Supersweet foods, such as those containing refined sugar can lead to spikes in insulin levels which, in turn, can lead to fluctuations in blood sugar.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, has directed that drug tests for hard drugs should be conducted on urine samples of policemen before they are allowed to handle firearms and lethal weapons. This decision was initiated due to the extra judicial killings of civilians by members of the Police force, especially at check-points and other public places.


The drugs test is to make sure that policemen are mentally and emotionally fit to handle weapons and not use them indiscriminately.

Mother declared brain dead: Shao Ziyan gave birth to healthy twin boys two months ago. On Wednesday, April 13, the 21-year-old was declared brain dead by a Zhejiang hospital, China, after a short battle with acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP), a rare complication of pregnancy, for some fifty days.

AFLP is a rare condition that affects 1 in 15,000 pregnancies, and normally occurs in the third trimester.



In a act worthy of emulation, Shao’s family members decided to donate her organs, which have gone on to save four lives and help two people regain their eyesight.

“Donating my daughter’s organs will let her life continue in another form. It’s like my daughter’s still alive and has never left me,” Ziyan’s father Shao Wanhua said, describing why he made the brave and praiseworthy decision.

Shao’s husband Chen said he will let the twins take two surnames, taking both their father’s and mother’s family names, to commemorate his wife. According to CCTV, people have been donating money to the family to provide support for the motherless two-months-old twins.

Whatsapp is now rolling out its new text formatting options including bold, italics, strikethrough and any combination of these. The basic text formatting was first tested in WhatsApp’s beta channel in mid-March, but is now rolling out via official Play Store updates. From what we can see it should be working on any version from v2.12.535 and above.

Much like other apps that support formatting text, you simply add a symbol to either side of the word or phrase you wish to format.

To bold something, add an asterisk to either side of the word: *bold*
To italicise something, add an underscore to either side of the word: _italics_
To strikethrough something, add a tilde to either side of the word: ~strikethrough~
You can combine any of these options together simply by adding the relevant symbols to either side of the word or phrase

When you receive messages from someone with the latest version, their name will be bolded in the notifications shade and the formatting of the message will also show up. For those that are wondering, the latest beta channel WhatsApp update just added a quick reply function, multiple selection capabilities for chats and contacts and solid color wallpaper options.

In a move reminiscent of Twitter planning to expand its character count, Instagram has announced that they are rolling out full minute video support on their popular social media app. While video capture is nothing new for the food-and-yoga-stuffed social network, users were previously limited to 15 seconds of video per… gram. iPhone users will also get an extra perk in this update, as users will be able to take multiple files from their gallery and stitch them together in a rudimentary video editing subfunction.

The reason for this alteration? Instagram says that video engagement has been up 40 percent in the last six months, and that people are craving more and longer videos. The timeline for this rollout is “soon” and it’s part of a year-long revamp of the app. We’re not quite sure what’s in store for this app in 2016, but we’re looking forward to seeing what Facebook (who owns the platform) has up its sleeve.

Gionee launches W909 flip phone with dual 720p displays and 4GB RAM

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Gionee has unveiled two new handsets this week – the Gionee W909 flip phone and a super mid-tier S8. While flip phones might not be so popular in Western countries any more, there’s still demand for these handsets in China, India, and other Asian markets.

Leakers and benchmarkers have been prognosticating the W909’s specs for a while now and it turns out that there’s some pretty reasonable hardware packed into this clamshell. It might just give the Samsung SM-W2016 a run for its money. The Gionee W909 features two 4.2-inch 720p LCD displays and is powered by a mid-tier octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 SoC, which features eight of the ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores and a Mali-T860 MP2 GPU. Gionee has paired this up with 4GB of RAM and a generous 64GB of internal storage, complete with a microSD slot should you need it.

The W909 also boasts a 16 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. There’s a USB Type-C port on the bottom, a fingerprint reader on the back, and a reasonable 2,530mAh battery. Unfortunately the phone only runs Android 5.1 Lollipop and not Marshmallow, with the company’s custom Amigo UI on top.

While not quite a top-tier device in every department, especially when we compare it to mainstream flagship phones, there’s some notable hardware here. The W909 has also opted for a faux leather back and some reasonably slim bezels to try and win consumers over on its looks.
