Politics / Wike: Rivers Gov Moves To Shut Down Port Harcourt Hotel Where Amaechi Lodges by gist212: 9:59pm On Aug 02, 2017

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his predecessor Rotimi Amaechi are doing everything possible to destroy what is left of each other’s reputation and political career.

In what is the latest in their protracted feud, Wike has reportedly ordered the revocation of the certificate of occupancy a hotel in Port Harcourt, where Amaechi lodges when he visits the state.

The Novotel Hotel facility, which is located at 3 Stadium road, Rumola, Port Harcourt, is said to be a four star hotel with 117 rooms.

Wike described the hotel as a “den of electoral fraudsters”, adding that his administration will not tolerate insecurity and instability.

A former commissioner of information in the state, Austin Tam-George, had expressed disappointment over the Governor’s action.

He said, “The revocation of the certificate of occupancy of Novotel Hotel in Port Harcourt over the weekend by Governor Nyesom Wike disappoints and saddens me.

“If a business premises is suspected or established to be a crime scene, the police, acting on a court order, could move in to take control.

“It is extraordinary for a state government to revoke the certificate of occupancy of a business, simply because opposition politicians lodged there.

“Politicians in the state might think this is part of politics.”
But in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 2, Wike’s spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu, faulted the ex-commissioner’s comment.

He said, “Novotel is not above the law. Therefore, it must face the consequences of its illegal actions.

“Dr Tam-George is aware that Governor Wike never plays to gallery. He is always committed to the defence of Rivers people. Tam-George is aware that Rotimi Amaechi and hundreds of security personnel used Novotel during the rerun elections.

“On Saturday, 30th July, 2017, Novotel lived up to its notorious reputation as a den of electoral fraudsters. Amaechi and his associates used the hotel to rig the APC local government congress. This ungodly action led to mass protests across Port Harcourt, which culminated in protests within the premises of Novotel.

“It took the timely intervention of Governor Wike for the situation to be contained as the security personnel detailed to assist the minister of transportation rig his party’s non-elective congress almost opened fire on the protesters.

“While Governor Wike continues to build the framework for investments in the state, he will continue to insist that all businesses operate in line with the tenets of the law.”

The hotel, however, is still going about its normal business operations.
Someone believed to be a staff of the hotel confirmed to The Cable that the business is still running.

“We are still in business, normal activities are ongoing,” he said.
Amaechi’s camp has not reacted to the development as at the time of filing this report.

Popular comedian and actor, Okey Bakassi has stated that the rate of drug abuse and consumption in Nigeria is alarming.

Okey lamented that more worrisome is the high number of Nigerian celebrities engaging in illicit drugs, which he said was bad influence on the youths.

Bakassi spoke when he appeared as a guest on Emma Ugolee’s ‘The Gist’ alongside African China and Sound Sultan.

His words: “Conservatively 70% of Nigerian Celebrities are on some sort of substance today.

“They have gone ballistic. You hear a lot of names- SK, Kush, Loud, etc. the names come everyday and you’re struggling to keep up with the nomenclature of it.”

Bakassi, however, admitted that he also indulged in the act when he was younger, and noted that entertainers often take drugs to boost their creativity.

Politics / Biafra: North Will Never Islamise Igbo Land In My Life Time – Nnamdi Kanu by gist212: 9:23am On Jul 19, 2017

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has clearly Stated that no part of Igbo land will be islamised in his life time.

while making a speech at Nri, the ancestral home of Igbos in Anambra State, he said that the plot to islamise Nigeria was real but nobody will be able to achieve such “evil agenda” in his life time.

Kanu said, “The Islamisation plot is real but they won’t succeed in my life time. No, never; not when I am alive.

“The struggle for Biafra which I proudly lead is not a secessionist aspiration of NdiIgbo only as some erroneously think.

“Biafra is not just a living agitation but a fight for the survival of Christians in Nigeria against the entrenched threats of radical Islamic fundamentalists and their political collaborators within and outside Nigeria.”

Kanu’s warning is coming at a time when the General Overseer of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo had alleged that “Islamists are bent on islamising Nigeria.”

Business / Crude Oil Price Inches Up To $49 As US Drilling Declines by gist212: 3:49pm On Jul 18, 2017

Crude oil price on Monday edged up to about $49 per barrel after fewer drilling rigs were added in the United States, thus easing concerns that surging shale supplies will undermine the efforts by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-OPEC to reduce the level of inventory in the oil market.

