olas24u:be that as it may, awolowo wasn't the primary or even one of the biggest villains of their civil war woes, general shagari, relative to shehu i think by virtue of being a Fulani wartime enemy qualified as a bigger villain if we Want to use emotion over logic, I'm not saying elements of that sentiment wasn't there but logic will say business interests of the day was the determinant factor |
olas24u:i will search but I make no promises, I believe awolowo had our local textile industry in mind when he made that campaign promise but it was against the vested interests of Igbo traders heavily invested in it and their dependents so the opposition ran with it and blew it out of proportion as is expected |
POSmecrhant:following |
olas24u:the British used southerners and mainly northcentral minorities in the pre-independence Nigerian army because they postulated that the proliferation of intercenine warfare made the men from these areas good soldiers fodder, the officer corps came from educated southerners, the advent of the core north into the military only came after independence where unqualified dunces like the buharis and shagaris were taken in in a progrom driven by tafawa balewa for his northern agenda, i thought this was common history or don't they teach Nigerian history in schools anymore? |
olas24u:that is your take, my parents were alive then and can be adjudged politically neutral so I will go with their analysis, if igbos were told to believe all that you claimed when they know for a fact that Gowon was president then I guess the propaganda machine didn't start yesterday, but truth is all that couldn't be made to stick to awolowo as he was only in an advisory role in government, the executive positions were taken by northerners so a shagari presidency would have offended their sensitivities, i go with my parents analysis of awolowo being an honest idiot who alienated the southeast from him by his campaign utterances giving the opposition ammunition to use against him |
olas24u:i don't know about that but if the southeast voted against him then the numbers do not add up in his favour |
olas24u:it wasn't a spoiler game. At least not in 1979, Igbo's were recovering from the civil war and had little to no political aspirations at the center, but they had regional interests on easy conduct of business, as I wasn't alive then, i take my parents account of it, they called awolowo foolish in his declaration to ban imports, they said that before that statement Igbo's were neither for or against awolowo, how is that a betrayal of Yorubas if the candidate was a honest idiot who vowed to work against your interests by banning the import and trade in second hand goods? If igbos voted for obasonjo against olu falae both yorubas and obasonjo against buhari where is the spoiling happening? But a Yoruba vote against GEJ without any policy issue affecting them negatively at stake is the real definition of spoiling, an act of malice and an act of hatred |
olas24u:restructioring is desired by all,was it GEJ that scuttled the implementation of the confab submission or vested northern interests? you forget that the national assembly has a role to play in any constitutional amendment. Rotimi Amaechi is viewed as a traitor by his own people, asides his political journeymen in choba and environs, amaechi is a pariah in rivers state talk less of the rest of the southsouth and southeast, if he is popular enough in the remaining four geopolitical regions of country to give him the victory your guess is as good as mine |
olas24u:oga after eight years of obasonjo it wasn't à Hausa/Fulani military, it was a nigeria military, in fact until buhari became president it was never a Hausa/Fulani military so how you think they would have easily facilitated a coup in this internet age beats me. On your second point everyone can do better in retrospect, that is the beauty of hindsight, having Said that, Jonathan took council seriously and tried to listen and please everyone most times against his better judgement and as a leader all that proved about him was that he actually and genuinely cared You say in the whole south if things were right no one would have voted for buhari so pray tell, what exactly was wrong with the south? Apart from propaganda tabloids and their misdirecting headlines was there any calamity in the southwest? Southeast? Was militancy in the nigerdelta almost over? The only part of Nigeria that could make a genuine claim of things not being right was the northeast for obvious reasons yet they are not the ones claiming entitlement to the presidency |
olas24u:in 1979 the choice to vote shagari over awolowo was a business decision after awolowo openly addressed Igbo businessmen during campaign that he will ban most imports, igbos voted for obasonjo on two occasions, so your claim of a lack of Igbo support is only a half truth and factually incorrect! Not everything is about tribe, for more logical thinking folks, there are other issues that are more important like the economy, security, rule of law, democratic values e.t.c, that I harp on tribe this time is out of a sense of justice and fairness, if an igbo is ñot president in 2023 than I predict civil unrest and dissatisfaction in a region contiguous to mine and such unrest could easily spill into my region and then yours, the violence in the core north today once sounded far fetched years ago. And obasonjo winning the presidency despite losing his region just goes to show you that for all your perception of self worth as a region, you can't give Tinubu or any other southwesterner the presidency on your own |
