Popular filmmaker, Antar Laniyan, has a strong desire. He wishes to have a film academy where he can grow young talents, but money is hindering him from achieving his dream.

Laniyan told Sunday Scoop that despite all his years in the movie industry, he had no money to build a film academy. He said, “If any rich man approaches me now, I will tell him I want an academy where I can raise new talents. This is what I know how to do best, but when you don’t have money, your ideas will go to bed. The problem with our industry is that people believe an actor is as rich as the role he plays. That is a fake assumption; we are not rich. But if we have people who can help us, we can do better. The easterners help each other. Once they see that an individual has talent, the rich ones among them are always willing to support him or her. Though we have some selfless southerners too, I have yet to get any help from them.”

Admitting that he notices how his colleagues flaunt wealth on social media, the filmmaker said he does not deceive himself. He said, “If you deceive yourself, it will be hard to get helpers. If you appear to be rich on social media, people will conclude you are rich.”

Laniyan also expressed optimism that the industry would improve in the future. “I know things will get better for actors. Many movies are going to the cinema now and one makes more money there than selling DVD. I know there is a better tomorrow for Nollywood; I see us attaining greater heights,” he stated.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko, has said one of his greatest wish for 2019, is that Nigerians should experience peace during the general elections’ period.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, he spoke about how 2018 was good for him. The talented actor also noted that his plan was to work towards producing successful movies this year.

In a recent post on his Instagram page, popular actor and filmmaker, Yomi Fabiyi, said he had forgiven his fellow colleague, Toyin Abraham. Although he did not state what the actress did to him, Fabiyi further said he had also forgiven a certain lady, Eunice Omosalewa Eniola Lawal, who had accused him of sexual harassment.

In an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, Fabiyi said that he would not disclose the details of his rift with Abraham because it would amount to ‘scratching an old wound’.

He further added that not forgiving them had distracted him in the past and also had some other adverse effects on him.

“I have decided to forgive and let go and I would not want to scratch old wounds. If I start going into details as to what transpired between Toyin Abraham and me, it would mean that I want to scratch the old wounds. I have forgiven her and the apology is secondary but what I am offering is forgiveness and peace. I am doing that for myself and what I represent, which is peace and tranquility.

“It is not about Toyin accepting my apology and I leave everybody to their conscience. As for me, my conscience is my police and I believe in the court of conscience; I judge myself based on my conscience. I have done what I think is right and I have traded my sorrows, my pain and my loss by forgiving (her). I forgive the lady that tried to tarnish my image by saying I sexually harassed her; I also forgive Instablog because I was supposed to continue the court case on January 19, but I just feel that I have a bigger task ahead of me because these are the only things distracting me and it is trying to block my talent and progress.

“It is good to fight for justice and when you get it, you would be at peace but when you forgive, you would be at peace with yourself and gain so many things. Peace is something that we all need all over the world.

“I have been through a lot of setbacks due to betrayal, I would not want to go into the details but I forgive every one that was involved in it. I just want to let it go, I do not want to feel any pain again. I don’t want the thoughts coming into my mind again and that is why I want to forgive; this makes everything heal faster. If you forgive, it is very fulfilling,” he said.

Abdulsalam Salaudeen, a 43-year-old Islamic cleric in Igando, Lagos State, who was arrested for allegedly raping his five-year-old Arabic schoolgirl, has owned up to committing the crime.

The father of five blamed the crime on the handiwork of his enemies whom he said had cast a spell on him.

Salaudeen, in an interview with City Round during the week, claimed that he had been having a running battle with spiritual forces for years.

He said on Friday, December 28, 2018 when the incident happened at a section of the Arabic school on Awoyemi Street, Igando Road, he fought the devil back and forth by saying aausubillahi (God forbid) to no avail.

The native of Oyo State explained that he was accused of raping a girl in his class some years ago when he was living at Ikotun, a neighbouring community, adding that shame forced him to relocate to Igando. “It is the work of the devil,” he said in Yoruba, burying his head in his right palm.

He went on, “I have been living in Lagos for 25 years. I have a wife and five children. My wife and three of the children live with me. My wife does not deny me of sex. The girl was brought for Arabic class about five months ago. On that day, I asked her to go and sweep a section of the class. The place was separated by a wall and I followed her. I asked her to stand on a bench and face the wall. I rolled up her skirts and removed her panties. As I wanted to penetrate her from the anus, I said ‘aausubillahi, aausubillahi (God forbid)’. It was the devil that pushed me to it. My penis only grazed her private parts.