While the Brent crude, the global benchmark traded at $48.99 per barrel, the US crude traded at $46.57 per barrel.
Reuters quoted Baker Hughes as reporting that US drillers added two oil rigs in the week to July 14, bringing the total to 765.

Rig additions over the past four weeks averaged five, the slowest pace of growth since November, the report said.
A sharp drop in US crude inventories in the week to July 7 supported prices last week. But crude stocks in industrialized nations remained high, putting a brake on the oil price rally.

Oil prices are less than half their mid-2014 level because of a persistent glut, even after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries with Russia and other non-OPEC producers cut supplies since January.

While OPEC-led cuts have offered prices some support, rising supplies from Nigeria and Libya, two OPEC states exempt from the pact, and increasing U.S. production have weighed on the market.

Kuwait said on Friday the market was on a recovery track due to rising demand and said it was premature to cap Nigerian and Libyan output.
An OPEC and non-OPEC committee meets in Russia on July 24 to discuss the impact of the deal.

Under the supply deal, OPEC is curbing output by about 1.2 million bpd, while Russia and other non-OPEC producers are cutting half as much, until March 2018.

The Nigerian and Libyan recovery has prompted talk among producers about asking them to join the supply deal.
The Secretary General of OPEC, Muhammadu Barkindo downplayed expectations this would be addressed soon, saying a meeting on July 24 in Russia of some OPEC and non-OPEC ministers would discuss Nigerian and Libyan output only at a technical level.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had stated recently that Nigeria would in due time join in the crude oil production cut, stressing that the country’s production levels were still quite unpredictable as to guarantee when the country would join the pact.

In a sign of strong demand, data last Monday showed refineries in China increased crude oil throughput in June to the second highest on record. OPEC is hoping higher demand in the second half will get rid of excess inventories.

Politics / Jonathan Made Mistakes, But Buhari Is A Mistake – Reno Omokri by gist212: 1:29pm On Jul 15, 2017

A Statement by the spokesman to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a “mistake”.

Omokri also told Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, to stop making excuses and do his job.

Taking to Twitter, Omokri wrote that before the All Progressives Congress (APC) came into power, Fashola had promised stable electricity, if only the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is voted out.

However, he is now blaming Jonathan, for reducing electricity tariff.

Omokri wrote: “Fashola in 2014: The only way to get stable power is voting out PDP

“Fashola today: We cant get power because GEJ reduced tariff to get vote

“PMB will do well moving @tundefashola from being in charge of generating power for Nigeria to being in charge of generating excuses for govt

“The main difference between GEJ/PDP and PMB/APC is that @GEJonathan made his mistakes as President while @MBuhari is a mistake as President.

“The major difference between the PDP and the APC is that the whereas the PDP had some confirmed liars as members, the APC is itself a lie!”

Phones / Etisalat Nigeria Changes Name To 9mobile - NCC Yet To Be Informed by gist212: 12:23pm On Jul 14, 2017

Telecommunications firm, Etisalat Nigeria has changed its name to 9Mobile following the pull out of Etisalat International, confirming rumours that went around on Thursday.

Etisalat in Abu Dhabi pulled out of Nigeria on Monday and gave the telecoms operations in Nigeria only three weeks to phase out the brand name and adopt a new one.

Its decision to pull out of Nigeria followed the breakdown of talks to reach a favourable agreement over a $1.7 billion loan owed by Etisalat Nigeria.

Meanwhile the change of name has been approved at a management meeting held Thursday.

“9Mobile was unanimously adopted by the company as its new brand name,” an insider in Etisalat Nigeria said.

The Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Etisalat Nigeria, Ibrahim Dikko, had earlier this week dropped a hint as to what the new name of the company could be.

He recalled that at the launch of the company in Nigeria in 2008, ‘0809ja’ was adopted to affirm the “Nigerianness” of its origin and the company’s sphere of influence.

However, the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) said that aside changing its brand name to ‘9Mobile’, Etisalat Nigeria must also change its logo and colour.

The commission noted, however, that the telecommunications company had yet to brief it on the change of brand name.

“I am not privy to any letter to that effect, neither is the Nigerian Communications Commission,” the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Tony Ojobo, said.

“However, brand change involves a lot of processes. The company will need a new logo, colour and even have to call the subscribers to a forum to announce the change of brand name properly. This must be done after they might have informed the regulator,” he added.