Jagunlabiodua:repeat loud and clear "MINORITY MINORITY MINORITY!" yes we know that label and that label will hunt your Tinubu, he will never be president and sorry no you're not a majority either, not on your own at least, you're just one of three, get hold of a pie chart and grasp your electoral insignificance in the Nigerian sense of things, I make bold to say Tinubu will never become nigerias president because in this pie chart of opinions and numbers, the south east another of the larger groups like you, the north central which is made of yes MINORITIES like us and parts of the Northwest and northeast are strongly united against Tinubu and any buhari partisans for the affliction they have brought on us and what makes it more interesting is that very many yorubas are at the forefront of anti-Tinubu campaigns and are open to a southeastern presidency, you are in the minority here, Tinubu can become life president of Lagos but I doubt he could ever become president of oduduwa republic ![]() Revenge against Tinubu is chilling in the Antarctic waiting for 2023 to be served! |
Jagunlabiodua:keep your fang sprouted buccal cavity shut! Yoruba's made Jonathan president the same way you made olu falae president in 1999, same as nuhu ribadu and all others who have campaigned under a yorubacentric platform! You overestimate your importance and delegate a stupid sense of entitlement to yourselves for imaginary services rendered, we don't care to intimidate yorubas but rightly we will intimidate any Tinubu partisans be they Yoruba, Americans or Russians! Affliction will never be tolerated to rise again! And the disgrace you believe you gave to Jonathan we will give tinubu a thousand fold, he is a Lagos ludo learner who wants to match moves against national chesslords and his comeuppance is nigh and post 2023 mark this post if you dare and I will be here to deride your bitter tears |
olas24u:i see you buy into conspiracy theories originated from the fumes of the dredges of drained and empty palmwine cups tapped from otta farm palm trees, so tell me, ibori would have staged a coup and the rest of Nigeria would have stood by idly? Secondly, true Nigeria's politics has been ethnic and religious only to a certain extent and only in certain quaters, by and large before your support of buhari Nigerians have been united in opposition to buhari's religious extremism and fulanocentric parochialism, the victory of yaradua over buhari wasn't a Fulani against Fulani vote, the victory of good luck over buhari was a "the rest of us" (including the southwest) against a religious extremists core north vote, buhari's alleged victory in 2015 came after a massive rebranding of his image by the lagos-ibadan media about how he was a detribalised, irreligious patriot with stories of how his driver and cook are Igbo Christians, his first daughter is married to a Christian and courtesy of Obama's help propaganda was employed on a massive scale hitherto unheard of in nigerias electioneering, white was black, up was down, east was west and hitherto enlightened people started exhibiting stupidity of the highest order while the voices of reason were drowned in all the noise, fast forward 7yrs from then and we are all crying like some of us warned you all about. And when you say a section of the country was dominant in Jonathan's government, oga step up with your full chest let's match facts with facts so I can prove to you that like the rest of tinubu's partisans you bought willy nilly into a lie and dirty propaganda without first pausing to reflect and think critically how it could be even probable talk less of possible, Jonathan had a cabinet of technocrats, ngozi okonjo iweala, Barth nnaji, the agric minister now the president of the Africa development bank, I have forgotten his name, these are guys headhunted for by mega corporations for their mouthwatering qualifications, not the nepotistic, lacklustre appointments of buhari like ngige, fashola, aregbesola and co You bought into lies like $20billion is missing from the treasury, gen ihejirika is committing genocide against northerners, Jonathan is using bokoharam to decimate the population of the north and of recent diezani has a diamond bra worth millions of dollars, there is nothing Nigerian newspapers can not print and Nigerians like you believe making me doubt your claims to intelligence |
Ebubu:the so called days of development were started by umahi as a PDP governor before he stole their glory and gave it to the APC! PDP is just retrieving their lost glory |
adekolaelect:the party took part in the election not the candidate, the mandate therefore belongs to the party not the candidate, I will like to assume that the first runners up in the primaries will get the post but that is the party's business, whoever they choose to nominate will get the seat and represent the party. Understanding is key, you obviously don't understand the interpretation of the judgement |
SyrusdeHansome:he rarely allows them to rule according to the constitution and legal precedence either by placing choice judges over sensitive cases through his illegal cjn and he rarely obeys court orders either when the previous fails to work |
WhizdomXX:I be confirm warri boy ![]() |
Jagunlabiodua:nonsense! And we from those minority tribe are not yorubas either! Don't forget that! And we have not forgotten that some yorubas like you from the tinubu faction betrayed and actively maligned, impugned and abused a minority southern president and we go give una serious bloody payback a thousand fold! And as one of those minorities you are so quick to point out is not Igbo, I will rather have an Igbo president and if that fails a Fulani president but never a Yoruba president, not yet, not until a southeasterner and a southsoutherner have been president respectively, betrayal will never be rewarded |
