juman:If family kidney issues were a problem then that would have been laid bare in court and evidence to back it up would have been presented by the defence. |
To those of you labelling the boy as wicked because he excercised his human right not to donate his God given body part. This is the fate of the other Nigerian who donated to the convicted Doctor Obinna Obeta. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65015489.amp "As for the young Nigerian who was flown to London to provide a kidney for Dr Obeta, the BBC found him living in a small east London flat with condensation on the windows, still suffering from pain and weakness, the consequences of giving up a vital organ." Anyone siding with the Ekweremadu and blaming the victim, I pray none of your loved ones ever fall victim to evil rich selfish Nigerian politicans who are only out to use you for spare parts and disposable assets. |
omonnakoda:Thank you! Reading some of the comments from some Nigerians really made me think that some of us indeed lack critical thinking skills...all thise "he agreed", "he gave his consent", 'He was not forced" as if they are talking about someone agreeing to borrow another a pair of shoes and not a critical body organ of which the lack of could reduce the quality of life or end it completely. I tire. I just hope this case also serves to educate Nigerians about organ donation, the restrictions and the consequences and health implications that are involved as well as world of human trafficking for the purpose of illegally procuring organs for the rich. |

You try for this update. Does anyone know if the court transcripts are available online? |
1Sharon:Thanks for the article. This is more because many black people do not offer to donate their organs even after death. By Law, everyone in the UK is a potential donor (after unexpected death) unless they specifically opt-out, which I assume most do. In anycase Sonia has the means to travel to a country where this is allowed. Many people have kidney transfers in Nigeria as well so I am at a lost as to why they chose to do this in the UK where it is illegal. |
1Sharon:I don't think there is any data on how long it takes for a black person to receive an organ in the West. Do you have visibility of such data?? If her name is on the list then she should have waited her turn. Another thing, since Sonya is not a British citizen, (British citzens are not allowed to pay for an organ in any part of the world) she should have travelled to somewhere it is legal to buy an organ if that were the route they wanted to take. Iran is the only country which allows the sale of human organs so with Daddy's money she should have gone there, got the operation and came back to the UK to continue her studies without issue. |
DIKEnaWAR:Everyone keeps saying this without realising that any 'good' hospital with stringent policies and good moral medical staff, whether that be in Nigeria or elsewhere in the world would not agree to harvest the organ of a young man for the sum of money. Only corrupt hospitals with corrupt medical staff would do that. Sonia should have put her name on the donor list to wait for a kidney, which in most cases would come from someone who has given consent for their organ to be donated only after unexpected death because living altruistic donors are few and far between |
kwakudtraveller:Possible but check to see how much tax you will be charged as it may not be worth it...unless the second job is off the record.. |
taif:You may be better off taking a domestic flight to the nearest airport in your North Yorkshire location or perhaps a train from one of the mainline stations (kings Cross, Euston etc). Use google maps to find out the fastest way to get to your destination from heathrow. |
rezzy:me too. I am enjoying them Go @Lexusgs430 |
Nigeria where life is cheap. 7 women died just like that. Yet no report of their names, their families etc. Just 7 died and then tomorrow we will move on to the next why the nameless families suffer in silence with no one to be held accountable for the deaths of their loved ones. No lessons learned so that safety measures can be put in place to prevent such tragedies from happening. Very sad. RIP to the victims |
Meogom:Obey the speed limit, obey road signs, use your mirrors and always check before you park to ensure that you aren't in breach. Those parking fines are not a joke. If you are in London, check you don't go into the congestion zone without paying the charge and that if your car is not ulez compliant before you enter certain parts of the city, ensure that is paid too. |
koonbey:The context was clear,..said person is blind, on a student visa and believes that this disability would allow them to apply for council housing...what other context are you looking for? That being said, are you trying to direct me on how to answer a question posed on a public forum? Since when did that become your job? So you didn't like the way I responded however my views are valid just as yours are and as I said not every answer or view is going to tally up with what you feel is appropriate or not so learn to live and let live. No one made you Lord Mayor of Nairaland. |
