Politics / 2027: Wike Vs Tinubu by Gabrinoz: 9:17pm On Feb 28, 2023
My thoughts of all Wike's antics, his ambition is to challenge Tinubu.

After this election, Atiku obviously will be retired, Wike will then "retake" back his "PDP" muscling every other member of the part or buy the ones he can.

Politics / The Power Of The Kitchen by Gabrinoz: 7:30am On Oct 15, 2016
Believe it or not, most decision/policy in the family, institution, govt etc., are emanates from the kitchen. The kitchen is the most powerfull place in the house, kitchen discussion are very powerfull and go a long way in affecting our daily life. When oga meets madam in the kitchen and madam makes a request, 90% of sure request is granted.

I have in being to occasions, were l see big politicians relegate to the kitchen with their wives and cronies to discuss state/political matter.

Do not underestimate the power of the kitchen cabinet, especially where madam rule. It very obvious that our madam is not ruling her KC and that's what oga is telling her.

Caleboha:
If 3.4 trillion naira has been recovered these things shouldnt happen;

1. Sharp decline in monthly federal allocation to states. Most states are walking very tight ropes. Unable to pay salaries. I am presently owed 5 months salary. Last month only a meagre 281 billion naira was shared. Throughout the last regime, it never fell below 340 billion

2. Rising spate of unemployment. Most federal and state parastatals confess they are truely under staffed but cannot employ due to lack of funds. Blaming lack of funds for inability to function is the new norm

3. Businesses are daily being crippled as the economy suffers from lack of sufficient activity in the small and medium scale sectors; drivers of the economy. Without cash for capital, this segment of the economy goes weak.

An account needs to be given before expenditure.

4. Desperate moves to obtain loans from the world bank and China. This should clearly be uncalled for

5. Hundreds of projects have been halted and hardly any commisioned in the last one year. All the contractors allude that the government is falling short of the terms of the contract.

6. Move to increase taxes on all levels without commensurate improvement on the execution government's social responsibility to its citizens

Feel free to add yours. Just facts, no abuse

Buhari must realise that freezing the whole system and trying to control everything will make him ultimately fail.

Saving up cash or funds is the crudest means of wealth creation. If that is Buhari's plan or idea its a shame! Of what use is 3.4 Trillion if Industrialisation is at a halt, capital projects stalled, standard of living on the decline, Salaries and lawful entitlements of citizens unpaid.

Politics / What Nigeria Needs Now, Is True Federalism by Gabrinoz: 3:33pm On May 16, 2016
What Nigeria & Nigerians need now is to push for True Federalism. NLC, TUC, Civil Societies, NANS etc. its time we have a massive action via a bill/lobbying/protest-in any form from this bodies to push for TF.

Nigeria with its current structure cannot hold & will never hold. There are too much diverse opinion from each region or state on how Nigeria can work, and each region or state will not accept the other, so the best thing, that can make Nigeria work is to allow each region or state, work with their own opinion/beliefs/laws etc. in which ever way they can govern themselves, but with the principle of True Federalism.

Politics / State Start Building MegaStations by Gabrinoz: 2:56pm On May 16, 2016
In my candid opinion, state and LGA should start venturing into the downstream of oil & gas sector. If every LGA or very close LGA runs at least two filling station, it going to create employment (direct & indirect), force down the pump price and also increase her IGR.

I stand to be corrected, there is no LGA in Nigeria that does not have the financial capacity to build a minimum of two 6-pump filling station, in three years.

Opinion:

This is an avenue for state & LGA to improve their IGR. I do not see any reason why state/LGA cannot invest in the downstream.
State/LGA can build tank farms, filling station which they can run with PPP arrangement, this will create employment and drive down the price for PMS, DPK & AGO.

Politics / APC Governors Move To Implement Manifesto by Gabrinoz: 1:47pm On Feb 17, 2016
Party sets up 10-man caretaker committee for Adamawa chapter

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unveiled an initiative that will assist states under its control to actualise most of the promises made by the party during the 2015 campaigns.

The governors said the move to deliver on manifestos had become necessary based on the conviction that the party’s electoral value would depend on how well it keeps faith with the commitments made to Nigerian both at the federal and state levels.

The governors operating under the aegis of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), unveiled the plan at a donor’s coordination meeting held in Abuja with some selected development partners.

As part of measures contained in the strategic action plan, the PGF recommended that a special technical team be set up in each state headed the Senior Specialto the governors to monitor and track the implementation of those promises.

It enjoined the governors to strive to address the challenges of skills mismatch and try to fill the gap created by inadequate strong artisan labour in the construction sector.

Some of the core premises includes; creation of three million jobs per year, health care for all, urban renewal and housing, tackling poverty, keeping Nigeria safe and sports and culture, among others.

In a position paper issued by the secretariat of the PGF, the state governors were tasked to do more to affect the lives of their people being that they are closer to them.

