My dear Lady, it may be the only way. Just ask Madam Etteh. She is the former hairdresser who became the fourth most powerful Nigerian, i.e speaker house of Reps, because of her 'association' with OBJ. Nigeria is a nauseating joke. Totally frustrating how we can get it right simply committing to the concept of letting merit carry the day everywhere.

Knowledge9000: Very shameless comment. Didn't you read that she was former Assistant-director Ministry of Defence, Abuja? What other qualification do you need? This is by far the most relevant qualification needed for Kaduna with her credential at Ministry of Defence.

Did you know that her Husband was former Director at Minsitry of Defence, Lagos before he was made Minister of Solid Minerals by Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar? That was his qualification. She is not your regular first lady, she is self-made...joined Ministry of Defence more than 25 yrs ago.
My guy, she has retired for crying out loud !!! How about the many who are well-qualified plus currently active and up to speed with affairs of Governance in Kaduna who will be brushed aside to accommodate someone who has to dust the cobwebs off her glasses? Is this not what GEJ did with Ringim? I.e deploying cronyism , rather than merit, to the detriment of Nigeria's security with his insistence many far more talented cop be retrenched to make way for the mediocre Ringim? We really need to stop this nonsense in Nigeria !! Walahi !!! It is bad enough our leaders try this shite but followers defending this retrogressive behavior is what makes me really fear for Nigeria's future.

Seriously, I need someone, anyone at all, to tell me why we are resisting evolution in Nigeria. Are we cursed? Even if leaders are wicked, callous and totally irresponsible, why should we defend what they do that is illogical, totally wrong and not seen anywhere else in the world?

She was a former deputy director at the Ministry of Defence and only retired after her husband became governor.

maasoap: Then what? Even if a king die prematurely, the post will go out the next qualified person. Let's not use sentiment and emotion to turn Nigeria upside down. They can give her another post that has nothing to do with being elected like commissioner, SA. Yar'dua died and Turai moved out of Aso rock. Period.
They should give her nada !! She only deserves support for herself and her children !!!! That is what happens worldwide !!! We simply need to stop this crazy culture of 'compensating' some individuals with very influential office that has a direct bearing on the lives of many. I would personally hazard a guess that Nigeria has, by far, the greatest number of unprepared and unworthy 'apprentice' leaders in the world because of our political culture of running politics like a nepotistic family affair.

Believe me, it is news like this, if true, that makes me dislike Nigerian leaders passionately. Why not simply let merit carry the day as is becoming the norm in even the worst Banana republics? Why is Nigeria such an aberration happy to roll around in the mud like a filthy animal disinterested in evolving?

Not even since birth!
Shioooooor!
Indeed. The whole "goodluck" thing, put in context, stems from how many Nigerians are childishly superstitious and overly keen to see everything in a religious context. Is this not the same President many Nigerians have died under due to organised acts of terrorism unseen before in our Nation? What do we call that? More "goodluck"?
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo Cant Stop Criticizing Jonathan by Gbawe: 10:41am On Dec 16, 2012
Nigerians, nothing will change if we do not begin to think critically.

The same OBJ who, whenever the chance fell in his laps, always went out of his way to support abjectly mediocre men to lead Nigeria in the form of Shagari, Yar Adua and now GEJ? How can anyone speak in support of this evil and malevolent hypocrite? Nigeria is going nowhere as long as young people don't develop the balls to 'seize the day' and tell traitors and treacherous men like OBJ, Anenih, IBB et al to go to blazes.

Where else in the world will OBJ's actions be accommodated? The man should be put in a dark dungeon permanently for supporting so many vacuous and brainless looters everywhere who have ruined Nigeria at critical stages in our development. Never has OBJ supported a performer while out of office. Not a fan of GEJ but this malevolent former President should shut up.

If I am to think of 5 individuals who have done the greatest damage to Nigeria since independence, OBJ would be very prominent in that list. He fully supported many corrupt and inept individuals, including GEJ, to gain power knowing the misrule Nigeria will suffer under those men. He should now spare us this show of hypocrisy. The egotistical and eternally vengeful man is only ever concerned about his image and looking good. Nonsense.

eGuerrilla: It is becoming increasing clear that Nigeria's skies are just as unsafe as her road network.
My brother, this tragedy is compounded further by the myopic, vacuous and ultimately self-defeatist elitism of our leaders. Imagine if we had a reliable and modern rail system linking Nigeria? I cannot count how many politicians and eminent folks I have sat close to on the London underground to include former London Mayor Ken Livinstone.

