The Smart Cottage is a compact, prefabricated home incorporating LG’s cutting-edge heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and energy solutions, as well as its newest smart home appliances and services. Blending premium appliances and convenient services with a space constructed using the latest in modular housing technologies and techniques, LG Smart Cottage introduces a new paradigm in residential living.

Designed with sustainability in mind, and aligned with LG’s vision of a Better Life for All, the Smart Cottage features a two-story, studio-style layout that provides a functional, convenient living environment and maximum space efficiency. The modular home, which has a small footprint yet boasts all the appliances and facilities one could need, can be easily transported and placed in the desired location. According to research conducted by ReportLinker, the global prefabricated housing market is expected to reach an estimated USD 22.9 billion by 2028 with a compound annual growth rate of 4.8 percent from 2023 to 2028.

Inside, the space has a relaxed, premium feel thanks to LG’s ‘gentle, stable and refined’ design and the harmonious use of diverse materials, such as hardwood, tile and brass. To reduce environmental impact, the home’s replaceable module components have been made with low-carbon steel materials produced by POSCO, a renowned South Korean steel company.

The innovative, high-efficiency LG kitchen, living, and air solutions installed in LG Smart Cottage include the WashTower Compact, QuadWash™ dishwasher, various built-in kitchen appliances, a water purifier and the Therma V™ Monobloc air-to-water heat pump (AWHP). In addition to delivering year-around indoor comfort while using less power than a conventional heating and cooling system, LG’s energy-saving AWHP can provide a reliable supply of hot water via connection to the 200-liter-capacity Integrated Water Tank (IWT).

Moving outside, the exterior of the Smart Cottage is equipped with sustainability-focused LG technologies that can meet the daily energy needs of up to two occupants. Roof-mounted 4-kilowatt (kW) solar panels connect with the company’s Energy Storage System (ESS) to ensure the safe, reliable on-site collection and storage of solar power, generating as much as 15 kilowatts of electricity per day. Any surplus energy can be stored in the ESS for later use, or sold to the contracted electricity provider. Additionally, LG’s modular house has an electric vehicle (EV) charger built in, so homeowners won’t have to worry about fitting one themselves in order to power up their EV.

For a smart and convenient user experience, all of the appliances inside this extraordinary abode connect seamlessly with LG ThinQ. Via the ThinQ app, users can effortlessly control each appliance, manage the entire HVAC system, and monitor energy storage and consumption in real-time. A collection of innovative home appliance accessories and add-ons embracing universal design and made from recycled materials, the LG Universal UP Kit has been crafted to enhance usability for individuals facing physical challenges, exemplifying LG’s vision of a more inclusive and sustainable future. Customers can seamlessly integrate Universal UP Kit products into their existing LG home appliances so that the whole item does not need to be replaced, elevating user experience without the need to upgrade to the latest models.

The kit represents a continuation of LG’s strong efforts towards more environmentally conscious and accessibility focused ESG initiatives. Last year, the company introduced its minimalist design appliance lineup – a testament to LG’s commitment to more sustainable manufacturing through reducing components and increasing the utilization of recyclable materials.

To aid in developing the Universal UP Kit, LG enlisted the help of its Accessibility Advisory Council, an independent board, an assembly of individuals with health conditions such as hearing or vision impairments and cerebral palsy. Other aid kits from the Universal UP portfolio include the Assistant Kit. In a landmark speech today at the LG Sciencepark in Seoul, South Korea, CEO William Cho outlined the bold vision built on three growth engines: pursuing new platform based service businesses through advancement of business portfolio, accelerating business-to-business (B2B) and exploring new business areas such as electronics vehicle charging and digital health. The CEO identified electrification, servitization and digitalization as key inflection points LG will focus on to achieve rapid mid- to long-term growth.

“LG will continue to pursue its bold vision to transform and leap forward as a smart life solutions company that connects and expands customers’ various spaces and experiences, rather than resting on its current position as the best home appliance brand that provides quality products,” said CEO Cho. “We will establish a brand-new LG by reinventing the way we work and communicate toward this goal.”

The CEO also highlighted the company’s financial objectives. “We will achieve Triple 7, which encompasses an average growth rate and operating profit of 7 percent or more as well as enterprise value to EBITDA ratio of 7,” said the CEO. “With the goal of raising sales from KRW 65 trillion last year to KRW 100 trillion by 2030, we will establish ourselves as a company that is properly recognized by the market and customers.”

Cho said LG will focus on the transition to the platform based service business model, acceleration of B2B areas and procurement of new growth engines based on competitive edge as three pillars to focus on customer experience. By 2030, the proportion of these three pillars in sales and operating profit is expected to increase to more than 50 percent.

The company plans to invest more than KRW 50 trillion by 2030 for the qualitative growth of the business, including the advancing of the business portfolio led by the three new growth engines. This includes an R&grin investment of more than KRW 25 trillion, facility investment of more than KRW 17 trillion and strategic investment of KRW 7 trillion.

