Appleyard:Democracy: "demo":= people, "cracy":= power. Democracy means power to all the people as opposed to power to a selected group of people. Once again, it is not about "majority" but about giving all the power to all the people. In a federation in which each federal unit has its own interests, it is very silly to go by popular vote. If you do go by popular vote, then the units with less demography would have no power and their interests would be nul and void. That is not what "all the power to all the people" stands for. Democracy is not about marginalizing people ! In your nigerian case, if you gave each ethno-political group the same voting power irrespective of demography then the rigging would become impossible. Indeed riggers would only be able to shortchange their own ethno-political group, not the whole country. Indeed if the north wants a northerner as president, even if they claim 10 billion people voted for him in the north, that would not affect the electoral process, the voting power of each ethno-political group wouldn't change according to its population or rigging power. Your system is not workable, and you guys don't see it, which is why you keep it and marvel at the fact it is not working each time you have elections. An other drawback to your system is the fact each group is trying to greatly increase its population and therefor the country is rapidly going through intense overpopulation. |
ClassicNairan:So a country which got its constitution in 1974 has a democracy which is older than the usa's democracy ? Look what I don't tolerate is people who make their own facts. And to them, this is what I have to say: It is ok to not be a fan of the usa, but don't change reality to suit your feelings. As some people say, facts don't care for feelings. Stop thinking with your feelings, use your brain instead. Being skilled in mathematics doesn't eliminate me from geopolitical debates nor does it make me less skilled than others on geopolitics. I've basically been debunking the "skilled geopoliticians" for a while here. Also being a "skilled" geopolitician doesn't imply you are above logic and can make up your logic and your facts. |
ClassicNairan:Clap for yourself, I guess I'm not allowed to guess on anything. @procashtips just dumped names of countries without providing any actual data on them. He expected me to go and do research for his own claim, therefore wasting my own time. I knew very well some of the countries he named and therefore easily debunked his claims on them, but for the ones which I didn't know, I replied by guessing they were new countries. Oh I was wrong. Clap for yourself again. But just one simple fact San Marino's constitution is from the 1970's. How is that older than the USA's democracy ? I find it hard to understand what type of silly game some of you are playing. @procashtips was just basically trying to have me waste my time researching his baseless claims. I don't operate with you people's crazy rules of discussion where people don't need to prove their claims and it is those at the recieving end of the claims who need to do research on the claims. Here I've just wasted 5 minutes to find out the constitution of this unknown country is from the 1970's which debunks @procashtips claim of it having a democracy older than the USA's. News flash: I don't know every country on earth ! |
Procashtips:You believe me asking you to prove your own claims is the same as me giving you homework? No, that is just me reminding you of the logical rules of the world. You prove your claim, you don't get to delegate that to me. |
Procashtips:We don't evolve in the same intellectual environment. By the way Albert Einstein is not my model in science, I don't steal other people's work and get famous for that work, also I make less mistakes in my calculations than Albert Einstein did. And finally I'm a mathematician, he was a physicist. I love his human values though. |
Procashtips:This is what I don't particularly appreciate with you, you keep being vague. Why not specify which countries instead of saying "some of the countries" ? Once again you seem confused, I am not your student, you don't get to give me homework. If you have a claim, then kindly prove it yourself. I'm not going to waste my time proving or disproving your own claim. |
Procashtips:To prove that American democracy is the oldest (without referring to official documents which say so), I would need to take every democracy on earth and compare their date of Inception to that of America. You could have simply asked me to provide evidence to my claim, in which case I would have looked for such evidence (mostly in the form of official documents which make that claim, because I'm not going to spend two weeks verifying every democracy on earth). Instead you claimed I were wrong. To prove that American democracy is not the oldest in the world, it suffices to just show one democracy which is older, and you failed to perform that simple task. I can be excused for believing that American democracy is the oldest if I were wrong, because it could be that my sources of information were wrong and doing the verification by myself is extremely time consuming, but you came here to say that America is not thr oldest democracy on earth, and you did so without a single older democracy to show. Also, look, I'm not a student, I write books which specialists and students read, you seem stuck in studenthood. |
@procashtips. When you make a claim, anybody is entitled to ask you for evidence, you are not entitled to ask people to prove your own claim for themselves, especially if you are in opposition with the other person. You are basically in a debate and asking your opponent to side with you in the debate. It is weird that you thought you had a point. |
Procashtips:Ancient Greece and current Greece are not the same entity. Also you don't seem to understand that we are talking about uninterrupted regimes. The USA democracy of today is the same government as that created roughly 200 years ago. Switzerland... No, check the dates. Finland ... Finland didn't even exist as a country until russian revolution saw it breakaway from Russia. Dude, you don't understand that for your claim, you have to provide evidence. I'm not in the business of providing evidence for your claims, I have my own claims to prove and many people have claims as well, should I just spend my lifetime proving people's claims or should everybody prove his own claim ? I thought you were smarter than this, but you are a product of your Nigerian environment. "San Marino Isle of Man Faro Island" I'm pretty sure these are new countries. |