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State urged the development partners to be mindful of the fact that: “The state of the economy of the country is also a reflection of the sum total of the economies of the states.

“We know that we must do more to pact meaningfully on our people and doing more could not b more tasking at a time of declining economics growth.but we also believe that you, our development partners have a rich intellectual and resource base that can enable us weather the prevailing turbulent economic storm.

“We recognise that the PGF is a partisan organisation, we are by no means asking you to project such partisan alignments beyond your regular programmes and support initiatives towards the overall benefit of Nigerians,” he said.

Part of the engagement with the development partners would be to attract financial and technical assistance needed by the state governments to fast-track the execution of projects and programmes that would impact positively on the lives of the people.
In another development the party leadership yesterday in Abuja inaugurated a caretaker committee to run party affairs in Adamawa state.
The 10-man committee headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal was approved at a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) held at the national secretariat in Abuja yesterday. APC had recently witnessed an internal crisis at the Adamawa chapter following the death of the acting chairman, Yamusa Shuaibi.

The late Shuaibi had filled the vacuum left by the former state chairperson, Senator Binta Garba, who was leader of the party but left when she became a senator at the federal level.

While inaugurating the committee, the APC National Secretary, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, enjoined members of caretaker committee to that they work with harmony to consolidate on the gains so far recorded by the party in the state.

‘’As a political party and in line with our constitution there should be no vacuum and we have capable hands that can lead the state. In line with the relevant article of our constitution. We hereby inaugurate you as members of the NWC of our state chapter in Adamawa State,’’ he said.

In his acceptance speech the acting state Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal, said: ‘’We are happy with the situation, we will not bring shame upon APC in Adamawa.

‘’APC has bestowed trust in us and we will not fail. APC has done well for us in Adamawa. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) is from the state, we have two governors, so what else do we want. We will remain united and focused and by God’s grace we will not fail you.’’

The 10-man caretaker committee members also included Samaila Tadawus, Vincent Musa, Saidu Maira, Muhammad Audu, Monday Audu, Ibrahim Abubakar, Gambo Bakare, Hauwa Koma and Abubakar Dan-azumi.
Politics / Stop Granting Waivers To Dangote, Stallion And Others- Customs Boss by Gabrinoz: 8:15am On Feb 15, 2016
The Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali, on Wednesday in a submission to the Senate Committee on Finance said that big companies like Dangote Group and Stallion had no need of waivers.

“if the big companies are given waivers, is it the smaller companies that should then pay custom duties?”

Ali, said waivers should be discontinued for big companies to allow other small firms to grow.

Investigations revealed that the abuse of waivers have been routine over the years in favor of some business leaders and politicians in a manner that has continued to undermine the nation’s economy as they issue fraudulent waivers to themselves and their associates.

Other beneficiaries of these waivers at the expense of millions of tax payers are Chief Mike Adenuga, and Alhaji Saminu Turaki, former Jigawa State governor.

The administration of former President Jonathan granted a N50billion waiver to the Stallion group to import rice into the country, Per Second News gathered.

A senator speaking under the condition of anonymity revealed that the Federal Government has lost billions of naira that would have been used for provision of infrastructure and other contending needs of the downtrodden masses to the granting of waivers to business.

The Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria Limited (ALSCON) got N477.789million and N13.71million as waivers despite not producing since 2007.

Energy Resources Management Limited incorporated on June 18, 1999, with Mr. Jide Omokore and Richard Idowu as its directors also got waiver to import 250,000 metric tons of rice.

Investigations also reveal that in 2005, then Governor of Ogun State, Mr. Gbenga Daniel had applied to President Obasanjo for “import waivers” of N500million on vehicles meant to be imported for the 15th National Sports Festival tagged “Gateway Games 2006” in Ogun State . The Presidency immediate approved the request. However, rather than use the waiver for its purpose, it was allegedly sold to Globe Motors.

A major automobile dealer was granted N698.177million for importing fully built four-wheel drive motor vehicles, motorised tanks and other armoured fighting vehicles.

In 2003, losses suffered by government from concessions in the name of waivers was N12.4billion and in 2004 it climbed to N56billion and the Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa command lamented the loss of N6. 6 billion in 2013 to what it described as duty exemptions, concessions and waivers granted to certain organizations, between January and October 2013, which accounted for about 4.6 percent of the total revenue collected in the period under review.

Under me, your money will be safe - Buhari

April 4, 2015

A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Okwesilieze Nwodo, has urged Nigerians to have faith in President Muhammadu Buhari and give him time to implement his campaign promises.

Mr. Nwodo told newsmen in Umuahia that the president needed time to formulate policies and execute programmes to tackle the myriads of socio-economic challenges currently plaguing the nation.

He said: “The president came in with tremendous goodwill. It’s not easy in the Third World for an opposition party to defeat a sitting government.

“So for Buhari to have done that shows the measure of goodwill he came to office with.