Nigeria is now one of the best example , in the entire world, of how not to do things. We are a top model of what even semi-ambitious Nations should ensure they refrain from doing if seeking development. Rather than develop our roads and rail system, some politicians would prefer to loot copiously so they can afford the airplanes they assume will help them avoid our wretched roads. Tragic.

Mind you, I am not saying the victims were part of the rot and I wish the souls of the departed RIP.

demmy: ^^^Good point.

Still I find it interesting that Yorubaland is enjoying growth now that there are no Yoruba politicians in the upper echelon of Nigeria's political hierarchy: President, VP, Senate pres, House speaker etc.
It is because the federal government, as currently constituted, is a monumental fraud. Anyone, whatever ethnic group they are from, who becomes President under the PDP must 100% automatically subscribe to the agreement that involves a few individuals keeping all Nigeria's wealth for themselves while giving 99% of Nigerians absolutely nada in return. The SW has realized this and have opted for a model where, even if we are still led by flawed folks, basic development that dignifies humanity, and taken for granted throughout the world, can still be secured.

Your assessment betray the truth. first i don't understand what you mean by Lagos "It is the Center of Nigeria" you seem to me like someone with a palatial access to distort truths. wen Financial Times listed Ibadan as one of the “next 5” cities in Africa because According to the article, the city possesses a “rapidly growing economy but serious business climate deficiencies – that offer some of the biggest potential rewards – provided multinationals can stomach the risks" - you leapfrogged Calabar was never consider a space in the list. so also is your fairy developed city of Calabar, Uyo, Benin City, Warri, Asaba starkly missing on the list. i don't understand why you listed the names of some media mogul but is it fair to your conscience that Galaxy Television, MITV, TVC, THE Nation, Tribune, Newswatch, Compass, City People, Ontv, Punch just to mention but a few is own by Yorubas. And to the airport you must be kidding with your white lies - Uyo airport?
its a knwn truth that democracy of PDP as weaken progress in all the states in Nigeria; it has nothing to do with a particular region or state.
one advice - next time you want to lie say it to a deaf man
You mean you don't know this guy? He once postulated , displaying total dishonesty and pitiful inferiority complex, that Bendelites and Igbos are the brightest technocrats who control everything in Nigeria. Learn to disregard his write-up disguised as an attempt at 'objective discourse'. Dude is an unrepentant bigot willing to lie to himself and others ridiculously just to sooth his inferiority complex. I sometimes wonder the hateful bunker he lives in to the extent reality is totally lost on him.

I don't know how the story of Nigeria can ever be told, regarding any sector you can even consider randomly , yet the Yorubas can be excluded as Papabrowne postulates. He does this all the time i.e show up on any issue to do with the SW to deliver treacherous and logically ridiculous mischief that indicates a delusional mind. See below to note who you are talking to. I.e a self-deluded liar riddled with inferiority complex.

On another thread concerning Fayemi transforming Ekiti with infrastructural endeavours, he claimed it was all lies and required pictures. When shown pictures he shamelessly changed tact to say infrastructural development is not important. Indulge this guy at your own expense. He thrives in la-la land where baseless myth is everything for chest-thumping and deluded losers always eager to ignore reality to go on ridiculous flights of fantasy.

PoliticsRe: Why Nigeria’s Southwest Must Be Integrated by Gbawe: 10:33am On Dec 15, 2012
Guys, while I fully back SW regional integration, I feel we should be gracious about it rather than use it as a thing to spite others with. It is a serious attempt by Yoruba intelligentsia to escape the wretchedness an unwieldy federal structure has lumbered us in. It is important to remember that those actually involved in fine-tuning policies and directives for regional integration are not supremacist concerned more with celebrating an assumed ethnic superiority over others. They are very intelligent men and women, simply some of the most liberal you will ever meet, focused on progress for their people and region. They will not be happy noting their effort celebrated as an attempt to espouse Yoruba superiority.

