The Federal Government (FG) announced on Thursday that plans are already underway to ensure workers of the teaching profession are the highest paid in the civil service.

The FG explained this would help attract the best brains to the teaching profession.

This pledge was made by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, during the inauguration of the Governing Councils of twenty-one Federal Colleges of Education.

Adamu, who was represented by Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, said the teaching profession had ceased to be “all-comers affairs.”

He warned that teachers in Nigeria across all levels must register with the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) before the end of this year or risk being sent out of classrooms.

Adamu said the government had understudied Malaysia and came to the realisation that the country got it right by first taking a critical look at teaching and teacher education.

He noted that Malaysia in the quest for greatness had brought down its education sector and reorganised it for effective development of human resource in order to get to where the country is today.

He said: “What did they do? They brought the whole system down and ask what do you want us to do in education. Their planning was geared towards the development of human resources.

In Malaysia, the top percent of those who scored the highest in their equivalent of JAMB compete to be teachers.

“If you are a teacher in Malaysia, you are to ranked than any other worker in the country. This is why you will find people with PhDs teaching in primary schools.

Teachers are paid higher than any other person in Malaysia and we have made that recommendation and we are going to do that in Nigeria,” he said.

Adamu, also lamented the dearth of quality teachers Nigeria, saying it was unfortunate that the noble call had not been able to attract the best and the brightest because of inadequacies in the system.

He insisted that the current administration was ready to get it right with the cooperation of all stakeholders.

Who is deceiving who?

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has refused to congratulate the president over his emergence as the winner of the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections. Also, he has refused to concede.

I want to ask, does conceding or not conceding has any implication and is it a must that he should concede. We all know that PMB won the election, so why are they dragging this issue of conceding. I'm sorry I'm not getting it and I need someone to explain to me.

Most governors rounding off their second term are aiming to be elected to the National Assembly which is fast becoming a trend amongst most governors who view the Red Chamber as a “retirement home”.

On Saturday, eight of the current governors were on the senatorial ballot together with 16 former governors.

Out of the incumbent governors, six won their elections.

Amongst the former governors, six were defeated while 10 won their election bid.

As things stand, 16 former governors will be in the 9th Assembly which means 14.7% of the senators will be former governors.

INCUMBENT GOVERNORS: THE WINNERS
Rochas Okorocha (Imo State, 2011-2019)
The controversial governor of Imo state is on his way to the Senate after defeating Jones Onyeriri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by polling 97,762 votes against his opponent who polled 68,117.

Despite the controversy surrounding the election with the Returning Officer, Innocent Ibeawuchi claiming to have announced the results under duress, Okorocha was declared as the Senator-elector Imo West.

Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun state, 2011-2019)
Amosun who is in a similar political situation as Okorocha is also on his way to the senate after the expiration of his tenure as the Ogun State governor.

He polled 88,110 votes to defeat his main challenger, Titi Oseni-Gomez of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 37,101 votes while Kayode Amusan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 33,276.

Amosun who is a former senator (2003-2007) is at loggerheads with the leadership of his party, APC because of his support for his protégé who is running for Governor on the platform of the Allied Progressive Movement.

AbdulAziz Yari (APC, Zamfara)
The governor who got serious backlash over his comment on meningitis being punishment for sin almost did not make it to the ballot due to disqualification over election primaries until the court’s pronouncement.

Yari of the APC polled 153,626 votes while Lawal Hassan of the PDP scored 69,293 votes.

He will be representing Zamfara West replacing Sen Sani Yerima who is a former governor.

Kassim Shettima (Borno state, 2011-2019)
The governor of Borno State will represent Borno Central at the next Assembly.

The governor will join other former governors who have turned the Red chamber to the new retirement home.

Shettima polled 340,898 votes with his closest opponent Mohammed Abba-Aji of the PDP polling 75, 509 votes.

Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe State, 2011-2019)
Despite reports that the governor of Yobe state could not vote due to insecurity, Gaidam scored 139, 277 to defeat his closest challenger Tata Abbagana of PDP who scored 18,059.

Geidam will replace Bukar Ibrahim as representative of Yobe East Senatorial District.

Tanko Al-Makura
The governor of Nasarawa state will join his predecessor Sen Abdullahi Adamu in the Red Chamber.

Al-Makura of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 113,156 to defeat incumbent Senator Suleiman Adokwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 104,595 votes.

INCUMBENT: LOSERS
Abiola Ajumobi (Oyo state)
Mr Constituted authority lost his senatorial bid to Kola Balogun of the PDP.

The governor of Oyo state who is also a former Senator contested for Oyo South Senatorial District but lost to his rival who polled 105,720 votes to Ajumobi’s 92, 218 votes.

Ibrahim Dankwambo
This election cycle is a bad one for governor Dankwambo who suffered defeat at the PDP Presidential primary election where he came fifth.

