EducationCovid'19: Nans South West Zone Appreciates Nigerian Government Efforts, Seeks In by Ganiz(op): 9:54pm On Mar 21, 2020
COVID'19: NANS SOUTH WEST ZONE APPRECIATES NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT EFFORTS, SEEKS INTERVENTION.

In the last few weeks, the relatively unknown Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) has become a worldwide scourge, attracting tremedous international concern. It has threatened the public health and safety of millions of individuals and has diversely affected the global economy.
Our educational sector have millions of people that interact daily physically and socially. Therefore, it is incumbent on us to identify key priorities and design measures that can be utilized by staff and students to keep the educational sector informed, safe and protected.

The National Association of Nigerian Students South West Zone (NANS Zone D) ably led by Comrade Kappo Samuel Olawale, writes to appreciate the relentless efforts made so far by the Lagos, Oyo, Osun and Ogun state governors and the Federal Government towards fighting and preventing the fast spread of the Corona Virus amidst the people of the states and the nation at large. It has become a matter of importance to share with the entire students of the Southwestern zone and Nigeria in general the severity of the COVID-19 situation which has caused drastic changes in the lifestyle of our people.
As it is now, preventing the spread of the virus is imperative in order for all the good people of South West Zone, especially students to escape the looming pandemic which has taken the lives of thousands of people all over the world.

We solidarize with the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Ministry of Health for the swift and effective efforts they have put in place to contain the spread of the disease in the country and also the South West Governors for directing the closure of schools and other public institutions that may be more open to causing the uncontrollable spread of the disease. The closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease, which has become a global threat.
Government has said the ban on high-density gatherings affects all schools whether they are public or privately run, as well as all religious activities in the state. It said this is due to the global spread of the virus, which resulted in the recent ban of all high-density gatherings in the country.
Therefore, we appreciate and applaud the State and Federal government of Nigeria for taking this preventive action towards preventing the spread of COVID'19 amidst Nigerian citizens and most especially the Nigerian Students.

The Deputy Coordinator NANS Zone D hereby implores all Nigerian students to take heed and do all necessary things so as to be safe pending the time there will be a solution to this deadly virus.

To be on a safer side, we advice all students in the Zone and its environs to strictly take precautionary measures which include:
- Frequent washing of hands with soap and water that helps in killing viruses that may be on the hand.
- Using ethanol based hand sanitizer,
- Keeping hands away from the face as much as possible,
- Maintain social distance of at least 1metre (3feets) between anyone with the symptoms (coughing or sneezing),
- Stay at home when you fell unwell. If you have fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, kindly seek medical attention in advance.
- Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice given by your healthcare provider and also stay calm.
- No shaking of hands and also,
- Observe self-isolation if you just got back from high-risk countries.

It is also pivotal for every one to wait on the Ministry of Health for every piece of reliable information that is necessary to control the disease. Spreading fake news about unconfirmed developments is highly discouraged.
In the same vein, we humbly inform our ever-concerned government, particulary the South West state governors to make sure every step is taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 so it does not hinder smooth running of academic activities of students for a very long time and the lively hood of good citizens of the country.

Conclusively, NANS South West Zone implores the Federal Government to take a remedial action towards this saddening and deadly disease.
We pray that all efforts to control COVID-19 in the South West Zone and Nigeria in general will not be in vain.

Until all are Freed,
All remain Slaves.

EducationNans South West Zone Warns Impersonators, Enlightens Students Populace by Ganiz(op): 6:53pm On Mar 19, 2020
The attention of the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students {NANS} South West Zone under the auspices of Comrade Kappo Olawale Samuel has been propelled towards some impersonators and unscrupulous individuals who have been fictitiously appointing some sets of students under the disguise as an office holder in our great association.
Upon their recent undue appointments by one of the impersonators known as Comrade Akinwunmi Akeem Akinshola who acclaimed himself as the Deputy Coordinator of the South West Zone of NANS even without his spirit nor body at the convention ground at Lagos State College of Health Technology, Yaba (LASCOHEALTH) which produced the leadership of the Zone on Saturday, 7th of December 2019.

In lieu of this defacing acts from the power tussled impersonators, the office of the duly elected and sworn in Deputy Coordinator of NANS South West Zone in person of Comrade Oladimeji Uthman seizes this opportunity to call the attention of the entire Nigerian Students populace across all institutions in South West region particularly the Gateway State {Ogun} to beware and keep distance from these set of impersonators and appointees from their ends who operate in the capacity of NANS South West Zone at large.

Furthermore, this is to enlighten and inform the students populace in the South West region to abstain from these set of impersonators and not to have any form of official business or relations with them because whosoever does this, is at his or her own peril.
Though, necessary steps have been taken and the issue has been duly reported to the law enforcement agencies in all South Western states and they would face the wrath of the law soon.

However, NANS South West Zone assures the entire students populace not to give room to any form of impersonation that could cause harm or vandalize the image of NANS as a reputable and responsible body and also calling the attention of security personnel in the states that falls under the region respectively to be at alert as the interest of our students is second to non under our leadership.
Most importantly, the genuinely elected and inaugurated leadership of NANS South West Zone {Zone D}, uses this medium to send a note of warning to these set of impersonators to desist from this unlawful act as information has it that their purported inauguration was also disrupted and unapproved by the institution management of the self acclaimed impersonating Coordinator.
Any sense of disobedience to the warning from the leadership of the Zone and further involvements in undue activities will lead to a regrettable moments for all involved impersonators.