“While I was living in Ikotun, I was accused of raping one of the children attending my class. But I did not rape the girl. She needed a uniform we used in the class and I took her to a tailor to take her measurements. I have been battling with spiritual wars since then. My enemies are many and they have been casting spells on me. I relocated to Igando and started a new Arabic class.”

Salaudeen stated he had regretted his action, noting that he was shocked when he was confronted with a video clip, showing how he molested the girl.

Our correspondent learnt that a neighbour had gone to see Salaudeen at his class recently when he stumbled on him handling the victim. The neighbour was said to have left unknown to Salaudeen.

A police source told City Round that the neighbour reported the case to a child rights’ organisation in the community and he was advised to do a secret video next time he caught the cleric in the act.

“The informant was asked to do a video to get evidence that could nail the cleric. He was well respected in the community and he could have easily denied the allegation. Many people would also not believe he could do such a thing without the video,” the source added.

While speaking about the incident, the spokesperson for the police in the state, CSP Chike Oti, said Salaudeen was arrested after the informant reported the crime at the command headquarters in Ikeja with the video clip.

Oti said, “On Friday, December 28, 2018, a good Nigerian visited the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command with a video evidence of an Islamic cleric, aka Alfa, having anal sex with a five-year-old girl that he was supposed to be teaching Islamic studies. The complainant sought audience with the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi.

“The CP, after watching the heartrending video, directed the command’s undercover operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau to immediately arrest the culprit and hand him over to the Gender Section for detailed investigation. The operatives went in search of the Alfa and arrested him near a mosque in the Igando area of the state.”

Oti explained that the suspect initially denied the allegation when he was grilled at the Gender unit, noting that he, however, owned up to committing the crime after the Officer-in-Charge of the unit, ASP Abimbola Williams, confronted him with the video of him defiling the child by penetrating her anus and private parts.

“On seeing how he was captured like an actor in a movie, the suspect broke down in tears and owned up to committing the crime. The case will be charged to court soon,” Oti added.

The CP commended the informant and warned parents and guardians to keep constant watch over their children and wards. Imohimi urged parents not to trust their children with anybody and to be friendly with them.

He added, “Let your children be free to share things with you. Do not cover up any crime, no matter who is involved. Raise the alarm on child molesters in your neighbourhood so they can face the law to serve as a deterrent to others.”

Two sisters self-described as “the world’s most identical twins” aim to get pregnant by their shared boyfriend and, if the law would allow it, marry him.

Anna and Lucy DeCinque, who made their announcement on an Australian morning show last month, confirmed to Fox News this week that their communal boyfriend is “very happy” with the plan.

The DeCinque twins, 33, appeared on the show Dec. 3 to discuss their decision to eschew plastic surgery despite embracing such procedures in the past, but they soon doubled down on claims that they were planning to marry and get pregnant by their boyfriend Ben Byrne.
“If we can change the law in the government, we’d love to marry Ben,” one of the women said in a clip from the show, which the DeCinque sisters shared to their YouTube channel on Jan. 2.

“This is what works for us. People need to get that. We’re not hurting anyone,” said the other sister.

The twins then revealed that it was their own mother’s idea for Byrne to try to get them both pregnant naturally, though they said they don’t know if they can pull that off.

“Our mom is actually convincing us to go naturally, give birth naturally, so I don’t know how that’s going to work because we need to be pregnant at the same time,” one of the women said.

“Ben will be a busy boy,” responded “Today” presenter Deborah Knight.

The twins had previously revealed that they both wanted to become pregnant by Byrne in a YouTube video they posted in 2017, though they said they were considering using a surrogate or IVF treatments, Yahoo! Lifestyle reported at the time.

“It is a bit of a dilemma,” said Lucy. “We know that’s where nature comes in, we can’t control these things. You can’t force these things.”

Popular Nollywood actor, Yemi Blaq, is known for his deep and intimidating voice. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the Nollywood actor revealed how his deep voice got him a job offer from a radio station instantly.

“I shot a movie in 2007, titled, ‘Letters to a stranger’, but apart from the fact that I looked like the character they wanted; my voice was important in getting me the role. All my brothers talk like me, it’s in the gene. At age 17, I called in on a radio programme, and the managing director of the radio station was the one hosting the programme on that day.

“After the telephone call, he asked me to come the next day and he offered me a job. I thanked him but I couldn’t accept the offer because I wasn’t ready for a job at the time. I am happy my fans love my voice, sometimes when I listen to myself, I also like it. I wanted to focus on my music career then, I wanted to be on stage rapping, singing and doing my things.