We should actually hope regional integration works well to even encourage and strengthen others. An Oasis of development cannot exist for long if surrounded by hopelessness. This Oasis will soon be besieged by the problem of others. We best remember that notion when speaking as if we want the SW to make isolated progress while others stagnate. Let us hope this works and let us hope others learn from it to reject persevering with FG indolence so that all regions of Nigeria have a veritable template of development despite the misrule at federal level.
PoliticsRe: Who Do You Trust More: ACN Or PDP by Gbawe:
faraday77: ACN IS TEN TIMES BETTER THAN PDP

For me I see the tinubu figure giving vision and direction to the party. Aside for curruption and Indiscipline which is inherent in every individual Nigerian,ACN is better.
Absolutely correct. Corruption exist in every facet of Nigerian life. Who will not pay a bribe here if it gets things moving for them? When we do that we are showing acceptance of how things work in Nigeria. It should be the same with politics. We should accept corruption is endemic in our politics. If politically sophisticated and pragmatic, we will realise the obvious. For now, we must look for those still delivering and improving on what they met on ground amidst the corruption. In this respect, the ACN is far better than the PDP.

What is most despicable about the PDP is that it is a Party that eats all the money and leaves dilapidation everywhere. Many federal roads are in a wretched state of disrepair, security very poor despite the last budget accommodating the highest allocation by far to security ever !!! Nigeria is generally sinking because PDP is corrupt and inept at the federal level. A very, very bad combination. One without the other can still work i.e corruption without ineptitude. Both together are a disaster for Nigeria and this is what the PDP is. Corrupt, inept and host to the laziest thinkers undeserving of their federal and influential position like GEJ, David Mark, Adoke-Bello et al. Yet some still discuss the PDP as if it begins and ends in their Local government, State or region.

Others, when not localising the PDP, talk of "National spread" to give the deceitful impression of inclusiveness. The talk of "national spread" about the PDP is irksome because those who tout that notion don't see what is obvious. PDP is a congregation of the wealthiest and most influential Nigerians , many from the military or uniformed class, who simply came together to secure their continuous looting of Nigeria's wealth after it became uncool and outdated for the military to hold power in Nigeria or any other African nation for that matter. Why then will the Party not have so-called National spread when it hosts the biggest and most influential thieves everywhere?

Even look at the calibre of folks becoming ACN Governors. The truth is that anyone, any Nation, any State, any political Party or any organisation that keeps persevering with merit will get it right in the end no matter what others say. This is the key to how some African Countries have made and sustained progress i.e shunning mediocrity to seek proven performers and ensuring those performers are also replaced by proven performers. The best template because it raises the bar.
PoliticsRe: Who Do You Trust More: ACN Or PDP by Gbawe:
lagcity: Well, people like you see what they want to see - only Lagos. Look for the ekiti thread created some weeks ago and tell me that small state isn't doing more than the large states. Ekiti has done so well that one can not even compare her to ebonyi , nassarawa and zamfara, which were all created simultaneously. We can only compare with older bigger states and it still beats them.
That is why I never indulge folks like him when they say "what have ACN State done". People of his ilk are not ready for the truth because of their sectional, clannish and perhaps ethnic agenda which means their negative and wrong conclusions about others is guaranteed and nothing you say or show will change their opinion.

Can he pretend to be blind to all that has been revealed here, with pictures, about the performance of Amosun, Fayemi and co? You still will not change the opinion of some if you took the time to show that , in Ogun, brand new hospitals are being built, a BRT scheme was started, teachers are being assisted with car loans, every student now get free quality books, high quality roads are being constructed, exemplary APC's were bought to fight crime, 500 transformers delivered to aid electrification, several modern markets under construction, a mechanic village under construction, loans being made available to budding entrepreneurs, aggressive effort being made to attract investment and industry to the state etc, etc, etc, etc.

Yet you will still see this character repeat the same BS question on another thread. In the end those who are wise realise why his sort love to spread the lie that "only Fashola is working". Even then it is still his ilk who ungraciously continue to call Fashola a flower planter to date while accolades flow in for the Lagos governor from all over the world. This is why I will not waste my time indulging the likes of Afam4eva.

Ultimately, this is what I hate most about NL i.e a congregation of hardened and clannish folks who are happy to lie to themselves and others. We can all have our differences as is natural in life but not to the point of lying or pretending never to see what is good or praiseworthy about others. Anyone not into mischief will readily admit that more should be done but ACN Governors are doing far, far better than their PDP predecessor. People are being showed delivered infrastructure and ongoing construction daily , never attempted by PDP Governors in power for 8 -12 years, yet they mischievously want to taint other Party's with non-performance because they have clannishly and ethnically embraced the hopeless Party of GEJ that , aside a few performing governors, is a big disappointment at the centre since 1999. A bit like the woman with an ugly child who goes around calling everyone else's children ugly to feel good about her situation and her lot.

