EducationOau Students' Union Leader Unjustly Suspended By The School Management by Fynestboi(mod):
Obafemi Awolowo University suspend Student union leaders (The president, General Secretary and PRO) 6 semester and 4 semesters respectively, this suspension is premised on the saga between the Students' Union and Prof Y. K Yusuf of English language department. Nevertheless considering the saga, it is still not a strong justification to suspend Union leaders, that only have two months away from concluding their programme.

If you know someone that knows someone closer to someone that knows someone closer to someone that can help these students, their stay on campus is about to be elongated if the suspension stands. Help us say no to victimization of Union leaders.

This is from one of the suspended union leaders (PRO)
IMMANUEL KANT SPEAKS
OUR SUSPENSION AND VICTIMISATION : A BULLET IN THE HEART
Great Ife,
It is with utmost sense of responsibility that i write to inform the general public at this period.
It is imperative to appreciate the multitude of Great Ife Students who stood and are still ready to stand by their union and union leaders even in the face of the seeming oppression. I also take the initiative to appreciate the multitude of students who supported me with prayers during the course of my illness. Your prayers worked wonders.

The widespread rumour needs authentication or debunking. Sequel to the suspension of union activities, the invitation of some union leaders to an investigative panel and the re-opening of the university. I must confirm to you that TRUTHFULLY OUR STUDENTSHIP HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED FOR SEMESTERS (4 Semesters and 6 Semesters) respectively .

This decision was said to have been made at the recommendation of the panel that was set up by the University administration.
It should be noted the silence of the leadership of the union was not borne of fear or cowardice but due to the uncertainty that surrounded the rumours. The confirmation came hours ago.

It is important to inform the public that our suspension was premised on Professor Y.K Yusuf saga but even the foetus on OAU campus knows that our suspension was borne out of something deeper.

We hereby use this medium to call on well meaning Nigerians, students, organisations to see into our cause as the three of us involved, the President, Secretary General and PRO are 2 months away from completing our programmes.

PoliticsAn Open Letter To Donald Trump by Fynestboi(op): 6:29pm On Jan 20, 2016
0PEN LETTER TO DONALD TRUMP
I humbly toggle the key of my phone as an African, a proud Nigerian and a keen defender of the rich cultural heritage of what the word ‘’Africa” stands for. Truth cannot be taken away from your staunch criticism of African nations especially Nigeria where I proudly hail from.

Your attack on Nigerians taking job meant for hardworking Americans is a fallacy of the highest order; most jobs done by Nigerians are menial jobs. Blame the welfare policy of your country that encourages laziness amidst your citizens, than pointing accusing fingers at innocent hardworking Nigerians. The man you saw in Alaska was a tax paying citizen, and not involved in any shady activities, how can just one man in a whole state take the job meant for your citizens? Your statement is buffoonery of the highest degree.

Illusionary promise to make America great again is laughable, from the words of Chinua Achebe of blessed memory: when things fall apart the centre holds no more. I need not remind a man of your calibre on the precept on which your country was built: liberty, equality and freedom. This cannot be achieved when you decide to rule on the line of hatred. You will be destroying the foundation on which America was built as the greatness of America lies in the diversity of its culture, tradition, race and religion. You are gradually calling for the fall of America with your incisive statements.

Laziness does not reside in the marrow of Africans as you’ve asserted, you need to take a tour of Africa to really appreciate what it takes to be hardworking. If hard work is the yardstick to measure wealth, an average African would be a millionaire.

“You can’t give what you don’t have” says a popular witty saying. One of the characteristics of a leader is the ability to love and instill love in the heart of its followers; this characteristic is the watchword of revered American leaders like Lincoln. I wonder where the leadership training you offered to give African leaders will be coming from as you did say that Africa needs a century old recolonization. You lack the temperament to accommodate people of diverse origins, how competent are you to even colonize a country like Nigeria(which is JUST one of the FIFTY SIX countries of Africa)with diverse languages, ethnic and religious beliefs?

It’s naive and insensitive to label Africa a good for nothing place. You ought not to judge people by the colour of their skin, religious belief or gender, but by the content of their character. Africa is a land flowing with milk and honey, beautiful landscapes, rich in mineral resources, don’t need to educate you more on this ,I recommend you take a course on Africa studies to learn more about the sunny continent. I don’t need to say more about the achievement of Africans in sport, literary and technological world. Majority of laurels won by America at global sport fiestas are won by Afro-Americans.