On Saturday, Dankwambo only polled 88,016 against Saidu Ahmed Alkali who polled 152,551 votes.

Dankwambo who is Atiku Abubakar’s campaign coordinator for the Northeast could not deliver the state for Atiku as the PDP candidate also suffered defeat in the region.

Former Governors: Winners
Nine former governors will be in the Red Chamber in the 9th Assembly.

Gabriel Suswan (Benue 2007-2015)
The former governor of Benue state defeated Sen Barnabas Gemade of the Social Democratic Party to emerge as the senator-elect for Benue north.

Gemade, a former National Chairman of PDP recently decamped to the PDP but his inability to secure a ticket in PDP led to his decamping to SDP where he got the ticket.

Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu, 1999-2007)
Nnamani, a former Governor of Enugu state will represent Enugu East Senatorial District.

Nnamani who contested under the PDP polled 128,843 votes to beat Lawrence Eze of APC who garnered 14,586 votes and the APGA candidate who polled a total of 1,586 votes to come a distant third.

Adamu Ailero (APC, Kebbi Governor from 1999-2007)
Adamu Ailero, a former governor of Kebbi state will continue to represent Kebbi Central Senatorial district in the 9th Assembly

Adamu who is former FCT minister polled 232, 000 votes to defeat Shehu Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who came second with 75,638 votes.

Danjuma Goje (Gombe, 2003-2011)
The Chairman of Senate Appropriations Committee and former governor of Gombe State has been elected to represent Gombe Central Senatorial District for the 3rd time.

Goje of APC polled 110,116 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Abubakar Nono of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 39,760 votes.

Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa, 1999-2007)
The former governor of Nasarawa state has been in the Senate since 2011 and he has been elected for the 3rd time to represent Nasarawa East Senatorial district.

Sen. Abdullahi Adamu of APC scored 115,298 votes, while his rival Alhaji Bala Ahmed Aliyu of PDP scored 85,615 votes.

Aliu Wamako (Sokoto, 2007-2015)
The former governor of Sokoto state, Aliu Wamako of the APC defeated Ahmed Maccido of the PDP to emerge again as the representative of Sokoto North Senatorial District.

Wamako scored a total of 172,980 votes against Maccido who secured 138,922 votes.

Senator Wamako was first elected into the red chamber in 2015 and is currently in supremacy battle with his successor, Gov Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state.

Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia, 1999-2007)
After many failed attempts at the past, former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu will represent Abia North Senatorial district in the 9th assembly.

Kalu won with 30,580 votes while the closest opposition candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa recorded 21,940 votes.

Like most ex-governors, the former Presidential Candidate of PPA is under investigation for N7.3B fraud while serving as Abia state governor.

Kalu will join his successor, Theodore Orji and his former deputy Governor, Enyinnaya Abaribe in the Senate.

Theodore Orji (Abia, 2007-2015)
The successor to Governor Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji also secured his re-election bid.

He will continue to represent Abia Central Senatorial district in the 9th Assembly.

Orji polled a total of 55,461 votes beating his APC opponent, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu who polled 29,860 votes, followed by the APGA candidate, Chidi Ajaegbu with 19,534 votes.

Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano, 2003-2011)
The former Presidential Candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party at the 2011 presidential election will be representing Kano Central in the 9th assembly.

The former governor of Kano who is now in the APC defeated the candidate of the PDP who is Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso proxy, Aliu Madaki.

Shekarau scored 506, 271 votes to defeat Madaki, who polled 276, 768 votes which mean Shekarau will replace his arch enemy, Kwankwaso in the Senate.
Kabiru Gaya (Kano, 1992-1993) Gaya, a former governor of Kano state in the short-lived 3rd republic won his 5th term election.

In the 9th assembly, he will continue to represent Kano South Senatorial district which he has been doing since 2003.

Gaya polled 319,004 votes to beat his close opponent, Sani Rogo of PDP, who scored 217,520 votes.

Yahaya Karaye of PRP came third with 30,013 votes.

Gaya is one of the senior ranking senators in the Senate.

FORMER GOVERNORS: LOSERS
Bukola Saraki (Kwara, 2003-2011)
The Senate President and Director General of Atiku Campaign Organization, Bukola Saraki suffered defeat in his bid for a 3rd term in the Senate.

The godfather of Kwara politics served as governor of Kwara state from 2003-2011 before moving to the Senate in 2011.

Saraki was defeated by Ibrahim Oloriegbe who polled 123, 808 votes to defeat the Senate President who scored 68,994 votes in the four local governments of Kwara Central Senatorial District.

Emmanuel Uduagan (2007-2015)
The former Governor of Delta state tried to dislodge James Manager, one of the longest-serving senators in the Senate, but he failed.

Uduaghan who recently decamped to the APC challenged Sen Manager for Delta South Senatorial district but he managed to poll 125,776 against Manager who polled 258,812.