The telecommunications operator is yet to unveil the logo of the newly adopted brand name.

The former Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Anthony Elujoba, has been remanded in Ilesha Prisons after the bail application was dismissed.

Justice David Oladimeji of the Federal High Court in Ede, Osun State, ruled that Mr. Elujoba be remanded till July 19 when the case will be brought for hearing.

The former VC is standing trial on a seven-count charge of alleged corruption and abuse of office involving some N1.4 billion.

He is standing trial alongside the bursar of the university, Josephine Akeredolu.

Two lecture-free days declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in solidarity with Mr. Elujoba ended Tuesday

On Tuesday, workers of the university protested the decision of the court to send the embattled professor to prison.

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, locked down the court gate as the ruling was being handed.
No one was allowed to leave the premises of the court at the time of this report.

The workers demanded the judge withdraw his ruling, and authorise the former vice chancellor be kept in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Politics / Recession In Nigeria Is A Great Blessing To Nigeria – APC Chairman, Odigie-oyegu by gist212: 10:47am On Jul 05, 2017

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun yesterday described the ongoing recession in Nigeria as a blessing in disguise.

Odigie-Oyegun made this comment at the University of Benin, Benin City at the 61st Annual Conference of Agriculture/General Meeting of Association of Deans of Agriculture in Nigerian Universities (ADAN).

He noted that if not for the economic downturn, nobody would have given practical thoughts about the capacity of Nigerians to feed themselves, stressing that, “this is another blessing in disguise.”
The chairman noted that the APC-led Federal Government was committed to developing agriculture to make the people to think beyond crude oil.

He said, “The United States of America, which is the greatest economic power pays farmers to produce even the things that they don’t need.

“We have come to that level because the price of a barrel of oil has dropped.”

“It is no longer a matter of choice that we must divert to agriculture. It is unforgivable that we behaved stupidly without a vision for so long.

“Agriculture is about 70 per cent of our growth and the vision would stabilise if we could grow even as low as three per cent,” he said.

Politics / Biafra: Why I’m Flouting Bail Conditions – Nnamdi Kanu by gist212: 4:37pm On Jul 03, 2017

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has given reason why he is breaching his bail conditions fearlessly.

Kanu, speaking in a video interview with some journalists, also cleared the air on his stand over Anambra governorship election billed for November, and his call for Igbos not to worship in churches owned by Yoruba pastors.

Kanu said he was flouting his bail conditions because Buhari had not been held to account first for flouting all the court orders to free him, free El-Zakzaky, Igbo musician Bight Chimezie and others who are still being detained by the Department of State Services, DSS.

Asked if he has backed down on his earlier comment that Igbos should not worship in churches owned by Yorubas, Kanu said, “Yes, because they (Yoruba people) have changed.

He also maintained that IPOB members in Anambra will not participate in the coming governorship election.

When asked if such order will not result to bloodshed or violence, he explained, “How can there be bloodshed when you seat in your house and enjoying Ofe nsala on 18th of November 2017, how is that possible?”

“There’ll be no movement, no cats no dogs no chickens outside. There’ll be nothing”, he added.

On his alleged breech of bail conditions, Kanu said, “Where were they when Buhari breeched court order upon court upon court order to release me?

“Why didn’t anybody go to Buhari in Daura or Aso Rock to ask him why he failed to obey court orders to set me free, to release Dasuki, El-Zakzaky and others?”

Sports / Lionel Messi’s Wedding Venue Raided By The Police – Full Gists by gist212: 1:34pm On Jun 29, 2017

In Argentina, The Police and tax inspectors have carried out a court-ordered search at a casino, which is inside the hotel where Lionel Messi will get married this weekend.

They, however, denied any connection with the wedding.

The raid at the City Center hotel and casino complex in Rosario was authorized by federal Judge Marcelo Baylaque pursuant to an investigation of alleged tax evasion by magnate Cristobal Lopez.

“We are working exclusively with the casino,” Carlos Vaudagna, the regional director of the Federal Administration of Public Revenue, told EFE.

“The hotel is not involved and this will not affect Friday’s event in any way.

“It was just a coincidence that we came a few days prior [to the wedding] , we had the judicial request a month ago but were just granted permission now.

“We came to seize video monitoring tape related to subjects who we believe in 2015 received financial gain or earnings of more than $6,000 in daily [casino] winnings.”