Masterviolence:Try to not contradict yourself when you write. I keep observing people here making statements in which they contradict themselves. China does care about its breakaway region taiwan ! You said it, china wants reunification, you can't say that and then also claim china doesn't care about taiwan ![]() Also Hong Kong is totally part of china, china is not "a father to hong kong", hong kong is part of china and not a breakaway region. Take care though, I'm tired today. Hard day. |
Procashtips:It would make more sense if you actually showed me an older democracy than America. That is how a logical argumentation is done. It is not about just making a claim and then expecting everything to fall around your claim. |
Democracy:= power to all the people. Democracy is not about power to the bigger demographics and marginalisation of smaller demographics. |
Newton2024:Which mind reading university did you graduate from ? This is the 21st century in which it is well established that mind reading is a fraud. Dude, you can't be a serial killer and then claim people condemn you only because they are racist. |
ClassicNairan:You got things messed up, and I have corrected this misconception about democracy several times on this thread. Democracy has nothing to do with "majority rule", don't confuse your Nigerian mindset with logic and situation outside Nigeria. America is the oldest democracy in the world, and since inception they inscripted this rule which gave equal power to states irrespective of demographic comparison between states. It has never been about "popular vote" ! It is actually more logical to not go by popular vote if you want every group to have its say, your Nigerian democracy is just about which group has bigger population or which group Riggs better. While with American democracy, it is about what each group wants, and that will be balanced by giving each group equal power. In a multiethnic country like Nigeria, it would make much more sense to have a system of voting similar to the USA's. But since most Nigerians are extremely ill educated and don't really understand what democracy means, we have people like you judging America's democracy with the belief that Nigerian "democracy" is the model for all to follow. I keep correcting this and people keep coming out to remake the same mistake, that is the problem with nairaland and Nigeria in general. This gets me aggravated. |
WriiterNg:What is this guy smoking ? How can it be illegal for Russia to allow someone to vote in russian elections ? So Russia giving this people rights is illegal ? What type of democracy does NATO actually defend ? |
Fash20:Tinubu, how is the invasion of Niger by drunk comedians stand force going 🤣? |
Procashtips:Putin took over Russia when Russia was not doing good at all, and now Russia has become one of the biggest 5 economies in the world, and russian military is back to soviet era might. And fools expect Russians to not love Putin or to not vote for him 🤣 Nobody even doubts that Putin will not hesitate one second before giving his life for Russia's best interests. |
Can someone ban the troll whom is just taking up so much space and making the thread harder to navigate ? |
lanre316:So "egypt administered it" is now synonymous to "it was part of egypt" ? Why do you guys love to keep arguing when you are obviously wrong ? From your document: "During World War I, it fell to the British forces and became part of the British Mandate of Palestine. Following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Egypt administered the newly formed Gaza Strip. It was captured by Israel in the Six-Day War in 1967." |
lanre316:Completely wrong, Egypt lost parts of the Sinai, and won it all back in an other war. You confuse Egypt with Syria, it is Syria's land (Golan hights) which are still occupied by israel. And I think parts of Lebanon are also occupied by israel. Also it is revisionism to claim that "they went against israel". Actually israel attacked them "pre-emptively" with an army full with ww2 veterans from the ussr and america and europe. |
Blakjewelry:1. What is your definition of "the number of elements of a set" ? 2. Why do you assume A and B are equipotent ? 3. I'm not asking for an example of A, B and C in which C and B are equipotent and (the intersection of A and C) is void. I'm asking you to give me a candidate for C whenever A and B are given. So you are quite out of topic. But nice try. |
Allthelight:So in your head, soldiers diying in a war is the same as more than 15000 children being killed ? And also, cutting of optic cable is worse than killing more than 15000 children ? And also, you can just GUESS who cut the cable and call him a terrorist while the known killer of more than 15000 children is OK by you. |
Blakjewelry:Sorry bro, you failed. Who said A or B were finite ? Also, you don't know what a bijection is. Also, again, A and B are random sets, not specified sets. In other words, I am asking you to solve the problem for every couple (A;B) of sets. Nice try though. |
Allthelight:Cutting optic cable is terrorism, but killing more than 15000 children is not ? In the case of the killing of 15000 children, the people doing it are well known to all. In the case of the cutting of optic cable, you are just guessing whom is guilty. Make this make sense. |
ClassicNairan:Sorry bro, nice try, but you failed. You are given two random sets A and B, you have to find a set C such that ( C is equipotent to B and (the intersection of A and C) is void ). I want to see you present a candidate for C ! Do you understand the problem now ? |
WrriterNg:Good dog, you make your master happy. |
WrriterNg:The purge movies seems to have been documentaries of the new York subway. |
shoodboi2:This is not good, Nigerians don't do maths seriously. |
shoodboi2: shoodboi2:"You people" 🤣 I'm just trying to see the level at which I should put this problem. I need to ask people to solve it for that. "is a bijection" is a predicate which you should be familiar with if you past the scientific (or general) waec. |
It is a simple problem but I bet 99/100 of Nigerian maths professors can't solve it. |
Nigerians love to argue and always act as if they were the smartest people alive on earth, but each time you bring up a small maths problem, they all go silent 🤣 Ghostagain: |
WrriterNg:Don't rule out ww3.. Ok Just make sure you and all your family members are amongst the troops who would be sent to Ukraine. |