Even though the corrupt leading leaders of the largest continent on Earth has helped the International Communities with the bad tagging and worst naming of the honey flowing nation, but much more Africans have contributed invaluable quota to the development of mankind, even the developed country of yours. Generalizing and hastily concluding, out of a “nanocosm” fraction of the population, that Africa is best unwanted and worst unnecessary is nothing but a thought of a sage-thirstless desperate divider and such must not have been thought of by even a teenager not to talk of an aspiring world leader.

I wish you success in your campaign process, my candid advice is to value human and human relationships irrespective of their colour, race or religious belief, it’s our diversity as human that make the world a nice place to be.

EducationBetter Welfare Condition Or Stable Academic Calendar by Fynestboi(mod): 7:35pm On Jan 18, 2016
BETTER WELFARE CONDITION OR STABLE ACADEMIC CALENDAR?
After the university management callously sent students home for 40 days, most students have been wondering whether it is sensible to still continue in the struggle for a better welfare condition at the expense of a stable academic calendar. It is therefore imperative to give it a critical analysis. Such feelings, I mean the feelings of complacency or despair are quite expected after a popular cause was strangulated by both a vicious management and reactionary Union leadership. Of course! When students are just coming back from home, after a-40 day break forced on them, especially when such break coincide with the yuletide, we should not expect less.
We must not be too quick to assert our position on this very critical question. We must first digest the real cause of welfare condition and unstable academic calendar. Funny enough the problem of students’ poor welfare condition and unstable academic calendar have the same cause – the unscrupulous attitude of the university management and the negligence of the education sector by the federal government! While it is understandable that the root cause of these problems, as well as myriads of other problems battling this nation is in the brutal system of capitalism that continue to make the ruling elite richer at the expense of the struggling proletarians. The university management and the ‘big belies’ in the government are products of this oppressive system. To expect less from unscrupulous elements is to stupidly dwell in a world of illusion. It should be noted that even after the much needed departure of the vice chancellor and other corrupt officers of the university management, it still does not imply the end of our calamity, as other oppressors will emerge. It is safe to assert that the university management in the bid to cover up their corrupt practices are the real cause of unstable academic calendar, the last school closure shows this with absolute clarity.
Some students have been made to believe that protest of students is the cause of unstable academic calendar. It then becomes important to ask what is the cause of students protest? Karl Marx, the greatest thinker of the 20th century, once said that social consciousness, thoughts and ideas are products of social being, that is, real life circumstances of interaction of man with man. This position is evident in the Students’ protest of November 2015, which was not instigated by mere rhetoric or chemical malfunctioning in the brain of Great Ife students. There was no way a situation of complete blackout and erratic supply of water would not generate reaction if it lasts for a day – talk less much of lasting for several days without the readiness of the authority to take action. After all students are not animals – In fact, George Orwell confirms in his popular novel, “Animal Farm”, that animals would react to unpleasant conditions. The cause of students’ protest is however due to the unacceptable living and learning condition of students coupled with the obnoxiously increased fees paid by students and the oppressive character of the university management. In as much as the conditions that necessitated the protest of students are still in existence, then it becomes apparent that we will still experience protests, unrest, instigation in the coming period – irrespective of the name the authority gives the reaction of students to horrendous conditions.
An effect will always have a cause! To solve a problem one must tackle the cause, if the university management is interested in solving the so-called unrest of students, they should eliminate the cause of this unrest, instead of repressing dissenters. If victimisation of activists or students’ leaders would stop protests or students’ unrest, then OAU students would have stopped standing against injustice and oppression a long time ago, especially after the suspension of Anthony Fashayo. But here in OAU, we have brilliant youths who understand that silence is the needed fertiliser to make suffering thrive.