Conclusively, NANS South West Zone warns the general students populace to stay away and totally disassociate themselves from these set of impersonators as they are not representing the interest of students in South West Geopolitical Zone.

Until all are Freed,
All remain Slaves.

EducationEffect, Causes And Solutions To Sexual Harassment And Sex For Grades In Our Educ by Ganiz(op): 10:40am On Feb 20, 2020
Comrade Oladimeji Uthman is the South West Deputy Coordinator, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS Zone D). He was a guest on Rockcity FM (101.9) on the 19th February 2020 where he spoke on; 'EFFECT, CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS TO SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND SEX FOR GRADES IN OUR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS' thus:

In recent times, stories have been flying around concerning the situation of things in Nigerian institutions especially cases of sexual harassment of female students by male lecturers.

The society has been condemning very seriously male lecturers who harass female students or even demand sex to enable them pass their courses.

In as much as this act is condemnable and of course is considered unethical in any institution of learning, there are however matters arising.

The society should not look at these incidents from only one angle.

As a matter of fact, it was very undignifying to hear of such a thing either by a female student or by a male lecturer.

The questions people are bound to ask is: Why is it now so frequent and why are male lectures attracted to their female students?

Imagine lecturers requesting sex for grades and the student got use to it and feel since they don't have principles and ethics, so why not give it to them. So on the issue of sex for grades , they are the Genesis of it all.

The National Association of Nigerian Students South West Zone (NANS Zone D) under the leadership of Comrade Kappo Samuel Olawale has carried out a study recently in some institutions of learning to ascertain the causes of this moral decadence in our system and three major facts played out.

Firstly, we discovered that students are no longer as studious as we used to be in the past. It is absurd for students to miss lectures or not to read for at least two hours in a day. It is absurd not to go to the institution’s library to study in a day. Students attended classes regularly, bought textbooks or went in search of those they could not afford to buy from the library.

But presently, our students are distracted by a lot of things: their android telephones which they check every now and then when lectures are going on. The rate at which most of them miss classes is so alarming, they prefer to be somewhere else instead of being in class. This is why some institutions went ahead to put a law that “to be eligible to write any semester examination a student must be able to attain at last 75% attendance”. This in the view of giving students a sense of responsibility that would enable them to attend classes regularly, yet, you will still find the majority of our students defaulting. A student who does not attend classes regularly is susceptible to failure and in order to avoid failure the student makes himself or herself vulnerable to seeking undue help.

Secondly, our findings showed that some students were in the habit of sitting back at their student centres fraternising while lectures are ongoing. Students who pay little or no attention to lectures and other class activities are ten times more likely to seek extra help or present themselves for sex than students who participated ACTIVELY in their classes.

Thirdly, we have also discovered in the course of our research on the cause of this sexual harassment is the way and manner our female students DRESS on campus. A man who is already struggling to control himself might not be able to resist some of these modern clothes being worn by our female students.

Let me give an ordeal a male lecturer once narrated to me; "He was in his office one fateful evening doing a research on a paper he was to present at a conference.

He left his door ajar due to power failure to enable cross ventilation. All of a sudden, someone walked in and closed the door which had a jam lock.

At the locking of the door, he looked up and saw a female student with long artificial nails and eyelashes.

When he looked down to appraise what her mission could be, he saw that she had on a strapless little dress without wearing bra, her nipples pointing out and threatening to fall out of the little dress.

The man confessed that he was suddenly covered with sweat and he started panting. He tried shouting at the girl but he could not find his voice as the girl approached him. He said he was terribly aroused when the girl bent over his table to inform him that she needed his help to pass his course. He said it took him all his will power to run towards his door, opened it and beckoned on a colleague he saw on the corridor to help him chase away the girl and lock his door.

This is a story out of so many others.

Study has shown that it is easier for a female to resist sexual passes than for a male to resist.

Therefore the question is who actually is harassing who?

From the study of the leadership of NANS Zone D, it is obvious that students are making themselves vulnerable to sexual approaches.

A student who attends lectures regularly, does his or her assignment in record time, studies hard to pass exams, dresses decently at all times will HARDLY be a victim of sexual harassment.

Conclusively, I call on parents, journalists, students leaders, human rights activists to look holistically, not at one side of the story but at both sides by encouraging our students to uphold the old practices of academics and not to be distracted by parties, social media platforms, night clubs, indecent fashion/dressing etc.

I also call on our distinguished male lecturers to zip up and uphold the ethics of their profession. They should not hesitate to cry out in good time when experiencing any pressure from any female student whether directly or indirectly and the issue of setting up our lecturers should not be encouraged as it is obvious that in setting up someone, you are on a mission to make the person fall into that trap without his or her knowledge and usually one’s area of weakness will be the bait.

I take exception to this. When it's about bad news, Instablog will gladly write that the undergraduate is from TASUED. Now, it's a good news from a TASUED undergraduate - DAVID JAGUN who is a huge fan of drake, they now termed it a Nigerian undergraduate.
I've given them my piece of mind there in the comment section and I urge all TASUEDITES who are proud to be from TASUED to also storm the Instablog page on Instagram that their caption should be changed to a TASUED undergraduate from Nigeria.
