years, so it is likely accomodation is 'better'...and the government no longer builds housing for staff....maybe that's why Wike is so bold to do what he did...but the thing is, universites still need space to grow.