Having understood that the cause of the horrific living and learning condition of students and the unstable academic calendar is the university management. It is also necessary to understand why the question of whether students should abandon the struggle for better welfare condition for a stable academic calendar is critical and important. Every generation, they say, out of relative obscurity discovers its mission, either such mission is been fulfilled or betrayed depends on them. It is a known fact that most of the things we enjoy on campus – peace, freedom, lecture free week etc., including the fact that the school is still accessible to most of us in terms of the amount paid as school fees, though outrageous. One must remember the heroic days of IWILADE AFRIKA, whose decision to ensure that OAU campus is peaceful and non-violent cost him his life, a peace we still enjoy till now. The generation of 1999 students that stood against the unjust increment of fees from N500 to N10,500, we still enjoy the bold decision of that generation today. What about the generation of the ‘ALI MUST GO’ national struggle of 1978, there are countless stories of how different generations of OAU students made bold decisions to stand against oppression and exploitation. The year 1983- 1985 when Lanre Arogundade a former secretary-general of the students’ union and then president of NANS led countless struggle against the oppressive military regime, the days of Adeola Soetan are still unforgettable. The present generation of students that enjoy lecture free week are grateful to the 2007 generation of students under the leadership of Akinola Saburi. These, no doubt are generations that took bold decisions to show that authorities can be defeated. A decision not to betray their missions, a bold decision not to jettison the fate of the future generations because of personal interests or eagerness to graduate from the university. A decision not to concede the struggle to the masters of falsehood but to hand the spotless banner of struggle down to the future generation. Our generation must not throw the spotless banner that was sustained by the blood and sweat of our heroes away.
The struggle against poor welfare condition is a fight against exploitation, oppression and victimisation; a fight against ‘Omoleism’. It is a fight for freedom! If one posits that the struggle should be abandoned for a stable academic calendar is to embrace silence, then it is tantamount to embracing slavery. I am not an advocate for an unstable academic calendar but an advocate for a stable academic calendar, which is the reason why students must understand that unstable academic is a product of the callousness and greed of the university management. And it must be opposed.
The question whether the fight for a better welfare condition should be abandon for a stable academic calendar is to ask whether we should forsake freedom for slavery! Conceding to stable academic calendar is a trick of the university management. The university management are the real cause of unstable academic and thus want students to yearn for a stable academic calendar in order to rob students of their fundamental rights. We must not be fooled!
It should be noted that a stable academic calendar is possible only if the demands of students are met. If authorities close down the school because of students protest, then it becomes apparent that it is only when the university management concede to our demands that we can have a stable academic calendar. We should not forsake the future for our personal interest, just as our past heroes did not forsake our present for their own greed.
OUR DEMANDS ARE NOT OUTRAGEOUS
The demand for a better living and learning condition is not outrageous. In fact, in ideal societies, such demands should not even be demands, but rather the basic rights of students. Learning should not be made a crime! If one write a story on the lamentable condition of the hostels and lecture theatres such story will have no difficulty hitting top on the genre of tragic stories. The state of the school facilities – library, laboratories etc – are pitiable.
The unjust suspension of Olawale Owolabi OGUNRUKU, a student of the faculty of education that was placed under suspension since 2011 is condemnable, the university management stab common sense in the head by suspending a student for participating in a struggle (2011 anti-acceptance fee hike struggle). It is necessary to add that it was the same management that obnoxiously increased the acceptance fee from N2, 000 to N20, 000 that suspended a student for saying no to such irrational increment!
The ‘Tale Omole led administration should not be scared of being transparently probed. If one has nothing to hide one should have nothing to fear. Since the Vice-Chancellor has little or no financial contribution to the treasury of the school, then every tax-payer and school fees payers have the moral and legal right to demand explanations on how the funds are spent. Overpriced and white-elephant projects that are widespread on campus – for instance, the N500 million swimming pool – are grounds that should definitely arouse suspicion of a thinking human being. It should be a normal thing for every public office holder to be probed.
The demands, in better words, rights of the students should be met; we are not animals. I have heard FELA speak of animals putting on suits and even ‘agbada’, but that is just a qualification, a nice adjective I must say, meant for people that have no regard for human rights. The university management should give to us what is rightfully ours!
WHAT IS TO BE DONE?
It is only reasonable for the leadership of the Students’ Union to have come out with information on the progress of a struggle that was initiated from a Congress of students. Their silence has not only affected the Union, but it is also digging a deep grave for the leadership who would be isolated and dealt with if they flee from students. Great Ife students are not selfish, vicious people who would turn their back on their representatives; it is only hoped that these representatives do not turn their back on students and themselves in particular. If there is any other period for a Congress of students to be convened, it is at this point, when students have to rescue their Union from the grip of the University authority. FOR A CONGRESS OF STUDENTS NOW!
ALUTA CONTINUA! VICTORIA ASCERTA...