The company is also accelerating the expansion of its B2B business, the CEO explained. LG’s rich understanding of customers as well as the know-how to communicate and empathize with customers that have been accumulated in the B2C business, which has seen continuous innovation over the past 65 years, will be fully expanded to commercial, mobility and virtual spaces.

Cho highlighted how LG is accelerating company-wide changes from corporate culture to brand communication at every customer contact point with the ultimate goal of becoming a brand that that warms the hearts of customers and puts smiles on their faces while enabling customers to feel the value and philosophy of Life’s Good. While delivering his address, he stated that the company's decision to organise the Women Summit was to establish a platform for women to interact, learn, and be inspired by the experiences of seasoned professionals from all backgrounds.

AI Picture Pro also integrates a picture processing technology that detects and refines important objects, such as people’s faces, to give them a more lifelike HDR quality. In addition to fine-tuning image reproduction, the α9 AI Processor Gen6 powers LG’s AI Sound Pro; a feature that helps viewers get swept up in the onscreen action by delivering virtual 9.1.2 surround sound from the TVs’ built-in speaker system.

Another significant upgrade applied to this year’s OLED evo G3 series is LG’s Brightness Booster Max technology, which incorporates brand-new light control architecture and light-boosting algorithms to increase brightness by up to 70 percent. Brightness is mapped and controlled on a pixel-by-pixel basis, resulting in sharper, more realistic images.

LG’s 2023 G3 OLED evo models also boast an aesthetic upgrade via the introduction of the ultra-seamless One Wall Design.2 Leaving no visible gap when wall mounted, this year’s models bring style and effortless elegance to the living room.

Also, LG continues to leverage its technological leadership not just to create products and services for a better life. 2023 LG OLED TVs are designed to be kinder to the environment, from production all the way through to disposal creating sustainable cycles. LG OLED TVs have no backlighting unit, meaning each TV requires fewer materials to produce than a conventional LED TV. They also employ many components made from recycled plastics, and are even shipped in eco-packaging made from recyclable materials and featuring single-color printing. Easier on viewers’ eyes, all of LG’s 2023 model OLED TVs have been certified low blue light by TÜV Rheinland, and flicker-free by UL Solutions.

LG OLED is also introducing a refreshed, more personalized user experience in 2023. Featuring the latest version of webOS, this year’s models present All New Home, a redesigned user interface (UI) that offers a wealth of personalization options and more convenience than ever. The new ‘Quick Cards’ offer users easy access to the content and services they use the most – all grouped into logical categories such as Home Office, Gaming, Music, and Sports. Furthering the personalized user experience on LG OLED TV is AI Concierge, which provides each user with a curated list of content choices based on their past usage and search inquiries, and provides a selection of trending content for them to browse.

Designed for first-class home cinema experiences, LG OLED TVs continue to support the image- and audio-enhancing capabilities of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. What’s more, this year’s LG TVs offer seamless integration with the latest LG soundbars, delivering outstanding multi-channel surround sound with IMAX enhanced quality powered by DTS:X. LG TV and soundbar also combine to offer the WOW Orchestra feature, which takes advantage of both products’ audio channels to produce stronger, more immersive sound.

As one would expect, LG’s 2023 OLED models support a wide range of features compliant to HDMI 2.1a. They are also the first TV sets to be certified by the HDMI organization for the recently announced Quick Media Switching VRR (QMS-VRR). QMS-VRR can eliminate the momentary ‘black screen’ that sometimes occurs when switching between content played from different source devices connected via the TV’s HDMI 2.1a compliant ports.

The ultimate gaming displays, LG’s self-lit OLED TVs boast a 0.1 millisecond response time, low input lag, up to four HDMI2.1a compliant ports. LG OLED TVs are also equipped with the Game Optimizer, allowing users to quickly select and switch between gaming-specific features, such as game-genre display presets. Settings for G-SYNC® Compatible, FreeSync™ Premium and variable refresh rate (VRR) are easily accessible from the Game Optimizer as well.

Post COP27 Dialogue: LG Electronics, Solution17 drive actualisation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development in Nigeria

LG established a comprehensive framework for its sustainable practices at an event held in The Art Hotel, Lagos tagged Post COP27: Race to Net-Zero via Social, Environmental and Economic Sustainability in collaboration with Creative Youth Community Development Initiative for the actualization of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

The event highlights included the exhibition of 17 Art on Canvas showing climate adaptation and resilience, green economic recovery, and a global net-zero emission. The art depicts problems, effects and solutions to the climate crisis as it relates to limiting global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius, climate adaptation, climate finance, and partnerships to achieve the goals. In attendance were, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Matthias Schmale, Public Affairs Officer, United States Consulate General in Lagos, Mr. Joe Kuzrich, Deputy Consul General - Consulate General of Italy in Lagos, Ms. Grazia Bellanova, among others.