The excerpt below puts things in perspective but two things will still continue to make some ask "what have ACN Governors done". Ethnic bigotry, since some erroneously continue to view the ACN a "Yoruba Party", and the notion the black man does not like to read.

http://tribune.com.ng/sat/index.php/more-features/9130-ajimobi-the-bridge-builder-.html

Perhaps, the greatest of Ajimobi’s bridge-building penchant is the Mokola flyover bridge. The stretch of road that leads from Challenge, through Ring Road, to Dugbe and through University of Ibadan to Ojoo road, is very strategic to commerce Ibadan.

It is the road that leads in and out of the Northern and Eastern parts of the country. Indeed, the road, at a conservative estimate, must be one of the most plied roads for traffic of merchandise and people. Because of the implosion in population, the Mokola axis, where four footpaths meet (apology to Ola Rotimi’s The gods are not to blame), witnessed heavy human and vehicular traffic. Governments came and went and no one had the sense of direction to halt the drift, until Ajimobi. The last time such a bridge was constructed in Oyo State was under General David Medayese Jemibewon, over 30 years ago.

Awarded to an international contractor of reputation for excellence, CCECC, that bridge is on the verge of completion, with workers working day and night. At completion, it will provide a Lagos-like feel-good feeling to the people of Oyo State, aside its ancillary role of easing traffic.

afam4eva: Only a clannish person will point out that the governors i posted are from the SS and SE. I just named PDP governors that i know are performing to the best of their ability.

The ACN is not also all about about Lagos. It's currently in charge of 6 states. Tell me what those states have achieved thus far.
Something is wrong with you. Typical of those who are vacuously stubborn, ignorant and never wanting to accept obvious and logical correction. The fact is that you cannot make a judgement about the PDP based on SE and SS Governors alone while ignoring the many other worthless Governors the Party has. Doing that means you are simply a dishonest person who does not care for logical thinking or consideration that makes obvious sense. I don't expect a clannish and obdurate person to show class and accept correction. The PDP has to be judged in its entirety and with all its leaders accounted for. Any educated and reasonable person will accept that.
PoliticsRe: Who Do You Trust More: ACN Or PDP by Gbawe:
afam4eva: Compare them to Amaechi, Akpabio, Chime, Rochas, Donald duke etc.
Why is everything about the SE and SS for you? Why on earth are you so clannish all the time? DayoKanu virtually mentioned all the Governors ACN has and you are busy clannishly mentioning SS and SE Governors alone. Is the PDP about SS and SE Governor alone ,who number a handful, or the Many useless Governors the Party has currently and has historically produced throughout Nigeria? Next minute you will claim you are Mr.Nigeria when every damn thing is about the SE and SS for you.

The PDP is not about SS and SE politicians alone. Get that into your head. Any judgement about the Party must be made in relation to all the leaders the Party has produced. It is like foolishly adjudging a family of 15 to be a good family based on 3 decent members of the family while mischievously and fraudulently keeping silent about the 12 other members of the family who are hardened criminals.

@Topic.
I really don't understand some of the responses here and I can only attribute them to lack of political sophistication, ethnic jingoism, "stockholm syndrome" and bastardized mentality that makes Nigerians reason in ways very different to others. PDP is not about your local chapter of the Party or about your Governor alone. It is about the Party killing Nigerians in cold blood with terrorism. It is about a Party that is a "nest of killers". It is a Party that has gulped massive amount of the nations resources , at federal level, since 1999 and given very little in return. The ACN are not saints but are we Nigerians frigging kidding? Are we talking about a PDP operating in the UK and not Nigeria?

Were this silly question be put to citizens of politically sophisticated Nations, then there is only one answer given what the PDP is in its entirety that makes it the Party least worthy of trust in Nigeria.

Top government officials, politicians contract us – Sea pirates
Crime Alert Thursday, December 13, 2012

By Evelyn Usman

The Task Force Team constituted by the Nigerian Maritime And Safety Administration Agency (NIMASA), to checkmate the menace of attacks on vessels on the nation's waterways, recently arrested four suspected members of a dreaded gang of vessel hijackers on both the Nigeria waters and neighboring West African countries' waters.

But to the great surprise is - the suspects displayed an unrepentant and nonchalant attitude towards their arrest, bragging instead.

In their confessional statement, it was observed that the war against illegal bunkering and attacks on vessels on the nation's waterways by the federal government, may never be won unless urgent and stringent measures, beyond mere political statements are taken to checkmate this worrisome trend.

