By Dayo Adesulu FOR some graduates and undergraduates who appear cynical about the possibility of a student graduating with a perfect score of 5.0 CGPA, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Professor Rahamon Bello, has come out in a strong term to defend the academic feat. When Vanguard, last week, broke the news of Miss Taiwo Bankole and Oyindamole Omotuyi’s academic perfect score of 5.0 CGPA, many readers thronged Vanguard’s website to catch a glimpse of the duo, read their success stories and drop some comments. While many saluted their academic discipline and intelligence, some criticized and questioned Nigerian universities rating system, arguing that the scale system in varsities has made obtaining a perfect score very cheap. Cheap perfect score: Ezekiel Leke, a commentator based in Canada said “In Canada and the USA, the standard scale is: 90%-100% A+ = 10 Exceptional, 85%-89% A = 9 Outstanding, 80%-84% A – = 8 Excellent, 75%-79% B+ = 7 Very Good, 70%-74% B = 6 Good, 65% – 69% C+ = 5 Satisfactory, 60% – 64% C = 4 Adequate, 55% – 59% D+ = 3 Passable, 50% – 54% D = 2 Marginal, 40% – 49% E = 1 Failure and 0% – 39% F = 0 Failure. This is the standard scale in the western world. To have a 5.0 CGPA, a student must extremely be exceptional. Nigeria educational system needs overhauling. Taiwo Bankole and Oyindamola Omotuyi Extremely brilliant “Currently, I have an average score of 75% in all my courses but there is no way I will graduate with first class. Therefore, these ladies can’t graduate with first class if they were to study in Canada or US, so stop parading them as first class graduates. Bet me if they should come down here they will not find it easy. To graduate with a first class, you have to be extremely brilliant. Impossible 5.0: “In most varsities in Canada, to pass a course, one has to score at least 65%. To have a CGPA of 5 on the dot, one has to score 95%. The rating system of our educational system needs to be looked into that is why most Nigerian students struggle to pass their exam.” Benedict in his comment said “That’s to show you that our educational system is gone. No thanks to some of these examiners in our citadels of learning. Am not a sadist, but a realist. How is CGPA of 5.0/5.0 possible? A first class student is not only an embodiment of theories as it covers more, like their performance in practicals. Even his/her moral life may be considered. 5.0 without equipment: “What baffled me was that one of them had it in Systems Engineering. How possible is this? Where are the equipment? A state of emergency should be placed on varsity education in Nigeria if truly we want to be a producing and not a consuming nation. Congrats girls, but guys like me would have multiplied your score by a control factor, just to make it realistic. We are not perfect, the Bible made it clear. It means both of you are perfect in your fields. My submission.” Control factor Kunle Oni said, “These students didn’t study but outsmarted the system. A first class student abroad is all round complete. Nigeria needs real problem solvers.” Another commentator who simply identified himself as Holy Wahala, said, “it is not mathematically possible to make those perfect scores, especially given the courses they studied. Yoruba and ‘ojoro’ are like Taiye and Kehinde. How come it is only UNILAG that produces geniuses?” Why only Unilag? Mr. Epsilon Delta also remarked “They started with one last year, this year two, next year maybe six? Na only UNILAG.” Incidentally, Mr. Balo, another commentator who once taught Oyindamole said: “I taught Oyindamola Omotuyi some courses in Systems Engineering Department. She scored 80% and above in all the three courses. SSG411 (Stochastic processes), SSG407 (Mechanics of Robotic1) and GEG202 (Statistics and Computing). “For a student to be a systems engineering graduate, s/he needs to pass all the courses from these faculties: Science, Law, Social Science and Engineering. Now! my friends tell me, how is it possible for her to fu….k all the male and female lecturers to achieve this perfect record?” Mr. Reticula, who also replied via online chat said “You must understand the grading system and marks allocation in America is different from Nigeria and the UK. What you get marked up for in the US will not fetch you marks here. If they could make it in Nigeria, they can make it anywhere. If you don’t know, your 75% may not get you a B grade in Nigeria as well. So get it right.” Jealous fault finders: In agreement is Mr. Jayjay who said, “A Nigerian once scored a perfect score in Russia, another in Japan, another somewhere in Europe. You’re a jealous fault finder. Go and have your children get admission first. Nigerians are making 5.0 CGPA around the world so why are you weeping because these kids made it in their land.” Female professors Speaking in the same vein, Odusanya Kayode said, “Even if you go to top varsities in the US and other countries, it’s still the Asians and Africans that bag exceptional grades.” Mr Ewu said “I know exactly what they endured! Sleepless nights studying! Why did the female professors not fail them?” For Sola Akinwande, “What is not possible? If it had happened in a private varsity you will claim it’s fraud. You probably don’t believe this type of feat is possible in our setting because it’s not Oxford or Cambridge or Stanford University. Let’s celebrate our own please. Congrats to the girls.” Meanwhile, UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Professor Rahamon Bello, while defending the 5.0 CGPA perfect score as obtained by three of his graduates over two years said, “we don’t manipulate our scores as what you score is what you are given and that is what will be recorded for you. Since the results are published electronically, the human management has been removed from it. If after marking and calculation, you scored first class, so be it. It is the energy you put into your work that will reflect in your results. Qualitative students “Mind you also, UNILAG most likely has the most qualitative students in terms of admission in Nigeria. The quality of students we admit may probably be the reason we are now having students graduating with perfect scores. Well deserved perfect score: “Last year, we had one graduate with a perfect score, this year, we have two, maybe next year, five students will graduate with 5.0 CGPA. In UNILAG, we monitor students’ performance and we can see it from their results from 100 level. In 100 level, you can see many of them having 5.0 CGPA. Maybe by the time they get to 200 level, some scores may drop to 4.7, while some may still maintain it. “We don’t give anybody scores and we don’t mark anybody down. To get a first class, you are not being taught by three to five lecturers alone. You are taking courses across various places and taught by minimum of 15 people. So, if anyone scores well to be able to get first class, so be it. We have standard, quality control and quality check. If you work for first class, you will get first class.” Female reproductive system Academics Africans Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/01/unilag-vc-defends-graduates-5-0-cgpa/

