TookDownYourMum:
These Francophone countries were already politically unstable to begin with and going to war with Niger will just destabilize the entire region and create a massive refugee crisis which the Jihadists will take advantage of. The sanctions placed on Niger has already been seeing effects on ground. Food inflation has skyrocketed. The Chinese have stopped working on the Niger Dam. Elecricity has been cut off from Niger now they are seeing constant blackouts. 90% of Niger's budget that came from International foreign aid has been cut off. The World Bank and IMF has stopped all development loans in Niger and the state is virtually bankrupt isolated from the financial system. France can increase their uriarium from Canada, Australia, and Kazakhstan decreasing Niger share in the world market. They won't survive under sanctions for 6 months since Niger (land-locked nation) is a highly dependant country on foreign aid. Rebels in the country are beginning to get impatient with the Junta over the sanctions placed on their country from ECOWAS and US and its allies EU nations, Japan, and S.Korea that hold most of the world's share of nominal GDP.

The Mali Junta can make big threats but in reality they can't afford to aid another country in a war considering 40% of Mali is already under Terrorist and Seperarist control nor do they have the budget, manpower, or logistics to do so. So, its all hot air.

If Mali goes back on their word in 2025 and postpones it again, ECOWAS can just easily place the sanctions back onto their country.
Yes I agree with your argument in principle and it's more logical to me than the other opposing arguments here. I also support this pathway now thinking about it. The only problem would be if Mali, Burkinafaso, and Niger, begin to establish ties with Wagner and North Korea. That is also a possibility.

The vawulence have started already with Nigeria claiming Amapiano like they did with Afrobeat 😂🤣
Afrobeat is Fela, a Nigerian, nothing to claim there😋. You can argue he was influenced by America and West African countries but afrobeat itself traces back to him.
For Amapiano, everyone knows it's South Africa.

As it is now with the CBN removing the embargo on oil companies selling Dollars to banks, the Naira should appreciate between 10%-15% by the end of the year.. The CBN just need to monitor the banks and sanction/punish any bank that try to sabotage this policy for their own selfish reason....
Dunno if it would be immediate though. They have backlogs to pay and there are also maturing debts this month (500 million dollars).

We'll see what will happen with time. The states especially would breathe a sigh of relief. They were really struggling to meet their debt obligations, pay salaries on time, and implement their budget. With the subsidy gone, that would mean they get to share an extra N400bn which would mean a lot to the new admins, civil servants and pensioners in particular who have had their salaries delayed or not been paid at all sometimes running Into months.
I read somewhere this morning that PMS prices might double soon in Benin Republic 🇧🇯.
Benin have been having relatively cheap fuel compared to Ghana, Mali, and others grin.

Kenya's stock market capitalization is $17B. The biggest company after 8 south African and one Moroccan is Safaricom at position 10 - in SMC. Nigeria has nothing.

Now remove South Africa's MTN and dangote firm. cool
Convert 1.75 trillion shillings to dollars using 130 shillings for Q1 2023 average. It's definitely not up to 15 Billion dollars.

That was few years ago. I think you're now mostly retreating and divesting.

Again when it comes to Africa countries investing in other Africa countries - Kenya is second to South Africa.
Nigerian Banks, Dangote, Silverbird, and Nigerian Fintech companies like Interswitch and Flutterwave are widespread on the continent and aside Safaricom in Kenya, these are way bigger firms than firms in Kenya.

Kenyan so called outward investments are next to nothing. Because if we remove South Africa from Subsaharan Africa, you have only 5 companies from Kenya making the top 30 companies in Subsaharan Africa. By the time NNPC Limited gets listed on the Nigerian stock exchange, only MTN and the likes of Naspers may compete with them. When Dangote refinery gets listed on the London stock exchange later on, there would be no competition in Africa.

The market capitalisation of the Top 30 companies for September 2021 was US$98.3bn following the inclusion of MTN Group in the Top 30.

Nigeria had the highest entry on the list with 12 companies, followed by Kenya with made 5 companies, and Tanzania with 3 companies.

Tanzania just don't know English. Don't get angry when confronted with facts.Kenya maybe not be native English speakers but we are very good in our native language, Swahili n English.Kenya fiber to home connection already exceed a million out of 12 million households n maybe another 2 million businesses enterprises. Kenya is working towards ensuring fiber reaches everyone soon.We have maybe 10m household with electricity meters..we will string fiber along the electricity line. That way kenya investment in education pays.Already kenya are well regarded in academic writing or cheating...Kenya are also leading in online work..crypto..of course Africa best quality of education. Tanzania please review your failed education system..you cannot teach kids in swahili for 10 years then switch to English in last four years...decide..stick to Swahili or English
I wonder where you get this idea that Kenya is leading Africa in Crypto.