This is because two of the suspects identified as Bless Nube and Sola Sam, alleged that key players in the political and government corridors were their sponsors. Aside this alarming revelation is the temptation of the huge amount each member of the gang gets at the end of a successful vessel hijack.

According to the 27-year-old Bless, who claimed to be the commander of the dreaded syndicate, " I have nothing to hide again. I am the gang's commander and I am second to none in terms of hitting targets. Even Wazo, earlier arrested, is my boy and he can attest to what I am saying"…

He kept mute for a while and when he continued, he said, " I can't remember how many operations I have led, I have lost count of the number of vessels my gang hijacked".

I made N10 Million from the last operation

He confessed to have led his team to several operations some of which took place in the African continent's territorial waters. One of such hijacks took place in Lome, the capital of Togo, involving the vessel, MT Energy Centurion. Hear him: " The last vessel we hijacked was in Lome, Togo and I made N10 Million from that operation". To the amazement of all, he revealed, " that particular operation was sponsored by some powerful people in Nigeria whose names I will not want to mention… Some of them are even in the Presidency.

Government Officials are our informants

He disclosed further that some top government officials usually gave his gang information on vessels before it struck. " We do not work in isolation. We have a network of ministries' workers. What they do is to give us information on the location and content of the vessels to be hijacked. After furnishing us with the information, they would make part payment and after the hijack, they would pay us the balance.

"Once we complete the assignment , we would inform the pointsmen who thereafter, contact the cabal that takes charge of the hijacked vessels. We usually meet at a designated point on the high sea, from where they would offload the contents from the hijacked vessels and thereafter, deposit them in various oil facilities for distribution by oil marketers.

"We are not directly involved in the sale of the product. We only assist to convey the product to the designated point by acting as escorts in case of any confrontation. My gang has about 3000 various weapons which are kept in different parts of the country", he stated. But he did not say where the weapons were precisely.

We kill during hijack

He likened the operation on the high sea to a theatre of war, saying "at times our victims are killed in the process. This is usually when the crew members try to put up resistance", he said, adding that sometimes, the crew members who were armed opened fire on the gang thereby leading to a shoot-out, during which some of them were killed. " So far we have about 1250 trained pirates across the country. And the truth is, no successful vessel hijack operation takes place in Africa without the knowledge of my gang.''

Piracy is a lucrative business

Asked why he had not left the illicit business for a genuine one, he said he was carried away by the huge amount of money made on each operation which usually runs into several millions of naira.

"The code name for piracy is COJA and it is very lucrative just as it is dangerous because one may be confronted by security agents in the process, or even get arrested as I am now. But it will be difficult for the president to win the war. If he must win, then he has to look inward. Lagos state for instance, is a major coastal place where we meet to discuss on our next target . So, government must first search its big men if it is serious in winning the war".

I begged to be enlisted into the gang- Sam

Also arrested was Sola Sam, who claimed he was tempted to join the gang because of the huge amount of money they received. Preliminary investigation revealed that Sam was initially the gang's errand boy.

"But I had to plead with them to enlist me into vessel hijacking when I saw the money they made on each operation. Whenever they were sharing their loot, they would give me just a token. So, I begged them before Bless agreed to enlist me into the group", recalling that "his first operation with the gang fetched him the sum of N2.7 million, out of which he bought a new car."

I was deceived -Olu Ade

On his part, the third suspect, 28-year-old Olu Ade, claimed he was deceived into joining the gang.

Hear him, " It all happened in November 2011, when I was called to carry out repair on the engine of a vessel in Ondo state. But on reaching there, the gang members told me their plan and I could not go back because I was scared they would kill me.

"They took me into a vessel and I watched them arrest the crew members on board. We thereafter, discharged 2000 metric tons from the vessel named MT ROSTARS. After that, another vessel came to receive the product. The receiving vessel's name was CLEAN. After the transaction, we moved to Ondo State and lodged at Wazo's house to collect the money for the transaction and at the end I was paid N1.8 million"

On receiving the money, Olu travelled to Lagos state from where he intended processing a visa to study in Ukraine. But he was reportedly swindled.

Crime Alert gathered that they were arrested in a hotel in Festac Town, while planning for another operation in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Arrested at last

Bless and members of his gang have been having sway for a long time until they were arrested in a hotel in Festac Town in Amuwo odofin Local Government area of Lagos. Bless as gathered was in the company of some sex workers in the hotel when he was apprehended.