“I have recorded a couple of songs, but I am a perfectionist when it comes to music. I am not going to put out anything that doesn’t represent my thoughts and aspirations. I am currently working on some of my songs; they are not the regular secular songs, so I was advised to release them with videos.

“My most cherished physical attribute would be my height, I wanted to be much taller than I am when I was young, but God decided to stop me at 6ft3. My son is going to achieve that for me so I am happy; I wanted my height to stop at 6ft7,” he told Saturday Beats.

The actor also talked about some of the roles he has featured in as an actor, explaining how he handled some challenging ones in the past.

“I have had a couple of challenging roles, there was a time I played the role of a rapist; which has nothing to do with my personality. I interpreted the role so well. The actress I acted alongside had to ask me if that was my real personality; I was satisfied with that comment because it meant I interpreted the role well.

“I love my job so much and I look forward to exploring different roles. Anytime I am going on set, I look forward to meeting new people and challenges. I always feel good when my fans give me positive feedback,” he said.

Asked about his opinion about the many failed marriages in the entertainment industry, the dark-skinned actor noted that the failed marriages in the industry were pronounced because the individuals involved are celebrities.

“There are many failed marriages everywhere, the ones in Nollywood are more pronounced because there are more news stories about celebrities than regular people. It is an anomaly affecting the society today; there is a paradigm shift when it comes to relationships and families. I would advise women to talk to their sons more about what women really desire in a relationship.

“Fathers should also talk to their daughters more about how they should behave in marriage. When I met my wife, we had mutual respect for each other; it wasn’t about the physical attributes, it was about the talent and intellect.

“I have always been sapiosexual; I am not about a woman’s physique; I am about a woman’s mind. Unfortunately, I discovered there are not too many intelligent women around because the society seems to force women to become shelves. The next generation is likely to be affected because a high percentage of a child’s intelligence is got from the mother,” he said.

Commenting on the trend of artistes making songs without edifying lyrics, Waje said, “People are inspired by different things. You don’t have control over another person’s creative process. Meanwhile, this phenomenon is not peculiar to Nigeria; music is changing all over the world. A British police officer was jailed for 25 years on Thursday for 37 offences that included raping a 13-year-old girl in the back seat of his car.

Constable Ian Naude told the jury that the sex was consensual and that the girl “seemed to be enjoying it”.

Naude was assigned to a unit dealing with vulnerable youngsters.

It emerged during the trial that he was named as a sexual offence suspect in neighbouring forces before joining the Cheshire Police in England’s northwest.

The court heard that the constable had visited the 13-year-old’s home three days earlier to investigate a domestic violence case.

He was found guilty of picking her up off the street and raping her in the back seat.

“In order to impose your will on a young girl… you used and abused your position as a Cheshire Police officer, thereby enabling you to satisfy your lust and perversion,” said judge Clement Goldstone.

An 11-year-old pupil who shares a last name with the American president has been punched and bullied at school because of his name.

The boy’s mother, Megan Trump Berto, said that pupils at Talley Middle School in Wilmington, Delaware, were making life difficult for her son, Joshua.

“They curse at him, they call him an idiot, they call him stupid,” Washington Post quoted her as saying.

“The problems started during Trump’s campaign, said Joshua’s stepfather, Bobby Berto.

Noting that his stepson is not related to President Donald Trump, he revealed that he pulled Joshua out of school last year to home-school him because of the issues.

They thought things would be better this year with Joshua’s first year at middle school and took some proactive steps to try to ward off problems.

They met with officials and teachers at the school to tell them about the issue.

But the bullying didn’t stop, the parents said.

“He said he hates himself, and he hates his last name, and he feels sad all the time, and he doesn’t want to live feeling like that anymore, and as a parent that’s scary,” Joshua’s mother said.

Mark Mayer, the principal of the school, said that five students have been disciplined for the issue.

Meanwhile, Joshua is changing his last name, at least in the school’s system, to his stepfather’s, Berto, it was reported.

Former football player, Diego Maradona, 58, has been kicked out of the home, he bought for his new girlfriend, Rocio Oliva, 28, after she ended their relationship.

The Argentina legend and Rocio’s relationship ended after series of blazing rows, reports Sun UK.

Maradona, who is currently managing a team in Mexico is reportedly hurting after the split.

An Argentine journalist Lio Pecoraro broke the news on a local television.

The 58-year-old met Rocio in 2012 after divorcing his first wife Claudia Villafane in 2003 after 17 years of marriage.

Rocio is an ex-professional footballer who played for several clubs in the couple’s native.
