In my company, your professional certificate is more important than your degree.
Please, can you suggest marketable ICT professional cert?

Abba Kyari. Buhari's chief of staff.
Thanks a lot.

I also googled more on the role of a president's chief of staff.

*They are the highest ranking staff in a state house
*They oversee the actions of a state house staffs
*They manage the president's schedule and decides who see the president

They can also be called a president's personal assistant.

Career / What's The Best Way To Learn An Ict Skill (esp. Graphics Design)? by geoinvestor(m): 3:06pm On Feb 14, 2018
I intend to learn graphic designs and I have already seen two places to learn it.

First is on an ICT centre (a classroom with other students)

Second is one on one with a graphic designer.

Which one will be more effective?

graphic is good. I think u need to focus on skill development first b4 thinking of jobs or else you will loose focus and be tossed here and there.

if u combine it with animation, u will go far but like I always say, if u love a particular job, u will spend ur entire time learning it and u will b ready to work free of charge
Thanks for the advice sir.

The truth is that even my firm here in Lagos hired a graphic designer, but it wasn't advertised. You need to have insiders in most firms, and they will help you.

Even as a freelancer, Graphics design is so lucrative.
Thanks alot

BiafranBushBoy:
From whichever country you are reading from, I am about to show you the basic steps to start a career in information technology as a beginner or someone without experience. Information technology rules the world now, and it is one of the most exciting fields to start your career.
It is quite complex for beginners without the basic skills and understanding of how the sector works. This post is aimed at educating both beginners with the skills, and those who wish to start a career in technology without skills.

Here are basic steps to take if you intend to start a career in information technology as a beginner

Know the Sub-Sectors in Information Technology

This is the first thing you have to do if you wish to start a career in information technology. There are several subsectors in Information Technology such as;

-Programming
-Software Development
-Web Design/Development
-Mobile Application Development
-Networking/Server Administration
-Big Data
-Multimedia (Designs and Graphics)
-Cloud
-Hardware Engineering
-Security and several others that abound.

If you think you are proficient in any of the above sub-sectors, then you go ahead to identify how to harness your skills and put it into work.
For beginners without any skill set to function in any of the above sub-sectors, you should find which sub-sector interests you to make a career out of it.

Identify where you fit it

This is the hardest part of the whole steps. Figuring out where you would fit it might be one hell of a task. Most people dive into Information Technology as beginners due to several reasons which include but not limited to;

Passion
Getting a job
Making a fortune out of the career.
Whichever of the above might be your reason, then you should make some basic research to identify which sub-sector would help you achieve your purpose.
You should also understand that making a mistake while choosing your best-fit career in IT might ruin your plans. So it is best to find out where your strength lies.
These few tips would help you identify your strength;

1) Are you good with visuals and colours (You can deal with Multimedia, Graphics, and Designs)
2) Are you mathematically sound and can deal with codes, numbers? Do you pay attention to slightest details? (Programming, software development and mobile application development might suit you)
3) Are you good with your hands? Can you handle tools? Are you comfortable working with machines, hardware, and systems? (You can consider a career in networking, robotics, system Engineering, hardware Engineering, etc)

There are several other questions to consider, but I recommend you speak to an expert who will guide you while making such decisions. You can ask me via the comment section on the blog, and I will guide you through the right steps to take.

Go get the Skill

Knowing where to fit in isn’t enough if you intend to start a career in information technology with no experience. I assumed you’ve identified the right sector, now is the time to go learn the right skill that would put thousands of dollars in your pocket.

For people with no computer science background in college, you have an alternative means of learning any of these skills.
I suggest you locate any good information technology training institute in your city, register and start your studies. For those in Nigeria, I have given a sincere review of the best and cheapest training institute; you can do well to check it out.

The factors below should help you in choosing the right training school;

Infrastructure used in delivering training
Quality of facilitators
Pricing (You shouldn’t break the bank to gain ICT knowledge)
Reviews from past students (I already wrote about the best school I attended for those in Lagos)

Go for your Certifications

Getting the skill is basic while getting certified helps you become a master at your career. If you intend to work for someone or freelance, you would need to convince your clients easily with your certifications.
A certification adds basically nothing to your skills, but it presents you as a professional to either the hiring manager or your client. I would be writing about the various certifications that come with different information technology courses, so do well to get subscribe and receive it directly to your mailbox.
Getting certifications should be part of your plans if you intend to start a career in information technology as a beginner. There are free and paid certifications, but the paid ones speak volume most times.

