Chreze:It really does depend on the company. If you work for a private company you are not going to get too much lax treatment because of a bereavement especially if you have just started. You are also not going to get paid leave off when you haven’t earned it. And neither will they feel the need to give you non-paid leave since you mentioned you are still in your probation period. I would suggest reading up in your company’s policy to see how they operate on such matters. Never assume it is your right to take time off for a bereavement just because you have signed an employment contract. If the company does operate such bereavement policy, then in most cases you would only get a day off to attend the funeral and we know a day is not enough to travel to Nigeria. |

Vibra:Wilko do cheap hot water bottles and blankets Pound shops are also worth a try Can also try ebay UK Cheap Winter clothing..try Primark for Second hand clothes store. Amazon UK is good but if you find anything on there, try and do a comparison with ebay UK because most times Amazon is more expensive. |
girlsupersonic: Geebee5:If you are just looking for a steady job to relax with a stable income but with little to no Job progression, the NHS is good. However, my advise would be to just to use such jobs to wet your feet in the UK corporate world. Understand the technology and how it is applied to different sectors, take advantage of any free training available and use the NHS to pay for your professional certifications which will stand out on your CV. Then bounce after 3 years to go IT Contracting..up £500+ per day or apply for investment banking jobs with call for Data Architects, Data Analysts, Data Management, where you can earn around £100k+ base salary easily. I posted a link to a UK Govt sponsored free skills bootcamp further. The requirements appear to be that one must have the legal right to work in the UK which I assume most in this thread do. If anyone has the brain power to take advantage of these boot camps then please do as they would be highly beneficial and put you in good standing when it comes to applying for Tech roles which pay very well when compared to others. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/find-a-skills-bootcamp |
lightnlife:Some companies do. I know some who work in big investment banks in Canary Wharf & in the City of London who get extremely healthy bonuses. Think 10% of your yearly salary in one go every year + other incentives. Some Public sector companies such as TfL also pay 13 times a year and bonuses are part of their contracts. https://tfl.taleo.net/careersection/external/jobdetail.ftl?job=040582&tz=GMT%2B00%3A00&tzname=Europe%2FLondon ^^ This TfL job is offering UK sponsorship so if anyone has the skills required please go for it. You get free London travel with TfL for yourself and partner. Your dependents under 24 in full time education also get 75% of travel across London , Pension contribution and other good benefits including 6 weeks paid holiday....enough for you to go and do detty december in Naija, come back to relax small before resuming work . They also pay 13 times a year and give staff bonuses but not as healthy as those in investment banking but still something. |
1Sharon:The thing is if a Nigerian travels to the UK and stays in communities with a high influx of Nigerians, you begin to think that that is all there is to it. But you are mistaken. Then 2021 census states that 14.% of the UK population is foreign born..around 9.5 million out of 70mill and this figure includes other races and not just black or Asian as many are born in Europe. In total the number of Black people in the UK is still under 3% (Africans & Caribbeans both foreign and UK born ) so don't don't be fooled into thinking Nigerians or even Black people are majority because of the area you live in as that will never be allowed to be the case. |
ELff:Doh. |
ELff:If he paid then he should have a record of that payment associated with the reg of the car. Ask him to show you the reciepts. |
Geebee5:Stay with the Private company. Too much politics with NHS and the powers that be there may be racist. |
ELff:You are still referring to this person as your friend? He clearly ripped you off. Tell him to at least refund you the money for the tax. |
sweetgala:Are you slow or what? Read again and this time comprehend. No be to only look at the words and then respond with nonsense. “ . Babysitters can also be held liable if a child dies or suffers injury in a drowning incident because the caretaker failed to monitor the child closely, or if the child suffers a variety of other accidents that could have been prevented with adequate supervision." From the website of a US law firm |