Prof. Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, in Abia, has confirmed the discovery of a new drug for the treatment and cure of HIV/AIDS. Otunta told newsmen at the university campus on Wednesday that the finding followed years of scientific research by the institution. He said that the breakthrough was made by Prof. Maduike Ezeibe, a researcher in the university. According to him, Ezeibe had presented the drug to the University management, Senate and Council, where he explained the processes he went through to arrive at his finding. Minister of Health, Prof Issac Adewole during his HIV test. The VC also said that Ezeibe had equally presented the drug to his colleagues in the medical field and nobody had contradicted his finding. “Prof. Ezeibe is a researcher in Veterinary Medicine and one may wonder how he discovered a drug to cure a human ailment,” he said. He commended Ezeibe for the breakthrough, saying: “He has brought honour to the University and we are proud of him.” Otunta said that the university was in the process of mass producing the drug for further clinical trials on persons living with HIV/AIDS in the country. Ezeibe, who is a professor of Veterinary Medicine and Clinical Virology, said that the drug was produced with Aluminum Silicate and Magnesium Silicate (Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate). He said that the two minerals “are already in use as medicines for the treatment of various animal and human diseases”. He said that 10 persons living with the disease, “who volunteered’’, were made to apply through their doctor to the VC. “They were treated daily with the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate (50 mg/kg),” he said. Ezeibe said that the volunteers were subjected to monthly tests for viral loads and CD4-lymphocyte counts. “With the antiviral effects of the medicine, its ability to reach all cells (as nanoparticles) and the lymphocytes, there is no more hiding place (sanctuary) for HIV,” he said. He said that the medicine had been used to potentiate Ampicilin, Chloroquine, Piperazine and Sulphadimidin, among others, and could be a major foreign exchange earner for Nigeria, if approved by relevant authorities. According to him, “local and international pharmaceutical companies would find the product as a veritable raw material”. Ezeibe said that he presented the research findings to the World Virology Conference in Atlanta in 2015, and Antonio (Texas) in 2016. Besides, he said that the results of the laboratory tests had been published in many international scientific journals, including the British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, among several others. He said that he was also about to sign a memorandum of understanding with a U.S.-based Scientific Research Publishing, publishers of World Journal of AIDS, for the publication of his book “How I came about the cure for HIV/AIDS”. Ezeibe, who said that the medicine was patented in August 2014 in Nigeria, called on the Federal Government to help him to secure international patency for the drug. He said: “If commercialised, the Medicinal Synthetic Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate would become an alternative for petroleum to the Nigerian economy.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/02/breakthrough-michael-okpara-varsity-discovers-cure-hivaids/

According to reports Russian President Vladimar Putin is mounting a big military mission to take control of the Islamic State’s power centers in Raqqa. This is the self proclaimed capital of Islamic state militants. Putin is set to mobilise 1,50,000 reservists for a big army operation against ISIS. After the paris attack Putin told UK and France that he is ready to join hands with them in order to defeat the ISIS at the earliest. But the hesitation of European leaders and current American regime is a matter of concern for all the world leaders who care for this cause. Earlier Putin openly praised Trump and his Anti Radical islam stand and said Trump is a smart guy. Trump is also keeping good relationship with the Russian president and is ready for a good working relationship with Putin if he is elected as American President. Trump and Putin will be a deadly combo against Global Islamic terrorism and India can also join hands with them. Because ISIS is targeting India clearly in the name of religion. Putin’s tough stand against Islamic state is really a blessing to the world as the world is dealing with the biggest threat of 21st Century. Only decisive leaders like Trump and Putin can check the growing threat of global Islamic terrorism. This is not the time for preaching peace when the enemy is ready to destroy the world. RUSSIAN PRESIDENT PUTIN SAID “TO FORGIVE THE TERRORISTS IS UP TO GOD, BUT TO SEND THEM TO SEE GOD IS MY DUTY" http://www.criticaltimesnews.com/2016/09/i-swear-if-isis-bomb-any-city-in-russia-islamist-die-half-hour-putin.html?m=1Source :

