Hullabaloon: Just out of curiosity, what are you doing with data to hit almost 2TB monthly?
Highest I have ever hit is the one I currently have, 700gb and that's because of the world cup I download large files on my console, stream 4K content, and share the connection with about six other people. |

Ifeanyi4491: Please guys, for those using Airtel 50Mbps speed, if someone uses up to 1TB of data, does Airtel reduce or limit the speed?
I’m asking because I’ve used almost 1TB, and before now I usually got between 50Mbps to 58Mbps on speed tests. But ever since I got close to 1TB usage, my speed test now stops at around 1.8Mbps or 1.9Mbps.
So I want to know if that’s the reason for the slow speed, or if it’s a network issue, before I renew my subscription, which expires on the 21st. I think they have stopped that. I did almost 2TB last month with a consistent speed of 48 to 49.1 Mbps throughout the month. |

What’s up with Airtel? Since I subscribed yesterday, I haven’t even gotten up to 2 Mbps. No band seems to be working neither 5G nor 4G. YouTube is not even loading.
Is this problem general? Because I know someone in Makurdi facing the same issue.
Abuja Lugbe people, am I the only one experiencing this issue? |

NSEstudent: You can choose 4G only and leave the bands all active. It's not ZTE problem but Airtel/Nigeria problem. Every other router would have done the same. We don't have standalone 5G yet. of course problem is from airtel |

Tolu181: pls how do i lock bands, is it from my phone settings
Which website i need to visit, my odu is stressing me From the ODU IP address, check the label under the ODU to find the IP address. Log in using admin if you haven’t changed it. Once logged in, navigate to where you see 4G, 5G, and other network options—you will find the band settings there. |
Phones › Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by gambus007(m): 3:17pm On Mar 24 |
NSEstudent: I see. This is a different scenario. I have no 5G signal in my place. Apparently the router is giving preference to 5G, which is probably unstable in your place. Gbam. Band locking and 5G frequency locking are best for 5G NSA; otherwise, you will experience signal drops. It’s not plug-and-play because 5G NSA depends on a stable 4G anchor band. If the device keeps switching bands automatically, it can cause instability and drops. When my ODU was on 4G, I had no issues using it that way, but once on 5G NSA, proper band and frequency locking became necessary for a stable connection. |
Phones › Re: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by gambus007(m): 10:54am On Mar 24 |
NSEstudent: Not plug and play as how? Band locking is optional. That router is very good at choosing the best cells. I use it and no band is locked for the most part. I only play with band locking when I want and or when network is misbehaving really badly. Even then, I still end up leaving the bands unlocked. Talking from my experience and from people around my area, it does not work well without locking the band, especially if you have a 5G signal. Do you have 5G in your area? |

nurez305: This is exactly the issue I was facing late last month. Exactly the same issue until someone recommend I lock just a single band, immediately I unlock all bands and lock only band 3, I have never experienced single downtime since then and the speed has never went below 40mbps... Speed want to wound me. Maybe you can try that as well of that will solve the problem. I did a write-up for him/her, but I don’t think he/she even read it. A lot of people don’t understand that the ZTE ODU is not plug-and-play.You need to lock the band. The person refused to listen and kept complaining, even though the explanation was already in the topic. Even before my write-up, someone else had explained the same thing too. |

Mel1234: I don’t know if I’m the only one experiencing downtime.
I’ve been using Airtel ZLT ODU since December, And it was working fine. Occasional downtime ranging from minutes to hours existed. But I was okay with that.
Since March 1st however, the services just went bad. Daytime is 1mbps to max 20mbps(with ping of 500-1500ms - like WTF)
It’s a new subscription (so I haven’t used 1tb yet) The ODU shows green - that’s “good signal”
However, Around 1am to 6am - it gets to 20 - 50mbps(with ping 28-43ms)
I’ve been sending emails and even complaining on Twitter.
I even reported to NCC: Still no solution.
Has anyone been able to get help or fix this? Are you sure you have a good Airtel network in your area? I once had the same issue when I first got the device. Since then, I’ve downloaded up to 700–800GB of content, and I can also play FC26 on my console without any problems. If you’re using the G5FA ODU (that’s the same model I use), set your APN to manual and lock the 4G band to Band 3 (it works well in Abuja). The ODU comes with only n78 for 5G, so set the antenna to automatic. Trust me, this Airtel ODU is not plug-and-play. Maybe they’re not aware, or their engineers are not ready to do the job properly. You need to use the ZTE Help app to check the signal strength in different parts of your house, then adjust the manual settings (APN, band lock, 5G lock if available in your area, and antenna). From my experience, the Airtel ODU with the ZTE G5FA is definitely not plug-and-play. |

