European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Can England Make A Beckham Out Of Bellingham by giftedminds(op): 12:25pm On Jul 15
The stage is set for a redemption match for the English team and that is one of the many colours of tonight's match.

In Japan, Beckam, the England skipper scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, after Owen was chopped down by Mauricio Pochettino for a history making match.

At the preliminary stage, we had watched a goalless draw for England against Nigeria in the final match and that was enough for them to progress, while Argentina - who concluded with a 1-1 draw against Sweden - were eliminated before the knockouts for the first time since 1962.

England went on to beat Denmark in the last 16 before being knocked out by Brazil - and Ronaldinho's impudent free-kick - in the quarters.

BBC Sport's chief football reporter Phil McNulty remembers: "The futuristic Sapporo Dome was the scene of redemption for Beckham and England at the 2002 World Cup in Japan.

"Lingering tensions between the teams in the wake of Beckham's red card against Argentina in France four years earlier, along with a painful defeat on penalties in the last 16, made this a highly-charged occasion.

"And it was England - led by Sven-Goran Eriksson with Marcelo Bielsa his opposite number - who came out on top with a 1-0 win, fittingly scored from the spot by Beckham a minute before half-time, contentiously awarded after future Spurs manager Pochettino was adjudged to have fouled Owen."

EducationProprietors Condemns Otubela Self-help Style To Take Over Napps Leadership by giftedminds(op): 3:23pm On Dec 30, 2024
The umbrella body of Proprietors of Private School Owners in Ekiti State (NAPPS) has strongly condemned the actions of Chief Yomi Otubela, the former national president of the Association. According to members interviewed, Chief Yomi Otubela's decision to convene a meeting in Ekiti State, where he unilaterally appointed Chief Olajuyigbe Olabanji Smith, is a blatant disregard for democratic principles.

Members described the meeting as a "beer parlour" gathering, where Chief Yomi Otubela acted in a manner that belittled his level of education and previously held office. They questioned why democratic tenets and practices were shoved aside to perpetuate what they termed a "dastardly act" of undermining democracy.

In a discussion with the incumbent state Chairman, Pastor Durojaiye Samson Ojo, our correspondent learned that the association is calling on Chief Yomi Otubela to face the court case pending against him at the Federal High Court in Lagos. Pastor Durojaiye emphasized that until the case is determined, he remains the validly elected State Chairman of Ekiti State NAPPS, and he is enjoying overwhelming support from members.

The South West President of the association, Comrade 'Deji Olatona while condemning Otubela's act, cautioned him against setting up crisis in Ekiti State. He charged Ekiti State NAPPS members to resist the imposition.

ANDOAKAA SHINES AT NAPPS GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY IN ABUJA.

Soldiers don't belong on the streets, but the street of Abuja will be eternally grateful for having Lieutenant Benjamin Andoakaa on the street of Bwari where NAPPS Nigeria held her historic NAPPS House ground breaking ceremony on Wednesday 2nd July, 2023.

The 18 years jinx breaking event couldn't have been successful without the presence of men and officers from the Nigerian Army. And going by Nigeria system which is often driven by "what's there for me and the boys" one would had expected Lieutenant Andoakaa to make a brisk business of the outing, but the exceptional officer seized the occasion of his meeting with NAPPS National President- Chief Yomi Otubela fcma, to correct the ignoble impressions that men in uniform are mostly corrupt. He told his guest, that the federal government had provided service trucks with fuel for patrol purposes, and that his men had no intention of profiteering from legitimate duty. He added that the safety of lives and property is of priority and that he would do whatever it takes to ensure safety in Bwari.

Such men are rare to come by and with this exceptional officer in charge of Bwari Municipal, safety of lives and properties truly comes first.

He understood that the success of the ground breaking event could help change the perception of soldiers and show that they were not just about guns and violence, but about serving the nation and its people.

Chief Yomi Otubela fcma and guests were impressed by Lieutenant Andoakaa's integrity and dedication. Having heard stories of corruption within the military, but meeting Lieutenant Andoakaa shattered those misconceptions.

Lieutenant Benjamin Andoakaa and his men had by this outing, preached that there are still honourable men serving in uniform, willing to go above and beyond their duty and that not all soldiers are corrupt or power-hungry. There are those like him, who go above and beyond their call of duty to protect, serve, and uplift the good image of this country.

The presence of Lt. Benjamin Andoakaa and his men on the streets of Bwari is for an indelible mark on the hearts of NAPPS members, residents and the people, who will forever be grateful for his selflessness and dedication to their safety and well-being.
