wirinet: Remember democrats did not win with a clear majority. The Senate is 50 - 50 and hold only a slight majority in the house. Also remember Trump pgathered 73 million votes. So the democrats cannot disregard Republican voters and concerns. they can on important policy issues like the $15 minimum wage, the infrastructure bill and Medicare act which have high approval ratings even amongst republican voters, it is just that democrats are a party of divided loyalties and that will be their undoing |

wirinet: The Republicans would certainly make it a huge issue. In fact that might be the only talking point going into the mid term elections. Tucker Carlson and Fox news would not talk about anything else. If the Republicans can support Trump to hand over the kurds who actually helped them to defeat ISIS to Erdogan, you think it's ordinary translators that the Republicans would care about. I wonder why some democrats and even Biden to an extent pander to republicoons that weren't elected to lead in this dispensation all in the name of bipartisanship! If democrats fail to achieve more goodwill from the American public this time, they'd only have themselves to blame. |

Hamas has started their attacks again on insrael and they have been met with airstrikes what came first? The chicken or the egg? I see Jewish ultranationalists parrading in your headline, you do understand that of itself that qualifies as a valid provocation of the Palestinians right? |

AmazonTopaz: I beg to disagree,America says it is a nation for human rights and says it is the shinning beacon on a hill.
Do you know if asylum is part of what they agreed to in the deal they had.Even the troops welcome the idea of evacuating these people.
I see no reason why they shouldn't be assisted when they did same for America. Why should America abandon such an ally if they do so now they will never be taken seriously again.
They should be evacuated because they were paid doesn't mean they should die. What was America doing in their country to begin with?since they didn't win the war they after these interpreters have risked their lives for them and the Taliban is still not annihilated the least America can do is to help these people out.
Some people are given added advantage when it comes to seeking asylum for different reasons theirs should in no way be different.I am not even talking about an asylum because that process is slow people are calling for an evacuation to Guam temporarily because once those troops leave they will be haunted and I don't think in 2021 Biden will want that on him. my point exactly |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by GalaticHorde: 8:21am On Jun 16, 2021 |
manshot: Think of it this way. Just because you were an interpreter for the US means you derseve asylum automatically?I dont think so. The interpreters knew what they were signing up for. And also they could even be killed while even now that the US hasnt left so it is not a matter of the US leaving is why they are still alive
However they were paid for their services. Interpreting for the US in a war agaiant the taliban. And moreso, they should even be in their hundreds. They should also go through the normal process of asylum seeking if they have a genuine case and not giving them an added advantage just because they worked for the US Military because they never worked for free..They were paid and therein comes the hazards with it too
My small take think of it in terms of storage of future goodwill, yes interpretation was a job for them but a life threatening job that makes them and their families targets if they are left behind after the U.S withdrawal, what incentives does that provide for locals in future conflict spots to corporate with the military if they have a history of abandoning those that worked with them in the past? |

AmazonTopaz: I have no serious issue with the Biden administration but I feel when it comes to foreign issues they are not getting it right.
I am not referring to America's relationship with it's allies I am referring to how it is handling Afghan interpreters who are currently seeking asylum..
Biden can just evacuate these people who have risked their lives and could be haunted by the Taliban once troops leave.
In 1975 Biden was against evacuating Vietnamese interpreters I hope he has had a change of heart to evacuate these people and their families or if America ever goes to war with any nation nobody will risk their lives to serve as interpreters for them.
I disliked how Biden handled the Isreal-Gaza conflict and I don't like the bureaucratic process this is taking for those interpreters.
Guam was trending.Biden can evacuate these people temporarily to Guam before American troops leave.
He is getting his foreign policy wrong except it's relationship with it's foreign allies I see nothing to commend when it comes to foreign policy.
Time will tell I hope he evacuates them and the republicoons don't make a big issue out of it. The abandonment of the Kurds to Turkey by trump is still fresh in mind |

Hope and faith are very important for patients, it gives them the will to live until their predicament is solved. There is hope and false hope. The vaxx is whats being pushed out, the nature of scientific breakthroughs is that they need to be peer reviewed, unless the makers of this drug are making this accusation that their achievements are being suppressed in favour of the vaxx I really don't see your point here, if it works, it will pass through a probationary period and get the universal approval it deserves, there is no conspiracy here as things don't need to work according to your timetable |

DissTroy: I already mentioned this place is an echo box. The back-and-forths are really about trying to humiliate the other person if you can and defending yourself not to be humiliated.
It's about blind, seething hatred based on nothing but different political ideologies. On Twitter, it's not even this vile. People with opposing political ideologies agree to disagree.
It's not even about the insults. It's common knowledge that I can take insults in stride and inject my antagoniser(s) with vitriolic venom of a gazillion times those they shoot at me and would stand tall at the 'crime scene', daring the mods to do their worst. No, it's not about the insults. The insults are amusing at best and I wouldn't fail to take you to your Mental Hades if you direct insults at me, even a thousand years from now. It's the hate which transcends the arguments to real life.
It's about the fact that one party would refuse to admit the other party made a valid point because they think doing so makes them lose.
It's why one party would think Biden should be crucified for the state of the economy in just 3 months of resuming office while the other party thinks and asserts vehemently that, of the 4 years Trump was in office, not even one - a single one - of his administration's policies were good. Not even the Covid-19 payments made to households. Not even one.
This place/thread is an echo box. I thought it made sense so I was very active on it towards the end of last year but when I truly saw it for what it truly is, I occasionally pop in or make a few comments.
Interestingly, both parties make points but do not want to learn. Or think admitting ANY seeming good in the other is a betrayal of their political stances.
Same thing applies in Nigerian politics; Regardless of what the APC or PDP does, it's evil or good only if it's from the party one identifies with or hate.
It's why most of you here have declared you'd never work with or do a favour for a Republican. Not because she or he doesn't merit the position but because your political ideology dictates she or he must be your sworn enemy.
Even the EuroSoccer Subsection is more dynamic. People agree and disagree about Chelsea, Man. United or the players' performances, and their opinions vary with the performance of these players or outfits per game or over time. So why can't you admit one good thing about the other political party or its candidate? It's because you have been conditioned to hate and be vile.
And that seething hatred and bigotry makes you no better than the racist, homophobic and xenophobic people you lampoon daily. well, you aren't wrong, in all the arguments it will seem hate has finally managed to seep in and all we can do is be on guard and reject it by growing up one day at a time but the truth is that it isn't easy, especially when you are being given reasons to succumb to hate on a regular. There are/were older monikers on this thread who would oppose you aggressively, banter with you, exchange digi-missiles and still invite you for a get together in the real world afterwards as it was all nothing personal but now, well let's just hope for better |

basilico: Where is the conspiracy in that or do I not know what a conspiracy is?
Its a fact that media will not report on those wonder drugs efficacy, that article by the way is two weeks old. It should be news now if a drug can rebuild the covid-19 damaged lungs to 100% And serious patients on the verge of giving up are discharged within a day.
where is the conspiracy? Something your media sources have not reported. note I quote sources many times. . and please tell me, where is the conspiracy in not reporting it if it has not gathered global acceptance yet? Looks like it is the job of the manufacturers to convince the global medical community of the claims they are making and not the job of the media to market their claims as facts. When something especially a medical breakthrough is too good to be true it usually is because it is too good to be true. I'm not saying that's the case here and I'm not saying big pharma doesn't have an unholy bromance with government I'm just saying your explanations that it is a conspiracy not to use this drug is insufficient and as such wrong |