olas24u:gej's presidency has nothing to do with southwesterners or any other pressure group contrary to your belief, it was inevitable after yaradua's death became public and anything contrary to that would've shut down government and governance for good as no one will consent to brazen unconstituitionality unbacked by military force in which case western powers will impose sanctions, it was a lose lose scenario for would be northern power grabbers so stop patting yourselves on the back as if whatever you did was responsible for GEJ's constitutional ascension to the presidency! And what happened after he formed the government is a matter of perspective, if you are looking at it from the perspective of reward for services rendered like a typical nigerian politician, know two things, GEJ wasn't a typical Nigerian politician, he still had conscience so he ruled as his conscience demanded with comprises with many quaters, secondly, no services were rendered and your southwestern sense of entitlement was grossly misplaced as it would be again next year, what you don't understand is the deep seated hatred for tinubu and his guts in thinking that there are three regions in Nigeria that are pushovers that he could ride roughshod over to satisfy his ambitions, we go shock am, the hate for tinubu is real, living in his Lagos bubble surrounded by the ilks of mc oluomo he will fail to realise this to his detriment |
LegendHero:no, he wasn't, he was fashioned to be portrayed that way, and rigged in by a compliant jega in 2015, if yaradua could beat him in 2007 then his popularity is a mirage and you guys tend to think of the north as one homogeneous unit, asides six or seven core Islamic states in the north the others that are a balanced fair mixture never gave him more than 40% of their votes at any point in time before 2015 when you all caught a propaganda laced remove the minority president fever |
olas24u:i voted for obasonjo twice, once for yaradua, twice for Jonathan, fvck it! I even voted once for tinubu and once for fashola i vote as my conscience leads me, i am from the south south, my conscience upholds equity and it will be evil for me to sit silent and watch you all term a tinubu or any other southwestern presidential candidacy as a southern candidacy, I don't speak for southeasterners and south southerners alone, i also speak for conscientious southwesterners who have had enough of tinubu and his journey men's bullshyte! As there are greedy southwesterners like you so are there greedy southsoutherners who want to push GEJ to the front again to have his personality ridiculed. After a southeastern presidency, power should go to the north central, PDP led states since 1999 in my region are largely politically stable for this rotational representation, nobody feels left out! Unfortunately for your Tinubu, Nigeria doesn't belong to him like Lagos is, it never will! This fourth republic, it is greedy southwesterners like you who betrayed a unified southern agenda and labeled GEJ all sorts of unprintable names just to get power, you speak about history of the Yoruba being betrayed by the southeast, but you conveniently ignore the greater betrayals of the Yoruba by the Fulani dominated north so you nitpick perceived betrayals to avenge! So now, should we in the southsouth be feeling betrayed by Yoruba activities against a minority president from our zone in 2015 too? If Nigeria must be ruled equitably it must be ruled by a Nigerian first, not a Yoruba, not a Fulani, not an Igbo, a Nigerian! And that won't happen when one side wants to pretend others are less Nigerian and as such less worthy of leadership than them |
LegendHero:was buhari sellable when you were parroting him in 2015? Forget your sermonising jare! We are not kids, any southeastern candidate even umahi is far better than tinubu! When you present any southeastern candidate, the south south, southeast and north central will unite behind him, whether the northeast and Northwest will use their brains and not religious sentiments this time is left to be seen, but it is hoped that buhari has dealt with them enough for some semblance of sense to take root, what remains to be seen is whether the southwest partisans will rally behind this candidate, many southwesterners are already open to this idea so stop pretending as if personality issues really matter in Nigerian politics |
Abdul05:against tinubu I will vote for atiku, against any southwesterner i will vote for atiku, saying power should return to the south is duplicitous, be specific, atiku is not more greedy than any southwesterner nursing presidential ambitions, power must go to the southeast for true equity and to foster unity, anything less then let us all be mad together after all the southwest did it first in this fourth republic! And don't lump the entire south together politically because it fits your narrative, either the southwest stands with the rest of the south for a southeastern presidency or the rest of the south resolutely stands against a southwestern presidency! No room for conciliation and mumu anymore! If we want what is right then we must do what is right |
Righteousness2:and you're...... God? i didn't think so, rephrase and say "your European influenced" standards |
AmazonTopaz:you owe me no apologies, that is how sensationalists and blackmailers act, anything for a story, anything for the clout, they will fake shit, forge evidence and ruin lives and ironically they shout fake news up and down in defence of Donald trump ![]() |
AmazonTopaz:those old enough on this thread know me by my antecedents, no one who knows me will ever mistake me for a conciliatory b1tch, of all lies to sell it is me DMing you ![]() |
Dapcity247:are you referring to me dapshitty? Mention me whenever you are so I don't mistake it for someone else! ![]() |
AmazonTopaz:see me see small boy dey beg me make I free am, how come I no DM am until he claim say e go expose me? anyway, I'm yet to discover something new about myself |
TurnNewLeaf:how does it make you feel? Feeling good eh? you value me that much to fake me having an interest in knowing your rotted cadaver eh? if I'm so interested in peace, why am I still roasting you here where it matters? ![]() |
Dapcity247:so this is how you jobless low lives pass your time, cloning and faking shit to give you a rope to cling to when you're caught in a sinking sand of your stupidity on nairaland? well, i don't give a shit dapshitty! |
AmazonTopaz:and you believed that I GalacticHorde the unflappable gladiator will ever stoop that low? Impossicant ![]() |
AmazonTopaz:abeg beg him for actual exposé, I dey disappointed in his no show! |
