I’ve been working as a teacher for the past ten years. It was through teaching that I’ve been able to build my family—I’m married and have two children. My wife is currently not doing anything substantial financially, so most of the financial responsibility falls on me.

Over the years, I’ve been able to save about ₦5 million, but that money didn’t come from my basic salary alone. My salary from the school where I teach is ₦200,000 per month, while I make roughly ₦400,000 monthly from home lessons. So, altogether, I earn over ₦600,000 a month.

The problem is that I’m becoming tired of the home lessons. I want to stop going from house to house after school, go home when school closes, and have more time for myself and my family. However, I also need something that can replace the income I currently make from home lessons.

I’m therefore looking for a side hustle or business that has the potential to generate a substantial amount of money—ideally something that can eventually replace the roughly ₦400,000 I currently make from home lessons. I don’t mind investing a significant portion of my savings into something worthwhile, as long as there is a realistic opportunity for it to generate good returns.

One idea I’ve been considering is using about 5 million to buy a minibus. The plan would be to go home after school around 3 p.m., use the bus to make some runs until around 8 or 9 p.m., and hopefully generate additional income from it.

At the same time, I’ve also been thinking about learning an IT skill. I’m willing to invest money in proper training and equipment if necessary, with the goal of eventually making good money from the skill, possibly remotely.

So basically, I’m at a point where I want to transition away from home lessons, but I don’t want to do that without having another reliable source of income to replace what I’m currently making.

I would really appreciate advice from people who have experience with businesses, side hustles, IT, transportation, or other income-generating opportunities. What would you recommend I consider in my situation?