jedisco:The OP needs to do their own research but Dettol antiseptic liquid can be used long term for baths when diluted with water. It basically says so on the label and has been used for that purpose since it was created. My mother used it when she first took us to Nigeria and I used it on my children as well. I understand the concern about mouthwashing on children but again, one only needs a drop of dettol to disinfect a large bucket of water so swallowing shouldn't present a major concern. Water contamination is a huge issue in Nigeria especially in areas where clean running water is not the norm so it is best to be safe than sorry especially for those who are not used to the Nigerian climate as they don't have the same immune systems. "Dettol Antiseptic Disinfectant Household Grade - Cleanses & helps protect against infection from cuts, scratches & insect bites. - Kills germs on household surfaces. For use as a gentle antiseptic on the skin. Also suitable as a household disinfectant. - To feel refreshed and really clean, 30ml of Dettol Liquid may be used safely in the bath. - To freshen linen, nappies or other laundry items add 30ml of Dettol Liquid to the rinse cycle." https://www.dettol.com.au/personal-hygiene/first-aid-antiseptics/dettol-classic-antiseptic-liquid-250ml/ |
STENON:I have never travelled with a baby before but I think it should be ok as long as you have the means to keep them cool, dehydrated and away from mosquitoes. Stay away from pure water in sachets as one can not be sure from where it was sourced. My 9 year old son suffered severe diarrohea when my inlaw allowed him to drink some when I wasn't present. Up until that point, he was fine drinking 'Eva' bottled water. Disinfect bath water with dettol. Speaking from experience when in Lagos, the water (not tap water) left me and kids with an itchy rash all over. The water was ok when I went to Anambra and Imo State but I still made sure all bath and wash water was disinfected with dettol. We even brushed our teeth with disinfected water or used bottled water. Buy bands to wear around the wrists to keep away mosquitoes. Mosquito repellant to spray on the body is a must. You'll be sick of the smell after a while but worth it. Also wear long sleeves at night as that is when Mosquitos really come out Seek advice from your GP as to what injections you need at least 8 weeks before travel. I made sure my kids were vaccinated against typhoid, malaria etc but didn't take anything myself as prefer my immune system to fight it off. Plus I am extra cautious unlike kids who will most likely love the freedom of running around playing with other kids in the sand as the case in many rural Nigerian settings |
koonbey:I never knew 'entitlement' was such a bad word. I personally don't see the point in one asking questions in a forum such as this and not expecting to receive direct and honest answers no matter how harsh. Welcome to the UK...where people don't piss about with directness, bluntness or pepper each sentence with religious references to soften blows. The facts remain as given to by the person to posed the question Said Lady is blind and has come from Nigeria Whether she stated she was blind on her visa application is unclear, however she is on a student visa But she believes that her disability should be give her the right to apply for council housing where the some Housing lists in areas are years long and priority is normally given to UK citizens, some of who may also be disabled. How will that work please? Will a parent who barely has enough to sustain their home abandon their own children to make way for someone who 'CHOSE' to come and stay in their house? |
Chikadibia21:You will find out soon that empathy is irrevelent when it comes to who is entitled to UK Public funds. The lady knew she was blind when she decided to apply for a visa to enter into a foreign land and she should have made her own arrangements and not banked on the assistance of a foreign government. |
AgentXxx:I don’t understand the reasoning why someone who is a non-Uk citizen would enter the country and assume that their disability immediately gave them the right to apply for public housing. Like there isn’t already a social housing shortage with priority given to their own citizens who are disabled or vulnerable? It is the entitlement for me sha. |
Uzomarrr12345:Nothing wrong with paying to have clean running water in your home with flushing toilets and to have the sewage taken away instantly. I am sure many Nigerians in Nigeria would rather pay for this service than to invest in water tankers in the home and to constantly pay Mallams to fether water or have to physically fetch water themselves on a daily basis. "60 million Nigerians without access to basic drinking water and 80 million people without improved sanitation facilities" https://www.worldbank.org/en/news/feature/2021/05/26/nigeria-ensuring-water-sanitation-and-hygiene-for-all |