In his Welcome Address, the Public Affairs Officer, United States Consulate General in Lagos, Mr. Joe Kuzrich said Africa contributes very little to global warming but is experiencing disproportionately high costs. It contributes around 3% to global warming, but it’s suffering much, much more than that.

“The United States and other developing and developed country partners, especially in Europe and Asia, are working to assist Africa in combating this plague of climate change. For example, we’ve set up an adaptation fund to create climate resilience among many African countries, and we have funded that with $1 billion recently. So, that will help countries fund clean energy solutions and adapt to some of the problems that climate change is creating, especially more extreme weather, floods, and droughts that we see across the continent and in other parts of the world”, he said.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Matthias Schmale delivered his keynote speech virtually and said that there is also enormous climate cost; climate change already costs 100 billion per annum. That is a significant slice of GDP as it stands, and without proper climate action, the estimates suggest it will rise much more significantly in the future. So, it’s clear for the UN, as I’m sure for all of you, that if we are to realize or to support and play a role in realizing the development aspirations of the Nigerian people, the time is now for urgent climate action and accelerated efforts.

Speaking on the ESG programs of LG Electronics, Marketing Manager, LG Electronics West African Operations, Mr. Paul Mba said, LG's newly revealed sustainable vision aligns perfectly with the phrase, Better Life for All. While LG has consistently shown its commitment to providing a better lifestyle for customers through its innovative products and services, the catchphrase signifies yet another step forward for the company. Henceforth, LG is expanding the scope of its sustainable practices with six key ESG initiatives to create a better life for its customers, the environment, employees, suppliers, and one and all who call this planet home.

During the event, sustainability and climate change panelist spoke about the challenges hindering a circular society and to formulate strategies aimed at promoting climate and energy-related policies towards achieving a net zero greenhouse gas emissions society. The Founder of Creative Youth Community Development Initiative, Ms. Foluke Michaels gave in-depth analysis of how she and her organization has brought several innovations to climate change and what she intends doing in her capacity for sustainability development. She drew inspiration from Joe Biden, the President of United States of America during the 2021 Leaders’ summit on Climate in London and it made her launched Naija Climate in partnership with United Nations Information Centre for Nigeria in June, 2021 with a call to young people to design sustainable solutions to climate change adaptation in Nigeria. Since then, CYCDI has been partnering various like-minded organizations in pursuance of Climate solutions in the country.

To wrap up the event, the Digital Manager of LG Electronics, Ms. Doris Onwuagba engaged the audience with her presentation on DECENT WORK & ECONOMIC GROWTH FROM WASTE TO WEALTH. She said waste is responsible for roughly 20% of global methane emissions from human activities, and dramatically scaling up efforts to reduce these emissions can also deliver important health and economic development benefits. From context observation, a waste problem exists in the country and is prevalent and could fuel health risk and further increase in the poor quality of the air and pollution in the country. It is only reasonable to imbibe proper management and control of wastes – organic, e-waste, health, industrial, agricultural and food, vehicle parts among others in the country. This should be seen as a priority and an avenue to create wealth, economic development and an improved environment.

It is imperative as a society and working economy to prevent waste and also encourage the reuse of materials and waste, which can, in turn create economic value. LG Electronics introduced “upcycle” turning package boxes into piece of furniture or arts. That means waste will be prevented by making and reusing materials more efficiently.

LG Electronics (LG) has been busy bringing warm, joyful moments to one and all with their delightful holiday campaign, #NEEDITOWNIT! Featuring a Soundbar and Home Theatre System, the campaign was the brand’s gift as everyone jostled to win the exclusive products.

#NEEDITOWNIT campaign was to give out the latest premium LG audio products to our customers who have old LG audio models but were unable to upgrade to newer models due to one reason or the other, says Mr. Daesun Hwang, General Manager, LG Electronics West African Operations. “Nigerians are music lovers, perhaps, that is why LG Electronics says that this year’s yuletide celebration will be better spent with family and friends with unique products that will make home dining and family bonding experience seamless.”

As a special end of year campaign for Nigerians, participants were asked to upload a picture of their old LG Audio products using the hashtag #NeeditOwnit and state why they want the latest Audio from LG. Over 3000 entries were received from LG Facebook and Instagram account and two winners emerged, one each from each account.

One of the winner, Emeh Sunday Orji won for himself LG SNH5 Soundbar and was delighted that his name was picked among the lot. “I was glad when I saw my name that I won a Soundbar, it is indeed a surprise because I have been seeing things like this happen but never won anything. LG has beautified my home and I am very happy to participate in this campaign.”

On his part, Mr. Otubaga Oluwaseun Sunday was full of joy as he was presented with LHD687 Home Theatre System. “I was reluctant to participate due to several trial and error but towards the end of the campaign, I decided to give it a try since the festive season is around the corner to see if I could be a winner, and to my greatest surprise, it turned out to be true.” I have been praying for a gift to celebrate the Christmas and LG has just answered my prayers, he said.