Emmanuel Akpabio (Akwa Ibom, 2007-2015)
Akpabio also succumbed to defeat in his request for re-election into the Senate.

Akpabio who was the governor of the oil-rich Akwa-Ibom from 2007-2015 was defeated by Chris Ekpenyong who polled 118,215 votes to defeat Senator Akpabio (APC) who got 83,158 votes.

The former minority leader has been in war of control of the state with his godson, Udom Emmanuel.

Olusegun Mimiko (2009-2017)
Mimiko’s aspiration to represent Ondo Central Senatorial district suffered a defeat on Saturday.

Mimiko served as governor of the sunshine state from 2009-2017 but came a distant third in the three horse race.

Both Mimiko and the incumbent senator, Tayo Alasoadura of the APC could not stand the tsunami of former Senator Ayo Akinyelure of the PDP.

Sen Akinyelure scored 66,978 to beat the APC candidate to second place with 57,828.

Mimiko came a distant third with a score of 56,624.

Andy Uba
Although Andy Uba served for 14 days in 2007 as the governor of Anambra state, he is still regarded as a former governor.

He has been in the Senate since 2011 however, his re-election bid on Saturday under the platform of the APC failed.

He was defeated by the chairman of Capital Oil and Gas, Ifeanyi Ubah.

More humiliating for the ranking senator is that he came distance fourth.

Ubah of Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Nigeria polled a total of 87, 081 votes to emerge winner of the Anambra South Senatorial District, while the younger brother of the incumbent Senator, Chris Uba polled 62,462 votes, Nicholas Ukachukwu, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 51,269 votes while Sen. Andy Uba, the incumbent and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate got 13,245 votes.

George Akume (Benue, 1999-2007)
Sen Akume, a former governor of Benue State has been in the Senate since 2007 but his fourth term re-election bid ended in defeat to a member of the House of Representatives, Oker Jev.

Akume who is the leader of the ruling APC following the defection of the state governor, Samuel Ortom and Sen Barnabas Gemade from APC was defeated by Jev who got 157,726 votes to Akume’s 115, 422 votes.

Actor Neal McDonough says he was blacklisted in Hollywood for several years because he refused to perform sex scenes. 

Known for his performances in “Band of Brothers,” “Minority Report” and “Desperate Housewives,” the Catholic actor recently opened up about his strong Christian convictions and said it cost him his job on ABC’s “Scoundrels” series in 2010.

“It was a horrible situation for me,” he told Closer Weekly of being fired for refusing to perform sex scenes with co-star Virginia Madsen. “After that, I couldn’t get a job because everybody thought I was this religious zealot. I am very religious. I put God and family first, and me second. That’s what I live by. It was hard for a few years.”

The Boston native has had a no sex scenes policy for most of his 30-year career and not even his stint in “Desperate Housewives,” a highly sexualized series, made him compromise his rule.

“When Marc Cherry signed me, I said, ‘I’m sure you know, but I won’t kiss anybody,’” McDonough recalled telling the “Desperate Housewives” creator. “He was like, ‘But this is ‘Desperate Housewives!’’ I said, ‘I know.’ He paused for about five seconds and said, ‘All right, I’m just going to have to write better.’ And we had a great time.’”

McDonough and his wife of 16 years, South African model Ruvé Robertson, have five children together. The loyal husband said he also refuses to kiss his co-stars “because these lips are meant for one woman.”

Despite being fired from “Scoundrels” in 2010 for standing by his convictions, McDonough celebrated his decision. He said his career “has been phenomenal ever since.”

“Almost 20 years, five kids and just one heck of an awesome life later, to have her as my partner in everything, I’m just the most blessed guy I know,” the 57-year-old said. “That’s why I go to church every day and say ‘thank you’ to God for everything He’s given me. And most importantly, thank you for giving me Ruvé, because, without her, I most certainly would not be talking with you right now.”

McDonough isn't the only actor whose spoken about being temporarily blacklisted in Hollywood for their religious or political beliefs. 

In an interview with The Christian Post last year, 30-year TV and film star Antonio Sabato Jr. said he's been barred from Hollywood because of his faith.

"They don't want to say Jesus; they don't even want to mention His name. It's a shame! They need Jesus. I think Jesus needs to be more relevant to everyone in Hollywood," said Sabato who told CP he was shunned for being conservative and for supporting President Trump. "... if you talk about this president or being a conservative, you'll be blacklisted. I was completely blacklisted from Hollywood."

They lost it, no honor, no dignity and no integrity. They lost it today. As he said This is going to be the last Budget I am presenting to the 8th Assembly. It was indeed the last one to them and the World is Watching.....
He left quietly like the coming of the night after the disappearance of the Day vice versa. Only Cheering and shouting 4+4 !!!
