AHEAD of this year's edition of the global children's day celebration, the local planning committee has rolled out a mouth watering entertainment activities and competitive programmes aimed towards satisfying the desire of Ekiti children to be entertained, celebrated and offered a platform to ease the negative impact of the covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, 2021 Ekiti State NAPPS Children's Day Planning Committee, Arakunrin Eyitayo F.B, disclosed that expected at this year edition , were school age children from the 16 Local Government Area of Ekiti State. "The process of putting this event together started last year, but the sudden disruption of academic activities as a result of the covid-19 pandemic halted the eventual hosting. We have secured varieties of investment towards this event from philanthropists, friends and donors. But we are hopeful for more."
He added that, all participating schools are expected to participate in the Match Past and Flag hoisting, virtual game, etiquette session, while nominated children would participate in various categories of educational contests.


In her remark, a female member of the Committee announced that the eventual overall best school would be adopted as Ekiti NAPPS Project Ambassador with commensurate package and outstanding pupils and students would be presented with their awards at the event.

The State President, Reverend Oluwafemi Williams affirmed the State Executive Council support for the Committee's effort and charged them to strive towards making it so unique.

Young DJ Glory sentenced to life imprisonment in Ekiti.


News filtering from Ekiti State courtroom, said a young disc jockey (DJ), Kayode Seun, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ekiti State High Court for kidnapping three schoolgirls on May 2nd 2018 in the peaceful town of Ayetoro.

The presiding judge, Justice Abiodun Adesodun held that “the defendant is found guilty as charged and is convicted accordingly and he is sentenced to life imprisonment.”
According to the Prosecutor, Mr Wale Fapounda, the defendant and others now at large kidnapped three underaged secondary school girls names withheld.
He submitted that the offence is contrary to Section 3(a) of the Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Law of Ekiti State, 2015.
One of the victims, who narrated her ordeal said, she was in the company of her three friends to ease themselves during break time in their school when they saw three men.
She said that the three men descended on a tree,they held them, tied their mouth before tied them to a tree and started jubilating adding that their shout for help attracted the villagers who came to their rescue.
The prosecutor, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda called 5 witnesses including the victim and I.P.O to proof his case while the accused statement was tendered as exhibit.
While the counsel to the defendant, Mr Yinka Opaleke only spoke through his lawyer and called no witness.

As a result of the new norms in the national settings, we learnt that the yearly NAPPS day celebration couldn’t hold with glamours as expected in Ekiti State.

Reverend Oluwafemi Williams in a press release, however promised his people to look forward to an elaborate celebration as being put forward by the 2020 NAPPS Day Planning Committee.

He recently called on NAPPS Lagos State too reclaim her position in the scheme of things before Proprietors and Proprietresses are all sent to their untimely graves because of the excesses of Lagos State Government officials who are now wearing the toga of tin gods.

He said, most of the members are pointing accusing fingers towards officials of the Quality Assurance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, who they said are highly culpable in the death of this erstwhile Chairman of Mushin Local Chapter of NAPPS, Lagos State.

Private Schools across the State resumed on September 21, 2020 after six months closure. The lockdown was unprecedented for private schools in Nigeria but everybody accepted it as one of those sacrifices to make so that the life of children in our care, our Staffs as well as we Proprietors can be safe from COVID 19.

According to reports, officials of the Quality Assurance, Mushin Local Government Council resumed with the school on Day 1 causing unnecessary commotion in the school looking for what is not available in their own public schools. After turning the school upside down, they left but not without demanding for envelope.

Meanwhile, the leadership and members of NAPPS in the Chapter have resolved at a meeting that all NAPPS schools in the Mushin Local Government Council should use the first three weeks to rush through the Third Term syllabus of 2019/2020 Academic Session and hold examination in the fourth week so as to give the children in their care a brushing before promoting them to the next classes.

What more could a caregiver do than this? In return for this fantastic idea they agreed to charge a flat rate of N10'000 to cover lectures, printing of examination papers and token salary for the teachers.