The gang as gathered, was at the final stage of its preparation for an attack on a vessel in Cotonou before they were arrested.

The first person to be arrested as gathered was Sam. He was reportedly lured to Lagos, on the pretext that there would be a meeting prior to the operation. Unknown to him, the call was made by a security operative. Next, was Mike, who reportedly called Sam on his mobile phone to know his whereabouts. He was again lured to a designated place in Lagos, only to fall into the arms of the security operatives and thereafter, Olu.

The gang confessed that the foiled operation was contracted to them by a top player in the oil industry for the sum of N16 Million

HNosegbe: I'm shocked that a topic like this did not make front page. What on EARTH are the mods doing?

@ topic, I am for the scrapping of the Land Use Act, but I think we should ask ourselves some important questions. If the old land tenure system was scrapped 34 years ago, then there must have been a reason. We should weigh the pros and cons, compare with what advanced nations are doing and work out a solution that best suits present-day realities.

Mods, front page please.
Well said. A middle ground option is the solution in my opinion. I.e amend the 1978 Land use decree and make it less unwieldy and more able to meet the land use requirement of Nigeria today. The problem, as with everything else, is that leaders play politics with important issues. I especially agree with you that we should look at models that work seamlessly elsewhere where land ownership can be easily established and the transfer of ownership is a straightforward process.

Indeed. In fact, embarrassingly, Nigeria is the one of the very few Countries that springs to my mind, in this day and age, where an apprentice is put in charge of the workshop only for the people to then be expecting miracles. I am ashamed, as a frequent traveller throughout Africa, to note how Nigerians are badly lacking in political sophistication in comparison to others despite our noise.

GEJ will do nothing of note in 2013 simply because he does not have the intelligence, will, sincerity, ability, sagacity or morals to lead at the level he 'luckily' finds himself in. His situation is a damning indictment of the aberration Nigeria is whereby any charlatan can become President because issues remains about a few Oligarchs and "owners of Nigeria" protecting their loot and continued 'livelihood' while the majority go to blazes. The opposite is becoming the norm everywhere with issues revolving more around what is best for the masses.

We should stop fooling ourselves in Nigeria and note why other African Nations are making progress. They have simply stopped gambling with very important offices and are now playing safe going for proven performers with a verifiable history of solutions provision. We let wicked men like OBJ, Anenih et al package a total mediocrity for us only to then be expecting a miracle. I want to cry for Nigeria sometimes when I see, with my own eyes, what obtains in many African Countries we vacuously claim to be superior to with our "giant of Africa" delusions. African leaders are increasingly becoming very, very sophisticated because the bar is being raised in many Africa nations currently. Only the "giant of Africa" wants to remain bucking that trend with it's callous, myopic and greedy ruling class.
It suffices to say that we are by no means on top of the world regarding our system of government or electioneering in Nigeria. We are a young democracy and by any standard, we have improved our election process constantly, thanks to Jega. We obviously have to deal with growing pains which. Insha Allah, we shall overcome.

I have to laugh like OBJ, when the kettle, in the likeness of Afenifere old coots, start calling other pots (aka hoodlums) black. Nonesense. The generation of Afenifere leaders/elders have done more to ruin Nigeria than any so-called hooldlum can ever do. One day go be one day, monkey go go market.......
Ndu chucks, why are you so fond of rounding on the messenger? Is our security challenge not serious? Is it not obvious that the government is failing to mount a robust challenge against crime? Will you, god forbid, be shouting Afenifere when a loved one falls victim to kidnappers or terrorists? No matter who says it, hoodlums are indeed taking over Nigeria. We are better served discussing that instead of attacking the messenger. That is a sign of small-mindedness to me.

Donald7610: Shut ur dirty mouth, idiot slavery ACN

ACN leads in Thuggery
PDP leads in corruption
Why the insult? How does the ACN lead in thuggery in comparison to the "nest of killers"? I don't know why we love rewriting history in Nigeria.

Is it because the ACN have won a few States that you now think we have all developed collective amnesia as regards what obtained in the past? Guy, PDP wrote the book on thuggery, political "do or die" and wanton assassination" hence Woles Soyinka christening the Party " a nest of killers".