Uzomarrr12345:Critical thinking skills need to be applied here. Why are you comparing what a buiness earns in a month to what someone receieves in their hand, tax and overhead free? Businesses are liable to pay wages, pay for new stock, overheards, rent and energy bills etc. Someone receiving half a million naira in their hand from a relative abroad does not have those types of business expenses Also £15 for a sim card is cheap as it is one-off cost which keeps you connected. One can even use free data which many organisations make available without having to worry about buying data every so often. |
ahiboilandgas:The way one dies matters. Police in Nigeria shot and killed an innocent pregnant woman in front of her family. There was no ambulance to take her to the hospital She was refused admission to two hospitals who could not deal with her injury and she eventually died before reaching the 3rd hospital The lady in Liverpool was shot randomly by a criminal. Police have already arrested two suspects. Big difference |
DoubleN:If you are into Theatre go and see the Bob Marley 'Get up Stand Up' show in Central London. Other good shows include the Lion King, Matilda, (good for kids) or Tina Turner Visit Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park...amazing. Lots of rides, food, ice-skating etc The O2 at Greenwich for discounted shopping, trampoline centre, cinema, lots of places to eat, bowling and other entertainment including climbing the roof of the o2. Depending on where you are, visit Westfield in Shepherd's Bush (west London) or Stratford (east london), plenty of shops in both and places rto eat plus cinema and other entertainment. West London is the more classier Westfield sha Other notable large shopping centres just outside London are Bluewater in Kent or Lakeside in Essex. Visit museums -National Art Gallery at Trafalgar Square, National History Museum, Museum of London, London Transport Museum etc Harry Potter Tour of Warner Bros Studios Legoland- just outside London, in Windsor Sealife -London Aquarium The London Dungeon The Tower of London Madame Tussards- Baker Street, London The Cutty Sark in Greenwich There are lots to do so can't list all here. It depends of what you are in to, how much you want to spend and how long you are here for. Check out https://www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do |
ttoyetade:If he has a working partner then it is possible. |
ahiboilandgas:The woman who was killed in Bristol was not killed directly and intently by police as the lady in Nigeria. She was also not transferred hospital to hospital because they were unable to treat her before she died. Unlike the lady in Nigeria who could have been saved had she recieved treatment at the first hospital she was taken to.... Ambulance no even dey to carry that poor woman sef and the man had to abandon his small children to take his wife to the hospital....stop comparing apples with oranges...Nigeria and UK are not mates. |
frankson1:There are humans who behaved like wild animals everywhere even in so-called sane countries. However the difference here is that a full investigation will take place and at least someone will be held accountable for the death of this precious young beautiful mother. RIP Rebecca. |
Progressivegee:Obvious gaslighting. Refer them to section 1.5.4 of the contract and reinstate your rights to them. "Dear Mr.Bleep Please refer to section 1.5.4 of the Bleep company employment contract which I signed on the *date*. As you can deduce, this was signed less than 3 months ago so therefore I am only legally obliged to a week's notice as per terms and conditions of the stated contract..........." Then add whatever it is you require from them etc. Tell them that you expect to be paid any money owed and threaten to take them to an employment tribunal |
blueAgent:UK and US are two different places. try to establish that first because that is like us discussing what happened in Nigeria and you asking me to read what happened in The Gambia. |
blueAgent:People have the right to speak out on whatever they consider racist or not. Asking a Person born and rasied in Britian to state their origin, even though the person has already told them that they are British is racist. Nobody would aks a White South African in who claimed to be African that question but somehow it is ok to frustate Black British people. |
blueAgent:Your thoughts are valid. However you are either speaking as an immigrant or someone who has not left Nigeria. You need to understand that black people are not monoliths. What you see as an obsession is actually someone’s legal birthright. Just like no one questions a white man who claims to be a proud South African by right of birth, no one has the right to question why a black person born and raised in Britain claims British or labels them to be an obsessive over that fact. Stay in your lane and speak on immigrant matters only and not things you clearly don’t understand the nuances of. |