Peterlove11: I have used the 3.....in terms of raw speed, the ZTE edges the rest(it's performance noticeably improves and become apparent after a restart). In terms of online responsiveness and ping, the Huawei is the best. If you play online games alot, go for the Huawei. It has the best ping. You must also understand that the gaming latency and ping is dependent on alot of factors e.g network quality, closeness to server etc. So I won't put my entire decision based on latency alone. Infact interms of gaming I prefer MTN. The network serves me better in my location You are very right. Unfortunately, I was given the ZTE router and I am unable to play FC26 online. It is not playable at all, and I don’t think I’m interested in doing a separate subscription just for online gaming. I just don’t know what to do about the issue. The 5G router was not like this though. Please, do you have any recommendation on how to improve gaming with the ZTE router? |

twosquare: I use the 5G router, so I do not experience this.
A lot of complaints about their outdoor units. I have a 5G router as well, but I stopped using it. I didn’t have any issues with it because it wasn’t capped at 50 Mbps. However, this ODU has been a real pain. If MTN had extended their infrastructure to my estate, I don’t think I would continue using this ODU. The only time it performs reasonably well is at night when downloading. Indians no dey like spend |

twosquare: On ODU? Yes, it only works well in the middle of the night, from about 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. After that, it slows down. I have relocated the position, but the issue remains the same. I also changed the antenna to a directional one and pointed it toward the tower. Unfortunately, I bought this device. I can’t use it for online gaming during the day, and even at midnight the ping sometimes becomes very low and skips. |

Please I need to ask a few questions about the Airtel ODU. MTN FibreX refused to include the rest of our estate in their infrastructure, and I have already paid for the Airtel ODU.
I need to know if I will have the option to pick up the devices myself (i.e., the ODU and IDU). If yes, which setup would be better in terms of performance and battery life for someone who downloads games via a console (PS5 Pro), streams YouTube, and shares the connection among six people?
From the thread I am reading, I am seeing different types of setups. I also read that after 1TB of downloads, the speed is throttled.
Thanks in advance for any advice. |

whogatti: In your own case...the strict restrictions in using Nepa poles is the issue here in some locations it is not like that...so long they are not mounting the FAT boxes on Nepa poles but just to run the wire along the Nepa poles till it get to your house shouldn't be an issue... Since you never can tell how long it will take MTN to do FAT extensions to your Estate...then you should request for a refund The infrastructure is about 150 meters away from my house. It is already within the estate, just one street ahead of mine. When I stand in front of my gate, I can see the last pole where the connection ended; there is only a small bridge between the last pole and my street, all within the same estate. The issue of a refund, according to the marketer and the engineer, is very discouraging. They said it takes about three months to process a refund. I’m really tired, abeg. I keep sending emails, and the response is always that my complaint has been acknowledged. On WhatsApp, they say I will get feedback, while the email response says they are working on the complaint. |
Phones › Re: MTN FibreX - Installation, Speed Tests, Availability, And All You Need To Know by gambus007(m): 12:57am On Feb 02 |
whogatti: Best bet ...assuming the distance is lesser than 200m from the FAT box to you house..they sure can install it for you...they will only come with 200m long wire According to them, which I also saw myself, they don’t use NEPA poles. They have their own particular poles, similar to streetlight poles. According to the engineer and he showed me proof—they are warned, especially in areas where they already have their own poles, not to use NEPA poles,if they do, they will be fined. Another engineer who came (I’m not sure if he is right) said Huawei is in charge of the infrastructure installation. As it is now, I don’t know what to do. Refunds take about three months or more, according to what I heard, and MTN has not shown any sign of extending the phase to my estate. |
