Did the family you are talking about have a valid visa in the passport? If yes then maybe that is why it was returned to them. My mom's expired passport was retrieved and wasn't seized. So I understand what this person is talking about. I took her there myself and it wasn't only my mom's they retrieved. I am 100% sure..
How can passport office seize a passport and then give you a new one is it logical Please if your old passport without visa was returned to you recently after renewal signify so I can storm the passport office for my mom's passport. I nor understand this kind Nigeria again

I could remember few weeks back when The federal government directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to retrieve all valid diplomatic and official passports from holders who are no longer entitled to carry them so this might have also affected the person in question.

A diplomatic passport holder shouldn't be on this thread.
The essence of the 'cancelled without prejudice' is to render the document void.
There has never being a time such document is retrieved..(had to reconfirm from someone that did a renewal for the family in december).
My advice is for the affected person to go back to the office and retrieve it....except of course it was seized for other reasons.

@seyewest, pardon my naivity, i'm a 1st time traveller. The only reason I am considering landing @nyc is the cost. I could save as much as 200k+ if I do so. I have read of some being turned back at the POE and don't want to experience such. Do u then feel my tellin them the decision to fly to NYC first was because of the cost is weighty enough for the strictest personnel to waive such. My final destination is about 3hrs from nyc.‎

Layover /stopovers in other countries does not entitle you to enter that country. You must have a visa. So if you want to enter those countries, if yoy don't have a visa, you will definitely have issues. And fyi 4 hours isn't a long wait.
Yes some countries are high on the US's watchlist and attract a higher level of scrutiny(eg colombia) . But if you have nothing, to hide then no ish.

I intend booking a flight to the US.
However, i didn't see any direct flight so i would like to know the following?

1. Is it okay to transit to other countries before eventually getting to the US? i'm asking cuz someone mentioned one could have problems at the POE esp where one transits through certain countries with high radical activities.

2. where one transits tru an airport within the US, can one choose to enter the particular state to sight see, instead of being at the airport waiting for hours to board the flight to the eventual destination (looking at a 4hour wait period).

3. where one chooses to enter at the transit state, would one have issues at the POE since the intention is just to look around before proceeding to the final destination.

GEJ as 'clueless' as u term him was a better president. Yes, his only failing was giving a free hand to his 'friends' to loot. But if u consider the Nigerian kinda politics, I feel he did that to create a leverage for his re-election. Perhaps he wld hv been firmer if he won (we might never know). Seriously, what's wrong with GEJ's comment? Forget the way he put it...the essence of that sentence was - there is a difference btw outright theft of funds n corruption. For him theft shd be classed as such (stealing). Corruption thus refers to a fraudulent process that makes one or another receive gains for which he ordinarily shouldn't, noting that such gain might not be immediately financial.

I'm glad few people have woken up. A lousy gov takes our collective resource and redistributes same to whoever he likes in the name of charity. Was he elected to do charity or to provide the basics for society to thrive while ensuring security n protection of lives. It's shameful that some still celebrate such..they apparently don't know what to expect of their leaders...while others would "leave them for God"