“Secondly, I believe that what he promised our people was something that was timely; I’m of the PDP but that government had reached a point of impunity.

“The level of impunity is being shown by the investigations that are going on indicating that we needed somebody who promised us that he was going to fight corruption and to bring sanity to government expenditure.

‘’I’m one of those who believe that no Nigerian should go to bed hungry and that this country has enough resources to feed us and to provide enabling environment to achieve our God-given talent.

‘’But when government’s resources are so plundered as they have been done by other administrations, you can see that the waste in governance has made it impossible for Nigerians to reach their manifest potential.

‘’So when a president is coming on board and promises that he is going to fight corruption and people voted, so these are the two big credentials that the president came on-board with.

‘’They are not things that can be achieved overnight. The problem is that we have suffered so long that Nigerians have become impatient.

‘’They want to be removed from the fire they are in today by tomorrow but government doesn’t work like that.

‘’It takes time for policies to be formulated and to be implemented, so what I want to plead with Nigerians is to give the president time.

‘’I believe he has brought in a solid team of ministers to help him and this is the time the work now starts.

“Let’s pray for him, let’s wish him the best and hope that he will be able to fulfil those promises he made to us.’’

Mr. Nwodo also canvassed the need for the Federal Government to implement the report of the National Conference, saying this would help to reduce social tension in the country.

He further said that the report of the conference, if implemented, would enthrone and strengthen true federalism in the country, saying that Nigeria was currently practising a unitary system in a federation.

Mr. Nwodo also said that true federalism would ensure competitiveness and self-reliance among the federating units, adding that under the defunct regional system, the regions and the country fared better.

He expressed regrets that the sharing of monthly allocation from oil revenue had discouraged the states from harnessing other natural endowments.

Mr. Nwodo, a former governor of Enugu State, urged state chief executives to look inwards on how to enhance their internally generated revenue.

He commended the current efforts of the Federal Government toward reviving the moribund refineries and building new ones.

The country, he said, would continue to experience scarcity of petrol as long as it relied on importation to meet local consumption.

Mr. Nwodo, who was conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Science degree by Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia on Saturday, advocated the setting up of Education Trust Fund at the state and local government levels.

He said that such an initiative would complement the Federal Government’s efforts in tackling the infrastructure deficit in public schools in states and local government areas.

By Emmanuel Ugwu in Umuahia

President Muhammadu Buhari has said it will be a pipe dream for anyone to nurse the hope that Nigeria would be counted among the top 20 economies of the world by 2020 if export of crude oil and gas remains its main source of revenue.

He stated this at the weekend in his address at the seventh convocation ceremony of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), noting that the nation could no longer afford to continue foot-dragging on the quest to diversify the economy
“For our nation to become one of the world’s largest twenty economies by the year 2020, emphasis must be placed on the agricultural sector of our economy,” he said.

In the address, which was presented by the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anthony Anwuka, Buhari stated that it was not an inordinate ambition for Nigeria, which is Africa’s biggest economy to aspire to be ranked among the first 20 in global economy.
However, he was quick to point out that the realisation of this dream of Nigeria becoming a major player in global economy would largely depend on “the good quality and high standard of education we are able to give to our children that will assure us of a better Nigeria in the future.”

According to him, the nation has abundant human and natural resources as well as institutions that have demonstrated that possibility of the nation’s growth potentials, citing MOUAU which “has continued to grow in leaps and bounds, especially in the past four years.”
The president, who is the visitor to MOUAU expressed delight at the level of development recorded by MOUAU, saying, “the giant strides recorded by this present administration of the university in terms of academic expansion and infrastructural developments are very commendable.
“The on-going infrastructural developments in the University are quite commendable. They could not have been achieved without prudent management of resources,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Professor Hilary Odo Edeoga, said MOUAU had fared better under his administration, reeling out monumental achievements in infrastructural development, academic expansion, provision of facilities, staff development and student welfare programmes, among others.

He said that the university has applied to very good use the opportunities offered by the federal government’s interventions such as tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and NEEDS Assessment, adding that management has also achieved a lot using internally generated revenue (IGR).

“Our resole and historic target therefore will not diminish from ensuring that the graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike will not only bear true emblem of professional competence but also manifest self-confidence, resourcefulness and moral strengths that contribute to significantly to building a truly great Nigerian society of our dream,” Edeoga said.
However, he urged the visitor to release take-off grant for MOUAU, which has not been received 23 years after its inception whereas the other two Universities of Agriculture at Makurdi and Abeokuta such grants had long received their grants.

Earlier the pro-chancellor and chairman of council, Professor Anya Oko Anya, stated that the university “has accomplished so much in terms of infrastructural development in so short a time through prudent management of its meager internally generated revenue and allocation from government, especially from TETFUND.”

He equally appealed to Mr. President “to demonstrate his usual patriotic magnanimity by approving a take-off grant in favour of the university,” adding “we stretch most grateful hands to receive from a benevolent father.”
