The Students Union, Obafemi Awolowo University took to the street of Oyo state as its joins in the celebration of Nigeria at 55 to peacefully expressed its displeasure at the non payment of workers' salaries accross Nigeria especially in the Osun state and Oyo state. the Union and its members who despite in their period of examination came out en-masseto protest the poor funding of educational sector, have demanded that President Buhari to implement the 26% budgetary allocation to education as recommended by UNESCO.

Members of CEC were led by Students' Union President, Omotayo Akande (TY); Students' Union Vice-President, Oladunjoye Opeyemi(Oprah); Students' Union Secretary General, Oketooto Oluwaseun; the Union's PRO, Ojedokun Emmanuel (Immanuel Kant) and; the Union's Welfare Officer, Hamzat Olajide(Secrenene).
Two buses were used to convey all individuals present.
The Student Union President, Omotayo Akande took center stage to give a welcome message. He spoke on the reason for embarking on trip which was a two-way motive trip: to pay a condolence visit and embark on a protest. He further enlightened all students present on the order of programme for day.

He stated that there would be a protest at Ibadan to pass messages to the Governor of Oyo State through the media houses on the poor welfare conditions on Obafemi Awolowo Campus and the non- payment of salaries by the State Government despite receiving various funds as bailout for the disbursement of these monies.
This was a welcome idea by everyone in the bus as they all abided by the President's plan.

Along the way, the Union's President threw a question and opened the floor to all students in the bus to bear/lay their minds bare on certain intellectual discourse as pertaining the Independence day celebration.
His question was titled, " 55 years of Nigeria's Independence: Is Nigeria truly 'Independent' or 'neocolonized'"
As a preamble to the discuss, the President spoke on the unpaid salary trend, Ministerial listing, political party Ideologies and EFCC's recent recovery of stolen funds. Attempting to be comprehensive in his approach, he spoke on the HDI(Human Development Index) factor fashioned out by Europeans in order to measure a country's growth in totality of all areas. The criteria he mentioned for this HDI Measurement were just three: Gross Domestic Product(GDP), Life Expectancy and Literacy. He spoke on how developed countries could only attain 0.9 out of a 1, noting that 1 is the highest while stating that developing countries fluctuated between 0.1 and 0.2. Bringing home his argument, he spoke on the collapse of some parts of Block 4 in Awolowo Hall of Residence, the ever dwindling welfare situation on campus;he however justified these reasons in his preamble to the argument. He finally called for submissions, stating that Education was the only way out of Nigeria's socio-economic,Economic and political mess.

A submission was given to further press home his point by one of the students. Which agreed to the ever glaring fact that Education is the only solution that can be used to tackle any problem. Proper planning and the right intellectuals are all that is needed.

To conclude the argument, Omotayo Akande called on Adebayo Benjamin, ACJ's President to speak on the effect of neocolonialism and the role of the press in the whole process.
Laying Credence to the book, "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa," the ACJ President advised that as students,we should erode underdevelopment and fight for what is ours, adding that Education is our only way out.

The Union's President pleased with the trend of the arguments, pushed for an Aluta praise and worship Session that was heralded by the Two versions to the Great Ife Anthem. Lots of songs were chanted to praise the Greatness of the University and the generality of the Students.

However, when "TY" came back on stage(inside one of the buses), he observed that some of the students could not "gyrate" as they should and he stressed the need for everyone to be able to "gyrate" properly.

Immediately the buses arrived at Iwo road in Ibadan, protest placards and handbills were quickly distributed as a massive protest started in earnest.
All students, engaged in a protest blocking the traffic as they marched down to NTA Ibadan on foot, followed by the two buses at a slow pace inhibiting the flow of traffic on the way.
Interviews with the President, Vice-president and other notable individuals in the Union were taken by ACJ Correspondents.
The protest continued at NTA Ibadan but the media house proved to be obstinate and unapproachable as they refused the Union say even after the roads were blocked to attract their attention. An ultimatum was given with immediate effect. It was after much cajoling that the Union were finally given audience and a live coverage. The President of the Students' Union, Omotayo Akande spoke first, conveying his message to the Government in English after which Oketooto Oluwaseun relayed his in the Yoruba Mother tongue.

The protest moved to the National Union of Journalists(NUJ),Oyo council secreteriat in Ibadan where the Union was warmly received as their press statements were taken before another media coverage was given.

CelebritiesACJOAU:Interviews With The Daughters Of Late Mrs. H.i.d Awolowo by Fynestboi(mod): 8:47am On Oct 03, 2015
INTERVIEWS WITH THE DAUGHTERS OF LATE MRS. H.I.D AWOLOWO.

ELDEST DAUGHTER OF H.I.D AWOLOWO

Can we meet you, ma?
My name is Omotola Oyediran Awolowo. I am the Eldest daughter of Hannah Awolowo

What can you say about mama?
We all miss her and the best we can do is to be united and strong.

What can you say about the numerous visitations to this place?

It has been overwhelming.

What is the message for anyone that wants to emulate Mama H.I.D Awolowo?

Work hard, be disciplined and stand by your vision.

What were mama's legacies?
Baba(late Pa. Awolowo) and mama lived and worked together. Baba always took mama's advice.

DR OLATOKUNBO AWOLOWO
(Ambassador to Netherlands 1999-2003)

What is the Key to development?

Education is the key to development. It was South Korea's breakthrough. In 1961, South Korea's GDP was 75 dollars while Nigeria's was 2000 dollars. Now,South Korea has actually superseded the Nigeria of today.
Education is the way, just keep advocating for it

Do you miss Mama?
Yes.We miss mama's wise counsel and influence. Its only days, she has been many things to this family. There is no doubt there is a vacuum but therein lies courage. We will try to keep the vision

Independence message?
Policies should usher in the change we desire.

