Lukgaf: When Will We Truly Learn Tolerance?
Yesterday, a disturbing video went viral showing a female student in Ilorin (a Federal Government school, for that matter) being barred from entering her school simply because she wore a hijab.
Honestly, one cannot help but ask: When will we learn to tolerate one another in this country?
Has the Nigerian Constitution suddenly changed to deny people the freedom to profess and practice their faith openly? What happened to the Supreme Court judgment that explicitly affirmed the right of Muslim girls to wear hijab in schools if they so wish?
Even more ironic this happened in Ilorin, a city with a rich Islamic heritage and majority Muslim population. If such acts of intolerance can happen there, what should we expect elsewhere?
But then again, what exactly is the problem? If my daughter wears a hijab, or my wife chooses to wear a niqab, have I forced it upon anyone’s daughter? Why then should it become a national issue?
The truth is, until we begin to genuinely respect each other’s faith and freedom, peace and unity will remain elusive in this country. Nigeria’s Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and that freedom must mean the right to live our beliefs, not just declare them.
Even in some Western countries, with a much smaller Muslim population, women are allowed to wear hijab or niqab freely in schools and public spaces. So, what exactly is our excuse here in Nigeria, a country that proudly claims to uphold religious liberty?
Let’s be honest, this isn’t about dress code. It’s about tolerance, respect, and justice. And until we uphold these, we’ll keep failing as a truly united people.
PS: Don't forget to recite Suratul Khaf If something is acceptable or beneficial for one person, it should also be acceptable for another. Advocating for equal treatment and the absence of double standard.

babydioku: The Fabricated Narratives: APC Ronu's Campaign of Imaginary Facts Against Peter Obi
In the turbulent landscape of Nigerian politics, misinformation has become a weapon of choice for certain factions desperate to cling to power. Among the most egregious offenders are the so-called "APC Ronu" – a term often used to describe fervent All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters, particularly those from the Yoruba-speaking Southwest who rally under the banner of ethnic solidarity and "think" (ronu in Yoruba) about their political allegiance. These individuals, often amplified by social media trolls and paid propagandists, have mastered the art of fabricating "facts" that bear no resemblance to reality. Their goal? To discredit opponents and rewrite history in favor of their party's narrative. Nowhere is this more evident than in their relentless attacks on Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State.
One of the most persistent lies peddled by APC Ronu is the claim that Peter Obi was a poor governor who left Anambra State in ruins. They parrot lines like "Obi did nothing for Anambra" or "his tenure was a failure marked by poverty and neglect." But let's dissect this with actual evidence, shall we? During Obi's governorship from 2006 to 2014, Anambra saw transformative progress across multiple sectors. For instance, the state climbed from 26th to 1st position in WAEC examinations, a testament to massive investments in education. Obi initiated Sub-Sovereign Wealth savings, a pioneering move in Sub-Saharan Africa, and managed the state's debt so effectively that Anambra became one of Nigeria's least indebted states. Health infrastructure boomed with ₦127 billion allocated for upgrades, equipment, and mobile services, including specialized centers for breast cancer treatment. He restored order amid violence, built roads, and promoted academic excellence, leaving a legacy praised even by successors before political rivalries soured the discourse.
These aren't cherry-picked anecdotes; they're documented achievements from credible sources, including official records and independent analyses. Yet, APC Ronu dismiss them outright, opting instead for baseless smears. Critics like Reno Omokri have claimed poverty doubled under Obi, citing figures from 41.4% in 2003 to higher rates by 2014. But this ignores the national context of economic challenges and Obi's verifiable efforts in poverty alleviation through infrastructure and education. Others, like Secretary to the Government George Akume, mock Obi for "failing to rescue Anambra," a hollow jab that crumbles under scrutiny of the facts. If Obi's governance was so abysmal, why did he win re-election and hand over to a successor amid widespread acclaim? The truth is, these "facts" are imaginary, conjured to tarnish a man whose integrity threatens the status quo.
Now, here's a pointed question: How do these APC Ronu adults, many of whom have never ventured beyond their own regions, claim intimate knowledge of what transpired in Anambra during Obi's tenure? Anambra, in the Southeast, is worlds away from the Southwest strongholds where much of this propaganda originates. Have they visited the schools Obi rebuilt, the hospitals he equipped, or the roads he constructed? Or are they relying on echo chambers of WhatsApp forwards and biased blog posts? It's baffling how individuals confined to Lagos or Ogun State can authoritatively declare the inner workings of a distant Igbo-majority state. This regional insularity exposes the hypocrisy: their "knowledge" isn't based on experience or research but on tribalistic agendas designed to divide Nigerians along ethnic lines.
But perhaps the most telling aspect of this smear campaign is the sheer obsession APC Ronu and their ilk have with Peter Obi. Even years after the 2023 election, they can't stop talking about him. Articles and social media rants decry his "incredible candidacy" while simultaneously fixating on every move he makes. APC groups swipe at him relentlessly, from mocking his supporters as "street urchins" to fabricating threats against his life. Why the fixation? It only proves one undeniable fact: Peter Obi actually won the 2023 presidential election. The official results may say otherwise, but confessions from figures like Babachir Lawal, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai reveal the truth – Obi's victory was hijacked through manipulation and fraud. Posts across platforms assert he won states like Lagos and Rivers, only for results to be altered. The obsession stems from fear: if Obi didn't pose a real threat, why devote so much energy to discrediting him? It's the behavior of a party haunted by a stolen mandate, knowing that in a fair contest, Obi's grassroots appeal and proven track record would prevail.
In the end, the APC Ronu's imaginary facts don't just mislead – they undermine democracy. Nigerians deserve leaders judged on merit, not myths. As 2027 approaches, let's hope the truth prevails over the noise. Peter Obi's story isn't one of failure; it's one of resilience against a system rigged to suppress excellence. Wrote all these without listing obi achievement in infrastructure, healthcare and education. All these obidient paid advert. |

The best election conducted was 2023.
Imagine 2011 presidential election conducted by Maurice iwu Abia and Anambra state alone voted 1,175,984 and 1,145,169 respectively for PDP alone.
But in 2023, same Abia and Anambra deliver less than 400,000 and 600,000 compare to 2011.
I now see why those people from the other side of divide are angry with yakubu.
He prevented them from rigging the 2023 presidential election for their candidate. |