sweetgala:No, the case here is that Ifeanyi's Nanny while on duty, just like Jessice Tata, left her ward unattended and this resulted in the death of child/children. Again as I said stop defending nonsense. The Nanny is culpable not keeping her eyes on the child she was paid to look after. Just like Jessica Tata and other negligent Nannies I hope she gets a well deserved sentence. May Baby Ifeanyi RIP Other cases where Nannies were found guilty of not doing their job, where the child died. Since you love speaking from an American perspective, here is how the law would be applied if Ifeanyi had died in America while under the care of a Nanny. https://klgflorida.com/babysitters-and-negligence-cases-what-to-know/ Negligence in Failure of Supervision Failure to properly supervise is one of the most common cause of negligence. Inadequate supervision can result in tragic accidents, such as drowning, drinking poisonous household products, starting a fire, electrocution, falling and other injuries. Negligence also includes leaving a child unattended in a hot car. It is the babysitter’s duty to keep their eye on the child at all times, and a babysitter can be found negligent if injury or death occurs from failing to properly supervise those under their care. "Negligence in Dangerous Situations Child care near potentially dangerous environments, such as a pool or ocean, have stricter supervision requirements. A babysitter may also be responsible for a child’s injuries sustained during a car accident if it was the caretaker’s fault, and parents can sometimes sue for further damages." https://greenbergandstein.com/babysitter-lawsuits-negligence-and-child-endangerment/ "Recently, a babysitter liability case made headlines after a 19-year-old sitter in Orange County kept a gun out at the house where she was watching a five-year-old boy. The teen claims that she had a gun on the table because she was scared about the possibility of a robbery or attacker. Yet she made a grave mistake when she left the gun on the coffee table and chose to take a nap, allowing the five-year-old to wander around the house unsupervised. The child picked up the gun and accidentally set it off. This mistake cost the little boy his life. The babysitter is now being charged with a state felony for abandoning and endangering the child. Babysitters can also be held liable if a child dies or suffers injury in a drowning incident because the caretaker failed to monitor the child closely, or if the child suffers a variety of other accidents that could have been prevented with adequate supervision." |
baby124:You are the one who is ignorant As you don’t seem to comprehend that ‘slavery’ means working for free. I am sure Jessica Tata, a Nigerian Nanny who is currently serving 80 years in an American Prison for 4 children who died in her home shared the same mindset as you. Read up on her. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jessica-tata-sentenced-woman-gets-80-years-for-deadly-texas-day-care-fire/ Also unless you have proof that this particular Nanny was working for free then Kindly stfu and stop defending BS. Somebody applied to do a job and failed to fulfil their responsibilities of the said job in the most grandiose of ways, resulting in the death of a child and you are coming here to spew nonsense about slavery. I no blame you. |
baby124:Where does it state that Nannies are not allowed to work more than a regular day's shift? What constitutes a 'shift'? is it 8 hours or 2 during the day or night? How do you know that she wasn't a live-in Nanny? Do you know the terms and conditions of the Nanny's employment because you are making a load of baseless assumptions? No there is no law that states that one must have multiple Nannies for one child..you are just making shit up now This Nanny don kill person pickin finish and she now wants to claim human and labou rights...we shall see now. |
baby124:Absolute BS. If a Nanny is on duty and getting paid then she should pay attention to the job at hand. They no send her to apply for the job. In this case, the Nanny had a 3 year old child who she was assigned to provide care to and to make sure he came to no harm. Instead she recklessly releieved herself of the duty she was being paid for and went to answer a call for 20 mins. That is negligence at its finest. Slavery you say? Unless the Nanny was not being paid then how can she claim Slavery? No be she apply for the job and was collecting Salary? Nigerians! See entitlement. Meghan's mother does not look after her kids. She has a Nanny. Nanny's are professionally regulated, referenced and vetted in other parts of the world and they get paid very hefty salaries up to around $200k plus free accomodation, food and travel. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9295685/Nannies-rich-famous-reveal-luxurious-perks-job.html They even have colleges for Nannies. No be anyhow job. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agLUDl4YpQg The link you posted says nothing about Nannies not being left alone with a child so why did you post it? |
baby124:Fancy applying to do a job and then complaining? The woman signed up to be a Nanny and the typical duties of a nanny is to provide 1-2-1 24 hour care of a child in their care. What do you mean it is not her child? That is just like a bus driver given an assignment to drive a bus across the country and then complaining that he is tired and that it is not his bus so why should he kill himself. Or you hire a chef and they complain that they are too tired to cook, plus it is not their food so why should they stress themselves Or you hire gateman to watch your property overnight but the stress is too much for him so sleeps on the job because no be im house sef abi? Prince Harry & Meghan travel often without their children who are left with Nanny's. Nothing dey there. Do you think if anything happened to Prince Harry's child while in the care of the Nanny while he and his wife were away, people would be making excuses for her? |