Perfect your skills

Now you’ve gotten the necessary skill you need as an information technologist, you need to build up your portfolio and become perfect. Most times I do recommend you work as an intern (whether paid or not) to gain the experience needed as a novice.
There are several firms who are willing to give you a chance to work for them as an intern – paid or not.
Some training school like this one would give you the necessary links to firms who are willing to sign you up as an intern.

After the above steps, you can then decide to either work for a firm or become a freelance agent. To start a career in information technology as a novice might be quite difficult without guidance, and I will be willing to help answer any complex question you have.

To receive information like this most times, just visit the blog with the link below and subscribe. I would guide you all the way.

Nice one OP. for the newbi, please learn Linux. whichever area you want to establish urself in, Linux is the bedrock of today's IT infrastructure.

Certifications are good but please go for the skills first. It is very tough to break in but your skillset will make way for. That's what I did and my first IT job fetched me 140k per month without a single certification and that's because at the point of interview , I was able to prove that I have the skill set in my CV
Good evening sir. I'm thinking of learning graphic design. Do you think one can easily get a job from that field?

On what basis are you basing the greatness?

If it's on an international scale, no Nigerian merits anything.
Did you just say "international?"

Chinua Achebe's Things fall apart is the most read book in modern African literature

Wole Soyinka is the first African to win a Nobel prize

Dangote is the first black billionaire

Fela's style has influenced music culture worldwide

This question is very complicating because there are so many Nigerians who have done great things for this country and are very successful.

The greatest South-African is unarguably Nelson Mandela and the greatest Indian ever is Mahatma Ghandi. Who do you think is the greatest Nigerian ever?

Notable mention :

* Nnamdi Azikiwe
* Chinua Achebe
*Aliko Dangote
*Fela
*Wole Soyinka
*Olusegun Obasanjo
*Ojukwu
*Oba Esigie
*Obafemi Awolowo e.t.c

Most Euro countries are crap. In fact, you'll have better opportunities in African countries such as Mauritius and Botswana than in many parts of Europe. Forget the hype (or shall we say the stories).

And Dominica and Barbados isn't bad either. I have visited the Barbados on holiday ... very beautiful and extremely organized.

O pari

How much is ticket to Barbados? Can one get a job there easily?

Career / How Did You Get Your Job? by geoinvestor(m): 2:45pm On Jan 10, 2018
Good afternoon everyone.

This question is directed to nairalanders who are currently employed.

If your first degree (BSC or HND) got you your job, tell us a bit of how you got the job, steps you took, how you applied, mistakes that might cost one not to get a job.

Also, if a skill you acquired before or after graduation got you your job, tell us the skill and recommend marketable skills(IT or physical) that one can learn to be employed.

I believe this thread will be of good use to undergraduates and fresh graduates.

Politics / The British Did Not Capture Oba Ovaramwen (photo Proof) by geoinvestor(m): 7:14pm On Oct 08, 2017
The British told us that the first picture is a picture of Oba Ovoramwen before he was captured, and the other is his picture after he was captured. Look at them carefully, do they look alike?

The British can do anything just to maintain their reputation. They never captured Oba Ovoramwem. The British are liars!

If he was actually exiled to Calabar, why is there no written history of him in calabar(Despite how great and influential he was) and why can't anyone find his grave?

It's been three years I graduated from the university.after all the hassles and hustles of the university, countless numbers of interviews
I finally got employed in a reputable firm on the island
Truly the saying my people suffer because of lack of knowledge is indeed true.
I've always heard about the plentiful opportunities in the IT market but I never
deemed it fit to make inquiries until recently when
I decided to conduct some researches and to my surprise I fount out that there were indeed lots of jobs out there but very few qualified persons.
All I needed to secure a job was a training in CCNA which took three months.
Yes,Three months you heard me right. It would be evil of me if I decided not to share this great news with my fellow nairalanders.
There are quite a large number of courses you could get certifications in irrespective of your university CGPA and that dream job of yours could
actually become yours in reality,They include:
A diploma in web design & programming,
Cisco certification
Diploma in graphics design
Java certification, ASp.net certification
and there are quite a huge number of companies in Nigeria that would be more than willing to train and certify you in that and the under listed are
worthy mentions include:

1)Hiit plc

2)NiiT Ikeja

3)Giit

4) Aptech.
Nairalander please join me and thank the Lord.
