Uzomacharles: Search online for lightweight distros and take your pick. I have never had any reason to try them but I know they exist for systems with low specs. 1 Like |

Uzomacharles: 4Gb is recommended by most popular distros like Ubuntu, Linux Mint etc for comfortable usage but it doesn't mean you can t go lower and install a very lightweight distro |

The5DME: Ok, do you have access to a wired network with internet connection? Then come back to this Additional device area. Scan and install the Broadcom driver. That should resolve the issue. |

The5DME: What was the error? Please send a screenshot. You are in the right place. Also by just seeing a part of your wall paper your wallpaper, I am guessing that is an older Ubuntu version. Can you install 20.04 LTS version (link below) of Ubuntu and see if this problem persists? https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?version=20.04.3&architecture=amd64 |

The5DME: Check additional hardware settings to see if your wifi card requires proprietary driver. You might need internet from another source (wired) if your system needs to download it. |

Hotspotbro:I am assuming you have uninstalled Virtual Box and deleted all its associated files and VM to give you room to install VMWare and create new VMs. Can you post a screenshot of the error message? |
Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by Gargoylesmiles(m): 3:00am On Dec 18, 2021 |
Hotspotbro: It seems this is a VBox issue and you need to delete extension files and reinstall Virtual box 1) sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/VBox* 2) re-install VirtualBox |

Veiniously: No it does not by default but there are several ways to run *.exe files in Linux distros. For starters you can install Wine (winehq dot org) on Ubuntu to run Windows application on it. 1 Like |

What distro are you running on your PC? From my experience the popular distros like Ubuntu and its derivatives will discover that printer automatically. Ajayiawo: |

Ajayiawo:Is the printer on your network or USB connection to your Linux laptop? Most Linux distros come with printer drivers and should discover your printer easily. |

Deicide: Look and feel is also part of the appeal so it is not wrong to say the OS looks plain. That is why distros like Deepin, Elementary and Zorin exist. The beauty of Linux is that you have several options to choose from (Freedom of choice). That is why I recommend people trying out as many distros as they can before they settle for one. 1 Like |

Not to sound pessimistic but I will say everything is wrong with the drive if the connector is broken since the connector is the gateway to your data in the drive. Will like to know how you solve this if & when you do. All the best. Deicide: |

chidoziekingsley: Glad everything worked out well for you. Rufus is a good bootable USB tool but my recommended solution was that you stop "writing" ISOs as you did Rufus when you start using Ventoy. You just copy and paste. It is a better solution in my view. |
Computers / Re: Ubuntu Linux by Gargoylesmiles(m): 6:46pm On Jun 04, 2020 |
chidoziekingsley: I will suggest you download the iso file and then use Ventoy tool (ventoy.net/en/index.html) on your USB where you dont need to "burn" the iso file. Just copy and paste the iso in a "Ventoyed" USB and you can boot the USB and load as many .iso files on that USB. Try Ventoy out and thank me later. 2 Likes 1 Share |

AshipaEk0: The stories of VM performance been too slow is outdated in my view. It all depends on the host machine running the VM. Today's laptops with good specs ie 16GB & above and an i7 or even i5 processor will run a VM well. Of cos nothings beats running the OS directly on the machine but trust me there are so many systems today running VMs than ever before. Just give it ago, that is why it is a VM PS: As I type I am running several virtual machines in this OS/VM; https://www.proxmox.com/en/. It is basically an OS that manages all your virtual machines and can run headless. |