Do you think the current situation was something Pa. Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo had in mind?

People being anxious to use Baba's intention is a good start. Wherever there is a disconnect, point it out to them.

Words of advice:

The focus of their actions and whatever they do should be on developing Nigeria. "Man is the sole purpose of the Government," that was baba's usual saying.

Serving as an ambassador, what ways can Nigeria be rendered in Image?

In 1999, Nigeria's image was down. I got to Holland with that stereotype. What I did was to showcase the best parts of Nigeria and Africa's cultures, and organize week long cultural events. With that, people realized that there still exist good people who want the best for this country. All they need is the space to shine.

What do you think of the New President?

For the current youths, he is the people's choice. Baba gave governance everything he had. This is the major reason that matters most. He wasn't in a haste as he learnt from others.

The interviews were conducted by ACJOAU correspondents-David Adetula,Omole Isaac,Olaoluwa Joseph, and Mr. Isamotu.

Signed:
Adebayo Benjamin(ACJOAU President)

EducationPolice Uncover Body Of Paul Erie, AAU Abducted Lecturer by Fynestboi(mod): 5:15pm On Oct 02, 2015
The Edo State Police Command on Friday said it has uncovered the lifeless body of a lecturer of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Professor Paul Erie, who was abducted by kidnappers, three months ago.

It also said it had arrested five persons suspected to be members of a criminal gang, one of whom “confessed to the kidnapping and murder” of of the lecturer.

Those arrested, according to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Stephen Onwochei, and made available to The PUNCH, were “Awulu Sam‎son aka SASEKI, Lucky Owuadegbe, Jeremiah Amayo, Chucks Edobor and Stephen Usiagwu.”
The late Professor of Agricultural Economics was kidnapped by suspected hoodlums on June 16 at about 7:45pm along Agbor-Uromi road, by Igbanke village in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, and taken to an unknown destination.
His prolonged absence had sparked protests from the AAU chapter of Academic Staff Union and his family members who had earlier said his abductors had demanded huge sums of money as a ransom to release the victim.
It was learnt from unconfirmed sources that the gang had killed the associate professor, buried his remains in a bush, and later collected an undisclosed amount as ransom.
But the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Stephen Onwochei, explained that late Erie’s corpse was uncovered, after one of the suspects led a special intervention team, initiated by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, to the shallow grave where the remains of the professor was exhumed.
Onwochei said, “He (one of the suspects) volunteered and led police pathologist, forensic experts, detectives, family members and the press to a bush at Igbanke village on October 1, 2015, at about 11pm, where a shallow grave was identified and successful exhumation of the suspected remains of Prof. Paul A. Erie was carried out.
“Items recovered from the grave and scene are consistent and suggestive that the remains are indeed that of Prof. Paul A. Erie as identified by family members.”
While expressing the condolence of the command to the aggrieved family, the police spokesperson, however, noted that the command had begun a manhunt for three other members of the gang who were still at large.

“It is worthy of note that three out of the eight suspected kidnappers are yet to be arrested but the command assures the family that it will leave no stone unturned until the suspects at large are arrested and brought to book,”‎ he added.

We found the body of the woman inside one of the buildings affected by the flood.”

EducationEkiti Students Protest Fee Hike, Fayose’s Policies by Fynestboi(mod): 8:25pm On Oct 01, 2015
Students in Ekiti State on Thursday trooped to the streets to protest against high school fees in state-owned institutions.
Acting under the aegis of the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union and the National Association of Nigeria Students, they said the policies introduced by Governor Ayodele Fayose were anti-masses.
They carried placards with various inscriptions including, ‘Ekiti Students Pass Vote of No Confidence in Fayose’, ‘Primary/Secondary Education Must Be Free in Ekiti’, ‘Ekiti Bursary, Nothing But A Scam’, ‘Blackout in Ekiti State University’, ‘College of Education, Ikere Ekiti Fees Must Be Reduced’, and ‘No To N50,000 Acceptance Fee at College of Health Technology, Ijero’.
They said they chose to stage the protest on the 19th anniversary of the creation of Ekiti State to send a message that all was not well in the state and to kick against “bad government policies” in education sector.
The protest caused a huge traffic snarl at Ijigbo roundabout with some officers of the Department of State Services on hand to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the protest.
FESSU National President, Peter Obayemi, lamented that students no longer had access to bursary from the state government, accusing officials of the state scholarship board of underhand dealings.
Obayemi claimed that he was detained on the orders of a top government official over his agitation for the payment of bursary to Ekiti students at the State Scholarship Board.
He said the student bodies would no longer tolerate intimidation by any government official, no matter how highly placed, saying the Fayose-led administration had already declared war on students by its actions so far.
Obayemi said, “We should let the whole world know that Ekiti State government has neglected students. They organised Education Summit and they refused to invite students and instead they invited artisans, okada riders and market women.
“We are saying no to privatisation of public schools in Ekiti. We reject all sorts of fees that have been reintroduced in public schools.
“Government used to pay WAEC fees for students; this government says it will no longer pay WAEC fees. We reject all these anti-student and anti-education policies.
“Many students have lost the joy of being admitted to the College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero Ekiti, as they were unable to pay the N50,000 acceptance fee before the deadline.
“The Ijero College of Health Science and Technology is the only school in Nigeria paying such an outrageous acceptance fee of N50,000 that is non-refundable and this does not guarantee their admission.”
A NANS executive member, Oluwabunmi Aduloju, condemned the detention of FESSU boss on the order of the state government for agitating for the students’ bursary.

The defendants, who were arraigned on a three-count charge of defilement, rape and assault, were alleged to have committed the offense on October 26, 2014.

The case was later adjourned †to October 19 for cross examination.