Celebrities / HELP!!! Abuja Lesbians Are After Me – Nollywood Actress by gist212: 10:31am On Jun 27, 2017

Nollywood actress, Ruth Eze in a recent interview with SunNews cried out for help. She wants Nigerians to save her from molestation by lesbians, most especially, those resident in Abuja.

This is coming on the heels of her recent ordeal in the hands of some Abuja-based big babes who mistook her for a lesbian.

Below is what she said:

“Last weekend, I went to Abuja for a movie production, I didn’t know how some ladies got to know I was in town. The ugly drama started inside the hotel where I was lodged.

They came in disguise as colleagues based in Abuja. At first, I didn’t know they had ulterior motives, so I welcomed them with open arms. Suddenly, they started saying some er*tic things to me; I ignored them and kept pressing my phone.”

The actress explained that she had no inkling of what the ladies were up to until one of them drew closer and began to handle her b**bs.

Hear her:

“At the point when one came closer to me and started touching me at the wrong places, I had to stop her and ask why she was doing that.

Then she told me that after reading the interview I granted Saturday Sun in which I said ‘Genevieve makes me wet’ they all concluded that I was a lesbian. I had to explain to them that I didn’t really mean what I said.

I said I was only trying to exaggerate how I felt about Genevieve’s act and nothing more. Rather than deter them, the ladies promised me heaven and earth if I join their gang of homosexuals.

I was so scared, I had to call my boyfriend and put the phone on speaker so as to convince them that I don’t do fellow women.

My dear, I was so scared because I thought they would end up defiling me. They sounded so much in the mood to have me right there. Thank God, it didn’t happen.”

Politics / Militant:no More Oil From Niger Delta If North Carries Out Coup Against Osinbajo by gist212: 9:36am On Jun 27, 2017

A militant group, Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, has threatened to stop oil exploration in the region if Northerners carry out an alleged coup against the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo before October 1, 2017.

In a statement by its spokesperson, WOI Izon-Ebi, yesterday, the group warned that it would resist such action with the last drop of its members’ blood.

The statement read:

“For those with this sinister motive, because they feel President Muhammadu Buhari is debilitated, we advise them to keep the money to fund their junta government because NDRC will resist with their last blood the use of the oil from the Niger Delta to fund their greed and perfidy.

“We call on all oil workers in the Niger Delta to vacate all oil facilities for their own safety. We also call on the operators of the Bonga Oil Field, LNG, NNPC, Port Harcourt Refinery and Warri Refinery to stop all forms of operation because our strike and defence team will be coming to hoist our flag of freedom as a people in all our critical infrastructures and assets of the Niger Deltans.

“We reiterate in strong terms the need for the restructuring of the country and enthronement of fiscal federalism before October 1, 2017.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let it be known that the NDRC and other agitators are aware of the plan by a section of the country to carry out a coup to truncate the leadership of Acting President Osinbajo as Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, is currently incapacitated. There will be no exploration or exploitation in the Niger Delta if a coup occurs before the October 1, 2017 date.

“NDRC and the amalgamation of all freedom fighters with the 21st century youths of the Niger Delta from the South-South region of the country stand in solidarity with the people of the South –East.

“We will no longer accept the born to rule mentality of an ethnic group, which exploits others for the benefits of a few and reiterate that fiscal federalism with power devolved to the regions as the only panacea for peace in the country.

“The NDRC and the people of the Niger Delta can no longer tolerate vituperation of people like Ango Abdullahi and Junaid Mohammed, who are beating the drums of hatred and war.

“Our advice to the government and so -called owners of Nigeria is that there is no slave/master relationship in the Nigerian federation and there is no recorded Nigerian history whereby Usman Dan Fodio conquered the people of the Niger Delta and as such made the Niger Delta become inferior to the people of the caliphate.

“The NDRC states categorically that societies are built on justice and equity and as such, come September 31, 2017, we will prove that this is the 21st century and that the renaissance of the Niger Delta has begun. If our fathers in their benevolence, love and sacrifice are seen as cowards, we, the Niger Delta youths of this 21st century are not cowards and we can prove it.”

The agitators also urged all Ijaws and Niger Deltans in Nigeria and Africa “to immediately come back to their fatherland,” adding: “It has been made known openly by one Alhaji Usman Bagagi of the Northern Elders and Leaders Forum that the North owns the oil and the Niger Delta region because of their landmass and population.