It would interest you to know that, OBJ, a PDP President, now running around the world in electoral hypocrisy, conducted an election (2003) so marred with rigging, thuggery, killings and brazen ballot snatching that International observers christened that election " perhaps the worst in the history of man". Abeg do you know what Oyo was under OBJ, Adedibu and the PDP in comparison to what it is today? Ditto for Ogun, Ekiti and Osun under Gbenga daniel, Segun oni and Oyinlola respectively. Some of us have no problem with our memory at all.

Also, is the poster you insulted not generally correct? Is PDP not the Party mainly linked with Boko Haram? Which Party since 1999, has presided over Nigeria's oil income, subsidy payment, NNPC BPD (Barrels per day) allocation and oil bloc allocation?

It is only the claim of kidnapping I don't know much about but the PDP is indeed a "nest of killers".

mrrock: There's definitely a rise in the spate of lawlessness in this country. Those of us that follow events in Nigeria know why.
Make no mistakes the Otedola VS Farouk Lawan saga and compensation to Niger delta militants is a catalyst to this recent huge rise in crime. Needless mentioning the consistent looting of our commonwealth by government officials.
................. Everybody now know that crime pay in Nigeria.
Indeed. An aspect of spiraling crime is the perception ,by those predisposed to committing crime, that this Government , perhaps far more than any other since 1999, is one totally disinterested in moving against offenders. As such kidnapping, corruption, terrorism, financial crime et al will proliferate.

TRUTHTELA: ^^^ There's a word called LEGACY. This president can't do nothing. Someone has to build ( LEAVE A GOOD LEGACY ) for him, then he can build on something. Not people like Obasanjo, that left STEALING, CRIMINAL & ALL MANNER OF EVIL LEGACIES for weaklings to follow. Failure begets FAILURE.
The mistake you make is to think some are concerned about leaving a legacy. If you go and make a man who was a credit card fraudster in the UK (Ibori) Governor of a Nigerian State, what legacy do you think such a chap will be concerned with?

If, on the other hand, we seek intelligent, proven performers with good names and reputations to protect, then we can expect them to naturally consider a good legacy as important.

You say the President "can't do nothing" because someone has to "leave a good legacy" for him. That is outright fallacy. No one owes GEJ any legacy over a job he deliberately hankered to get knowing the challenges. I can list several genuinely transformational things GEJ has total discretion to initiate yet he shuns. It is thus pointless to keep mentioning OBJ, Tinubu, Buhari et al every time the glaring failure of the current government is mooted.

I don't want to believe you are saying GEJ is failing because other did not leave him the greatest conditions on the ground to work with. In saner climes, it is generally accepted you should not accept a job or 'rescue mission', when fully aware of the challenges, if you are incapable of tackling the specifically known and identified problems effectively.

fingard02k: Who's fault?
It is not about looking for who to blame. We are where we are. We should all accept that. If drastic measures are not taken, the inadequate and lackadaisical efforts of government towards the security of lives and property will only hasten our march towards becoming a totally failed State like Somalia where criminals, terrorists and warlords control 'turfs'. With increasing criminality and lawlessness gaining an upper hand in Nigeria, we will all become victims, directly or otherwise, sooner or later.

AKURE—AFENIFERE, a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Wednesday, challenged President Goodluck Jonathan to rise and act fast to stem the spate of insecurity and the wanton destruction of lives and property or face the possibility of hoodlums completely taking over the country.

Secretary-General of the group, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, said the rate at which kidnappers abduct prominent Nigerians and the Boko Haram menace had not only put the lives of people at risk, but also scared away prospective investors.

Arogbofa listed the recent abduction of the mother of Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the wife of former Governor of Western Region, Gen. Oluwole Rotimi (rtd), as examples, which had brought bad publicity to the country.

According to him, “nobody is any longer safe in the country. Just a few days ago, it was the elderly Prof (Mrs) Okonjo that was kidnapped; only yesterday it was the wife of Gen. Oluwole Rotimi, former governor of Western Region.

“In the Northern part of the country, the Boko Haram is in charge and kills with reckless abandon.”

The group asked the President to act decisively before the menace gets out of total control, while expressing concern over the President’s various reactions to insecurity in the country.

The group warned that criminals may take over the country if the government fails to act decidedly.

Arogbofa alleged conspiracy among the criminals and some security agencies in the country.
He said: “More than any time, President Jonathan must not only be seen to be barking but biting if criminality is to be brought under control in the country.

“The President should act, especially by giving red card to the nation’s security officers in particular the Police and prisons officials, while the Bar and the Bench must no longer toy with or rationalise obvious criminal cases.

