Dayo Amusan is a very popular actress in Nollywood. She told Friday Treat why artistes live what people called ‘fake life’ and also expressed her thoughts on young ladies running after married men. SEGUN KASALI brings excerpts.

What role did you play in the series ‘Alagbara’?

First and foremost, this is not the first time that I will be working with the Adebayos and having been called up on this particular project called ‘Alagbara’, I was awed when I saw the script. I am someone that sees myself going deep into stories that tell what is happening around us generally. I mean, stories that we can relate with on a daily basis. Seeing the script, I was very impressed. Of course, you will agree with me that my father ( Oga Bello) has been there for years and doing well. Even after I saw the script, I was called by him asking how my programme was and that he would like me to be on set.

My experience on set was a blissful one because I realised that a lot of planning had been put in place even before production and you would all agree with me that if we didn’t plan, automatically we were planning to fail. In terms of time spent on set, I really had enough time. It was a beautiful shoot.

Has Oga Bello ever done anything that got you angry on set?

I think I am the one who would say that I have actually done one or two things on set. He’s a very disciplined person and for those that know me, I am a very playful person. So, sometimes I over play and he would be like, ‘Dayo, we are on set’.

So, what character did you play?

Okay. Based on the script, my character had to do with one of the ‘Alagbaras’. I was one of the women in the stories woven around the ‘Alagbaras’. And you would now imagine how I was able to influence a whole customs officer, the boss himself. He was a well disciplined, married custom officer and how a young lady, who wasn’t married, but yet, wormed her way into his life. I think it’s a movie that a lot of people need to see, especially men. Sometimes, you might think you have a way of getting away with things or you are disciplined enough to say no, but when it comes to women, you can find yourself saying yes.

What new projects should fans be expecting from you?

I think my role in the movie is what should be looked out for. The director had a way of bringing out the best in me on that set and my character is that of a calm lady. My director was able to put me through that character and I don’t think I have done something that is that calm before. For me, it’s another side of me.

Nowadays, most young girls believe it pays to have numerous boyfriends if they want to get married. As a role model, what’s your advice to them?

For me, just like Daddy Bello said earlier, the platform of social media should give an opportunity to the users, which I think majority are kind of misusing now. For me, I don’t think having numerous boyfriends gives one opportunity to have a perfect guy because that can lead to confusion at some point. We are all unique in different ways and if you are having numerous guys at hand, automatically one way or the other they will have their uniqueness, weaknesses and the same time, have their strength. So, it might put you in a confusing state, picking who you think is right for you.

They also believe that dating married men is the way. Do you also subscribe to this and if not, what’s your advice?

To be frank, I would not say that we don’t have young girls dating married men because it means I’m not being realistic but I will not encourage any young lady to do such. As a public figure and what I stand for, I will not encourage a young lady chasing after married men. It’s not something I will encourage the youths to see themselves doing.

Actresses live fake lives. How does it affect the few of you that live within your means?

Well! I don’t see any big deal about any artiste going up on social media living a particular life because it’s called showbiz, you have to show for the business to grow. You have to package and brand yourself and you have to make people see you in a way to want to associate with your brand. So, if that’s what you mean by fake life, I disagree. First and foremost as artistes, we live in a make believe world, which means 80 per cent of what you would see out there is make believe. It is totally different from our personalities. I might be at home and choose to tie wrapper and drink garri. That’s me. If I’m coming up on a social media, I may not want to do that because you might be disappointed. So, when we try to make you believe some things, it doesn’t mean we are trying to live fake lives. It is what our fans want to see and hear that we give to them.