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service, has intercepted a container loaded with 49 boxes of 661 pump-action rifles along the Mile 2 Apapa Road of Lagos State. The 40-foot container, which was cleared at the Lagos port, was intercepted by Customs officials who were on patrol. The officials were said to have discovered that although the manifest said the container had “steel doors and other merchandise goods,” boxes of the weapons were concealed deep in the container. Our correspondent was told that the rifles, tagged, ‘JOJEFF made in Italy,’ could take up to 10 cartridges and could wreak a lot of havoc. Other items found in the container were diapers, office cabinet, towels, mattresses, soft drinks, toiletries, among others. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), during a press conference on Monday at the FOU, Zone A, Ikeja, said the container came from China, but was routed through Turkey to “cause confusion.” He explained that three suspects, Oscar Okafor (importer), Mahmud Hassan (clearing agent) and Sadique Mustapha (escort) had been arrested. He said the suspects were undergoing interrogations at the agency’s office and would not be paraded until their culpability was established. He said, “On Sunday, January 22, 2017, the roving team of the NCS, Federal Operations Unit, while on information patrol intercepted a Mack truck with number plate, BDG 265 XG, conveying a one by 40-foot container with number: PONU/825914/3 along Mile 2 Apapa Road. “The truck was immediately taken to the premises of FOU Zone A, Ikeja, where physical examination revealed 49 boxes containing a total of 661 pieces of pump action rifles concealed with steel doors and other merchandise goods. In the declaration of the items in the container, the importer concealed the weapons and declared them as still doors. “These rifles are under absolute prohibition; therefore, their importation is illegal. The importation and transaction of pump-action is totally against the law of this nation. “Such a deadly contravention of the law is even more unacceptable considering the fragile security situation in some parts of the country. We have kidnappers and armed robbers and there is insurgency, it is more intense. There are also the cattle rustlers, who are also using the same weapon. So, they are deadly.” Ali explained that investigations had commenced into how the truck escaped the vigilance of Customs officers at the port, adding that all officers involved in the clearance were in detention. He noted that the importer, exporter, escort, officials of the agency and others, would be prosecuted at the end of investigations. Ali called for vigilance among residents, saying it was important that people shared information with security agencies on the movement of suspicious items. He said, “One of the important roles we play is the security of Nigerians. And the only way we can do this is to ensure that things like this don’t get into the country. Where they find their way in, we must ensure the importers don’t enjoy the illegality. This is why our men are all over the place. “However, we need the assistance of the public because these things do happen. Imagine if this truck had escaped and had been offloaded by some people. They will be transferred and if we don’t get information, there is no way we can apprehend them. In the end, you and I will be affected by this. It could fall into the hand of an armed robber or a kidnapper and there will be problem. “This is why the security network of this country must involve everybody. We must ensure we give the prerequisite information. Without information, we won’t be able to do anything. This happened because we got information and our men acted promptly.” Ali described the seizure as one of the biggest feats the agency had recorded in 2017, promising to reward the officials who carried out the operation. While fielding questions from journalists, Ali admitted that there were problems with the nation’s scanners at the borders. He said most of the scanners were faulty, adding that the agency was working towards resolving the problem. He said, “We have problems with the scanners. Most of the scanners are not working. We realised that while a few of them can be repaired, majority are bad. And I need not tell you that paucity of funds has been part of the problems. But you will start seeing changes as we are working hard to resolve the problem.” Source:http://punchng.com/officers-held-customs-seize-661-riffles-lagos/

I have been an ardent supporter of MMM for a very long time now. I have helped to register members for the 'longthroat'of referral bonuses. But now, I can't possibly advice anyone to register or invest. From this recent developments it has dawned on me that MMM is not 100 percent real and close to becoming a scam. With this, I have found the real and new meaning of MMM which means "MY MISSING MONEY". I'm just disappointed. MMM members on Nairaland, what do you think ![]() |
This 'president' is obviously insulting us globally and does this as if oblivious and the worst of all, throwing it at our faces. Have we no medical experts in Nigeria? Have we no hospitals with sophisticated paraphernalia? Come to think of it, this is a direct insult and slap in the face of the minister of health who the 'president' has undermined his tactical expertise and instead, deem it fit to fly abroad. Lastly, in my humble opinion, I think it's a social malady for the 'president' to publicise issues related to his health. Will Nigeria ever be good again ? |

I'm really happy and grateful that mmm is back after my long wait. MMM, embarked on a holiday for reasons so esoteric among which include curbing of fraudulent practices. So many people who have viewed and regarded MMM as scam have been put to shame on seeing or rather hearing the good NEWS. Nigerian media can really tell LIES ehh! There's no day that a blatant fallacy would not be on news about MMM. Even some 'reliable' information carriers that are adjudged trustworthy would end up putting fictitious stories about MMM. Honestly, I am peeved! Now, the good news is that MMM is fully back and so many criticizers, foes have joined, are joining and have declared their interest to join. So many have always gotten help(GH),while some have been matched with other participants. I know some people won't still believe sha...