“While it may be true as said by AIG Tsafe in Abeokuta that ransom paid to criminals to hasten the release of victims is mainly responsible for the rise in kidnapping, is that why the Police, believed to be aware of most criminals in the society, have not always acted swiftly and decidedly when criminals strike?

Th main problem with Nigeria is that too much of our National income is used to maintain hideous opulence for a few connected to governance. It is only when we gain a genuinely reform-minded President, able to build from the ground up and lead by example, that things will change for the better.

I don't understand those openly displaying bad belle for Seun and his forum here. It is his platform and he can do what he wants with it. He may not even be motivated by what some assume he is. He may have other endeavours that means this might be a hobby to him. Many here are too into pessimism and making negative assumptions about others when they may be zeros themselves with no achievement to their names, whatsoever, in life.

A bit like the frustrated 9-5 man, too scared to take risk, having a go at Richard Branson, Tony Elumelu or Mo Ibrahim.

Blackteeth: Did you see the part in bold? What makes you think that the beautiful ones are not yet born? In my opinion they were born since Nigeria was born. They simply refrained from politics because in your own words; "it is has been bastardized to be a get-rich-quick scheme for a few". If the good folks sit back and watch devils run governance then where would change come from? The good guys need to participate to neutralize the high concentration devils in the political affairs of the country before we start seeing any signs of progress. If you keep adding fresh water to a cup of poison we should expect that eventually the cup would contain fresh water and not the poison anymore.
I don't literally mean the beautiful ones are not born because that would imply Nigeria does not currently have decent folks who can do well as political leaders.

My point is that we cannot say the beautiful ones are born if the system cannot accommodate them. We all have a duty of playing our part to help Nigeria evolve the appropriate political system that will accommodate "good guys" as the norm.

If the followers understand the concept of the 'lesser devil' then it will get us out of trouble to help eventually develop a political Arena where the beautiful one will thrive. If we continue to purge our politics by shunning mediocrity and consistently electing proven performers, then we create a self-healing system that will respond to the evolutionary trends most thriving world Nation have gone through. Hankering for ultra-saintly folks to get into our politics is a bit self-defeatist because those entirely married to principles to the point of inflexibility will simply not last in our current Political arena.
PoliticsRe: Should Good Men And Women Stay Away From Nigerian Politics? by Gbawe: 6:34pm On Dec 12, 2012
@OP.

We need to set emotions aside and understand that, for now, we must simply support the lesser devils till the beautiful ones are born. We must learn to move from A to B. pointless being stuck at point A and insisting you belong at Z. 'Saints' cannot thrive in politics because it has been bastardized to be a get-rich-quick scheme for a few. Naturally, that sort of environment will attract crooks, layabouts and desperado while repelling decent men and women.

Given the reality of our politics that you highlight, it is futile to rant and curse all day like mad creatures. What each and everyone of us should do is to first pragmatically accept what Nigerian politics is about currently i.e a congregation of corrupt folks, gangsters, jobbers and opportunists.

The next thing to then identify, among those 'undesirables', are the leaders still delivering or able to deliver progress and development. If we do this then evolution and improving political sophistication will do the rest and we will ultimately begin to see the good guys becoming the mainstay in our politics.
PoliticsRe: Can Sule Lamido Save Nigeria? by Gbawe:
Why are we always looking for 'saviours' and messiahs in Nigeria? Is it our over-reliance on religion and belief in the supernatural or that we do not understand?

Why can we not simply begin any search for a President with a thorough, logical and fact-based inquisition into the background and achievements of prospective candidates?

It should not be about the system churning out names acceptable to them while the rest of us then go on a merry and naive dance contributing to an anointing ceremony favouring those who wish to keep us down.

It is how we got the "boy with no shoes". We should now be beyond the level where we vote or back candidates based on airy speech and flowery yet vacuous talk. We must thoroughly scrutinise the history of candidates to support those with the proven ability to innovatively solve problems and provide adequate solutions.

Conversely, we should be ready to automatically reject those, even if backed by the greatest spin machine, who are mediocrity personified. African Nations that have not moved beyond 'gambling' with their top political positions hardly see progress.

@General Buhari.

You are absolutely right that "IBB = evil".

I think some of the military old boys ( OBJ, IBB et al) have done and continue to do grave damage to Nigeria. They should be totally neutralised but political sophistication seems to be coming to Nigeria extremely slowly because of our unique challenges others do not face.