EducationFor Jambites: Time And Environment Management During Examination by Fynestboi(mod): 1:44pm On Jan 17, 2016
TIME AND ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT DURING EXAMINATION

Scholars have argued that poor time and environment management in examinations are part of the reasons why students miss it out yearly.

Time is the measured or measurable period during which an action, process or condition exist or continues.
Environment is the circumstance, object or condition by which one is surrounded.

Examination has been proven to be one of the toughest and yet better period for students at any level as it is the time to get assessed on how much the student knows. To some students examination period is the best period of the year they are always awaiting, to some it is the period they pray to never come, to some it is normal as every other period; however no matter how a student sees examination, it is a challenging period for every student as during the limited time, limited or confined environment of the examination, a student gets to report on what s/he had 'unlimited' time and free environment to access and learn.

UTME being an external examination brings forth different results for both the brilliant and average student.

Some brilliant students fail to perform excellently in external examinations due to the environmental factor, as some are not used to learning not to mention writing examination in 'strange' environments. Similarly, students perform poorly in examination s as a result of poor time management.

Prior to the examination as a student preparing for examination :

While studying try to create an environment that will be similar to the environment in which you will take your examination, research shows that information locked into the state of consciousness in which it was learnt. It means that, the mood, or state we study is the mood or state we should be in during exam time so as to best remember the information studied.

And if possible, as an external examination try and get familiar with your examination environment, prior to your examination date. i.e you can leisurely go to your examination centre just to know it and get familiar with it, you have that picture in head.

While studying, revising, answering questions on your own set time limit for yourself. If possible set half of the time you know you would be given in the examination and see how far and how well you can go. Calculate how much time will be spent on answering the questions.

Prepare yourself psychologically for anything that happens before or during examination, as students who lack psychological strength break down at very little frustration.
And the examination hall, avoid all distractions, relax. For those scared of crowd see the environment as your little closet where it's just you, your books and reading table.
During the the examination, avoid wasting the 'exam-time'. Utilize every second well.

Moreso,

It is pertinent to know this interesting thing about the relationship that abounds between time and environment.

A perfect environment management is only as a result of effective management of one's time. So the perfection of your time management makes environment management easier.

Take note, your environment cannot exists without a time, neither can your time exists without an environment. So both work Hand in hand, hence time properly managed will influence your environment.

No matter how intelligent or brilliant you might be, your incapability to have a good time management is concomitant to the opposite of been brilliant and intelligent.

My description of time https://www.nairaland.com/1487308/fynestboi-university-life#19000300

Time is a unique, unrenewable resources.
It marches onward at a rate of 60minutes every hour.

No one is Immune to the relentless, unforgivng passage of time..

Everybody on the planet has ownership of 24hours per day.

We all receive the same allotment of time every day; each new day brings with it, an automatic deposit of 24hours into our "time account."

Time has no division to mark is passage, there is never a thunderstorm or blare of trumpet to announce the beginning of a new month or the end of a year.

How and where we invest our time determines our success, career path and productivity.

Time really cannot be controlled, you cannot slow it down or speed it up. It just is what it is; time.
If time posses all the above, how then can I manage her during exam?

Firstly, I want you to put in mind, that examination is to test how smart you can apply what you have read, most especially UTME, So how prepare you are firstly gives you an edge, and your ability to manage your time is another edge, both put together will deliver to you outstanding performance.

It is expected of you to have cover all aspect, don't leave any aspect untouched, UTME is an objective exercise and not essay, so all topics count, having done the above, the next is how to bend time to your own advantage, as you cannot slow her or stop her.

If you truly want to bend time to your advantage.

1.Never let time, take you for granted, so as to have available time left to crosscheck your work before submitting...

2.Don't given room for distractions...

3.Have it, in mind that there are different set of questions. (the easy ones, tactical ones, strict(hard) ones,) you don't waste time on the strict ones when you have the easy ones that won't in any way pose any threat to you. In this case it is safer to start with the easy ones, to the strict ones and you end it with the tactical ones.. Why? The tactical ones appears cheap, but they demand proper rethinking before concluding on an answer, so it's advisable you put those as your last attempt, while you treat the easy and strict one, however strict questions are easily conquered using elimination method, as they are just to test how wide you have read, and your level of preparation and how wide you have read will determine how strong your elimination method will be.

4.Don't spend more than a minutes for a question, if a question is taking more time from you asterisk such and proceed, you can always come back, or you see clues in the next questions.

If the 4 is in place then leave the rest to God.

If you dont have a stable time plan, then you can't be a good manager of your environment. However the only disadvantage your environment have for your time is distraction, as clearly stated in the first part of this write up. .. Moreover, distraction can come in different ways. Nevertheless to avoid any distraction you will need to prepare ahead against any from of distraction.

What can distract you.
-Weather: distraction is when you are feeling cold during examination.
- Food: distraction is when you are either tasty or hungry, or feeling uncomfortable As a result of eating to much.
-Lateness: coming late is also a distraction.

If these distractions can be avoided or reduced to the barest minimum by preparing well for unforseen situations, then you have not only effectively manage your time but you have become the manager of your environment.