“It is also known by all in Nigeria and the world that the northerners under the guise of Arewa youths had asked all Igbos living in the Northern part of the country to vacate the northern region in three months.

“We call on all oil workers in the Niger Delta to vacate all oil facilities for their own safety. We also call on the operators of the Bonga oil field, LNG, NNPC, Port Harcourt Refinery and the Warri Refinery to stop all forms of operation because our strike and defence team would be coming to hoist our flag of freedom as a people in all our critical infrastructures and assets of the Niger Deltans.”

Politics / Ipob: No Biafra Referendum, No Peace For Nigeria – Says Biafrans by gist212: 11:23am On Jun 24, 2017

Biafrans all over the world have declared that if Nigeria government refuses to grant Biafra referendum to the people of Biafra wherein their political future will be determined and decided, there will be no peace in Nigeria anymore.

Biafrans have issued a strong warning to Nigeria government to stop calling for a meeting with the so-called Igbo Leaders of shame of who have no single recognition or respect from the people due their political prostitution and unprecedented cynicism on the plight of Biafrans in Nigeria.

If Nigeria government continue to be mischievous by going to engage those political jobbers and giving them Ghana Must Go bags of money to be opposing Biafra restoration, it is a mere waste of time and resources, because soon Biafran youths will shift aggression to those shameless Igbo leaders and it will be catastrophic to them because by then, Biafraland will no more contain the angry youths and the so-called useless Elders of shame.

The world is being put to notice that all Biafrans want is Biafra restoration. It is obvious that Biafra restoration does not in any way means the end of Nigeria for Oduduwa and Arewa people who are still interested in Nigeria.

Nigeria will still remain a strong and united nation even after Biafra is gone. Nigeria will never see stability, peace and tranquility again should Nigeria government continued to oppose Biafra sovereignty because a population of 70 Millions cannot be ruled by force in the modern world. The world must know that this generation of Biafrans under the Supreme Command of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu (De Great) will settle for nothing but Biafra restoration.

So, if Nigeria government continues to play ostrich in the stormy gale of requisition for Biafra restoration, by going to people whom have no more relevance in Biafraland, it will continue to be to the detriment of the government of Nigeria because there can never be progress, unity, peace and love in a place where a type of Biafra agitation is going on. The demand of Biafrans is simple – we need back our sovereignty which Britain destroyed in 1904 and established Southern Protectorate of Colonial administration which they later merged with much older Northern Protectorate in 1914 as dubious amalgamation.

But since Nigeria government refuse to heed the called of Biafrans towards Biafra restoration but continue to issue empty threats of jailing the agitators, Nigeria government will never see stability, peace and tranquility again in Nigeria. Should they give Biafrans the referendum, the remaining parts of Nigeria will experience an unprecedented economic growth, peaceful co-existence and mutual respect between Oduduwa and Arewa whom will then form one united Nigeria, because the Biafrans who are heating up the polity and causing distraction to Nigeria government is no there to cause distraction to government any more.

But if Nigeria government continue to hold on Biafrans, government can never have rest of mind to make policies that will move the government to any enviable height in the committee of Nations. Let Nigeria government courageously grant Biafrans referendum because the mind of the people are already made up to restore Biafra or loose anything including their lives on the road to restore Biafra. A word is enough for the wise!

Politics / Biafra: Igbos Shouldn’t Allow Someone Not Born During Civil War Incite Violence by gist212: 11:13am On Jun 24, 2017

The Chairman of Northern Elders Council, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has warned Igbo people not to allow someone who was not born during the civil war to incite violence in the country.

He described the ongoing calls for separation as a mistake that will affect the Igbos most if Nigeria splits, adding that Nigeria’s market of over 180 million people will be lost.

Yakassai blamed the Federal Government for not tackling the threats by the IPOB on time, pointing that it led to the present crisis.

According to Information given, “I believe that the Federal Government was somewhat late in addressing the threats issued by the Igbo.

“These threats by both the North and South are unconstitutional and illegal because every Nigerian has the right to live and work in any part of the country he or she chooses.

“I think the Igbo should not allow a man, who was not even born during the civil war to incite violence in the country.

“Both the Hausa and the Igbo are well travelled traders and if this country splits today, that opportunity is gone, a market of 180 million people.

“All the regions will suffer for it.”