1. Nigeria - 13 million

According to Triple-A, Nigeria has more cryptocurrency holders than any other African country. Yes, in Nigeria, more than 10 million people own cryptocurrency despite the ban by the country’s apex bank. Nigeria is also the #1 country worldwide in terms of the number of people searching for “Bitcoin” and “Crypto” keywords on Google.

2. Kenya - 4.5million

Second on the list is Kenya, with an estimated 4.5 million people owning cryptocurrency. Kenya leads the way in terms of holdings and blockchain-related transactions and ranks among the top African countries for trading volume on peer-to-peer platforms. Kenya also ranks within the top ten worldwide on the topic of “cryptocurrency” on Google.

3. South Africa - 4.2million

Kenyans in areas bordering Tanzania are sourcing basic items from the neighbouring country after the government gazetted new stamp fees on 14 categories of goods last week.

Some of the products are getting into the country illegally, costing the government millions of shillings in revenue.

Businesspeople in Lunga Lunga, parts of the South Coast and Taveta are buying basics like cooking oil, sugar, soap, detergent and maize and wheat flour from Tanzania at cheaper prices compared to Kenya.

Updated IMF live gdp (data based on IMF but updated every quarter to show true data).

Going by this data, Nigeria has surpassed Ghana's gdp per capita for the first time in years. Nigerian gdp per capita is 2224 dollars and Ghana reduced from last year to 2201 dollars. South African gdp (regressing) now down to 403 Billion dollars, that of Nigeria is 485 Billion dollars and Egypt is regressing at 450 Billion dollars.

In those days Africans didn't know much so they seccumbed to all manner of rubbish. Today make any idiot try Abacha or Kigame style of leadership in Nigeria and see the kind of reaction it will arouse from the people

Strong Federalism anyday.
I am one of the few Ghanaians who wants Ghana to practice a decentralised system where the regions vote for their own leaders, take their own decisions and develop their regions.
Nah I don't think it's because Africans didn't know much then. There were constant protests and plots against Abacha from all over the country but somehow he managed to police the country and could detect coup plots from a mile. Even Obasanjo was accused, arrested and thrown into prison. Some Nigerians at a time even hijacked a plane. Nigerians made lots of plots then but they all failed.

Even today, Sudan is still protesting against the military Government to no avail.

The real reason why it is almost impossible for Nigeria and Ghana to go back to that military style of leadership today is because in both countries, steps have been taken to seperate the military from Government and build up the democracy, and not because the citizens can do much in the case of a military take over or one man rule.

One of the first things Obasanjo did between 1999 and 2003 was to retire hundreds of army generals and top men in the army. I believe the Ghanaian military ruler of the late 1990's (Rawlings) also took steps to usher Ghana into her somewhat stable democracy today.

Strong federalism over Benevolent Dictatorship anyday anytime.

Kigame is still enjoying power because of the population of his country. I bet you No idiot will try that in Nigeria or even my beloved country Ghana.
In Nigeria's case, Abacha was the strongest of them all. A general who participated in every successful coup in Nigeria from 1966 until his time. As a top ranking officer to Babangida in 1990, he helped save Babangida from a well planned coup. He also is on record to be the only General and former Head of state who successfully passed through all ranks of the Nigerian army without skipping any stage via promotion (the rest did including Obasanjo, Buhari, and Babangida).

Yet Abacha who tried to be that Kagame strongman in Nigeria and was smart enough to resist all coups and internal forces within and without, even he couldn't rule forever as he planned. He was eventually poisoned.

There are some things I like about Abacha though if only he was nicer (to an extent at least) grin, but he was truly a no nonsense person.
One story I would never forget was when a Christian was stoned in the north around 1995 for insulting Muhammed. It was said that within a few days the perpetrators were all rounded up and put in prison including top Islamic clerics who supported the evil. This is something I wish our current Presidents could do ( at least a little bit), not giving a fvck sometimes and damning the consequences.

Peter Obi finally wins one local Government in Niger State.

"The results of the presidential election from the 10 electoral wards announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official, Dr Hussaini Musa, showed that Obi scored 16,978 votes against the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 15,917 while Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 11,968 votes.

The Suleja LGA with 10 wards had 149,088 registered voters while 50,358 were accredited for the election".