Some of the parents of Summerland Schools, Mushin vehemently refused to pay the fee and threatened to bring down the gate and overrun the school.

Police were called in to restore orders but some particular set of parents boasted about their connections in Alausa and threatened to close down the school the next day.

True to their threats, 8 officials of the Quality Assurance stormed the school on Tuesday morning despite the fact that their Mushin Local Government office counterparts visited the same school on Monday, September 21, 2020. They came with instructions and subjected the poor Proprietor to another round of unnecessary harassment and intimidation.

Pastor Onifade was a patient with some history of High Blood pressure. He went through a rigorous verbal and psychological stress from these people again from morning till later in the day when they left.

Ladies and Gentlemen, when did it become the function of the Ministry of Education to decide how a private School run its affairs financially.

How many banks, hospitals, Law Chambers have been ridiculed as much as schools by government officials under this regime?

Do you need a truckload of officials to come on a fact finding job as easy as what amount to charge for services rendered.?
Is it a sin to run a Private School in Lagos State again?
Let the Ministry of Education tell us.

To say this is happening under a Ministry headed by a former Proprietress of a private school is ridiculous.

Under former Director, Quality Assurance Department, Mrs Ronke Soyombo this did not happen yet the level of compliance was greater.
Why should a connected parent run the child's school for the proprietor? This is absurd and cannot stand.
The Commissioner should not just sit is Alausa and read reports sent to her by her officials without having a third opinion.

Following on the recklessness of the Quality Assurance Department of Lagos State Ministry of Education are the Health Officials from the Local Government Councils and Area Councils.
They storm private schools in private Trucks and cars and issue orders as if they are Army of Occupation in private schools. They condemn some Certificates of Fumigation as fake even when private schools have done the needful. They insist on their own fumigators who call prices as high as N25'000 to fumigate an 8 rooms bungalow and N50'000 and above from multi- storeys buildings!!!


Public schools are supposed to be models for private schools. As much as 80% of the public schools are roofless in my area as l write this piece and these are the same people who are causing commotions and leaving tears and blood in their trails when they visit Private Schools.



One of the BOT member, during a press session, said; If Lagos State Government cannot lighten our burden, they should not be an obstacle.

He called on fellow Proprietors and Proprietresses to continue to carry on while praying that the soul of Pastor IDOWU ONIFADE rest in peace.

It is a new normal in school system world over. Worst hit are owners of private schools in Nigeria.
The worst case scenario are those whose schools are in States tagged civil Servant states. Such as Ekiti, kogi and few others.
Reports from schools shows that, there is a looming crisis arising from misunderstanding over the appropriateness of a call on parents to pay tuition for an abridged third term calendar.
Here are some of the grounds why it is pertinent;
a. Most private schools failed to embark on aggresive school fee drive in March. Therefore, couldnt raise fund to pay staff salary. So, 6 months teachers salary, if paid, would generate a huge economic positives.
b. The need to motivate and give a sense of reassurance to teachers and other staffers that their statutory benefits and rewards is of concern. on a compassionate ground, they should be paid.
c. Aside a few weeks of general lockdown, most businesses took off immediately, except schools, and the aviation sector.

The lone voice

Across the 36 States and the FCT, the cheering news is that the nearly six months school closure window is gradually becoming a history.
You will recall, one of the early preventive measures taken by the FGN and most of the governors, was sudden closure of Schools. A development which till date generates mixed reactions. To say, this measure yielded desired results is a discourse for another day.

As it is, the burden of paying school fees in a time when most homes are groaning under the sledge of economic woes of varying degrees, gets messier as most proprietors and their associations might not be putting into considerations the need to fix fee with compassion.

Reports from most of the visited private schools in Lagos State, Oyo State and Ekiti State reflects that parents are resulting to one on one bargain. The idea behind this move is to draw empathy from the bursar, administrator and possibly the school proprietor.

Oh! Most of these issues coming out now are smokes. The actors are far from the burners. May God help our Country and Countrymen
