Sports › Re: Akpeyi Listed As Nigeria Olympics Goalkeeper by giles14(m): 12:29pm On Jun 17, 2016 |
robosky02: South Africa-based Daniel Akpeyi will be on Nigeria’s squad to the Rio Olympics as one of the over-aged players and he will be the top-choice goalkeeper ahead of Emmanuel Daniel in Brazil.
Akpeyi, who plays for Chippa United in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League, is a late inclusion to Nigeria’s provisional list as one of several over-aged players and he is now set to be selected as one of the three over-aged players in the squad, Africanfootball.com reported.
The 29-year-old was initially not in contention for a place in the squad, as Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia had listed only outfield players as possible over-aged for the Games, but appears to have had a change of heart.
“Dan (Akpeyi) was not on the list but coach (Siasia) realises he needs an experienced goalkeeper in the squad especially after the Korea tournament,” an official of the Nigeria Football Federation said.
“He (Akpeyi) is not new to coach and that’s why he has been selected and I can tell you that he will make the team except any last minute change like his club refusing to release him, which we don’t think will happen,” the source informed further.
Akpeyi is expected to resume for pre-season on July 6 with his club while he will not be with the Nigeria U23 all through a training camp in US later this month. The goalkeeper is however expected to join them in time for the Games in Brazil.
The goalkeeper has previously worked with Siasia and was a member of the silver-winning FIFA U20 World Cup team in 2005 and was also part of Nigeria’s Olympic squad in 2008.
The latest being the ill-fated 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt, of which Siasia was the Super Eagles coach on an interim capacity and Akpeyi was in goal in the return leg in Alexandria.
But contrary to general reports that Victor Moses may be dropped from the team, The PUNCH has confirmed from the NFF that the Chelsea player never made the list.
“From the list available to me, Victor’s name is not there. I have a copy of the provisional list the coach is working with and his name was not even in the original list drawn up,” the NFF top official said on Wednesday.

Business › Bailout: 3o States Fail Test by giles14(op): 7:42am On Jun 17, 2016 |
Thirty states of the Federation have failed to meet the 22 stringent conditions demanded by the Federal Government in order to access the N90 billion budget support loan facility for them at nine percent interest rate. This was even as only one state declined to access the loan. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel broke the news to State House Correspondents, yesterday, that, only five states met the stringent conditions for the loan. The loan will be disbursed at the next Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja. This is the third bailout the Federal Government has given to states to enable them meet their obligations, including payment of salaries. President Muhammadu Buhari had, in July 2015, approved about N804.7 billion intervention package to help bankrupt states pay salaries. A repayment plan was also worked out on how the states would meet those obligations. Also, the Federal Government deferred up to N10.9 billion obligatory repayments due from states for April this year, in respect of their restructured bailout loan obligations. On Tuesday, government announced a fresh N90 billion bond for states with 22 stringent conditions attached to it. The conditions are contained in its Fiscal Sustainability Plan (FSP) Fiscal Framework for Sub-National Governments (states) in Nigeria which Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, released at a stakeholders’ meeting attended by the 36 states Commissioners for Finance. The stringent conditions followed a report the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) published, which showed that most of the states diverted the funds earlier given as bailouts. Addressing newsmen at the end of the National Economic Council meeting presided by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Emmanuel, said it was not compulsory for states to access the bailout, but noted that it was as a result of the economic crunch that has hit the country today. “It is not compulsory. What is important is can people have access to a lifeline? You see, what is happening today is not peculiar to Nigeria as a country, you know the impact of the fall in crude oil price that has actually affected oil producing countries like Nigeria. “What we are looking at are solutions; we must provide a lifeline for people to survive and to move on, I don’t think it’s too much. “It doesn’t actually mean that states which will take this money do not have something accruable also from the federal government, pending the time we reconcile our books. The federal government may have some balances for the state government, but, in the meantime, while we are waiting for those reconciliations to be concluded, can we open up the window so we can have access to liquidity and implement our 2016 budget. I think that is the whole idea.” Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, reported to the council that the balance in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) as at June 15, 2016, stood at $ 2.261 billion. http://sunnewsonline.com/bailout-3o-states-fail-test/ |

RealNigeriafilm: Lots of eulogies have been coming in from all angles for late music producer and singer, OJB Jezreel, who passed on in the early hours of Tuesday, June14, 2016.
Not many tend to have liked the singer especially with the fact that he made public his health challenges some years in need of help but was ridiculed in some quarters.
For Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, it is not easy speaking about someone like OJB, whom according to her she has so much respect for.
The actress stated that she hates eulogizing people but she could not hide her feelings for the late singer whom she describes as a supportive and very humble fellow.
According to her,
“I've always hated eulogies but wow OJB! You were kind, humble and supportive. Producing my first album, you moved into my home for about 2weeks.! We talked about a lot even till recently. May all your loved ones find solace in knowing you are a legend. celebrating the gift of Ojb.”

The young man is saying he is being pressured to return money without being tried to prove he took the said money illegally.
To compound the issue, the person who gave him the money said she did not know the money came from government. The question is if the giver did not know, how do you except the receiver to know?

Politics › Don’t Bring Religious War To Southwest, Babatope Warns Aregbesola by giles14(op): 10:53am On Jun 16, 2016 |
Former Minister of Transport and Aviation, Chief Ebenezer Babatope has warned Governor Rauf Aregbesola not to plunge Osun state and the South West into unnecessary war which he would not be able to handle by the time it starts. The Ilesha born septuagenarian politician, gave the warning yesterday when he spoke with Daily Sun on the religion crisis rocking Osun State, and made it clear that bringing religion into politics have done too much havoc in Nigeria. Babatope said : let the governor not bring religion into politics because South West have always been co-existing as Christians and moslems and we don’t need any governor to come and be promoting one religion over another. “Let him have very good dialogue with the Christians community and face the governance that he was elected for, because promotion of Islamic religion over Christianity was not part of his campaign promises. “Let him concentrate on how to pay his workers salaries and work on how he will never owe salary again instead of this distraction he is occupying himself with.” he added. Babatope lamented that a lot of workers are suffering in Osun State, where he now lives, and explained that the governor should be concerned about the suffering of these government workers and the people of Osun who are lamenting daily. According to the former minister, religious crisis have caused a lot of bloodshed, in Kano, Jos, Kaduna, Bauchi and many other place in the North until it graduated into Boko Haram. “Aregbesola should not sow such seeds of religious competition in the minds of young people in the South West now so that they will not grow up to start promoting religion crisis. “Is it this hijab or uniform wearing that will make them to become brilliant students, promote the standard of education and let them become useful to the society?” he asked He then advised all governors in Nigeria to develop large heart of seeing themselves as governors to all and not for a particular religion, ethnic group or political party, saying good leaders don’t lead that way, except such leaders don’t want to succeed. Female muslim and Christian students had started wearing hijab and church garments to school to promote their Islamic and Christian religions in some schools in the state. This followed the judgement of Osun High Court that female Muslim students in the state are allowed to wear hijab to public schools, which some Christian leaders and owners of missionary schools like Baptist High School, Salvation Army Middle School, felt it was a subtle method to start promoting Islam in their mission schools. To this end, they urged their Christian students to as well wear their church garments to school, which Governor Aregbesola allegedly kicked against, saying any student caught wearing unapproved uniform to school will be expelled. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state have kicked against the governor’s action, saying if he is encouraging Muslim students to wear Islamic apparel to christian missionary schools he should not stop Christian students from wearing their Christian apparel to the such Christian missionary schools. http://sunnewsonline.com/dont-bring-religious-war-to-southwest-babatope-warns-aregbesola/ |