ibechris:This is a very backward and dated mindset. It is not a crime to leave your child in the care of a Nanny in any part of the world. Why do you think daycare facilities and nurseries exist? You talk of abroad but Mary Poppins nko? Nonsense! |
ISTP:What a stupid unintelligent view. So because I didn't wish a child I don't know personally HBD, I can't be sad and express sadness at the horrendus death of an innocent child? |
olaadegoke47:No stranger is going to do that for you. If you have a close relative who drives, you could ask them to add you to theirs but they may be reluctant. My only advice is to check for the minimum level of cover that the law allows which is 3rd party, fire and theft which is most times cheaper. However that covers damage to another person’s car, along with compensation costs for injuries to other people. Your vehicle will not be covered at all. |
hustla:It says to check with the trainer to be sure and it also says the bolded below are aged 19 or over have the right to work in the UK live in England meet residency requirements – the training provider can check this |
Hi Some of you here may be eligible and meet residency requirements to apply for the free skills boot camps below. This would be good for young adults (19+) as well so feel free to pass on. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/find-a-skills-bootcamp |
rickleye:I believe a full autopsy is warranted to understand how the child died. I sincerely believe that someone hurt that child and put him in the pool to make it seem like an accident. A 3 year old child is just not going to get up in the middle of the night to go for swim without an adult. 3 year old's get sense pass that one. Unlike Dbanj's son who had just turned 1, the mind of. 3 Year old is more developed and would somehow sense that getting into the pool at night was a big no no without an adult around. And so in that respect, full autopsy is warranted because those that hurt that child can not be allowed to get away with their evil deed. |
Romanoff:That's it in a nutshell. The Nanny is negligent and should be held 100% accountable as it was her sole responsibilty as stated in her job description as the "Nanny" to provide 1-2-1 24 hour care to the child. rule no.1 should have been not to let the child out of her sight for even a second. |

oz4real83:What are you talking about? It is your environmemt that dictates your accent not your heritage or skin colour. Rishi has an English accent as he was born and raised in the UK. |
Amarathripple0:You can pay in installments or lump sum if easier using the stragety which @koonbey posted above . You have to be a UK resident and tax payer to open an LISA. I can't see any rules where it says legal immigrants or international students are forbidden to open one but you could make enquiries among your peers or if on a student visa with your educational establishment just to be on the safe side. |
semmyk:Thanks for quoting me but there was some typos in my post which I have corrected. |
hustla:Always best to do your research but from my experience, once over 30, Lenders/brokers start looking at retirement age and ask when you will be able to pay off the balance. This is for residential properties. Most retire at 65..used to be enforced but not anymore so you could convince them that you will retire at 70 (doesn't have to be your intent and it not law breaking). Also if you have a work pension, you can tell lenders how much it is worth and convince them that you will use that to clear your balance when you retire..again doesn't have to be true. The goal is to just get your leg on the property ladder and hustle your way up from there. For Buy to Let Properties, Lenders require 25% and you could possibly take out the longest term mortgage which is 40 years regardless of your age if you can show proof that the rental income will more than cover your payments. Another tip, if looking to acquire more than 3 rental properties, try to buy them with a ltd company you can create, that way HMRC won't hit you so much where it hurts when it comes to tax assessment time. re: buying 1-2 bed. It is really to what you want to achieve. If I were single, I would buy a property with more than one room as I could want rent one out. LISA is for 18-39 years olds. If you & partner can save £4k per year(£83 per week) each for 3 years you could receive around £6k free from the Government over the course of that time. So in 3 years you both would have a combined £30k for a deposit. This is is a 25% increase on your money which you won't get if the money is just sitting in an ordinary bank account. This deposit can only be used for residential properties though but as I said you can still rent out a room. When I was small I remember some strange people living in our upstairs rooms. It was only when I got older that I realised that my Dad had rented out two rooms to help him cover the mortage payments. With most mortgages you can overpay up to 10% each year without penalty. So if your mortgage is around £200k and overpaying is not going to amount to be over £20k per year (£1666 extra per month) you'll be within your mortgage agreement. Also never pay for a broker as there are very free ones around like "L&C Mortgages" who are paid by the Lenders to find customers or you could just approach a bank directly. |
